We ordered our drinks and food. The food came first, had to ask for the drinks from the person serving the food,finally they came from the person that delivered the food, he had to return my can of tea to get another one, his decision while pouring. About a few minutes later, the waiter shows up with our drinks. I ordered a tea and it was poured into a high ball glass, leaving some of the tea in the can, it should have been poured into a tall ice tea glass, because the fruit was at the bottom. My daughter got two of her drinks. She only drank one. It would have been nice if the waiter was more aware as to what was happening at our table. The food came out all at once, except for one dish, that came after we were almost done eating, we thought they had forgotten this dish. Nobody asked how things were? Came by for drinks and dinner with a friend. Suspiro does have a happy hour at their bar Mon-Thur but as we came on a Friday, we ordered off the regular menu. For drinks I got a G&T which was great and we shared the ceviche mixto, minced beef empanadas, and grilled eggplant. The grilled eggplant was surprisingly my favorite, super soft with a great cream sauce on top. The ceviche was nice and fresh as well but I wished they didn't charge extra for a side of chips. This restaurant is located at the end of Santana Row next to Barry's. When walking into the restaurant, I was wow'ed by how was the restaurant was beautifully decorated. It felt very luxurious and modern and I loved the color scheme and furniture. I went with a group of 12 to celebrate a friend's birthday and we decided to do family style and order a little bit of everything for everyone. I can honestly say I do not remember what we ordered, but everything tasted great and I enjoyed it. I was glad to be able to try multiple items from the menu. I do wish portions were bigger (minus the paella. That was served on a big plate and we had leftovers). The empanadas only came with two pieces. Disappointing Execution Despite a Promising Start We had high hopes for Suspiro. The location is prime, the concept feels thoughtfully designed, and our server kicked things off with a warm, jovial welcome. Drinks came out quickly, which we appreciated. That said, there was no effort to ask if we were first-timers, which would have gone a long way in helping us navigate the menu or understand any unique preparation styles. We decided to go with a few of the more popular dishes: Causa de Cangrejo y Camarón, Ceviche Clásico, Lomo Saltado, and the Paella de Mariscos. The Ceviche Clásico fell flat. The fish wasn't fresh -- it had lost the texture you'd expect from something made to order. The squid was chewy and overdone. The Causa wasn't bad, and we might consider ordering it again, but even there, the components didn't come together well -- the overcooked purple potatoes were especially disappointing. The Lomo Saltado had tender meat but was overwhelmingly salty. Anyone familiar with authentic Peruvian cuisine would immediately sense that this dish -- and the restaurant in general -- isn't rooted in Peruvian or Spanish culinary tradition. As for the Paella de Mariscos, it was a soggy, confused dish -- not quite Spanish, not quite Peruvian, and definitely not a successful fusion of the two. It lacked the depth and structure that either cuisine is known for. One strange detail that stood out: the water served was clearly tap -- with an odd aftertaste that didn't complement the food experience at all. Sure, we could have asked for bottled, but one would expect a kitchen aiming for this tier to at least filter their water. If you've ever been to a family-run Peruvian spot like Limon, or a quality Spanish restaurant like La Catalana, Suspiro will likely leave you disappointed. It has the look and location of a great restaurant, but the food doesn't live up to it. This doesn't feel like a chef-driven establishment -- more like a business venture without deep culinary roots. Unless major improvements are made, I can't see this place lasting long on the Row. There's a lot of potential, but even more room to grow. read more

Tried out this new restaurant located in Santana Row for my birthday this past week. We went on a weekday evening, made reservations, and showed up early and was able to get seated before our reservation time. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is modern, dark, and aesthetically pleasing. They had live music - holiday songs with a Latin twist which was 10/10. Upon being seated we were given a free toasted corn starter which was super tasty and they even had a holiday menu for cocktail. I ordered the Pitahaya ($17) which was colorful and had a decent amount of alcohol to it. The menu had plentiful options ranging from different types of protein and even vegetarian options. We were a bit overwhelmed on what to order and took us a while to decide after going back and forth on yelp to see what we wanted. We ordered the vegetarian paella, which it is noted on the menu that it can take up to 30min to prepare. I also had the Ribeye Y Tacu-Tacu ($45) which had great flavor and cooked to perfection (a good medium-rare). I think the only downsides of our experience were we did select that we were celebrating a birthday when we made an online reservation, but our server did not seem aware even though we had a bunch of birthday gift bags at our table. Secondly, we had to remind our server 2-3 times about a soda refill and she seemed a bit more interested in a larger group behind us as she walked away from our table when one of us was about to order. Besides that I would definitely return and try other menu items and cocktails. My wife is South American we've eaten lots of Peruvian food. This place is on the expensive side. Peruvian food typically is mid price to expensive in general. Even if it was a mid-price restaurant I think the dishes were skimpy on the important ingredients. To start off with the carne empanadas were very good. Drinks were on par. Not having fried plantains or fried yuca on the menu is strange for Peruvian restaurant unless they're just not money makers. Easy to cook and pleases the customer. The standard fish ceviche was overwhelmed with onion and tiny pieces of sweet potato. The fish should have been cut in the bigger chunks and there should have been more of it. Insult to injury is having to pay for the chips. Loma Saltado beef was skimpy as well. And the flavor was more like beef stew. The seafood paella was overcooked with some nice muscles and large shrimp placed on top but not a lot of seafood in total. If you're going to charge the top prices quality should be perfect and the key ingredient should be generous. read more

Honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had. My friend and I ended up with food poisoning after eating here. Seafood wasn't fresh and fries were undercooked (raw potatoes). Suspiro is one of the few restaurants in South Bay that actually serves fideua, which is paella's lesser well-known sister. It's basically a paella, but with short noodles instead of rice and typically is a bit crispier. Personally, I enjoy fideua more than paella, and this place has a good fideua. My party also got a carne paella, and honestly the flavor was lacking in comparison, so I would recommend to stick with their seafood versions if possible. We also got a couple of tapas to share and everything was pretty solid. I liked that they have both peruvian and spanish dishes on their menu, so it was a nice variety to choose from. Only issue I had was that the ribeye we ordered was supposed to be medium, but it came out basically rare. Our waiter was quick on returning the dish back to the kitchen and got it re-cooked. The dish came back and I would say it was a nice tender steak for the price point, BUT it came with beans and I honestly wish it came with mashed potatoes or fries or yucca fries instead. At one point, my friend was trying out the beans and he pulled out a long strand of string, which deterred the rest of us from touching the beans again. It was my friend's birthday and the waiter was nice enough to offer to comp two desserts for our parry of 6 people. The desserts were pretty good, but I probably wouldn't order it if I had to pay for it. We also had a reservation for the speakeasy in the back, so that's where we went after dinner and our waiter was able to get us a seat indoors instead of the speakeasy patio I booked online. The speakeasy was a lot larger than I had anticipated and it was pretty! There was even a dj! Out of all the drinks we tried, I would highly recommend the Rum Barrel Punch for 4-6. It was huge and enjoyable amongst our group. In total, we spent about $650 for 6 of us at both the speakeasy and restaurant, so I would say this is definitely more of a special occasion thing. read more

First visit to Suspiro. The ambiance is open and inviting. We enjoyed the Sangria Roja and Suspiro cocktails. Everything is tapas style so we shared the following: Empanada de Carne, Bikini Trufado, Tortilla de Patatas with Spanish Chorizo, Pulpo Asado con Patatas, and Anticuchos Suspiro (spicy shrimp skewers). Dishes came out quickly so it was a little hard to keep up, making some items on the cooler side by the time we ate them. My favorites were the empanadas and tortilla de patatas. The shrimp was ok, but four small shrimp for $17 seemed a bit high so probably wouldn't order them again. Presentation was pleasing however I wish the empanadas were served in a smaller dish so it didn't look so sparse. Jazz was our server and he was very helpful is selecting dishes, especially the Peruvian items since we were not familiar.
