Loved everything about this place! Diner vibes with delicious food. The staff was so kind. Don't skip the home fries. So crispy. Also the blueberry pancakes are to die for. You know this place is good when there's regulars coming in by name. Highly recommend stopping here for breakfast!

I had some delicious banana pancakes and my friends got the blueberry pancakes and then the combo meal with French toast and poached eggs. Overall the food was good! Orange juice was a bit too tangy. They didn't let my friend get chicken fingers at 10am(she's not a breakfast person) and there wasn't any time frames listed so that was disappointing. Typical breakfast spot, hit the spot on a long drive home!

got on the road later and hungrier than we'd hoped and Sylvia's was the first place we saw that was even remotely inviting. Sylvia's is typical of space in a multi-use building made to look safe for dining: big windows facing the parking lot and along the interior hallway, kitschy swag and signage and a too-big-and-bright mural of the area. efficient and friendly if not exceptional waitresses, serves breakfast, lunch, and breakfast for lunch so yeah, it's a diner... casual seating out front, chairs and tables in two rooms inside. hot black coffee in abundance; not too thin, not too weak, not too old so not too bad ;-) corned beef hash, taters, and two eggs up came out soon enough, a bit of a wait for the toast though; whites were set with the yolks bright and shiny, homefries were basic and could have used a shake of something seasonal, hash was a bit fine for scratch-made but the potato chunks were a nice touch.

While traveling through the area, we decided to grab some breakfast and then popped into Sylvia's Cafe without knowing what to expect. It was a Saturday, and the place was packed, but the wait was worth it! We put our name on the waiting list, and it was about a 20 min wait. Although the restaurant is located in a shopping strip, once you walk inside, you feel transported. From the beautiful mural in the back of the restaurant to the many Maine-themed posters, it all made us feel so cozy. Service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The extensive menu had a bit of all, from burgers to biscuits and gravy and - of course - all of your breakfast classics. Prices were excellent; most of the breakfast dishes also included coffee. I went with the #1 breakfast special, and it was SO much food: 3 types of meat, eggs, French toast, and potatoes. Pro-tip: upgrade your potatoes for $1.99 to include cheese, peppers, and onions. It was delicious! My partner had the biscuits and gravy and loved it as well. We can't wait to return once we're back in the area!

The place is apparently famous for its pies, and if course, since it is Maine, fir seafood. A lot of the dishes in the menu are market price, which is understandable. The waitress was Megan and she was all smiles and very friendly, and there's a small army of staff working their tuchis off on Sunday, which is when I dropped by. Super generous portions, which seems to be the standard for this region of Maine. I started with the basic Maine dish of seafood chowder. Helen's seafood chowder is a rich, creamy soup that celebrates the fresh flavors of the area. Tender chunks of haddock, clams, shrimp, and scallops are simmered with potatoes, onions, and celery in a white thickish broth seasoned with butter, herbs, and perhaps a touch of black pepper? Every spoonful was hearty, comforting, and filled with the sweet, briny taste of the sea and packed with chunks of seafood. Definitely Maine style comfort food! Once again, I went for the fish and chips and that was a hit! Flaky, fresh Haddock coated in a light, crispy golden batter and fried to perfection. Served alongside hot, hand-cut fries, this classic favorite of mine was (as usual) accompanied by creamy coleslaw, tangy tartar sauce, and a fresh lemon wedge for the perfect finishing touch. Did I mention that the blueberry pie was out of this world? YUM! And they have military and veterans' discount!

I like the Blackened Haddock Tacos and the pretzel sticks. Pro Tip: get BOTH the "beer cheese" and the "beer mustard" and get extra of both. You might have extra, but you can use the extra on sandwiches tomorrow. The extra mustard is also great with cheese and crackers as a snack. The blueberry cobbler is fantastic! The peanut butter pretzel pie did not impress my husband; he said the pretzels themselves tasted cheap, like grocery store pretzels. I have been trying to get them to add a vegetarian pasty to the menu. They have almost nothing vegetarian in there, and a Greggs style cheese and onion pasty would also be extremely traditional and surely wildly popular. PLEASE ADD A VEGETARIAN PASTY!! And/or a fish pasty, which would also be very traditional. Oooh, what about a Stargazy Pasty with leeks and cream? Now, THAT would be traditional and would certainly get some media attention. I will raise my rating to 5 stars as soon as this place adds a good vegetarian or fish Signature Entree (preferably a pasty!!). That is literally the only reason they're not getting 5 stars, that it's way too oriented towards meat eaters. (They do have a grilled cheese toasty and a vegan garden burger, so I would still go there if you are vegetarian or vegan, but keep your expectations low when it comes to selection.)

This place is the BOMB!…read more I've lived in Southern Maine for over 30 years, and while I have heard ALL about Dysarts, I haven't made the trek before now. It took a concert at the Maine Savings Amphitheater to get me to head north, and I am SO glad I did! We got a booth pretty quickly, and even though we were both recommended (several) times to go with the breakfast menu, we ended up ordering one hot open-face turkey sandwich and a pot roast dinner. The turkey sandwich was fantastic, plentiful, and smothered in gravy. I also requested extra cranberry sauce (always), which was perfect. The pot roast dinner started with the most excellent dinner rolls, fresh and warm, then moved to a giant portion of pot roast with gravy, real mashed potatoes, and a side of peas (also perfect). We would have stayed longer and ordered more, but it was time to go, and we were stuffed. Next time.

The staff just doesn't acknowledge you as a customer until they are ready to take your order. I expected better. We were going on a whale watch tour next door and wanted to get some good food to take with us...we would be disappointed. I paid $15 for the smoked salmon bagel and it was horrible. Couldn't even taste the salmon let alone the smoke. It was mostly onions and tasted of onions and cream cheese more than anything. My coffee was $4 and lacked complexity, refills were $1. The blueberry muffin was gluten-free and for all of the stuff we got with blueberries in it while in Maine, these did not taste fresh or local. The English muffin was the worst thing...maybe it was the gluten free bun, maybe it was the toppings...just not great. The one that that was good was the Choco boom. It was like a breakfast chocolate milkshake. All this cost $50 so once you add in a tip which it defaults to 25, 20, and 18 as your options, it's a $60 breakfast that wasn't as good as a hotel breakfast. The inside of the store is super small, I'm assuming most people want to eat outside and look at the bay. But the inside is so small even with the short line (2-3 people in front of us) the layout was very awkward and people were getting mixed up where the line was supposed to go. I'll skip this place next visit to Bar Harbor.
