The food was just ok. I ordered the chicken salad that came with an English muffin. I thought it would be more like a sandwich but it was just half the muffin. It was more like a salad. I've been here a couple of times and have been able to give it a few chances. Unfortunately, each time I'm disappointed. The fried food options are usually under seasoned. The burgers my dining partners ordered were so over cooked they were hard and black and inedible. The balcony area has a wonderful view of LoDa and the service is always prompt and friendly. Unfortunately with all the other options in the area, this won't be one of the eateries I recommend to friends or family. Poor service from overworked staff. I've had one decent meal here, which is why I'm rating 2 instead of 1. Greeter looked very put out to show us a table. The waiter was unattentive, and not the least bit interested in us or our order. I can pretty much guarantee you a 20% tip if you bring us our food, and give me a refill on my tea. Neither I nor my wife are demanding diners, and we both respect the difficulty of serving the public. Even so, the service was abysmal. We should have seen the writing on the wall, and just left, but unfortunately, we stuck it out, and in return, my wife was given the wrong meal. The waiter placed the plates and stormed off before we could stop him. He never made eye contact with us, just put the plates on the table and was gone. While my order was correct (Eggs Benedict), it was prepared incorrectly. It was very oversalted, the eggs were overdone, and they flubbed the hollandaise, which was barely edible and lacked any lemon. I will not be making a return trip. read more

As part of a group of 11, I visited on a busy Friday night. We were seated upstairs and promptly asked our drink orders. Once our drinks were served and we'd had time to look over the menu we ordered appetizers- fried mushrooms and chicken wings. Both were tasty, but the wings were especially good. They were fried to perfection and had just enough heat/spice. The ranch dip served with them was good. Our entree orders were taken and delivered within a reasonable amount of time considering our group size and amount of customers in the restaurant. My friend and I shared the fried oyster plate which was delicious! The oysters, with a hint of cornmeal breading, were fried just right (not fried too hard/soft), the steak type fries were good, and the coleslaw was great! My husband had a shrimp poboy- again the shrimp were fried just right with a cornmeal breading. I didn't taste the bread. We felt that the prices were decent for everything we ordered. We were most impressed with our server, whose name I regrettably didn't get. He got our orders just right, kept multiple bills correct, and was super helpful and friendly. We visited for lunch on our way through Mobile. After seeing the other restaurants (mostly bars) on the downtown street, we decided to eat here. It had options that pleased us for lunch. I chose a cup of the soup of the day (chicken gumbo) and a chicken salad croissant. My husband had a house salad and the Monte Cristo. We were both very pleased with our choices. My review is less about the food and more about how this place was. I got the famous monte Cristo sandwich. It came with a house made honey mustard and was great. I'd come back for it. The best thing about this is they have found the right volume for their music. Loud enough where you aren't forced to eves-drop on other people but quiet enough where you never struggle to hear. Hate to knock on a small local business, but I've been drug here by my coworkers a few times- we eat together as a group maybe 3-4 times a year and apparently they keep forgetting the terrible service and overpriced, greasy food from the previous experience and keep picking the place for our quarterly lunch. I will say the interior is done well, but is reminiscent of a cruise ship on the inside- all polished wood and brass. The service has always been terribly slow, orders wrong, etc. And the food is nothing worth coming back for- the time I ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich it was basically a REALLY SAD version of a grilled cheese. Website pics looked good. Went for my 58th B-day dinner. Upon arriving, girlfriend had to wait for man locked in women's room. We were seated, ordered drinks and were asked to move to a new table near the front door (lots of traffic) as there was a large party coming needing our area. Ordered food. Bugs in salad; didn't eat. Ordered the Shrimp Oliver...small shrimp, not-deveined, waste...doo, doo, in shrimp, with not much pasta swimming in too much butter. I ate about 1/3 of dish, then just became grossed out. Thank God my girlfriend had a nice piece of Mahi-Mahi fish, which she shared. We witnessed young unprofessional male staff not willing to help female staff move tables for event prep., leaving all the chairs in dining area with no tables. We were offered one of our meals comp'd, but that's not my style. The waitress should have brought manager to our table upon voicing concerns. I had to ask for manager, she came, Karen, whom I asked to sit down for 1 minute to get on eye level. Wanted her to validate drivers license for my b-day. She said "no and only had a few seconds"...I reviewed my concerns, she apologized, then we saw her going back to waiting on tables and bartending. WHAT!! This place is way under staffed and ownership/top level management is the problem. I'm from Chicago, dine in very nice restaurants regularly and TP CROCKMIER'S Should not be in business. The real, true Monte Cristo is battered and deep-fried ham and Swiss with powdered sugar sprinkled over-the-top with honey mustard or a marmalade served on the side to dip it in. Truly a very disappointing presentation and portion for a $10 dish. We also ordered a Reuben, which was much served the same. More like a sandwich with three slices of corned beef rather than a heap of it. The side dish of steak fries was about probably 10 pieces. Also a disappointing portion and presentation. I give it two stars because the Ambience and Decor is nice. The service was average, the food was average. Disappointed!!! I ordered the seafood platter and told the waiter we were splitting the meal. When it came out it was on two plates, which is ok, but they add a extra $1.50 to the meal because they add extra fries and coleslaw and it was not a seafood platter, it was a shrimp platter. This place is really nice when you walk in, all wood bar and dining room. The food is greasy and not that good. The potato skins we're a joke! Stale potatoes with a slab of cheese not totally melted on top. I don't know how you can mess up potato skins but they did.
