I've been here quite a few times and have really enjoyed the Aribic People's latte with its strong cardamon overtones, the Chocolate Jesus and today, the Mucho Calliente, which promises a chili infusion, and cinnamon infused espresso with dark chocolate! But wait..., oh no, I forgot to ask for oat... this is probably (certainly) dairy. Argh! Sorry, I have no Viking blood and can not digest cow milk. I would rather battle the aforementioned Viking before I'd endure the results of ... dairy! We had a group gathering at Tov Coffee on Hawthorne felt like traveling to Egypt without leaving Portland. From the moment we walked in, the owner Joe welcomed everyone like old friends. His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. I'm not going to sugar coat it, our experience here was bad. The only reason I gave this rating two starts is because the interior is awesome! Beautifully decorated with fun seating options and cool artwork. I went with my partner and friend who was visiting out of town. We walk by Tov all the time on Hawthorne and thought it would be a fun quintessential Portland thing to show her. Man were we disappointed. We stood in line for about 20 minutes, which I wouldn't be mad about since it was a Saturday, but it felt like they were badly staffed for it being the weekend. There was one person on register and one on bar. We finally made it up to order and the person was really unfriendly and didn't know answers to the questions we had about the menu. Finally ordered and then stood waiting for another 30 minutes! One of us got our drink and then we watched other people get there drinks who had ordered after us. We had a time constraint and were worried about being late so my partner went up to ask about the other drinks. Apparently one had been sitting by the espresso machine and they hadn't called it out. The other they said they'd make right away. The man making the drinks was rude and dismissive. He finally made the drink, set it down, and someone else came and just took it. We thought about saying something but we were so over it at that point we just left. Total time we were there was an hour. An hour for to go coffee. We left with a very very expensive and mediocre 2 drinks. Save your time and money and go to one of the many other beautiful coffee shops in this city. We stopped by Tōv to grab coffee while visiting Portland. The space had street parking (which can be hard to find in the area), but we were able to secure a spot without great difficulty. The ambiance here is IMPECCABLE. We were greeted by a guy playing saxophone upon entering, and he was so fun to have as a backtrack to our experience. The baristas were helpful in navigating the menu and made our drinks excellently, as they were out of a lot the day we were there. We each got different lattes (one person got chai), and we each loved our drinks! My chocolate Jesus was super rich, but it was to DIE for as a fun little treat! I got a ba'lawa to go - which was a fun little treat for later in my day. Perfectly honey sweet and flaky! Genuinely loved the experience. I've been wanting to try Tōv for a while now and finally got the chance today! I was deciding between the Nectar of the Gods and the Little Mermaid Latte. I got the latter and it was so delicious. We also shared a baklava which was served warm and was the perfect treat to share while we enjoyed our coffee. I was excited to visit Tōv Coffee. Not only they are unique in a sense that they offer Egyptian inspired artisanal coffee, but all the photos I saw showed the coffee shop in a red double decker bus! But then, we never found the bus... Well guess what, they are no longer operating out of a bus, which was a bummer. The current location inside a building was a nice large space, especially for a cafe that only offers drinks and a handful of small snacks. The color was vibrant everywhere we looked, really fun atmosphere. The lighting fixtures were really nice, and each piece of furniture was fascinating. The best looking seating area was at one corner of the cafe. Here, with beautiful decor and furnishings, Tōv Coffee transfer you to a vibrant world, somewhere in the imaginary dessert in a big tent in Egypt. At least that is what I thought of. As for coffee, they were out of several of their popular coffee offerings on this day. We really wanted to try their iconic Egyptian Coffee that comes in a kanaka pot. But that was also unavailable... So, not double decker bus, no kanaka. It felt like they were out of half of their offerings for some reason, so the offering was limited on this day. Eventually, we settled with Rose Mocha, and from their "Limited Tasty Drinks" menu, Date Me. They were quite tasty, rich and satisfying. We had a nice afternoon coffee pick-me-up. read more

In what used to be a Starbucks (oh, the irony) you can get the most deeeelicious specialty fancy fancy coffee, and you really should. The eats are pretty good too. Some of the best coffee I've ever had! Came with a friend on a warm summer Saturday and ordered the nectar of the gods iced. It tasted amazing, the cardamom infused espresso is unlike anything I've had before and it blends perfectly well with the milk and their latte flavors. I don't recall exactly what my friend ordered but it was something that normally does not come with the cardamom espresso, but he wanted to try it and and the baristas were friendly and open to making the change for him. The cafe is decorated beautifully with vibrant colors and stunning artwork on the walls. The look is great and matches the Egyptian style drinks perfectly. Tov... This Egyptian cafe is a must visit. Joseph, the owner, recently moved into this Egyptian themed storefront cafe recently. Previously, his cafe was located a few blocks west in old parked London double decker bus. Either way, this cafe is memorable both in interiors and coffee experience. To get the true experience at Tov, the Egyptian coffee is a must order. It's brewed in on a hot sand bed that gets up to 300 Deg F. In a single serve tin pot, finely coursed Arabica coffee grinds, cardamom and water is added and mixed. It takes a few minutes for the sand to heat up and the tin cup is moved round the hot sand until it boils. It's then placed on a tray and you have to wait a few minutes for the coffee grinds to settle to the bottom. I wanted my coffee black and unsweetened but some add some sugar cubes or honey and some cream. Then poured into a cup and sipped. Very strong tasting coffee with the spice of cardamom similar to that of an espresso. You'll have to watch out when to stop drinking until you start sipping the coffee grinds. This experience came with a choice of dessert and Egyptian sweet candy. I chose a basbousa cake which is a butter type cake soaked in syrup. A bit sweet for me so I only had a bit. The interior is one to appreciate. It's decked out with early 1900's Egyptian antiques, furniture and photos. The owner here was very friendly and hospitable. I'm looking forward to visiting again one day to experience the London Bus cafe experience. A must visit if you're in this part of Portland. read more

Kind humans will explain the drink list before offering you a place to seat in decadent cushions, stools and booths. Tōv started as a double decker bus in a food cart pod just a few blocks down. They now have this lovely brick and mortar on Hawthorne! It is painted purple outside, wonderfully decorated inside, and smells so good when walking by. It is a great place to chat with friends, but not a great place to work (the tables are quite low and outlets are few). When I visited in late October 2024, much of the menu had strike-throughs in sharpie. Our choices were quite limited. I ordered one of their "year round" specials - for $10 (!!!). Their website pricing is outdated as it lists a much more reasonable $6-7 for the specials. It was a delicious drink, and large at a full 16oz. But I'm not sure I could come back regularly at this price point. Perhaps something I'd save for friends visiting from out of town, or if work is paying, or when I win the lottery. read more

Tov Coffee is truly one of the most unique and delicious coffee shops in Portland. They offer Arabic and Egyptian coffee complete with a traditional sand-brewing process. The drinks are decadent and robust, and the owner is incredibly passionate and attentive. I ordered the "Nectar of the Gods". When I tell you this is the best coffee I've ever had... extremely smooth with the perfect amount of punch from the caffeine. The ice cubes are made with crema, a detailed touch. The pastries are delicious. Expect baklava, knefe, and other tasty Middle Eastern treats. Prices are quite high but reflect the quality and care of the establishment. Prepare to pay $9-13 for a beverage and $3-8 for a pastry. This place is great for a special treat, an adventurous coffee lover, or a unique date spot! Parking is a bit difficult during busy times. I LOVE this place! 100% somewhere I will be bringing visiting family and friends too! So incredibly adorable and decorated, with amazing coffee! They warn of long wait times given the complexity of their drinks but I found it just as quick as any other good shop. What a fun and colorful place! Tōv has all the comfort and authenticity of your favorite independent coffee shop, but with extra flair and Egyptian character. The place was full of happy people when we were there, including a table of knitters and a mother in a hijab with her two daughters sitting in the traditional seating area. Stopped in today for the first time. How delightful. My adult kids were frequent at Tov when it was a double decker bus. I can't compare as I never went then, but the brick and mortar space is fantastic. Lots of seating, and a great Egyptian/Arabic theme. It's so much lighter now than when it was all dark wood and green under the previous proprietor. We had the Egyptian People latte and the Nectar of the Gods latte. Both were excellent and I'd have a hard time deciding which I liked better. The cardamom infusion and honey notes could easily become addictive. While their double-decker bus was filled with so many fun memories and adventures, this location was very inviting - with warm lighting, tasteful decor, and a variety of seating arrangements depending on you and if you have a group. Service was kind and helpful. The person gave insightful suggestions, recommending the basboosa to pair with my drink due to the sweeter notes in the coffee. The texture of the basboosa was excellent, slightly tender and crumbly, yet moist and dense. Coming in to the space, we were greeted by a long line of people which indicated popularity. Portland found Tōv. No surprise. Anything different here is usually exploited until it is destroyed from within. No difference here. A few minutes of quiet observation unveiled more campers than actual paying customers. That, doubled with the solo paying customers taking up space at multi-patron designated tables and even people lingering with outside drinks while the one friend slowly nursed their for here cup of drip coffee. A bit more sitting room attention by staff & a one drink minimum per seated customer would remedy this, but it IS Portland, Oregon 2024 and the average xennials are more irreverent to pay if they aren't made to. The bathroom facilities were clean but unusable due to the toilet being clogged and left to it's own untimely demise. The 20 minute wait for my drink was enduring, as they did have a longer line than I have seen at a Starbucks at lunchtime in Hillsboro. The cardamom-infused espresso - something that I was excited to try out as it presented something unique and different to the day to day that is the Portland coffee shop experience, was not present and bummed me out for sure. Perhaps they forgot? It was literally written on the cup alongside my name, but who's to say what happened. Visited Tōv Coffee Shop today for the very first time and had a great experience! It was my first time trying an Egyptian coffee shop so I was super intrigued to see how it would compare to my typical lattes. I ordered the Arabic People Latte and was surprised that the wait was not too long despite there only being one staff member. The shop itself is like nothing I've visited before, the vibrant colors all over the shop make it super welcoming and bright! I love the use of textiles and Egyptian artwork. There is only one traditional table in the shop so Tōv is more so a place to relax and socialize with friends (very much needed). First off I would like to say that it was my fault for leaving my belongings in the first place but the way my belongings were handled was extremely frustrating. I left my 5 rings on the table after spending 5 hours at this coffee shop yesterday & went in today hoping they would have them behind the counter if they didn't get stolen. I went in today to find that they were handed over but had been immediately placed on the leave a trinket take a trinket tray for anyone to grab by the register. I was unable to comprehend why any store wouldn't save something that is clearly somebody's property for any amount of time.
