This cute little resturant is amazing!! First night in town and was starving around 5:30 (i know super early) and we walked into this resturant. We were the only ones in the resturant and got a little table by yhe window. We ordered our meal which included the chefs special for my boyfriend and spice tuna roll for me. His started off with a miso soup which was great for a cold night. Next time our waiter checked up on is he brought us this amazing seaweed salad with raw tuna on top. Since I am gluten free I wasnt able to eat but it got 2 thumbs up from my boyfriend. Our meal came and the waiter brought me some soy sauce substitute that was gluten free. The fish was fresh, the flavors were on point and the service was fanominale. I would love to eat here all time. If only I lived a little closer!! read more

Very unprofessional service, was not treated with welcoming service knowing i had a reservation!..First impression is everything and they did not have a good one at all. Now the sushi was just as bad..dry and somewhat tasted and texture was like it has been sitting in the fridge for 5 days. We came here from the Northern Virginia on spring break and we were looking for our favorite food-sushi! The sushi was fresh and was really good. It took a little while to bring the food but it was fresh and tasty and worth the wait. The ambience was decent but bit crowded which means lots of people prefer to eat here and that is great! Calistoga is so wonderful to just walk around in and enjoy the mineral bath and now the freshest sushi to eat! We will come back again! read more

I went here last week and was satisfied with everything except I noticed after eating half the roll, there was small hair on it that looked like a pube. When I told the server about it, he was kind enough to take it off the bill, and joked about how it could've come with his facial hair and I said,"it's ok it happens". There were two of these hairs on the plate and while I was enjoying another roll (hair free), the server was joking with another female server about how I found a couple hairs and it was very rude to be saying "oh well. Another customer with a hair in their food". This tells me it has happened with him multiple times. read more

we came here at around 12:30 and the restaurant only had people sitting at the (small) sushi bar. it took about 30 mins to get two bowls of miso soup, another wait to get a portion of our actual order, and another 5-10 mins for the rest of our order. we ordered two rainbow rolls, a west coast roll, a spicy trio roll, and two sashimi platters. the rolls were so dry. the sushi rice wasn't soft or sticking together. the slices of fish on top of the rainbow rolls looked like they were just placed on top after the roll was cut. the fish wasn't up to par either. all of the food looked unappealing and was lackluster. service was OKAY. nothing really wrong but also nothing exceptional. didn't ask about the meal or have an enthusiastic attitude. definitely not worth a try read more

This place was wonderful. The owners are very talkative & kind. Its a family own business so almost everyone that works here is related. I got the Diablo roll & Chicken katsu bowl, my other half got a Bento Box. The roll was fresh & yummy. My Chicken was good. They are generous with the rice. My boyfriend felt the bento box was well balance. He didn't like the noodle part of it though. We also got green tea ice cream soooooo good. It made our day. read more

We decided to try this place out. Very very expensive and overpriced for what it is. Service was very poor and extremely slow. It was confusing and nobody formally stated they will be serving us. Random wait staff kept appearing at the table. They brought us water and left... we waited and waited. Finally, someone came up and asked us if we would like something to drink. We said no and he ran away. It would have been nice if he asked if we were ready to order. Finally, a girl came to top off our water and I asked if we could order? She said "oh sorry let me get someone" and ran off again. Finally, the guy who asked us about drinks came back and took our order. It was weird that the service was so slow, it seemed like there were more staff than people sitting in the dining area. The staff appeared to be just hanging around at the door. My food came out way before my husbands. I was already done eating by the time he got his. The shrimp tempura was soggy. The sushi was okay, nothing special. My husband got the ramen. The noodles looked like packaged noodles and the chicken in it was soggy boiled chicken. Nobody offered us a desert menu or even looked us in the eyes the entire time. It took forever to get our check. I saw other people waiting forever for service also. I'm not sure why that place has such great reviews? Maybe it's because options are limited in Calistoga. Unprofessional. After my third phone call to order takeout on 4/13, I finally got someone to answer on the other line but then they hung up on me. I immediately called back twice and it just rung until voicemail. If you're busy and can't take any more orders, just pick up the phone and be honest so hungry customers will try elsewhere instead of ignoring customers who are trying to support your business. A group of us got together today to celebrate friendship, both old and new, and our dear Leslie who passed not too long ago. Sushi Mambo was one of her all time favorite places to dine. Her husband took the lead and ordered at least 6 different Rolls, the delicious Tempura, Dumplings and Ramen Soup. Every bite was a piece of heaven! The atmosphere is so calming and laid back. There were 10 of us and we ate, talked, laughed and shared! At the end we ordered the Oreo Cookie Mountain. OMG!!! So wonderful. The staff are kind, friendly and accommodating. Sushi was great, service was really slow. This seems to be the pattern with reviews for this location so I wasn't extremely surprised when it took my friend and I about 15 minutes to have water brought over and our orders taken. However, the food was spectacular so quite frankly the lack of service didn't really bother me. They were always around when I needed a refill on my water and our check was brought out to us quite promptly. It was just the initial waiting. Don't come if you are in a hurry, but if you have the time and patience and want to enjoy excellent sushi with really really fresh fish, come here! read more

A modern, eclectic fusion version of Japanese food. They do a good job of this. However, if one expects more of a tradional Japanese restaurant experience, forget it. The flavors are different, and the style is really different. The pricing is not consistent with the ingredients involved: there is no way that the pork and chicken cutlets should cost so much, the tofu udon is ridiculously priced, etc. Location is location, however. Sushi? As in Japan, one's expectation has to be lowered for sushi the further one goes inland. Still, one could do worse, and the provender is quite good. read more

Sometimes when busy, it can be a little slower, but be patient, it is WELL worth the wait. Yummy stuff. Currently, expect an hour wait before you will receive your order. They do tell you this, so don't wait until you are hungry before ordering. The staff is very friendly, but with such an extended time between ordering, and receiving your food, mistakes can be made. I ordered the chirashi, requesting something other than the salmon, and was asked if octopus was acceptable, and said yes, but when I got back to my room, found that I still got the salmon. Admittedly I usually don't enjoy it, but it was a happy accident that I did this time. So I'll accept it as good fortune, but I would rather have eaten what I ordered. Decided to give it a try after a relaxing day at the spa, heated mineral pool and nothing like sushi to round out a healthy detoxifying day! Very cute restaurant. We waited a bit for a table but not too long. Service was good. Given that it was a rainy night, we both decided to order soups (chicken ramen and beef udon. We also shared a sushi roll. The sushi was very fresh and good. However, both of the soups were below average. My ramen had chunks of uncooked noodles and the broth was very flavorless (especially coming from SF/Bay area where ramen is an art). My friend's udon soup was very flavorful but unfortunately, on the sweet artificial side. I think we just didn't get the right dishes Sushi is probably your best bet here. read more

Us and another couple were standing at the front door for close to 10 minutes with servers and restaurant staff looking at us, ignoring us, and walking past. Worst customer service!!!!! Walked in, no one greeted us or spoke to us. I'm there with my two boys just standing as three people who work there walk by us several times. Asked someone whether they had any seats...there was about four open tables....she said we could sit at the bar. Then the "sushi chef" just blank stares at us then tells us we can't sit there- it's reserved. Seriously?? Get your shit together! I've eaten there before and food is sub par. We only went as my son really wanted ramen and we were so exhausted we didn't want to drive to an actual Japanese restaurant. Everyone there was uninformed and rude....One of the more irritating experiences in Calistoga!! I hope someone is smart enough to start up a sushi spot nearby as it would kill it. Moved here over a year ago and Have been wanting try this place for a long time even though we live close by and finally got a chance to go. the food was amazing everything was so fresh the portions are great the service was excellent the music was perfect definitely recommend to anybody who's into sushi or any type of Japanese food read more

To start off, I'd like to mention that this is the old Kitani Sushi location (although not the same restaurant). That made me chuckle. The food here is actually pretty good. The okonomiyaki I had here was actually pretty good and substantial. Some of the food my friends ordered looked a little strange from a traditional standpoint, but every restaurant is different. I think my main complaint about this place is the amount of time it took and the odd timing of food from the kitchen. Our meal lasted an hour and a half; it took about 20 or 30 minutes from the time of ordering for the first of the food to show up. We didn't order an extreme amount of food. The plates came out in odd intervals from the kitchen. Some friends were eating while others had nothing. One of my friends ordered an appetizer and a meal. His meal arrived after everyone had already finished their food; we assumed that they had forgotten to make the food and were preparing to check the check to make sure it wasn't on there, but it came out just as we were about to ask. I would come back here, but I hope that the restaurant is able to serve the food a little more evenly and in a more timely fashion. read more

Nice outdoor seating. We were here on a warm summer night. Chicken katsu was good (crispy and the sauce was a little different than usual), and I really enjoyed the salad that came with the meal (dressing wasn't too heavy). My husband had the sashimi, which he said was fresh tasting. We usually don't order dessert at a Japanese restaurant, but the donut dessert was pretty unique sounding.. so we wanted to try it. The donuts are fried and covered with sugar. It comes with chocolate sauce, but these donuts are delicious on there own! Definitely should try if visiting! read more

Ate here two nights in a row and really liked it! It was right across the street from one of my favorite places in the world - Indian Springs so it was nice and convenient. I noticed after reading some reviews that certain customers had to wait a bit. My husband came here both nights around 8:45pm and sat right down. Tip: spend the entire day at the indian springs pool. Book an evening spa appointment. Spend more time in the pool. Eat a snack and drink some wine. Then go eat - after the peak. We were so happy! I liked the rolls here. They were different. I had the just for the halibut and dragon balls. Solid. Great, friendly service. We stay at Indian springs every year and def look forward to coming back here for dinner. read more

Unlike many of the other restaurants in the area with the exception of a few, they serve sustainably farmed chicken, (used for teriyaki which I love,.) We ate here on Sunday night and the only reason I am giving them three stars instead of two is because we got comp'd 10% because of their mistakes. First off, do NOT sit outside. We waited 10 minutes to sit down outside because they were too worried about to-go orders they had. After we got seated, it took our server almost 20 minutes to take our drink and dinner order. After an hour of sitting, we hadn't seen our server or our food. The owner then came out and apologized and said our food was being made now (which led us to believe they had forgotten about our food). When we got the food it was delicious, as expected, and we're happy. We only saw our server twice and had to ask another server for multiple things. Great service and some dynamic, creative executions of sushi rolls. Thumbs up on the spicy grilled salmon with cucumber (Ninja), and avocado, cucumber and macadamia nuts (Are you nuts). Excellent choice is you're in the mood for sushi whilst in the Napa Valley region. My only wish for dining at this restaurant is if they offered the nutritious and high B vitamin brown rice option.
