Unfortunately the entire time we ate there was a woman/prep chef behind the sushi bar texting and eating while wearing her gloves, then handling raw fish without changing her gloves first. Both unsanitary and unprofessional. Guessing someone who can't put their phone down while working and handling raw food also brings it to the bathroom and everywhere else. You are obviously rewarded with more food if you order a $20+ roll, which is actually unbelievable because they give you 8 pieces with 10% more rice than a $16 roll. The $24 Nirvana roll we ordered had the most confusing flavor profile I'd ever tried from fish. The initial visual of the food reduces your appetite and the first bite validates this caution. I can't imagine anyone having a good time with the food here. Service: 3/5 The only saving grace of this place is our server was nice--nothing that compels me to give above a 3, however. Arguably, nice is the bare minimum, and nice doesn't make the sushi normal size or tastier. Ambiance: 1/5 This place TRAPS in sound, so not only do you have to yell to be heard by your table, you will walk out the restaurant with a noise level warning on your Apple Watch. The staff is always friendly and engage in conversation, make great menu recommendations and their service is always on point. They make it a point to acknowledge each party and prioritize service quality or service quantity. We've never felt rushed or forgotten about. On a good end, the menu is great. Everything we have tried has been great. Tonight, we were sat almost immediately- despite it being a Friday night. We were helped by Soko, who couldn't have made our dining experience easier. Her demeanor and service was calm and peaceful. Soko has an obvious love and appreciation for Kombu- which is nice to see as it speaks volumes about Kombu's culture.
