a three tiered cake on a table

Working with Nika at Sugar Studio was a dream! As a same-sex couple, it was important to us that our vendors were queer-affirming. It's also important to us to spend our money with small businesses, and the fact that Sugar Studio is a small, woman-owned business meant we were aligning our spending with our values. For our wedding, we opted for a small cutting cake for ourselves and cupcakes for our guests. Between a couple emails and calls, and the info available on her website, we were able to rapidly put together a tasting menu. Everything she offered us was incredible, and we happily landed on a chocolate cake with espresso buttercream in one tier and Earl Grey buttercream in the other. It tasted heavenly!! Working with Nika was just so easy - her expertise and understanding of what we wanted surprisingly made the desserts our most efficient decision of all! Her energy is so positive, and she's extremely creative and artistic. You might not think about this for a dessert vendor, but hiring a vendor that other vendors want to work with is really important! Nika wasn't only good at helping us craft a vision, but also at creatively adjusting to complement the vision of our planner/designer. The stunning sunset color gradient in our wedding colors that she created on our cake was SO beautiful, and the cupcakes had gorgeous colors in the buttercream frosting as well. All of our guests loved the cupcakes and thought they were beautiful and delicious. Nika also added star-shaped sprinkles that we loved each time we admired the desserts, and fit perfectly with our wedding decor! She worked with our planner and stationery designer to add a printed element on the base of the cake that echoed the design throughout the rest of the room, which was really special. From the ease of the process to the delicious cake on the day (and leftovers after!), we highly recommend working with Sugar Studio for your wedding. Even if you don't know exactly what you want, Nika will help you figure it out, and go above and beyond to make it tasty and gorgeous!

    WOW!

I'm still in awe of my wedding cake! It wasn't just beautiful--it was the most delicious cake I've ever tasted. Nika exceeded our expectations to deliver the cake of our dreams. With my severe allergy, finding a baker willing to ensure my safety was tricky, but Nika's attention to detail and willingness to address all my concerns made all the difference. Our wedding guests are still raving about the rich, sweet vanilla cake with fresh strawberry buttercream and the chocolate marble cake layered with chocolate ganache. It was a hit! Despite a scorching 109-degree heat wave on our wedding day, Nika stayed with the cake to ensure the cake stayed fresh and flawlessly decorated. It was a perfect 5-star experience--detailed, professional, and thoughtful. Nika is truly an artist! For anyone seeking a dream cake, Sugar Studio is the ultimate choice. I can't wait to order more from this bakery! Excuse me- while I grab another piece of cake from my freezer! YUM!

Amazing. Unbelievable. Awesome. Delicious. I don't even want to eat. Those are just some of the things that were used to describe the cake Nika made me. I gave her a picture of what I wanted and she made an exact replica! I was STUNNED and so was everyone else. For the interior, I ordered carrot cake with buttercream frosting. Soooo good. My cake was big enough to feed about 20 people and Nika gave me a reasonable price of $300. I shopped around and while Nika was pricier than some, I trusted her more and obviously it was worth it. Honestly, I will be coming to Nika for all my cake needs and have already recommended her to my friends!

Nika...girl...you hooked my birthday cake up. I had to shed a tear. Honestly, I'm grateful. Nika has worked in some pretty dope spots as a pastry chef, Bottega Louie being one of them, so no rookies over here! After her last gig came to an end, she grabbed life by the balls and said fuck it...started doing her own thing and she should be very proud of herself. I took a chance, and Voila!!!!!! The best damn hatbox cake I've ever seen and TASTED! (Oh...I like hatboxes, btw. So classy and stuff.) Nika...I will support you, whatever you do. I will follow you, wherever you go. Everyone loved that Red Velvet cake of mine. ***Two snaps*** You baddddd, girl! You BAD!

Nika Yazdani was hands-down amazing to work with and provided the most incredible, most beautiful and most delicious cake and more for our wedding day. We were introduced to Nika by our wedding coordinator who had worked with her on a few occasions and knew that we'd vibe with her - and we did! Nika is a seasoned professional, but she's low-key and made us feel at ease from the very start. Before our first tasting, my husband and I got on a call with her to talk about our likes and dislikes, and we shared with her some of our design choices and inspirations. She understood what we were looking for and the flavor profiles that interested us, and she got working. We scheduled a virtual cake tasting - and I drove to her place to pick up three beautiful little cakes to do our tasting that night. When the time came, we got on a Zoom call with Nika on the other end and set out to taste the magnificent cakes she'd created for us. Rich, delicious, decadent - all rolled into one (or three!) cakes. In the end, the one we chose was one of her favorites - I mean, how can you go wrong when Nika tells us that it's the cake she makes for herself every birthday! We chose a vanilla cake with fresh raspberries and Earl Grey cream filling. Simply divine! Here's a fun fact: the day after our tasting, we left town for several days, but came back ... and the cake was still delicious! Nika worked with us on the design of the cake, taking inspiration from our invitations and our color scheme to bring the vision of our wedding cake to life. Beyond the cake, we wanted to include some other desserts, and Nika was more than happy to help. Based on her suggestions (and inspo from her Instagram), we had her make a few other dessert bar items for us: salted caramel Rice Krispie squares, homemade marshmallow s'mores on a stick (with gluten free graham cracker crumbs), miniature lemon tarts and blackberry-vanilla swirl meringues for our GF and DF friends! Cut to the wedding day - Nika is a consummate professional and arrived to set up the cake and the dessert bar display. She worked with our florist to place flowers on the cake, making sure that the stems were all wrapped in food-safe tape before using them (so thoughtful!) and setting the cake in place. With a nod to our invitations, which were hand-torn, Nika designed the cake with "torn" fondant and even hand-painted the edges in gold to match our decor. Truly a visual masterpiece, and we haven't even talked about the flavor. Amazing - over the top - delicious! We got rave reviews on the cake from all our guests, even high praise from a professional baker friend who was also a wedding guest! And the rest of the dessert bar? Completely wiped out. That night, the only dessert we got was the singular/symbolic bite of cake we fed each other ... but Nika had also made a "kitchen cake" in case the one on display wasn't enough for all our guests. Well, that cake was never touched - and it ended up back at our house after the wedding. Problem was, we took off for a 2 week honeymoon ... but when we got back, just as with the tasting cakes, the one in our refrigerator remained as moist and as delicious as it was on the night of the wedding! Nika is a pro - start to finish making our wedding cake and dessert delicious and visually stunning. Thank you, Nika - it couldn't have been any better! (All photos by Mandee Johnson)

Nika did my wedding cake and it was absolutely beautiful. Perfection is an understatement! We saved our top tier to eat on our 1 year anniversary and it was still delicious! She's also done weddings and showers for a few of my friends. A few years ago she did an amazing birthday cake for my brother (he's a huge LA King's fan). It was an awesome hockey rink complete with the Kings logo and Stanley Cup trophy! I've also placed a few orders with her during the holidays - both for gifts and for corporate office parties. All in all, I highly recommend her to anyone looking for deliciously beautiful cakes made with quality ingredients and lots of love.

Nika is AMAZING! I put in a last minute order for my fiancé's birthday and she made it happen on time beautifully. Her responses were quick, she gave me all the information I needed and worked very well with my requests. My theme was to bring nostalgic/throwback vibes back so my fiancé could feel like a kid again, and she did exactly that. Her apartment was clean, her working space was organized and it caught me off surprisingly because it's a home bakery but it felt so official. I was very impressed. For the grand finale, the presentation! My cupcakes came out super gorgeous and exactly how I expected to be. Not only did it look good, but it tasted sooo good. She has lots and lots of yummy flavors to choose from that I personally wanted to try, but I went with vanilla with strawberries baked inside with vanilla & strawberries butter cream. This combo was simple but let me tell you... it was BOMBdotCOM! I could not stop appreciating every single piece. It was a taste from heaven I tell you! Every single crumb and piece was so savory and delightful. Nika is the best, I will continue to put in my special orders with her, or even might get one of those cravings and order from her before I come back to LA JUST BECAUSE they're that mouth watering!

One of Nika's delicious Bake Boxes

Sugar Studio (@sugarstudiola) aka Nika is AWESOME! Not only are her sweet creations delicious, which is obviously crucial, but Nika is also just a wonderful person! She is kind and attentive and never disappoints! I have had the opportunity to taste so many of her delicious treats during the pandemic with her Bake Boxes and I could not recommend Sugar Studio more highly! I cannot wait for larger celebrations so I can order more customized desserts. In the meantime we will continue to order Nika's delicious and beautiful Bake Boxes to get our dessert fixes. You should too!!

Beautiful cake and everything I imagined it would be. Simple, but fit the theme of my party perfectly!

I usually hate any sweet stuff, but I did need a cake for my debut. I found Nika through Yelp and I decided to reach out to her because of pricing and her reviews. I looked at some of the cakes that she had done and I though they were very creative. I reached out to her and she told me I could send her a photo of what I would want my cake to look like. So I sent her a photo and I told her all of the flavors and fillings that I wanted. The cake was the perfect size. I knew that any of the leftover would had to come back to me. But I thought it was super pretty and just what I asked for. It was a 3 tier cake with a bow on top that said "Judielle's 18th" as the tag and I thought it was super cute. I do apologize because the guy who ran my event was very rude to her. But, we couldn't meet her on time, so she told us we could drop off the check and she was quite understanding. The cake was absolutely amazing. There were many people who were getting seconds and they loved it. When I took the cake home and started to pick at it, it was delicious! I hate any sweet stuff, but I thought this was delicious and the cake was everything that I pictured! She's super helpful and very accommodating! Thank you so much!

Custom mad hatter cake for baby shower
    Ellen C.

After having my breath taken away when I saw the hat box cake made for Val C., I knew this was the place that would do my specialty mad hatter themed cake. Nika was prompt and helpful during our numerous emails back and forth. She worked with my budget and my vision. She was able to accommodate me in ways I am so grateful for. Everything was flawless and beautiful. The cake was the talk of the baby shower. The only con was the taste of the cake. The red velvet cake texture was a bit soggy and dry, if that's at all possible. I don't think anyone minded but me. The decor was just that exquisite, that it didn't matter.

I was tasked with procuring custom cupcakes for my best friend's baby shower. After a lot of research, I reached out to Chef Nika at Sugar Studio. I love that she asked very specific questions to make sure that expectations were clear, and that I got the exact product I had in mind. She gave great suggestions during our email conversations as well. I really appreciate that Chef Nika always remained pleasant and calm, especially when I was super stressed out about getting the cupcakes just right and driving them from Sherman Oaks to Irvine without them falling apart. The cupcakes ended up being the star of the party. Aside from being SUPER cute, they were delicious! I noticed several people taking photos of them with their phones, and many guests asked if I had extras they could take home after the party. I am definitely using Sugar Studio again!!! (Below is what I ordered.) 4 Dozen Lemon Cupcakes with: o Lemon Buttercream Frosting o Sugar Pearl "Bubbles" o Edible Fondant Duckies (Hand molded!!!) o Note: One cupcake had blue fondant filling for the baby gender reveal!

Nika exceeded my expectation! Such a beautiful cake and it tasted delicious! I highly recommend Nika for all kinds of baked goods for any occasion.

Going away cake for my son's teacher
    Wendy K.

I went on yelp looking for a cake place in my area. I read the reviews on Nika and I am happy to say that she met all my expectations and more. I contacted NIka about a last minute cake for my son's teacher who is retiring. Not only was she great to work with, but she was able to make my deadline and the cake she made was fantastic! I sent a picture of a cake I had seen online, she did it identical. When I was walking into the school with the cake, everyone kept stopping me to ask where I got it from. It was the most awesomest cake in that not only was it so amazing looking, it tasted so yummy too! I would never use anyone else for my cake needs. I highly recommend her :)

I think I've tried half of the menu here lol. My go to is definitely the New York roll and the mango passion fruit cruffin. I love that they change their New York roll flavours often. What really stood out for me was how well balanced the flavours are in their fillings, especially in the New York roll and the cruffin. They also do really well with their citrus combos like the cruffin, exotic or the mango eclair. I wish there was more custard in their fruit danish and sometimes the croissants aren't as soft, possibly a little overcooked. But the pastry on the cruffin was one of the softest and most delicate I've ever had. The macarons are also great especially the yuzu, passionate, hazelnut and raspberry flavours.

Luckily because it was a Sunday, we found parking right in from r of the store. From the outside and inside it truly has the Parisian patisserie vibe and feeling, which I love! Once we got inside, we were mesmerized by all the beautiful and delicious looking pastries and dessert options. I also love that they have both indoor and outdoor seating options. We decided to sit inside, one because it was way too hot, and secondly there was this aggressive homeless man who threw a chair towards the glass window of the patisserie. That was scary! The girls working there were aware of this, because apparently he's done this a few times, where he's thrown their outdoor furniture around, so they called 911 immediately, so hopefully that won't be an issue for them in the future! Luckily no one was harmed and no glass was broken, and the psychotic man was far gone. My friend and I decided to get two different desserts. I got the pavlova, and which is one of my favorites. I love the creamy and crunch meringue and the combination of the tart berry filling inside. My friend loves peanuts, so she got the dessert that looked like a peanut, which she loved! The two girls working there were really sweet and offered us a free croissant as a compensation for the momentary chaos caused by the aggressive homeless man, which my friend and I truly appreciated. Overall, we had a great experience here, and I'd definitely come back to try some of their other desserts!

Another friend and I debated what the best berry and cream cake was. I said WholeFoods. She said SusieCakes. We taste tested. We both stood our ground on our opinions. Last weekend,I had the strawberry cake at a birthday party and it was very dry and dense. And the baby's "smash cake" never really got any deeper than the frosting layer, which leads me to believe it was also dense. While I was doing my friend the favor of picking up said birthday cakes, I noticed the pineapple coconut was back in season, so I came to SusieCakes the next day to get a slice. Very friendly staff! Customer service can be hit or miss. Yesterday, it was something in between. I normally don't update reviews unless some things change from good to bad and vice versa. After leaving the restaurant, I had a sweet tooth. Decided to stop by this bakery which is located inside Gelson's Market and buy few pastries for the house. Mostly for their mini Eclairs that are filled with delicious, Vanilla custard and coated with chocolate cream. Well, once again they were out! Was greeted by Esther, one of their managers. Somewhat friendly and helpful. Was trying hard to impress. I told her I need 8 pieces of individual pastries. Right away she got the box ready and stocked all my favorite pastries in them. Got 2 slices of Parisian pastries,($9.00), 4 slices of their Vanilla Custard ($15.80), (which is one of my favorites) super light in taste and texture. Last, but not least, got 2 of their regular Eclairs ($9:00). Total came out to be $33.60. Every time I get some lame excuse from their employees such as come back tomorrow, we only have them in the mornings, or the best one, we only have them Friday to Sunday. Well, yesterday was Friday & no mini Eclairs. Time of my arrival was 8:40AM--7/17/26. Esther told me they get them in after 11AM. Not true. I went back just to check and still no mini Eclairs. So Ester, the manager was lying. They also have cakes, cookies, their Alligator tart that has a lot of nuts. Variety of cold and hot drinks: Coffee, Latte, Espresso and more. Plenty of parking spaces. The bakery was very clean and had maybe 2 other employees working there. Expensive, but very yummy. They also sell bread. Freshly baked. Can customize any cake according to your preference and liking. For any occasion.. Go check them out and see which one is your favorite?? Make sure you don't ask for mini Eclairs!!:-)LOL.

The flavor selection was decent. I opted for celebration and vanilla. The vanilla was so moist. The design of the cake turned out nicely. I wanted the cakes to be delivered and they were delivered earlier than expected. What a surprise. Thank you!!

I requested a pastel, whimsical, tea design cake and sent reference photos. What I received was bold, watermelon-like colors that completely clashed with my child's party theme and on top of that, a milestone 5th birthday. I was also only told after ordering and paying that Sunday pickup isn't normally allowed -- forcing me to pick up the cake at 8am the morning of the party. That policy should be disclosed upfront. We had to change plans in order to accomodate this request she unprofessionally sprung onto us. I emailed with photos and respectful feedback and received no response. Not even an acknowledgment. As a business owner, I would have been ashamed of this! The cake tasted fine, but the communication and customer care were terrible. I would not trust this bakery for an important event, ever! Please save yourself the trouble and thank me later ... i would give this review zero stars if I could.

Walked in yesterday mid-evening at 5:30 pm and was greeted by Anna with a pleasant, pretty smile. She was kind, helpful and very nice. This is an Armenian bakery run by a lot of nice, helpful employees. They sell a variety of baked goods and a few savory items. Ponchik, (the closest way to explain this food is a donut). Filled with custard, nutella, and I believe other flavors too. They have Lahmajune, (Armenian pizza), Perashki, (a long dough filled with Spinach, Potato, Mushrooms, Cheese). They also sell other types of pastries, beverages, candy, cake, chocolates, boreks, with different fillings. My favorite is the Cheese borek. Rolls too. With different fillings.. and so much more.. All I needed and was craving for was 4 of their fresh, delicious Ponchiks. They were nice enough to give me an extra one--free of charge. The smell of those Ponchiks transported me back to Armenia. It was fresh and very hot. Came straight from the fryer. Since I was going to have dinner next door, I didn't want to get full on sweets. For 4 Ponchiks I paid ($13.60). Their prices are very affordable according to the sizes of their delicious savory and sweet baked goods. If you pay with card, there is an extra $1.00 fee for processing. I paid cash. Thank you all very much. Parking is shared with other businesses, and no public restroom. Inside and outside seating. They have multiple other locations.,

I arrived and walked into the cute shop and was greeted by a very friendly staff. I asked a few questions and then I orderd the custard ponchik which she said would be ready in 15 min. While I waited I browsed the shop and I got a few other things I wanted to try such as the yogurt soda, more from curiosity than from a craving. I also picked up a box of Nazook. My Ponchik was ready quickly and I was able to use tap and pay and then I went on with my morning. I couldn't help it I started to eat my Ponchik on the drive, it was so fresh and piping hot, so fluffy, and the custard so thick and delicious. I am definitely a fan! I LOVE custard filled things and these Ponchiks are my new obsession!
