I have gone to the new and very convenient location of Sweetarts on Lindell three times. The space is big and nicely set up. The food is delicious and there is a good selection of vegan and vegetarian options. Naming dishes after authors is a very nice and literary touch. Each time I have gone, the service has not been excellent. The food takes at least 20-30 minutes to arrive. There are no printed menus, and the screen goes too quickly to figure out what we want to order. It would be nice if an explanation or apology is offered when there are hiccups like this. read more

After 7 years and approaching 100 check-ins, it is WAY past time for an update of SweetArt. Over the years, this "small yet mighty" (as the owner oft describes it) establishment has continuously pushed itself and raised the bar that they've set for themselves. Literally no one in the STL is doing what they are doing, and they are the best at what they do, even during a pandemic. Especially during a pandemic. You still get fresh and homemade burger patties and chik'n sandwiches, made in so many ways with an array of different topping options from the Lorde to the buffalo (that buffalo sauce is fawesome!). They've added some delicious french fries to the mix. The kale salad and that dressing (THAT DRESSING!!!) is the only salad I crave. They even sell whole bottles of certain dressings and sauces. Totally worth it! There are weekly specials, all guaranteed to be amazing. I'm currently not on social media but I created a dummy page just so I can personally stalk their ig to see what deliciousness she's gonna taunt us with. (She def still knows it's me. lol!) Like when that undisputed, heavy weight champion of the potato salad game (aka the Creole Potato Salad) will make an appearance. Or to see what the new cupcake flavors of the month will be. I remember years ago when I disliked their vanilla cake. Well chileeeeee, she has flipped that recipe and it's now one of the best vanilla cakes/cupcakes on God's green earth. Blessed be!! And the BEST part?? SweetArt is now ALL VEGAN by default!!!! Like everything!! Vegan biscuits, all the cupcakes and pies. I'd walk barefoot through hot lava for some of their lemon cream pie. I've always loved SweetArt cupcakes. They're honestly my favorite. I'd never ordered actual food before since I'm not vegan and usually just grab a cupcake. I went recently and got the Sweet Burger and it was so good. I ate it way too fast. The sauce was amazing and I'm still thinking about it. I also had the fries and the chicken strips and they were amazing too. The people working there were really nice, and even the other customers had good vibes. I appreciate that SweetArt is honoring the fact that we are still amid a global pandemic and are therefore offering curbside only. When we pulled up, a lovely staff member was outside to greet us and help us efficiently navigate the curbside pickup situation. Honestly, seeing SweetArt on Fresh, Fried, and Crispy was one of the main reasons we visited STL in the first place and I'm SO SO happy we did! It was well worth the almost 4 hours drive and we are already planning our next visit! From the art to the food, it was a great experience and this is all from the outside waiting in the car. The Zora Neale Hurston's spicy chicken sandwich, the cauliflower bites and the sauce that came with them were my favorite things we tried, but I can't imagine that you can go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

This place has some amazing vibes, very cool from the beautiful art work on the walls to the continuous nod to the culture just made me smile. It has a boutique style that makes it quaint and very stylish. Everything is from scratch so be patient but that's a plus for me as I prefer everything fresh. I am not a vegan but wanted to try the food as a healthier option. It was very tasty and filling as my companion and I could have split one sandwich. One miss I feel is there were not any calories posted as I feel if you trying a healthy option the calories would have been helpful. If not on sweets, definitely the sandwiches. As a meat eater, I'm unsure if I can see the benefit of paying $20 for a faux chicken sandwich. That's where maybe the calories would have come in handy to illustrate those benefits. In a non pandemic world, this place gets 5 stars. The food is wonderful even if you're not vegetarian or vegan. However, they are docked a star because a year into Covid measures, it's still an exercise in patience in getting your food. I first ran across this place years ago when a group of restaurants did a cupcake crawl. I think this was right around when Hostess had shut down operations (temporarily, though no one knew it at the time), so one of the first things I tried from here was the Fauxstess cupcake (much better than the original). Eventually, I tried their burger. This was long before impossible burgers were even remotely trendy, and I was amazed by how great they were. I've since ordered a variety of items from there, including a cake (which was amazing), and though everything is delicious, I keep going back to the Maine Event cookie and make it funky burger. In my mind, those are the stars of the menu. If you can't make a decision, get those. When Covid restrictions hit, SweetArt closed for quite awhile until they came up with their curbside option. Order online and then you park nearby with your blinkers on. I tried this several times in the first few months of the option, and it wasn't uncommon for me to not get a text at all or to be waiting an hour after my pickup time to get a text. Eventually, I just started going here less and less, as the wait times were too unpredictable. One caveat to that, I did go once during the week, and the wait times were similar to other restaurants, but a year into a Covid restrictions, it was 30 minutes after the Square estimate before my food was ready on a Saturday. The food was great and the staff apologetic, but keep a lot of buffer time if you plan to order food on a Saturday. It is so good that it is just about worth it, but I look forward to them being able to open their shop so that a quick stop becomes possible again. read more

This is an amazing place!! I went for an early bday lunch. The place was packed the whole time we were there. Not much seating but more people had carry out orders. I had the "Make it Funky" burger with vegan bacon and plant based burger along with a delicious kale salad. We ordered the cauliflower bites which were really huge but full of flavor which is served with sauces. My husband had the Zora Neal Hurston,yep the author-- this was a crispy chicken sandwich with a buffalo and house made ranch sauce. We also ordered one cinnamon roll which was also huge and a chocolate chip cookie which was moist and decadent. Of course we could not eat it all and had plenty to take home. My #ThankYouThursday review is going to Sweet Art! I can't think of a more deserving local spot in St. Louis to recognize. Their menu of lunch/brunch items are always so fresh and creative. Their sweet burger is so delicious and be sure to add onions and avocado-yum! But let me be real, I mainly visit Sweet Art for their desserts. I can't go without picking up at least a few cupcakes and their chocolate chip cookie is the best in the city (IMHO). Oh, and did I mention they have an amazing Cinnamon roll is HUGE, the last time I ordered it, I split it with a work friend-could I have eaten the whole thing? Yes. But I wanted to share my experience with someone else. I am also thankful to have worked with them in the past for providing cupcakes and other sweet treats for an events we have hosted on campus (pre-COVID). They are so easy to work with when ordering and they are more than willing to provide a mix of vegan, gluten free, and traditional food items. I am convinced that this is the best vegan dessert I have ever had! They are only doing pick up from 12-4 now so it took me a while to order from them, but boy I am glad I did! What I ordered: I got the sweet burger, chocolate chip cookie (Main event), and the peanut butter fudge brownie. To be honest, the sweet burger was good, but not the best veggie burger I've ever had. Those desserts tho....the brownie could possibly be my new favorite dessert in stl. It was definitely more of a cakey brownie, but it was still dense and not dry at all. We were referred by our ABNB host. It's a cute shop, I appreciated the decor. I am NOT Vegan but we decided to try because our host said he wasn't vegan either but tried it to impress his vegan ex-girlfriend. So four non-vegans went and split two sandwiches and a pastry. To our surprise this was really good..in fact too good! We tried the Make it Funky and Zora Neale Hurst. Make it Funky is really really good. So good that we went back a 2nd time to have it and we each ordered our own! You would think you are eating a well seasoned burger with all the trimmings...texture is good too. It rivals many meat burgers I have had. The Zora Neale Hurst really shines too although none of us are buffalo chicken fans but we got it because of our host. It really comes off as a buffalo chicken sandwich! Seasoned like one, looks like one... feels like one. I Can't complain about the food here but I can look at it with a suspicious eye LOL because I thought I was not supposed to enjoy vegan. The pastry was just ok. Service was fine. Used to be my favorite place. Was a regular customer since they first opened so I've seen and noticed the change in the food. They stopped serving a lot of the favorites, and started gearing towards a certain clientele. Used to live for the lunches, [ was there at least 3 x a week faitfully] the biscuits, red velvet cupcakes, hummingbirds, bundt cakes, now all salty and they tastes as they substituted lesser quality ingredients. I gave them several chances...but nope it got worse. I have a friend who loved the place just as much as I did, and we ran into each other at the café one afternnon, I sat with him and noticed he didn't eat a majority of his food and fiddled thru what he ate...he then asked if I noticed the change in the food and atmospere, I then knew it was not me. When yi got home and ate my order it was not good. My son loved the brownies...stated the were not as good, ..he finally gave up too. The staff was nice and pleasant. Lost me as a regular customer. This is a fun and great cafe for all vegan lovers. Parking is a bit tight when busy since it's all street parking but we most of the time walk over since it's close to our home. We tried the cinnamon rolls and they were insanely amazing! I couldn't believe they were vegan! I have heard friends rave about the cinnamon rolls at Sweet Art and I finally gave in when craving something sweet this morning and can understand the hype now. The dough, the icing on top, and the perfect cinamon swirl and flavor as well as the size of this roll - so good. I got the roll to go and ate it as is as well as heated up a piece and both ways, delicious. Cute, quaint and inviting spot off 39th that doubles as an art studio. And the staff I interacted with were friendly. They have full menu for savory eats, coffee drinks and obviously the baked goods and it's all plant-based! This bakery vegetarian/vegan restaurant serves delicious plant-based foods. Period. Not "delicious for a vegan dish". Personally, I avoid all vegan venues and would never choose to eat vegetarian, but I stumbled across this gem not knowing it was a vegetarian/vegan cafe and am glad I did! The soy-based Chikn felt and looked like meat and didn't taste like soy either. I briefly contemplated ordering another sandwich before the beautifully moist brownie in the bakery case caught my eye! I saw this restaurant featured on a food show so I was determined to try it. My family and I were in town visiting my sister so we all piled in the car and headed over. We placed an online order and decided to walk around to the neighboring shops while we waited. I'm the only person that's actually plant based but everyone took my word that this place was the real deal. The texture was perfect and it packed a little heat, the soft bread hugged that " chicken" just right without falling apart from the juiciness.
