I came here with a friend. It was my first time for dinner. I've been to the bar a few times and enjoyed a glass of wine and the music. I have been wanting to try this place but didn't have a good excuse, but a friend coming from San Francisco was a good reason. The maitre'd had my reservation and seated us right away although we were a bit early. We got a nice table in the back room next to the wine case, which extends the length of the room. This is a full service restaurant. With Harrah's being closed it is a good option for a steak. A server brought water right away. Next the bread person arrived with a basket of hot bread. The waiter came next to discuss the specials. My friend had brought a couple of bottles of wine. The sommelier came by to open them. He knew what they were and commented on the vintages as well. They were older and he managed the corks with out destroying them. We got a surprise when the waiter brought us an appetizer and told us that we had desert coming too. It was ravoli with a nice pesto sauce. A friend of mine from work who loves this restaurant called in the extras when I told her that we were going here. I had the Rib Eye Steak. It came out cooked as I had requested. It was tender and had the expected fat and marbling. My friend had the Filet which was on special. I didn't try it but it looked good. Our final surprise was the plum desert. It was served nice and hot. They are open on Tuesday. I think that Monday is the only day that they are closed now. Roxy's is in the El Dorado but you can access it through Silver Legacy. I would say if you like French American you will love this restaurant. I am definitely not a food critic but I would say they have the best onion soup I've ever tasted in my life made with veal base. Probably the best variety of bread I've ever had too. The escargot will never disappoint if you like escargot and who doesn't love garlic. I had the large lobster tail and that is splurging but you do not have to spend a fortune to go to this elegant restaurant. Did not have my camera on my phone but trust all the pictures you see are pretty good indication of what you're going to get. The waiters are down the Earth and not stuffy and it has a living room feel. Fresh sushi restaurant in front you can order from. So, the caveat is, the last time I went here, the food was really good. This time, it sucked. How did it suck? Let me count the ways. The lamb chops were fatty and tasted like cafeteria food. They were ok, but uninspiring. My paella was awful - soggy and lacking in flavor. It tasted like the chef was a trainee who had used regular white rice, and not basmati, and they had run out of saffron, and had substituted tomato sauce instead. We always love Roxy's, the food, the service the ambience. We celebrated our 60 anniversary on June 29th and our server was a young lady who was just working her second night. Her name was Decapaina. Not only was she friendly and terrific on serving she actually honored our request to sing us a song we requested: "La Vien Rose," in our opinion the most romantic song ever written. We thought nothing would come of it but maybe 20 minutes later she came back to our table and belted out the song so beautifully and professionally it brought tears to our eyes. Everyone in the restaurant applauded her. Edith Piaf would have been proud! So when you go to Roxy's ask for Decapaina, order your meal and request YOUR love song. I have been coming to Roxy for years; and everytime it is a home run. One of the best filets in the country, the scallops are to die for as well. I love Roxy happy hour and we miss Irene. Today (6/4) we waited 35 minutes before we finally got up and ordered drinks from the bar ourselves. I have never left Roxy early and we had only one martini in the hour and a half we were there, paid my bill and left. The service was absolutely horrific. Ahi carpaccio, also amazing!!! Prime Rib, now I've eaten a ton of prime rib in my life and this one is easily at the top of my all time favorites. Wow where to start.... Our poor waitress was so stressed out. Took forever just to put our order in. Love those Martini's Their Martini bar is one of the best in Reno with over 100 different martinis. We have gone there for years with friends to have a martini and listen to the singer at the piano bar. There restaurant is average. I've been to more steakhouses in the last 4 years living in Reno than my 40+ years of living/dining in NYC but then again it is cowboy country! The seating plan offers something for everyone: Bar with bar seating and high top seating plus piano player, the restaurant is set up like a grotto - when you 1st step into the restaurant there's hallway with 2-tops for more intimate dining, a few steps further in there is more seating in front of the open kitchen, to the left of the kitchen are booths and 4-tops that can be moved to accommodate large groups, to the right of the kitchen are more tables closer to the bar so if you want to hear the piano player but not sit in the bar that's the spot. The good: -Martinis, Martinis, Martinis -- 102 on the menu. Check in on Yelp for possible a 2-for-1 coupon. I'm a fan of Mocha. -Happy Hour at the bar! -Albert is an amazing waiter! -Martini & munchies at the bar! -Food is good....Homemade chips & Old Bay dip for $4 great but I recommend 2 orders as there's not a lot of dip, Colorado Lamb Chops looked amazing I had entree envy, decent burger, good steaks, etc. -BREAD! This was, is and likely will always be my favorite dining experience in Reno. I finally took my parents there to celebrate family milestones and it could not have been a better experience. It takes a village of great hospitality workers to run this place well and that's exactly what they have. Eric, our server, was outstanding as was everyone else we interacted with. The salmon was perfectly cooked and was served over a bed of wasabi mashed potatoes and slaw. The glaze on the salmon was sweet and savory the wasabi masked potatoes had quite a kick to them. If you don't like the heat of wasab I'd recommend to stay away from the wasabi potatoes. My husband had the Beef Wellington, which he said as good but not great.
