Best corned beef hash anywhere! I've never had any that was this good....minimal potatoes and lots of corned beef. Biscuits and gravy were mediocre. Breakfast sandwiches on bagel were good. A good breakfast at great prices. This is in a strip mall and the bathrooms were terrible, the smells and everything were terrible, so plan ahead for an alternative to these restrooms! read more

I enjoy stumbling on places like this that are off the beaten path. It's definitely a "mom n pop" place, but I was pleased to find that I could order a gluten free breakfast burrito, something I haven't enjoyed in a long while. We love Sylvia's! We typically come here once a year on our way back from vacation on Mount Desert Island. In these 6 visits over 6 years the quality has been excellent every time and we look forward to it as a hi-light of the trip. We typically sit at the bar and are impressed with the owner who runs the grill with skill, professionalism and floor awareness. This year we stopped by on our 2nd to last day so we could try lunch. They made a special for me with fried chicken on waffles with thin apple slices, cranberry chutney and cheese. It was so creative and so tasty! We saw a lot of good looking dishes coming out of the kitchen including a haddock and chicken sandwiches and burgers. Sad to be leaving Maine tomorrow but happy to eat at Sylvia's twice on this trip. read more

I love little cafes like this when I want a down home breakfast place like this, but , I always seem to find that one flaw in them. The price was good and didn't empty the wallet. I ordered the French toast which is made from homemade bread. I also ordered a side of home fries with that as well. Here's where I would like to see more of that down home feel as the home fries weren't home made and seemed like they were pre packaged and lacked seasoning. My husband and I stopped into Sylvia's at the end of October on our way to Acadia. I ordered a Belgian waffle that came with and a ham,but I asked for biscuits instead of fries. The Belgian waffle was fluffy and not sweet, came with whipped butter and syrup, tasted fantastic. The ham steak was yummy with the right amount of salty ness. The biscuit was split and tasted , a buttery good biscuit. My hand enjoyed his cinnamon apple waffles and side of eggs. A great place to stop in for a filling breakfast. read more

The food is good but the service isn't. The first time I came here it was a pleasant experience and I thought I had found my local place for breakfast. But the second time I went in was so much different. I tried to sit down but was booted from the table for a local and his kids they knew (who came in after me). I then sat next to the kitchen and waited for ten minutes before I asked for a glass of water. A server didn't come back so I left. We came here on our way home from Bar Harbor on the recommendation of the receptionist at our motel. Conveniently located on the way out in a strip mall. Beyond the convenience, the food was a big let down. The stuffed French toast was stuffed with frozen strawberries rather than fresh. Came upon this place by accident, was trying to get a seat at Dennys and they told us a 50 minuye wait. Thats when we over heard an older couple say they were going to Silvias for breakfast, and I sure am glad I followed them. Nothing fancy about the cafe itself, typical strip mall variety, but the food was really good. We were in Ellsworth for a week, but ate breakfast here 4 times. I had the sausage gravy and biscuits twice (best I ever have) All the food was tasty and fresh. Bacon was cooked to order, not cooked hours ahead and left sitting around for hours before use like most Jersey diners. I love that this place has that small town diner feel. When they say this place is "where the locals eat", they mean it. And the way they can tell is whether or not you know to seat yourself. We came here for breakfast and for like $6 we had very filling meals. Charming café! My husband and I ran into Sylvia (previous owner) at the airport on our way to Bar Harbor. She recommended this place (for obvious reasons) and it definitely didn't disappoint. We took a scenic drive to beautiful Ellsworth. I ended up getting the Monte Cristo with turkey and ham, and of course upgraded to REAL maple syrup. So delicious! Would be back in a heartbeat! read more

Great Diner! loved the scramble, we also had the ham and cheese omelet with home made toast, chocolate chip pancakes, whole wheat French toast, and hash browns (which you can add onions and peppers to). We only had 2 people, but the wait was very long. It took 20 minutes to get a table. After we got seated, we waited another 20 minutes to order. After placing the order, it took at 30 minutes for the food to come. The food was mediocre. The waitress had an attitude (probably because it was too busy). There's nothing special about this place. Checkin/getting seated is disorganized. The food took FOREVER to come out (our entire time here was over 90min which seems way too long for diner breakfast. The kitchen kept sending out the wrong items from what we ordered. Our waitress kept complaining about being here on her day off and got into or personal space a lot. On our way back from bar harbor traveling like a herd (13 of us) we decided to stop in for breakfast because it was on route back home. Glad we stopped because the food and the service was exceptionally great. It was kind a busy when we put our name on the list (I had a feeling we had to wait cause of the amt of people in our party). I told the server we had 12 (cause I couldn't do the math so early in the morning). she said 10 mins I was stoked cause I expected it to be longer. After I realize I gave her the wrong head count Katie says "no problem we can have that ready" again to my surprise she was very accommodating and pleasant about it. They put the kids on the stools on the bar and all the adults sat together. It worked out perfect. The food was great too. Solid place to eat breakfast around the area, I would have given this place 4 stars if it weren't for the awful service from the kitchen. Food was excellent, and tasted homemade. The wait staff was incredibly nice and friendly, however the kitchen was extremely backed up and took about an hour to get food on our table. The old couple next to us waiting just as long for only plates of scrambled eggs and bacon. Great place for food, but if you come here, you better carve out some time in your day. read more

Great find !!!! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed and down home Maine. Definitely a place for regulars and visitors alike. We had Belgium waffles with fresh strawberries and thick creamy whipped cream. They make several types of fresh bread so we had the blueberry stuffed French toast. They used the small tart Maine blueberries a and creamy cream cheese between thick slices of their bread. The home fries were so crispy but not over cooked. We ordered a side of hash and was not disappointed - it had a nice crust to it. The coffee was strong and was free. If we had still been hungry we would have checked out their desserts. Definitely the next time we are in town we will come here early in our stay and get desert to go. read more
