I lucked out that a bunch of us had a rough day and my favorite food was the chosen respite. Eric R. went for a bike ride and I went to the mall to buy him sandals since his broke. His parents were waiting for us and then decided to pick a sushi place without my input. Luckily for me, my MIL's friend recommended Sushi Robata, which was on my bookmark list! This place has a great ambiance, with trendy and traditional interior mixed. The sushi bar had individual TVs so if you wanted to watch a game or show, it would be a great spot. There were quite a few menus to read, including the cooked/robata/skewer menu, the sushi rolls menu, and the sushi specials menu plus dry erase ordering sheets for the skewers and nigiri orders. Our seats were set with ohitashi - wakame and cucumber salad, which was refreshing. I got iced green tea and Eric R. hot green tea, and we were all given hot towels before the meal. My FIL got the chicken teriyaki entree which came with soup and salad plus rice, and everything came out for him before the rest of the food so he was happily fed. My MIL ordered the Alaskan and Fire rolls plus scallop nigiri. Eric R. ordered some assorted sushi: ora king salmon, blue fin otoro from Croatia (on special), yellowtail belly, and scallop. He also got a negihama handroll. I ordered chawanmushi which is always exciting to see on a menu and had yuzu peel on it(!!!), negitoro roll (to share with the table, 6 pieces), the sushi special from the daily specials menu with one piece each of blue fin tuna, kanpachi (amberjack), aki salmon, red snapper, buri yellowtail, and striped mackerel for $21, a salmon skin handroll, and an order of Peruvian uni (from the regular menu). After we sit down, the staff offers us warm hand towels. I love the Japanese soup in the steel crock. It comes with a deep, rich broth, soft egg, jumbo fried shrimp, and thick soba noodles. I never had sushi from Japan before, but I'd imagine their sushi is pretty close. Our favorite roll is the long horn roll, definitely a must try! My mom loves their hamachi collar, my sister loves their futomaki roll, and my brother and I loves their takoyaki. Their appetizer is just as good as their rolls! My only small problem with this place is the cooking time. It takes pretty long for our food to come out every time and sometimes one dish would come out when everyone's done eating. If you're a party of 2, They will seat you on the same side to ensure there's adequate spacing for everybody. Extensive menu with pictures. Special rolls are standard price so around $12-14. I got a regular tuna roll and one of the special rolls (can't remember which) and I spent around $20. The special rolls are pretty Americanized so think lots of crab meat. This place was so delicious!! Admittedly, I'm usually one to stick to my usual type of orders at a sushi place (yellowtail jalapeno, crispy rice tuna, rainbow roll, etc) but I had the absolute pleasure of coming with a couple of Japanese teammates who took charge of ordering! I tried so many new dishes including the squid, fried octopus, sunagimo gizzard, hatsu chicken hearts, and gyu tan beef tongue. All of these were a bit chewier in texture but so flavorful and tasty as everything was seasoned well. They also put the dry spice on the side so you can dip it and control the spiciness which is always a nice touch. The skewers are full of the meats which is nice as I always feel a bit shorted when there are too many veggies mixed in so A+ for portion size. My favorite dishes were the salmon salad and the negima chicken and green onion. The salmon was basically a full order of salmon sashimi with the greens to balance. Fresh and green, what could be any better? The staff was so sweet, respectful, and attentive. You can tell they are doing their best to follow COVID guidelines by spacing tables and wiping things clean. They pour you the soy sauce to limit touching. They are super organized with a little decorative cup to throw away your skewers. I highly recommend the strawberry cake! It is incredibly light and fluffy!!! I think I could eat the rice by itself even; it is perfectly seasoned and goes down so smoothly and easily. The raw fish is even smoother. The succulent meat just melts in my mouth. It's not just a piece of meat that came right out of the freeze with frost on it or super cold to touch. As soon as we walked through the door, she greeted us and got us set up right away. Food wise, everything we had was absolutely fantastic! My daughter must have been missing rice too because she completely wolfed down a bowl before eating anything else. That being said our favorite menu items included: Miso Salmon (Perfectly cooked and the crispy grilled skin was the best part), Sake Black Cod (Almost as good as Nobu), Enoki Bacon (The most delicious crunch whenever you bit into it), and the Sea Scallops with Enoki Mushrooms (So buttery!). The server was really good but when it came time to packing the food because I was rushed to get out- it was 2:15. No bag, the hostess was bothered because I asked for a bag or water to go. This is one of my favorite places to grab some sushi or small robata dishes to share. Their food is consistently delicious every time I come here to eat. The servers are attentive and service is always good here. I've tried many of the items here and I've never ordered anything I wasn't pleased with. A few items that I would recommend: -Wasabi shumai: I order this one every time! Comes in a order of four steamed wasabi shumai dumplings. If you enjoy the taste of wasabi and the burn in your nose, you must order this. Not recommended for people who don't like wasabi. -Grilled skewers: Lots of various skewers to choose from. I liked the enoki mushroom wrapped in bacon and the beef skewers. -Hamachi kama (yellowtail collar): Pretty decent sized collar and the meat was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. -Sake flavored black cod: This is probably my favorite thing to order here but I've noticed their cod has gotten smaller from the past. Still, the flavors are perfect here with the touch of sake flavors. -Beef tongue: Thinly sliced, seasoned and grilled to perfection! -Agedashi tofu: Lightly battered soft tofu with ponzu type sauce. Their agedashi tofu is pretty good here! -Sashimi combo: Their sashimi is always fresh and their combos are good if you want to try a variety of their sashimi. -Gyudon: This one is so good and even kids would enjoy it! Thinly sliced beef on top of rice! Yummy and filling! -Tonkotsu ramen: The ramen here is pretty good but I've had better. It'll do the trick though.
