    Custard bun and milk tea.
    Pauline L.

Sweets Bakery on Walker St. is right off of Canal in Chinatown. It is the place that I go to for Chinese Custard Buns. I've loved them since childhood and their custard buns are among the best. In general, Sweets does a good job with Chinese baked goods. The staff is dressed in uniforms. The baked goods are on shelves with a self-service approach to making food choices, but the staff is attentive in this high traffic part of town to guard against shoplifting. The shop has served the area for a long time. I'm taking off a star because the bakery is finally showing its age and in need of some renovation and cleaning. The custard buns and milk tea, however, are still awesome.

Convenient Chinatown bakeshop with reasonably priced baked goods. Been getting goodies here for years! Yesterday, I got a large almond cookie and two pineapple buns for $8.50 and they were delicious! Bring cash.

Got a sweet bean pastry that was just alright. The red bean paste was too dry in texture. Flavor was mildly sweet. I was expecting more from this bakery because there were a lot of people.

I've been coming here for years. They have a white bun filled with red pork here. We always buy a couple to take home. I tried their coffee and cakes here before. They are all good. The service is good, nothing to complain about. The shop is a decent size and has some chairs and tables where you can sit and have a break from walking in Chinatown. I recommend this. I will keep coming back when I am in Chinatown.

Bakery was super jam packed on the day of my visit. Most of the cakes and buns already pre-packed and stacked within the display casing. Got an Almond twist bun and a tuna bun. The Tuna bun had a soft warm bread on the outside, but the Tuna filling was not good (not fresh). The almond twist was just alright- had better ones elsewhere. The small cup of coffee was good and quickly removed the fishy taste from the Tuna bun. Overall, just an okay bakery in a Chinatown that's filled with Bakeries block to block

Cash-only bakery in Chinatown with a HUGE selection of baked goods (including savory steamed baos!) and desserts! It was very affordable, and almost all desserts were less than $5, though some fancier ones and mooncakes were pricier. I was absolutely craving the coconut cream buns. My partner and I came on a Saturday night, maybe 15 minutes before their close so the selection was definitely slimmer but managed to nab one of the last coconut buns. We also tried the sesame red bean flavored cookie/cake. The coconut buns did not disappoint. It was rich and the cream was very buttery and heavy, while the buns were soft and just ever so slightly salty and dusted with coconut. It was perfect. The red bean sesame cake/cookie was okay but not my favorite. It wasn't too sweet and felt a bit dry. Service was good, just pay at the counter when you've grabbed your stuff. There's some limited seating as well. There were a ton of other things to try and we'll definitely be back!

If you're in the mood for baked goods that are not too overly sweet then Chinatown is the place to go. There are a bunch of little bakeries that have a wide range of quality Chinese pastries like green tea cake, egg custard, red bean buns, etc. Sweets Bakery is a quality spot for all of these items and pretty close to the subway. I've been to Sweets bakery for their egg custard and various buns countless number of items and have been satisfied every item. They even have birthday cakes, which I have not tried yet. Like the majority of bakeries in the area there's not a ton of space to sit around. Nor is it a spot known for ambiance but the service is quick and pastries are good and fairly priced.

The Custard Bun, it is sweet and one of my favorite pastries to eat here. It's a bread with some sort of sugar powder at top n custard

CASH ONLY by the way. The price and flavor is good. A few options, not too much of the bread pastry but good enough to choose from. I like that this place is not too popularized where I see friends I know here or people in my industry(occupation). They have seats inside and is never too loud. First photo- coconut cream bun, is sweet with coconut sugar or powder on top with a additional sweetness of cream in the middle. Sweet with bitten and chewing but after swallowne it not too sweet of a after taste. Good balance of suga. Second fav right after the custard bun. About $2 if I recall and no more than 3 Second photo- custard bun is my fav to get here. Simple sweet bread not too sweet with a custard melted masharmellow texture like in the middle. Slight Suga texture on the bread top. About $2 if I recall and no more than 3 I say all the sweets here are not too sweet but some have more suga than others based on what textures you like to eat. 3rd photo-the egg custard tart, is not that sweet at all, if so very slightly with a jello/jelly texture in middle. The other parts are flakey and is messy when bittign, pieces will fall everywhere. The egg filling in middle do feel like Iam bitting into a raw egg but taste good. I don't like raw eggs but this was acceptable. The winter melon cake wasn't sweet at all, if so just alittle bit, close to like just a sweet bread that's plain with nothing added in or on top of it. The winter melon cake has something in the middle and not quite sure what it is, it has almost same texture as outside where when bitten you can't tell your eating the middle filling, it adds a flavor but subtle enough and not sweet. I say it would taste pretty good with milk or some sweet/not so sweet beverage.

I got myself some almond cookies and they are ok for the price I paid. I also got myself a coffee roll. That was delicious. Everything else in the pictures my daughter brought because she said she likes moon cakes and the other pastry she brought. I don't know if you are just supposed to grab what you want but when I went to take a look over at my daughter someone was getting the items for her. It looks like you can just get your own so I don't know what that was about but there's my review. No thumbs up because I'm unsure of the behavior. They were nice to me but, you just don't know what's really on people's minds today even in this diverse city we live in. Happy Yelping guys and be safe out there!

The orange has a base made of chocolate Rice Krispies. All of them have more fruity filling than the mousse. They are very fragile. I recommend eating there if you can. Finding can be a challenge because it's busy and there aren't many seats. I got mine to go just to be taken to the park across the street . The mushroom kind are totally ruined. It has strawberriy jelly and it was a mess. The orange one was almost ruined too. The mango has some diced mangoes. I devoured three of them instantly. Definitely come back to try more.

There was no place to sit down because of how busy it was but the staff kept the line moving quick enough. The place still seemed reasonably stocked with their desserts and treats, despite the late afternoon time that I arrived. I ordered 4 different treats to go and they're packed in small box individually. Unfortunately, they didn't quite stay intact during my trek back to my hotel and were tumbled around in the boxes. Nonetheless, the taste and flavors held up well and even after a few days in the fridge. The yuzu daisy has this vivid pastel yellow-pink base and adorable gelatinous yellow gem atop a white flower. The yuzu gives a subtle infusion of tart that is balanced out by the light delicate skin texture of the rest. Sitting atop a thin round rice crispy. I loved the red mushroom one which is a creamy pink mousse inside the cap. The stalk is a thin porcelain-white chocolate light base also filled with a rich cream. Adjacent are two cute little tree nuts. The orange and mango have such vivid colors and are aesthetically pleasing too. Just like the previous ones, their delicate chocolate exterior houses a rich tarty mousse-y filling. I think the mushroom has a better balance and variety of flavors. Although I don't eat mousse treats often, I look forward to trying some of the other ones in the future, like the blueberry, banana and cloud.

Today I decided to make a special trip to go here to grab a few goodies. I forgot how small the place was and how low the ceilings were. That wasn't an issue though. The place was nice and cakes were stacked neatly. What was surprising to me is that they don't have any cookies laid in the front display. It's all placed in the back almost hidden. I was deeply disappointed with their cookie selection. It was deeply surprising that they don't sell the butter cookies that had jam in the middle and dipped with chocolate on one side with sprinkles. I did ask the clerk and even showed him a pic of what I was looking for and he said they never sold them. They only had the linzer cookies and they didn't look so good. They also did not have the lobster tail. They did have the sfogliatelle which they also called a lobster tail. I thought they were not the same? Some bakeries sell both and they are definitely not the same. I did end up buying one of their sfogliatelle with cream and some rugelachs. The sfogliatelle was good but the rugelachs tasted slightly underbaked. It did taste fresh though unlike many I've had in other bakeries. However, for $28 per pound, I wouldn't get it again. For those not having lobster tail and not having the Italian cookies, I will have to give Veniero's a low rating. I never thought an Italian bakery would not carry staples. Very disappointed. I need to find another Italian bakery now.

I had never heard of the place before, but I was happy to give it a try -- and I'm so glad I did. From the moment you walk in, the experience feels special. The store has two beautiful double doors that create such a grand entrance, and once inside, you immediately feel the energy. The place was bustling with people, and everyone seemed happy and excited -- from the customers to the team behind the counter and the baristas. The cookie case was overflowing with so many amazing choices that it was hard to decide! I ended up getting the Rocky Road cookie, a Double Chocolate Chip cookie, a Two Chip Chocolate Chip cookie, and a blueberry muffin to enjoy for breakfast the next morning. The service was absolutely impeccable, and everyone I interacted with was warm, friendly, and delightful. When I got home, I had half of the Rocky Road cookie with a cup of tea, and it was incredible. The cookie was large and chunky but still perfectly enjoyable -- not heavy or overwhelming. It literally melted in my mouth. The chocolate was rich and smooth, and every bite was just delicious. The next morning, I tried the blueberry muffin, and it was just as impressive. It was light and airy, not overly sweet like many blueberry muffins can be. It truly felt like a breakfast pastry. The blueberries tasted fresh and burst with flavor in every bite. I will definitely be back for more cookies. This was such a wonderful find, and I'm so happy my coworker introduced me to this place!

We walked into a simple and welcoming space where the smell of freshly baked cookies made it clear why it has become such a popular stop. The bakery has a warm, inviting energy, with a steady flow of customers moving through the counter and the open kitchen adding a layer of engagement as we watched the cookies being prepared, making the experience feel more like a classic bakery visit rather than just grabbing a dessert. The main reason to visit is their famous chocolate chip walnut cookie. We ordered one and found it had a crisp exterior with a warm, dense center that gave it the signature Levain texture. The combination of chocolate and walnuts creates a balance between sweetness and richness, although the cookies are definitely on the sweeter and heavier side, and the size makes it feel more like a substantial treat than a light snack. Their other flavors, including dark chocolate and seasonal options, give more variety if you want to try something beyond the original, and we found the dark chocolate version offered a deeper, less sweet profile that appealed to those who prefer a more intense chocolate flavor. The size of the cookies is part of what makes Levain stand out. One cookie is usually enough to share, especially after a meal, but getting one fresh and warm is the best way to experience the texture. The center stays soft and almost underbaked compared to a traditional cookie, which is what makes it different from most bakeries. Service is usually quick and efficient, even when there is a line, and the shop is more designed for takeout since seating is limited, so it works best as a quick stop while exploring the city. The line can move faster than expected because the menu is focused and the process is straightforward, and the staff handle the steady flow with speed and a friendly demeanor. Levain Bakery is worth trying for anyone looking for a classic NYC dessert experience. The cookies are rich, oversized, and memorable, especially if you enjoy soft and chewy cookies. While the sweetness and size may not be for everyone, it remains one of the most iconic cookie stops in the city, offering a dessert that feels indulgent and unmistakably New York.
