Lots of precautions for Covid were happening during out visit. Curbside pick-up only. We ordered 2 cupcakes and 1 cookie, we were told 20-25 minutes until our pickup time which seemed pretty crazy for our order but since they were doing pickup only and running items out to people we understood there was only so much street parking and orders ahead of ours. We arrived at 25 minutes and then still had to wait another 10 minutes though which was disappointing. The cupcakes were ok, the chocolate was nice and moist but the carrot cake was dry. We ate the cookie later in the evening and it was good but not really memorable. I've heard about this place a few times and was excited to be in the area to try them. I hope it was the pressure of changes due to the pandemic which caused our poor experience and hope to give them another chance one day. read more

This review update is for their vegan cakes. I haven't been in to eat since the pandemic, but we've ordered a few cakes from them. My younger child is allergic to dairy and egg, so we've gotten vegan cakes from a bunch of different places around town and my favorite by far is SweetArt. The consistency of the cake and icing is almost indistinguishable from a non-vegan cake. The flavors are awesome! The most recent one we got was a red velvet cake with chocolate frosting. I saw this restaurant on the Netflix Show "Fresh Fried & Crispy" and was excited to try it out during my next visit to Saint Louis. However it is with much disappointment that I say neither items I ordered had flavor. The chicken sandwich actually gave me an upset stomach. I had to stop eating it bc I felt the bubble guts coming on. Not only did it lack flavor but all I could taste was the Buffalo sauce, which was to heavy on the sandwich and made the bread soggy. The cauliflower batter tasted like the batter that is used for fried shrimp. The only thing I like was the dipping sauce which was the honey mustard sauce. It had been years since I last visited SweetArt. I was curious as to whether or not the desserts were as good as I remember. Moreover, it was my friend's birthday so celebratory cupcakes were in order! Unfortunately, they can be inaccessible via phone. As an out-of-towner, I wanted to support black-owned restaurants in the area and stumbled upon this gem. The cafè had a fantastic ambiance with inspiring quotes from prominent black writers such as Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde, and Bell Hooks adorning the walls, and even the bathroom had handwritten quotes. The food did not disappoint either! I ordered the Zora Neal Hurston, a vegan chicken sandwich named after one of the black writers. We stopped here for brunch on a Friday, ordered curb side pick up (lunch was supposed to start at 11), we placed our order at like 10:20 and our order was ready at 10:58. We ordered the buffalo caulfilower, mackin cheese, sweet burger, and audre lorde's chikn. The sweet burger was sooo good, I'm pregnant so I'm wary of anything super spicy or sweet but the flavoring of this burger was perfect. The patty was so good, I loved the sauce and the bun, all of it was perfect. The tomato was perfectly juicy too. I ate some of my husband's cauliflower bites and they were so good too (I'm weird and like them plain so with sauce they're probably even better). I eat a more vegetarian diet but when I saw this vegan sensation on Netflix I knew I HAD to try when the opportunity presented itself. It's currently October 2021 and they are still doing curbside pick up. You have to wait for their menu to go live for the day you are wanting to order. I basically ordered everything that was available on the menu for my family and I to try. The spicy vegan chicken sandwich is the one I was waiting for and it was anything and everything I ever expected. The texture was perfect and the flavor was amazing. The original chicken sandwich was just as delicious (especially for the ppl that can't so spicy). I also ordered the vegan mac and cheese - we were not crazy about the flavor. I think it was a little too much turmeric. We tried the kale salad and it was good but nothing that special. Desserts were amazing and delicious. Loved the chocolate chip cookie. Came all the way from California to Sweet Art to have the Zora Neale Hurston Sandwich and the apple hand pies. Tried to call twice to place an order...no one answered. Since no one answered we decided to place our order in person because we had questions and wanted success on the side etc. We wanted that fabulous service we saw on the TV Show. We arrive at 3:25 only to be met with a very unpleasant person telling us the kitchen closed at 3:15. Nowhere on the website does it say that the kitchen closes 45 minutes before the shop closes. My husband and I have been talking about that sandwich and hand pies since we saw Daym Drops show, Fresh Fried and Crispy. We are disappointed, stunned and angry, especially because of the lack of empathy of the female at the counter. She didn't care if I came from Timbuktu and the disdain on her face showed it. The young man who was behind the counter said he was sorry, her face was deadpan and I just walked out Spirit Crushed. When your place of business has become famous Worldwide, at the very least the Website should be accurate, people should answer the phone and in a situation like this the people who work at the establishment should have better Customer Service Skills. read more

This is the conundrum. Great breakfast sandwich but SO disappointed with the matcha latte. I think they may have made a mistake and added rose to them... I don't know, but it doesn't taste like a maple matcha. My husband and I couldn't drink it. It was a take out order so don't want to return. I'll come back for the food and bake goods but not so sure about the drinks. The 3 stars is also because this was a preorder made the night before and still came in and waited 30 mins for drinks alone. By 9:30 am they were out of espresso and had to get a bad matcha latte. We were looking for a vegan wedding cake, which led us to this local bakery. We wanted to support them because they're family-owned and offer good-tasting vegan options. Unfortunately, the final result was a mixed bag. During the planning process, SweetArt gave us a "tasting box" that let us sample several flavors of cake and icing. They were all very good, and we chose an almond cake with almond amaretto buttercream frosting. They also asked us to specify a design for our cake. We were interested in a night sky / outer space / UFO theme, and shared photos of the type of design we were looking for. We talked to a SweetArt employee about the design and the contract. While this employee was kind and pleasant, it seemed they could use more training on customer service. They took the planning phone call in the middle of the loud and crowded bakery until we said we couldn't hear well. Then when we got the contract, it included a $125 design fee that the employee hadn't mentioned on our phone call. When my husband called to ask about this, the employee said something about how cakes include this fee, but didn't take accountability for not making this clear in advance. There was also a $25 fee for a "cake pedestal," which turned out to be a platter (like the kind you see in a bakery case). The options they showed us were pretty basic and one was chipped--seemed like a rip-off to charge customers for that. As for the cake itself, they sent along a sketch that looked pretty good based on our themes we wanted to include. The cake itself wasn't as beautiful as we were hoping. The navy icing was uneven in color and turned our guests' teeth, lips, and tongues blue! To be fair, we could've guessed that would happen...But it didn't occur to us. It would've been nice if someone from SweetArt had mentioned that risk in advance. The cake tasted good and our guests said they enjoyed it. But all of the above took away some of the pleasure from the dessert. The total cost was about $400 for a two-tier cake (feeding 30 people), the cake stand rental, and delivery. The bakery did a fine job communicating about delivery times and getting the cake set up in advance. SweetArt would be a good place to get a fun and fancy birthday cake, but I would not advise other couples to trust them with your wedding cake if you want an awesome product and experience. read more

Loved the interior and vibe of this place. They stayed relatively busy, but the lines moved quick and there were several places to sit indoors and some out as well. There were tons of sweets options that looked amazing, but I didn't try any. Definitely not going to make this mistake next time I visit. SweetArt has the MOST amazing vegan/vegetarian food in the Shaw area (and arguably the St. Louis area). Their "chicken" strips are INCREDIBLE, and have the most amazing, crispy, and flaky breading. Even my husband who is weary of vegan food, couldn't get enough of these chicken strips. Their veggie burgers, cauliflower bites, and sweet potato tots are also favorites! Along with their amazing chicken strips, SweetArt also has the most delicious vegan desserts, and you really can't go wrong with any dessert you order. The cupcakes and brownies are dense and moist, and the icing is so wonderful! One of my favorite cupcakes here is the Strawberry Crumble cupcake. It's so fragrant and sumptuous! Ordered a birthday cake from here for my fiancé for his bday. When I ordered I told them I get off work at 3, which is the same time they close, and they told me I could come in at 3:30. Which was super nice. Luckily I got off earlier so I could pick it up before they closed. I was looking for a vegan cake and they were the only place open at the time so I thought I'd give them a try. I am so glad I did. The cake was amazing and so worth it. I got a 6 inch it will feed 8-12 depending on how thin you slice. It was a pretty tall cake. (They need at least 48 hours in advance for a cake order. ) It was absolutely delicious. I am pretty new to the vegan world and I will say I was pleasantly surprised. The flavor, texture, and presentation was amazing. It was simple, not to sweet, and had great flavor. Glad I tried SweetArt. They have plenty of options and something for everyone. We had gone during the cupcake "happy hour" where it was by two get one free. I attached pictures of everything we had tried- The buttermilk pie- the texture of the pie was perfect- not too soft, not too hard. It was still fresh after us going closing time. My only thing with the buttermilk pie was the crust. It was a little too buttery for me, but didn't take away too much from the overall taste. The Boston creme cupcake- wish there was a little more creme. There was only a small amount and the cupcake itself was a little too dry for me. The Elvis (one with the banana on top)- this one makes you think a little haha. It has a texture of a muffin, with a peanut butter cup in the middle. I have never had something like this, but I really enjoyed it. If you're a peanut butter and banana fan, you will love this! The red velvet- i loved it- the cream cheese was mellow and not too overpowering, which I had encountered time and time again with red velvet items. The tacos were just about as good. A side salad with fresh kale came with the tacos, and the wife also commented on how good it was. The sweets have an intense chocolate flavor to them. The texture of the chocolate is a bit grainy. That's not actually a fault, but adds an interesting texture. Caramel brownies have a heavy load of nuts on top, increasing the flavor component.
