It's a small cozy restaurant with homie cooking. I ordered Kuro , really like the combination of black garlic oil, chashu pork , and chicken broth. It reminds me of Totto ramen in Hell's Kitchen 10+ years back when they were only a few ramen shops in nyc with people who cook with love. We also ordered fried chicken, shishito peppers, and shrimp buns. All are very good. Service also very nice . And the price is very reasonable. They also got some of local beers selection which is awesome! I'd coming back for sure if I'm in the area. read more

I'm happy to have this new ramen joint in the neighborhood. I did take out from here and was very impressed with the decorations of this restaurant as soon as I walk in. Indoor dining capacity is limited in nyc at the time of this writing, but this restaurant had such a cozy vibe going. The owners were extremely nice and welcoming and I can't wait to dine inside once things come back to normal. I ordered the veggie miso ramen and my fiancé ordered a variety of the buns. The ramen was delicious and I especially noticed how yummy the noodle was. It had a nice texture and was chewy (in a good way!). The broth was also very flavorful and delicious (I think they added soy milk in the broth). My fiancé enjoyed the buns, they all looked delicious and of good portions. I highly recommend you checking out this place, especially now that small business owners like the owners of this restaurant need it most. Best ramen I've ever had. The menu was nice and short and super easy to order from . The portions are absolutely perfect and the price point is very reasonable. Everything was super flavorful, hot and fresh . The restaurant is small but clean and feels super relaxing, it's minimal and tranquil. The waitress was nice and was really helpful when it came time to place our order Besides the ramen I also enjoyed a matcha beer , sounds weird but it was so delicious . Definitely a must try ! So so happy I found Susuru! I just moved to the area and I'm so glad this place can fulfill my ramen cravings as we approach cold weather in NYC. I dined in the first time and ordered the Susuru Paitan with a side of black garlic oil, which is equivalent to their Kuro. The Susuru tasted fresh and like home, with no artificial flavors. The black garlic oil does add a little bit of seasoning to the palate so it depends on what you're in the mood for. I'm usually more of a tonkatsu broth girl but their chicken broth here is so good! I loved the shrimp katsu bun as well. The cha siu in the ramen is less fat and looks smokier than I'm used to so I was scared the bun would be the same. However, the cha siu in the bun was so tender! Anyway, I enjoyed Susuru so much that I decided to order it for lunch so my boyfriend could try it. He approved! He ordered the gyokai which was more of a creamy, dashi broth. I have nothing to complain about this place other than that I asked my soup to be hot (temperature-wise) and it still didn't come out as hot as I wanted. I definitely could have been more specific. The soup was definitely the best part of the bowl, but I also really enjoyed the noodles. It was thick, and I enjoy them on the harder side. Unlike lots of noodles in recent ramen, this one had a good taste of flour (in a good way) and had the thickness to give me a really good mouthful. For the soup, I tried the Susuru Paitan for round one and swapped with my partner, and ate the Kuro ramen with kaedama. As my first time trying Paitan Ramen, I didn't know what to expect, but it went beyond my expectations. The soup was fatty, yet almost light and aromatic? The flavours would dance throughout my mouth pleasantly unlike really fatty broths that smother throughout my mouth. The Kuro ramen was dominantly garlic-flavoured, but if you want to enjoy more of the balance of flavours rather than having a dominant ingredient, I highly recommend the Susuru Paitan. Oh, also, I had the chicken karaage and I had no issues or complaints. It was done very well and reminds me of my mom's karaage. The only reason this place doesn't get a 5-star is because I only give 5 stars to the places that absolutely blow my mind. I highly recommend you all get some ramen here if you can! read more

A good place to get ramen in New York. When first walking in, it was small and a bit crowded, but was greeted right away by one of the workers. I would expect certain times of the day to be busier and have a wait, but around 5pm on a Sunday, there was one table available. I had the Kuro ramen and my partner had the Susuru Paitan. I would recommend the Kuro ramen if you are a garlic fan and the Susuru Paitan soup consisted of a good, light, chicken broth base without the garlic flavor the Kuro ramen had. The chicken karaage had a crisp, peppery flavor to it with a sauce that complimented its flavor and it was good with and without the sauce. There was a variety of appertizers and buns to order, as well as a good amount of varying ramen options. I would recommend trying this place out and what it has to offer! read more

I came with my partner to try this cute little ramen place in Astoria after a friends recommendation! I don't think they take reservations. We arrived around 1pm on a Saturday, and it was busy but we managed to get the last available table. Though the space is small, it's clean and pleasant to look at. Word of warning for the winter - if you sit at the two seats to the right of the door, it can get pretty cold since anytime the door is opened you'll be hit by the cold. We tried their chicken karaage, Kuro ramen and veggie miso ramen. For drinks we got white peach chu-hi (fruit sake) and Kyoto matcha IPA. Everything was well portioned and tasty. We loved the karaage, it was so juicy and flavored just right! The white peach sake was also amazing and tasted just like juice. The ramen was great too, though I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again. I added chili oil and corn to my Kuro ramen to give it a bit more pizazz. Favorite chicken paitan in New York. By now I've had a few bowls at Susuru and will confidently say it's both well priced and a quality bowl. The opaque chicken broth is packed with flavor and a smooth consistency. The noodles are thicker, slightly flat noodles that glisten coated with broth. The inside is quite small so there was a bit of a wait, upon first stepping in, you'll see how minimalistic the inside of the restaurant is, there are hooks for coats, tables with booths and a nice clean bathroom. I ended up ordering quite a bit of a spread including Ramen, a chashu bao, sake and Shishito peppers - It was a lot of food but hey I had an eaten all day at this point. Great service for dine in, and their takeout is really thoughtfully packaged (survived a 20 minute walk back to my apartment and was still the perfect temperature) and I hardly felt like I was missing out at all by not being in the restaurant. I'm almost afraid to try the other broths because I love the miso so much... but based off the other reviews I don't think you'll be disappointed no matter which you choose!
