Awful, condescending, rude, and lazy are all words that come to mind when I think about this company. Every single interaction with them was awful, the work they did was shoddy, they took forever to do simple things, and the results were pathetic. And their attitude problems, wow, I had heard plumbers were hit or miss but these guys are just terrible. Avoid at all costs. Upon moving to a new residence, I was unhappy to find that there was a tub in a bathroom without any water going into it. Kind of weird right? Also, turns out that you can't rent/sell a house like that without disclosing that the tub is nonfunctional. So the person previously in the house had to fix it. Thus began my unendingly frustrating experience with the incompetent jerks at TA Slack Plumbing. It started off with poor communication on their part. We would call, they wouldn't answer. We would ask for a schedule, they couldn't provide one. But finally they said they would show up. What time? Don't know! They refused to say. Well, I found out that not even giving a broad window was their strategy for (I guess) punishing us for having the gall to want a functioning bathroom. Because they would religiously show up at 7:45 am, unannounced, and expect to be let in to begin loud work. They also didn't bring booties for their filthy shoes, although luckily we were able to give them some. Which they courteously left scattered in front of the residence (thanks for the litter). After an initial inspection, weeks passed, and then they cut a huge section of drywall out. More weeks pass. Another person comes and cuts a hole in the tile. And then rather than do even a cursory attempt at matching the existing bathroom hardware, these morons install a completely different colored, completely different shaped faucet. It looks so idiotically stupid. But that's what idiotically stupid people do I guess. With their unannounced early morning wake ups, lack of communication, slow and lazy work ethic, and terrible results, I would strongly advise anyone who sees a TA Slack pickup truck to run away. Was referred to T.A. Slack and Kirk Miller about a year ago. He did some work for my brother who was very happy with his work and cost. After completing a number of upgrades on a 75 year old house I finally got around to assessing the slow drainage issues under my house, some of which were redo's of previous plumbers work. The worst being a replacement by All Stars plumbing of a portion of the main galvanized pipe drain line with ABS pipe. The big problem they didn't support the pipe and over time it bowed creating major backup problems in the whole system. Several plumbers identified the problem but wouldn't deal with it and the other problems it created. Kirk and his crew took did not hesitate to take on the project and identified several other long term issues that were created over time by othe plumbers whose only real interest was upselling projects without any detail just $$$$ pulled out of their a...s. It took T.A. Slack the better part of 3 days to rebuild the drainage system under the house including removing galvanized pipe that had been cut and left under the house. The major objective of writing this review is if you are looking for a team of Plumbers are true tradesmen and will do it right the first time and not do mimimal fixes. They will NOT try to upsell you on major $$$$ projects. As far as I know they only work on time and materials. They do have a lot of business so patience may be required to schedule them unless its an emergency, but if you have had unacceptable experiences with these new age group plumbers it would be worth the wait in results and your money. read more

Kirk has done a few jobs for us and I highly recommend him. Most recently, he fixed 5 drippy faucets (yeah, 5... don't judge!). He did a great job, and was in and out in about an hour. The first job he did for us was far more complicated. Somehow he figured out how to replace our kitchen sink basin without destroying our countertops. He barely had any room to maneuver, but he came up with a creative solution and got the job done. Kirk kept us posted every step of the way and we are now enjoying our huge single basin kitchen sink. He also installed a hot water faucet and filters and, months later when it stopped working due to a manufacturing defect, Kirk came by and fixed it at no charge. We recently upgraded the 3 1/2 baths in our 34 year old Cupertino house. The counter-top supplier recommended TA Slack plumbing. (We also investigated several other plumbers, but chose Kirk Miller and TA Slack Plumbing). His 6 faucet install was complicated by our request to reuse 2 faucet assemblies (so Kirk had to carefully remove and rebuild them), install new shut-off valves (12), and renew the hardware in three tubs. Turned out to be a big job, with a several problems and two days. Kirk kept us up to date on the problems and progress, and always kept his work orderly and the workplace clean. He was forced to be quite creative several times. Overall, he did a great job for a reasonably cost. I would absolutely recommend Kirk & TA Slack Plumbing for any similar job. read more

I found Kirk Miller of T.A. Slack Plumbing to be exceptionally creative and persistent in solving my plumbing problems. Very professional, a skilled plumbing engineer. The house is over 70 years old and needs repiping, a major project. Kirk donned his crawl suit and crawled under the house to check it out. He took photographs and mapped out the water and drain system to give me a free estimate. He made several suggestions and provided alternative approaches to improve the system design and manage the cost of the repiping. His estimates were competitive with other bids I received, and he was the only one who crawled under the house to see the job. While he was at it, he tightened a dripping joint he noticed, no charge. We had a blockage in the hot water line to the kitchen that two other plumbers gave up on fixing except for repiping. This was an immediate problem we wanted fixed before we did the whole repipe. Kirk suggested he try to back flush the line as quick fix. The other plumbers never thought of that. He disconnected the line under the sink and at the water heater, connected a garden hose under the sink to a hose bib outside and another hose to the end of the pipe at the water heater for drainage. He then turned on the water, forcing flow in the reverse direction. Sure enough, after a few splutters, the offending lime particles came gushing out the drain hose onto the lawn. Fixed the immediate problem in an hour and a half. You can probably guess that Kirk will be the one to do the repiping! By the way, I found Kirk through Yelp. read more

I found T.A. Slack Plumbing, a Sunnyvale-based plumber, when they were recommended by my neighbor who works in construction and uses them to install plumbing in commercial remodeling projects. The owner of Slack Plumbing, Kirk Miller, replaced a leaking water heater in my garage just before Christmas in December 2010. He and his employee did the work within a day of the problem being discovered. His bid for the project was $1200 less than Rescue Rooter and the installation was inspected and permitted by the City of Sunnyvale. Shortly after that a crack was discovered in the main sewer drain line going into the house. (The house was built in 1954.) Again, this was an urgent situation. Kirk replaced all the drain pipes underneath my house in late January with new ABS piping, averting an expensive clean-up disaster if the drain line had burst. This work was also inspected and permitted. Kirk always comes back within a short time to check how his work is holding up, and when he came by to inspect the repiping job, he discovered a back-up in the City's sewer line that could have caused a valve in the new drain line to fail. The City snaked the line to the street and that resolved the problem. Kirk also installed a new toilet and lavatory fixtures when the repiping job was done. I have been extremely happy with his work. Kirk is honest, responsive, affordable, articulate (he will draw you a picture to explain what needs to be done), and provides excellent professional service. read more

He is meticulous and extremely detailed, knowledgable about the overall construction industry and very honest in terms of what your problems are and how best to resolve them. He knows exactly how much parts cost and tells you up front. I never realized how important it is to have a great plumber until two of my bathroom leaked and the subfloor and everything below was dry-rotted ! The plumbing below was a nightmare of a job--all tangled up and basically a mess. Kirk fixed all of this, did the new plumbing for my entire bathroom,explained everything to me and took the mystique out of his business. He did want me to understand.He also had a thorough knowledge of framing, sheetrocking and drywall work, and a host of other areas relating to building construction.
