I definitely get all my cakes from Susiecakes studio city! I really enjoy they strawberry frosting and seasonal items. I also liked the berries and cream cake the best for cake. As far as cupcakes go they are pretty delicious. The only downside I will say is for my last order, I was not a huge fan of how the writing was in my cupcakes... I think there should have been something better or someone who could have done it better. More neat maybe. I thought it wouldn't bother me but in hindsight, looking at my wedding pictures feeling a little bummed that the cake didn't come in the texture as shown in the image when you order. Our cake ended up looking very plain and nothing special, but the cake was good! I would've just gotten the single layer for a quarter of the price. Ordered ahead of time to see if I could choose specific sprinkles for the cake. It was a Toy Story themed party for my boy twins. The person I spoke to said they had just about every primary color and that I could put a note when ordering and they'd be sure to do those colors. However, the last two times I've ordered cakes from there, there have been bad tastes, literally. 2nd to last time, son and I got sick from eating the cake next day; Stomach poisoning (2 years ago). This weekend, I had picked up a last min celebration cake for my Parents. I felt bad walking out of there spending $50+ for their smallest size celebration cake with some happy birthday writing on it. Finally got to try that famous vanilla celebration cake and it's true... It's damn good. I had bites of a slice. And having just come from a late lunch, I thought I would have just one bite to say I tried it. One bite turned into 5 or 6. It has great flavor and not way too sweet. The white cake was moist with colorful sugar pieces resembling confetti scattered on every bite. The light blue colored vanilla frosting was great. The color was amazing. The blue belonged on a classic Chevy Bel Air. It was great... I liked it. Anything blue, I'm certainly a fan of. I also tried and scarfed down later in the evening their 7-layer bar which is all kinds of sweet goodness. It consisted of chocolate chips, shredded coconut and pecans on top of a graham cracker crust. This is a sweet one probably best shared between 2 people because of it's sweetness. It tasted great and all the flavors make for a great bite. Service was very friendly. We were greeted & offered samples as soon as we walked in. The lady that helped us was very nice. The space is small. Napkins, forks and cups of water are available by the door. There's a bench outside to enjoy your goods and see the traffic zoom by on Ventura Blvd. I would certainly go back again and I absolutely recommend SusieCakes. I've never been to the bakery in person, but I ordered for delivery a birthday celebration cake for my boss this past week. I placed the order about a week prior on their website and everything was very straightforward - you selected which cake you wanted, add-ons (sprinkles, lettering, candles, plates, etc.), and what delivery time frame works for you. I was so impressed by how easy everything was. Usually it's such a hassle to order a cake and have the nightmare and anxiety attack of driving with it and praying it doesn't smush or fall over. It came delivered in a box and it looked absolutely beautiful. The sides of the box have flaps so that you can fold it out completely, that way there's no need to lift the cake out and possibly dent the frosting with your fingertips. The cake looked stunning and DAMN was it delicious. I'm not a huge cake person, but I had to talk myself out of a second slice. The layers were perfectly even, the frosting was delicious, and the cake itself had fun confetti - perfect for a birthday celebration! It was amazing. I almost wish I had a second slice... I HIGHLY recommend - excellent quality and outstanding flavor. It will absolutely impress whoever you aim to please or surprise! For a business such as Susie Cakes that has been established as long as they have been, one would think they would be open to thinking ever so slightly and creatively outside of the box. Instead they are completely unaccommodating and wish to nickel and dime their local customers who call with an ever so simple request. As a Mom of a teen, I wanted to celebrate my sons 1/2 birthday this evening. I can bake a cake and cut it in half for a fraction of what one slice of cake from Susie Cakes would be. Instead, I opted to give them a call to ask about purchasing 1/2 of one of their cakes for sale by the slice. They seem to have a huge issue with doing such a thing. The first time I called over the weekend, they'd made mention of never hearing of such a thing. Really, you're a bakery and you haven't heard of celebrating a 1/2 birthday?!?! Ok! Well, what the hell reason do you care why anyone is celebrating anything, if you have an opportunity to serve your community and make a sale on your product I can't seem to understand why you want a regular customer to purchase an entire cake when I only want half of it. Then asking to purchase said cake by the slice but not slice it is also the end of the world for these people. Really? I'm saving you time here by not slicing it and how often do you really get a person in there to purchase 4 slices of the same cake. You're making money here! Yet, being as inconvenient as possible. Then... you had to tell me it would have marks on it due to measuring the 4 slices out and I would then be charged an additional $5 to fix those areas on top of their $3 inscription fee and the fee for each slice. Unbelievable! I'm astounded by the lack of customer service at a place that is in the business of "celebrating". They want to either charge you for a full cake when you want 1/2 of it, or rack up the cost of purchasing a full 6 inch when again, you simply called a business that sells "cake by the slice" yet can't manage to figure out how to sell half of a cake without it being an ordeal and charging you way more for the simplest of requests. I've lost respect for Susie Cakes after such an ordeal and making a good customer feel like crap when all we wanted to do was celebrate in a fun way, on an occasion where most customers aren't giving them a cent because not very many people are going out to buy cake for a half birthday. If you're looking for a tasty product some items here are really quite delightful: banana crème pudding, pbj cupcakes (the others aren't great at all, skip those), red velvet cake and marble cake. I wish their attitudes towards customers were just as sweet as some of their items. read more
