I referred to my Reno Yelp collection to see where I wanted to eat at while spending a few days in Reno. I've had this bookmarked since a friend suggested it a few years back. After a shopping run this morning hubby & I were ready to eat some sushi. The restaurant has a very small footprint. The windows are obscured due to the Reno desert heat. Is it opened for business? Yep. We were shown to a table today Monday around 12pm. You can do AYCE or order a la carte. We went with ACYE lunch $25.95. Pros: * good variety of long sushi rolls - not too much rice on each. * good variety of nigiri - my go to's always unagi & hamachi. * excellent hand rolls - we each got the salmon skin. Hubby's had salmon skin and octopus * the mussel appetizer was very fresh according to hubby. * green tea ice cream was refreshing. Cons: * we ordered too many long sushi rolls. Good thing the staff knew to only make one Godzilla and one Elvis even though we ordered two each. Definitely would have been too much. * I thought the California roll just ok. Too much imitation crab and not enough avocado. You're allowed three rounds on a very extensive two sided paper order form - 1) certain lunch appetizers 2) long sushi rolls 3) nigiri 4) hand rolls & 5) desserts. We were only good for one substantial round. By round two we ordered very few items. And no round three at all. Done. We paid cash as they've implemented a 3.5 % credit card fee. The restaurant is located in a strip mall where Costco warehouse is the anchor store.

They have an amazing takeout special and reasonable all you can eat sushi! In addition they have a gluten free menu and are super knowledgeable about additional Modifications. I've attached photos of the current GF menu to make it easier for folks to order online. But if you go in or call in the staff can advise too. If you are ordering takeout and have some items you want to remain with gluten make sure to specify that or they might modify everything for you. That happened once when my gluten-eating husband ordered crystal shrimp - they sent raw shrimp. But for me this is great as I'd much rather a place defer to assuming everything should be gluten free than getting sick!

My experience at sushi pier was just ok. It's a pretty small restaurant and it was busy that night with only two servers so the wait time was a little long in between. My friend and I did the all you can eat option and ordered a couple appetizers, nigiri, and rolls. For appetizers we ordered the tempura stuffed calamari, moondog stars, baked mussels, miso soup, and house salad. Both the tempura stuffed calamari and the moondog stars were rock hard to bite into so I wasn't a fan of it. The baked mussels and house salad was just ok. I did like the miso soup a lot tho. For nigiri, I had the salmon, saba, unagi, and upside down shrimp. None of these really stood out to me so it was just meh. I had also ordered the salmon skin handroll which was good in my opinion. All I can say is that I'm glad I finally tried it. It's been on my list and I can cross it off.

Sushi Pier consistently turns out exceptional dishes, and Kim's Fritters are ones I dream about. Crispy, delicately wrapped rice with crab and avocado on top. They are so tasty. I treated myself to some for Mother's Day. A side of creamy coleslaw and edamame made for a perfect meal. I've always gotten my meals to go, but I noticed how adorable the decorations were for Mother's Day -- balloon bouquets and fresh flowers. I just may have to eat there one of these days

A small shop near DT Reno! The space is limited and the wait time is not too bad! Our waiter, pretty quick with his service and accurate on his order taking! The staff in general is pretty helpful, which I liked! The AYCE price is kind of pricey for Nevada, but so good considering the quality of sushi and options included! We loved the quail egg shooters and the nigiri! We absolutely will come back here again, since it's literally 5 mins away from the our fave resort ( Grand Sierra).

Mussels Donald duck Marilyn Monroe Titan roll Were the things I ordered. The Marilyn is a basic roll that helps cleanse the taste in your mouth between rolls. By itself, it is very bland. I only order when I need the blandness between two powerful rolls. The Titan was good. I prefer the Ava over the Titan. The Ava has more bold flavors. The Donald duck is a common appetizers for sushi places. Donald tasted good. Not too much rice. The mussels were perfectly done. Not overly chewy. I had 14 mussels total. Over all this is a good go to place. Never that crowded. We are always sat very quickly with little to no wait times.

Great experience overall! The original sushi pier is a cozy location (not too big so recommend making a reservation or calling ahead if you have a party of 5 or more). The service is very kind, they do want to accommodate for you and as we came as a group of 7, they were able to still get us seated but we did split into 2 tables. We did AYCE and we love it here! The Nigiris are super worth it, we recommend getting as many Donald's as your heart desires! We also loved the Special Scallop hand roll and the Happy Ending fried banana dessert is perfect to close out AYCE... seriously! PARKING is super easy in the outdoor lot right outside, they have a bathroom in the restaurant, and they offer takeout ordering too. If you do come at a busy time and have to wait, since this location is small, there is not much room to wait inside (would keep in mind if it's raining or cold outside). Overall, we love Sushi Pier whenever we come to Reno! Check it out for a homey, comforting sushi experience!

Went for ayce lunch, which isn't bad for $25 a person. Seated right away and we were able to order through a sheet, with three rounds throughout the meal. The service was good, attentive the whole time, and the food came at a reasonable time. The menu consists of appetizers, nigiri, hand rolls, and long rolls. The rice, which is a prominent part in the sushi experience, was dry and hard. It was definitely noticeable, as it was hard to eat at times. I hope it was just the time I went, and not a consistent thing. They give a lot of rice to fish ratio. The fish I tried (eel, tuna, salmon, squid, octopus) were good, no fishy taste, and very fresh. The rainbow roll however, the fish inside was a little fishy, not very pleasant. I could not finish. The muscles had good flavor. Overall, a good experience and customer service was so nice. The ayce also includes ice cream in the end.

came here for lunch on a monday at 2:30pm! what a cute little restaurant! staff was very friendly, they have a sushi bar in the middle where people were seated and they ordered their ayce orders directly to the chef! the chefs in the middle were co cute and sweet. i really liked the environment of the restaurant. ayce for lunch was $26! i was surprise that they offered all you can eat, im from the bay area so its pretty common but i was surprised they have one in reno. as a reminder, nevada isn't close to any oceans so it is hard to get fish out here. i thought this place was pretty good for the price, the staff was friendly and attentive, and considering that its all the way in reno. my favorite was the salmon nigiri! i can eat prolly 10 orders in one sitting. i thought the tuna was weirdly pink, but it was not fishy at all! i also recommend getting the donald, i really liked it, it was like a deconstructed california roll but with salmon! i definitely recommend coming here if you like to eat a lot of sushi and want to pay a reasonable price for all you can eat. it's good for what you pay for and you leave full!

From top to bottom: salmon, tuna and yellow tail nigiri

If we go as a group, does everybody in the group have to order AYCE? We have kids and certain adults that won't eat sushi.

No you can buy rolls singly for a single price of course and they have Chinese dishes there are lots of items for a la carte

What is the AYCE option for kids at age of 2?

I think the 2 year old is free . They have California rolls that's appropriate for toddlers that age.

Hi, is the AYCE option still available? Thanks!

Yes it is. 20.95 for lunch. And 27.95 for dinner www.sushipier1.com

Are you open on Christmas? What is the current price for adults and kids? How big of a group can you accommodate? Thanks!

Hey sorry for the late response. We are not open on Christmas Day. Here is our website for menu and pricing. www.sushipier1.com.

How much is the lunch special for all you can eat?

The AYCE for lunch is 20.95.

Is this place all you can eat and what are the rules? Is it good for groups ( 7 ppl)

Yes, it is an AYCE sushi place with the exception of deserts. Under the old management, you could ask for as many deserts you could eat, but under the new management, your limited to just one desert.

Does anyone know if this place is still doing buffet? I can't find any new info on its website. Thanks

    All you can eat, yes

    How much for kids ayce?

    $10.95

Do you get free sushi on your birthday?

I don't think so, not at this location at least.

They had a dessert section, including cobbler, bread, pudding, cakes, cookies, pie, large selection of gelato, even cotton candy! They also had a selection of sugar-free desserts. Everything that I ate was amazing. Some of the things, The shrimp were fresh, the Mexican choices were good, I loved the dim sum, and I had both prime rib and some of the sausage. They had both salmon, and trout, and both of those were amazing as well. For dessert, I had a rocky Road gelato, (very creamy with lots of goodies inside...) the cobbler and the bread, pudding. the bread pudding was just the right consistency and delicious, the cobbler was nice and warm. I paid about $41 with the senior discount. If you are a senior or military/veteran, you have it added to your players card, and you qualify for the discount. It is nice that the buffet participates in the GSR locals discount program which makes it priced a little more reasonably for what you get, but it is still hard to get full value. The selection is decent, the carving station gives generous portions if requested, the pizza is good for a buffet, the fries are crispy and have flavor, and the sweets, pies, and gelato are actually better than average. The American booth such as pot roast and mashed potatoes with gravy is a little subpar and taste a little cheap. I think the best food there are the Asian dishes and the fried rice, overall. The negatives are that everything isn't the freshest or the best quality, some things are more or less. The food tastes sometimes stale or of lower quality. A bad example is that when I approached the dinner rolls, there were a couple of small gnat flies on a couple pieces of bread, when I shook the basket to shoo them away about a cloud of 25 gnats flew off and then promptly rested back on the bread... Yes it's about $12 more per person that if you want to AYCE outside the hotel, but the local's 20% discount evens it up. Selection is more limited than most AYCE menu's. Probably the most limited in Reno based on my experience. They don't have things like scallop, unagi, surf clam nigiri. Mussels only available as nigiri sushi not as an appetizer. Etc. Roll menu is decent, you will find something you like if you are into rolls. They are HUGE, so recommend ordering a half long roll when possible. They also have a selection of hand rolls. We got the Salmon Skin Hand Roll which was pretty mediocre as the salmon skin was overcooked, very dry and crunchy like it was a bit burnt. Fish quality it typically on par with the average AYCE place in Reno but overall a half step down from one of the most popular AYCE places just a few blocks North (Tokyo sushi) which is a madhouse during prime hours with long waits so if you can get seated quickly here the convenience of it being in the hotel may be the better choice especially if you want a nicer, special ocassion atmostphere. Service at the bar was not very good this time around. Waited 20 min for them to come get our card to pay. But generally at the bar, because you can order directly from the chef, the server doesn't have to come very often except to get dessert order or drink order. If they had a wider selection on the AYCE sushi menu and some of the texture of the fish (Salmon) was more firm and less mushy, it could be a 5-star experience.

We ordered All the meats . Spicy pork , Bulgogi , Hawaiian steak, Maple seasoned pork, Kobe beef , pot stickers , short ribs , spring rolls . Everything we had was great . Sides were good too. Had Rice and Rice paper too. Service was excellent they were on top of changing our grill when needed . Price is a little higher than a spot I usually go to, $42.95@ person for dinner . But over all I was satisfied with the food and the service. It was also my son's friend first time having ayce Korean bbq and he really enjoyed. I would come back , Family Enjoyed . Enjoy !!!!

Lacked ice and they dont have hot mustard other korea bbq places serve this kind of dish. Thought it would be another go to place for my korean cold noodle place but failed to make it. The dish also has slices of apple vs what is normally sold with shredded meat. Previous reviews still hold that the prices are really high for cheap meats. The ayce setup still gives you a lot on each dish and you risk over ordering and get the dreaded wasted food surcharge. Until they set their prices to a steal I would visit this place cautiously or it will drain your weekly dining budget quickly. Staff still is friendly like always and the place is always good to bring a big group but I wish they would make it "local" friendly on the pocket. If they perhaps gave smaller dishes each time you order beef you could order more variety but it limits you because one plate of beef is good to feed some people a full meal. That then defeats the purpose of ayce. A la carte items is also priced so high you cant get more than one dish for each person to get variety. To sum it up, they've rigged it to have each person spend at least 40 to 50 dollars to have a reasonably enjoyable experience here trying their many good items.

I was told by my friend the special was the way to go, she wasn't wrong. The special had a filet which I asked for medium rare and it came as ordered, the veggie was green beans with a little red bell, I devoured the vegetables first because I always eat the best first. The filet which I never order was very good, I guess since I'm not a frequent orderer of dead cow, the mash was good and so was the shrimp which was accompanied with a very nice sauce. This was a very nice restaurant which I never would have imagined at boomtown. The prices were not too terrible and the food was great but the waiter was terrific.

I came here during the holiday, Mother's Day, which had an influx of guests at the restaurant. The server throughout my dining experience was Tori. She was recently hired as a new server and wasn't too knowledgeable about the menu as of yet. With that being said, I desired to show patience and grace since she was still in the training stage. I proceeded to order the following items for dinner: * Oysters on the Half Shell (6) * Lobster Bisque Bowl * $29 Special - Filet Mignon & Jumbo Shrimp with Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes The entire occurrence presented as quite interesting, to say the least. I first received the oysters. It had arrived with an empty serving vessel, which was supposed to be filled with the mignonette sauce. Tori quickly fixed this mistake. The oysters met expectations in terms of freshness and quality. They were very delicious with the mignonette sauce, cocktail sauce, and lemon juice. Then, I received the Lobster Tomato Bisque. The soup was lacking in flavor and needed help in the seasoning department. I grabbed the peppercorn grinder, which was readily available at the table. Upon twisting the grinder, a lot of peppercorns fell into the soup unfortunately. I kindly requested that Tori replace the soup. A nearby table had the same situation, where an individual had a bunch of pink salt spill over the baked potato dish. Tori was also their server. I noticed that Tori pointed at me and mentioned to the party that I did the same action. When making that observation, I was quite embarrassed. I understood that Tori was trying to make the other table feel better but the finger-pointing provided a slightly unpleasant feeling to me. I finally received the Filet Mignon & Jumbo Shrimp with Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes as the entree. However, it took a total of 1.5 hours to arrive at the table. It was quite long and a little frustrating, especially since I've noticed that a couple of parties that seated after me ordered the same meal deal and their food arrived before mine. The steak and shrimp were delectable. The green beans were bland (used butter, pepper + salt) and the mashed potatoes were decent in flavor. All in all, the evening at Boomtown Steakhouse was underwhelming. From the food taking a while to come out, sitting down at a wobbly table, the soup tasting bland, and the overall hospitality from Tori, the experience left some room to be desired. At the end, I truly appreciated the complimentary chocolate mousse dessert. This offering made up slightly for everything that had transpired. I don't recommend visiting this restaurant on a holiday, including Mother's Day. When I decide to return here, it will be on a regular weekday.

My cousins picked this location because they are members of a group who used this chain of hotels and casinos often. I personally am not attracted to gambling , so I don't frequent this type of hotel. As I said the rooms were nice, but this hotel caters to the gambling crowd. My cousins got their rooms on comp, because they gamble here so often and that is great, but if you are not a heavy gambler and you are not getting a free room I cannot recommend the Atlantis.
