Saw a review on IG and decided to give this a shot. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday evening so we weren't sure we would get in. It is a small restaurant with very limited seating. (6 tables) Lucky for us we were greeted with a smile and warm welcome as we walked in. She asked how many and we said six and there happened to be one table left open and it seated 6! As we looked through the menu she asked for our drink orders. Once those arrived she brought us each a bowl of miso soup. It was unexpected and really hit the spot. We ordered some shrimp tempura, four different sushi rolls, chicken katsu and for dessert fried Oreos with ice cream. The items arrived one by one as they were made. First out was the shrimp tempura. 2 pieces for a great starter with the miso. Next out was the crab tempura roll. Delicious. After that the chicken katsu came. Crisply fried and the sauce was great. The Kamikaze roll was next. May have been a favorite at our table. My selection was the Lion King. Delicious! The pieces are stuffed so full and high that you had to take two bites. So good. This roll is baked and the cream cheese left it so creamy I may have been wise to use a fork as the chopsticks made it fall apart. It was delicious no matter how sloppy it may have looked as I ate it. The last roll to arrive was the Mt Fuji. It was really good too. There wasn't a roll that we wouldn't order again. We are known for over ordering when we go out but believe it or not to our shock and amazement we ate every bite and had nothing left to take home. The dessert came out and everyone divided it up. Our waitress even brought us some extra ice cream to share. We didn't stick around any longer than we needed to bc there was a line of people waiting to have a seat and our table was in demand. Was always a frequent genkis goer for the convenience but we plan on coming here more now. Small restaurant so expect a wait. The location was literally next door to our hotel. And when my wife injured her knee, we started to really focus on walkable, convenient locations nearby. To establish an expectations for myself and my family when it comes to sushi, the bar is very high. As someone who has eaten some great sushi prepared by masters, the highest grade of sushi is pretty hard to come by. I can't say that the sushi chef is in the rarified heights of the true masters. To be fair, very few do. A Michelangelo doesn't come along every other week. Neither do master sushi chefs. So, this isn't something that borders on the unforgivable by any stretch. Where Sushi Spot excels is in customer service! We were made immediately welcome. And the entire experience was filled with thoughtfulness that exceeded the minimum standards by a wide stretch. On each occasion we visited, we were warmly welcomed by the sushi chef and server, which in my book is already an awesome start. The restaurant was quite clean and had a cute feel to it; hard to explain, but it was definitely a comfortable meal. Menu has a nice variety of fresh raw fish, appetizers, hot dishes, and sushi rolls. I just love that my wife and I could order all that our hearts desired, and it was so affordable!! We came in on a Wednesday evening and had to wait for a bit for a table to open up, which was fine since we were in no rush. The dining area is a bit small, so probably better to order takeout ahead of time. Service was hospitable, attentive, and checked in on us frequently. Before we even ordered, they started us off with some miso soup. We ordered a four different kinds of rolls and the chirashi bowl. You can't tell from the photo, but there is a bed of rice underneath the lettuce and sashimi pieces in the chirashi bowl. Order came out within 10-15 minutes. All the fish were fresh, and I like how they plated the Red Spider and Dragonfly rolls. Just to address those who take offense to imitation crab meat: Most places do. Aside from spider rolls (which typically use soft shell crab), majority of rolls use imitation crab meat due to cost and availability. It's unrealistic to expect REAL crab meat in all your rolls (which we had in our Red Spider) AND be paying the prices that Sushi Spot charges. The cost of four rolls and a chirashi bowl plus tax and tip ended up being $80, which I thought was perfectly reasonable. Is Sushi Spot the most amazing sushi I've had? No. But for the service, quality, and price, Sushi Spot hits the spot for me, and if I lived in the area, I would gladly make it one of my to-go takeout lunch spots. read more

This place was open on Christmas Eve. I called in a last minute take out order at 7 pm and was pleasantly surprised. It's a small spot but nice and cozy. All the staff greeted me when I arrived and thanked me before I left. The quality and quantity were great. We ordered a few nigiri and some rolls. Went here 3 years ago and didn't think it was good but wanted to give it another chance over the weekend. I always judge sushi first based on the rice. We had 4 rolls. The rice was falling apart and didn't even look like sushi rice. Something that simple tells me everything I need to know about the quality alone. The unagi was slimy and the quality was just not good. Nothing tasted fresh. I'm not sure how this place has good reviews, I'm guess it's because these people have never had GOOD sushi. The service is amazing! There's ample parking right outside and even on the side of the building. The vibes are great! They like to play 2010 music, and mostly Meghan Trainer hahaha. Now the food... my go to's are Red Dragon, Kamikaze Roll, Mt. Fuji roll, and Lion King Roll. As you can see, I love my rolls. They give you miso soup to start and a glass of water. They're actually very fast making the food and you probably won't need to be in there more than 30-45minutes. I love going there as they remember my friends and I, and our order. Friendly service and clean dinning room about 6 tables . I ordered their Chicken Katsu Donburi it was ok different than most Oyako Donburi I had . Very plain and simple only onions and eggs over the Katsu . My sister said their nigiri sushi was fresh and good tasting. The tofu was also good and their sushi rolls. Sushi was great! Their signature dish, with its hot Cheetos, was an unexpected delight. Initially, the food came out quickly, but after the restaurant picked up, the service slowed down significantly. We placed another order of wings, which took an unusually long time to arrive. By the time our food was ready, we had finished everything and decided to take it to the homeless people across the street. When we arrived at the restaurant, the service was fast, but it slowed down after 30 minutes. However, it seemed like there was only one server, and we didn't receive much help after the restaurant got busy. The prices were a bit high, and our tab came out to over $300+. We walked in and were greeted by the staff immediately. The shop is small and we were ushered to a nearby table. Our order was taken quickly and came out quickly as well. What can I say about this place?! I was looking for a sushi spot for dinner with the family different than what we would normal have which is Genki or Doraku. Found this spot on yelp and they had good ratings. I normally check out the photos and how many people rated them and etc. before even wasting my time on trying a new place. Sushi spot truly is our go to spot for sushi here on Oahu. We found this fabulous place when we first moved here a few years ago, and we are now proud regulars. It does appear as a hole in the wall spot with only a few tables inside, but it is worth the wait if there's a line and the quality for the price is unmatched. We have worked our way through so much of the menu, and we have never left disappointed. Our go to's are the dragonfly (actually made to look like a dragonfly!), SOS, dancing shrimp, and best friend rolls. If celebrating a special occasion or bringing visitors, we opt for the deep fried Oreos and ice cream for a sweet treat. We often get take out too, and it is so fast and perfectly organized in a sturdy box for the drive home. The fish is fresh, they have a variety of fun rolls to choose from, and the service is outstanding. They are the sweetest people and work so hard to make each customer's experience great. This is a great place for lunch or dinner. We had the Chirashi and Katsu. It was great and very generous portion. Very close to the airport. The restaurant is small probably fit no more than fifty people. Before we walked into the restaurant, we notice many patrons were doing takeout and as we were looking at the menu on the window several customers told us that the food was great. Our friends ordered the chirashi which they quickly devoured! They noted the freshness of the sashimi. I ordered the red dragon which is a perfect balance of shrimp tempura friedness and fresh spicy ahi. My wife ordered the titanic, our go-to roll, it never fails to be our favorite thing on the menu.
