There was only one person running the restaurant, i believe the name was Clayver, and he was very polite and had our food out fast. The food was amazing, one of the best I've ever had. Portions were enough to fill everyone up with extra left. Would come back often if I lived around the area. Amazing service and food. Highly recommend if you are passing by or looking for good traditional Peruvian food.

I usually go to Emelina's #2, but came to this one since I learned they serve picarones on the weekends. However, when I went they said they didn't have any. Not sure if they sold out or wasn't making it the day I went. Anywho, for two, we ordered the trio Marino #1 and the tacu tacu carne. The trio con Marino #1 comes with arroz con mariscos (seafood rice), ceviche de pescado (fish ceviche), and chicharron de pescado (fried fish). The arroz con mariscos had mussel, shrimp, scallop, and clams which were good. Though want to note, the mussels beard was not taken off. It sort of reminded me of a paella but also a risotto but a little drier. Flavors were on the lighter side. The chicharrón de pescado came with fried fish with yucca and came with tartar sauce. It was alright. Lastly the ceviche de pescado, as always is the highlight of the meal. It was not too tart or acidic. I saw that at every table they also had a fish ceviche. For the tacu taco con bisteck, this is a familiar item we've ordered at Emelina's #2. However, for the one we had here it wasn't as flavorful, but still good. In addition, got a complementary side of corn nuts and a sauce. The sauce was green with a slight kick which went nicely with the meal. Overall, good experience, good food and portion size as well. Definitely recommend trying their mixed combos of appetizers so you get a taste of what you like or not. Also, have to get the fish ceviche here. So good

The shrimp and the octopus was perfectly "cooked" in the juice. I felt the white fish could have soaked a little more. But it was great - I loved it. We also ordered El Borracho which is a slightly different take on the standard Arroz con Mariscos. there was an abundance of seafood along with the tasty rice. Lastly we had the standard Lomo Saltado. The beef was very, very tasty and really tender. Overall, it was a fantastic meal. The interior of the restaurant is kind of a standard strip mall restaurant. So don't expect anything fancy. The parking lot was small and full. But street parking was not a problem. However, service was wonderful. For drinks, we only wanted water - our normal. The glass mugs came cold from the fridge with ice cubes. Nice touch. The food did take a long time to come from the kitchen, so that would be my only gripe.

Tallarin Verde Con Pollo a La Plancha (3.5/5): sauce was good and noodles were a good texture. The chicken was a bit rubbery though and the sauce was a bit much in terms of oil. You Guava be Kidding Me…read more A bakery and juicery that has been serving up delicious Colombian specialties since 1999 in Colombia, before emigrating to the US and opening up shop here in Cambrian Park in 2014. Milohas (mil hojas) means a thousand layers in Spanish, and one taste of Milohas' pastries will make you understand why they picked that moniker. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.

I wanted to get some desert items but they seemed to have very few things to choose from. I would have asked questions but inside the store was strangely loud and the woman who helped me was a low talker so I couldn't understand anything she was saying to me as it was. The empanadas are pretty large, as are the prices. $17 for the two. At this price point I was glad I decided not to buy more. Each comes with a tiny side of aji green sauce. They could have been more generous here. I found the spinach to be very salty and more breading than filling. The chicken one was a letdown. Chicken was lacking any flavor. For both the pastry was dry. Was only able to eat half of each and threw the rest away. Not really the kind of place you dine in for. You order at the counter and there is limited seating inside (in a way that makes you not want to dine in), and a few seats outside. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. This visit and subsequent review makes me feel sad. I want to support these unique, independent eateries but they make it difficult when the quality doesn't meet the high cost. Improvements would be to reevaluate their recipes, make the pastries less dry and dense, and maybe don't be so skimpy on the fillings.

It's like an unobtainable quest but whenever I have the chance to fill that empty void, I do so by randomly sampling. So what makes a good empanada? To me, I look for a buttery and flaky outer shell. This should not be overly oily or dense. The dough ratio should not overpower the filling and the empanada should be able to hold the stuffed contents well. I personally gravitate towards savory fillings which should be moist but not soggy. Best Artisan Empanadas menu offers a long list of drinks ranging from espresso, teas, lattes, frappes, smoothies, and alcoholic drinks. The empanadas come in savory and sweet options. These can be purchases as is or served with sides, turning the item into a full blown meal. There are 4 different salads available for those who want a healthier alternative. As a quick snack and first attempt of trying out BAE, my sister and I made the purchase of: *Mango Tropical Shaker *Chicken & Mushroom Empanada *Traditional Beef Empanada *Argentinian Chimichurry Sauce The empanadas are amazing when it comes to the dough standpoint. Bae has the recipe down to a T and will make even the toughest eater a fan! The chicken and mushroom empanada was exceptionally delicious- creamy, flavorful, and very tasty. I would have easily grabbed another if we didn't already have plans for our next bite. The traditional beef empanada was good but the raisins totally threw me off. The plump, overly sweet raisins weren't a good combo with the salty olives according to my tastebuds. Again, this was still very doable but I made sure to remove each raisin I came across. The mango tropical shaker was okay, just a little too sweet for me. 5/5 stars for BAE's empanadas. I eagerly look forward to trying the panzerotto [pizza], chorizo, and assorted breakfast empanadas. Parking is disastrously busy so come here with patience- it'll be worth all the hassle. I promise!

They have a good variety of Peruvian empanadas and the place smelled really good. My boyfriend and I shared the Beef, Lomo Satado, and the Peach Blueberry! The flavors in both the Beef and Lomo was perfect with the seasoning and what was surprising is the Mango Chutney which made it even more tastier; it had a sweet but tangy profile. The peach and blueberry as a sweet treat was a perfect close out to our lunch.

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein.
