The food is great. I have many favorites and sometimes branch out to try new things. This place has the best service in town. They are so nice. We love this place! We've made this specific restaurant our family tradition for Christmas Eve dinner for the past decade. They do a great job and are always accommodating despite the fact that they are busy. My wife is a vegetarian and one of our kids is a picky eater. They are always willing to just steam white meat chicken for the picky eater. There are plenty of vegetarian options for those that want no meat and everything else is selénico is for people like me that love everything. The soups are great as well and my favorite is the egg flower soup. The beer selection is limited to three but the wine selection is a bit better and of course they have the usual sodas and hot tea. Taba Taba is the Chinese restaurant of choice in our family's regular rotation. The food is great - we always get the walnut prawns, plus sautéed bok choy- and from there we mix it up. Tonight we got bbq pork chow mein, general chicken and the mixed appetizer combo. In past orders we've done hot and sour soup or won ton soup, a fried rice and lots of other dishes. What I think sets Taba Taba apart most is Ming, whom I presume is the owner and runs the front of house. She's pure sunshine. When I call in my order, she asks how I'm doing. She chats up customers during check out too, but in a natural and sincere way. I also enjoy when she says how much she loves her customers and when she brags (in a sweet way) about the popularity and quality of her spicy mustard. A very good Chinese restaurant in downtown Los Gatos. It is located on the side of the Lyndon Plaza building across from the Town Plaza with the entrance on Main Street. It is difficult on a Saturday evening to find a parking spot in the town lots behind the buildings on Santa Cruz Avenue. Arrive early with patience and you will get a parking spot eventually. The food is very good and very tasty. We were four people for dinner. We started with a large order of Chinese Chicken Salad ($15.25) which was delicious, with just the right amount of a tangy sauce. It was heaped high on the plate and enough to be one of our main courses (we are glad that we ordered the other dishes after this, or else we would have too much food). We also had an order of Egg Rolls (4 for $8.45), which were good, but not exceptional. The service was attentive and the food was prepared relatively quickly. The dishes were served sequentially, as they were ready in the kitchen. Each dish was delicious. The Orange Chicken (it was not on the dinner menu, but they made it for us) was fresh and nicely flavored with orange. The Mango Lamb ($19.95) was exceptional! Lamb with a wonderful sauce with mangos cooked in the sauce. Fantastic! We also had the Iron Plate Beef ($18.25) which, while it is sizzling plate type of dish, sizzled in the kitchen and not at the table. However the taste was great and it was a generous portion. Steamed rice was $2.25/person. I recommend this restaurant. We will be back. They accept reservations, but it was not crowded tonight (a Saturday night at 6:30 pm). read more

I came here on a Sunday based on the reviews and, um... Some of these reviewers need to expand their palates a bit. Before getting into the food - the restaurant's decor is like modernized Chinese-American, it's very clean, and has a convenient parking lot in the back. Los Gatos doesn't have the most parking so this was very useful. Service-wise also everyone was very nice. There were at least 4 people working and my guest and I were the only ones there, so everything was fast and efficient. So let's get to the crux of the matter at hand - the food. As soon as I walked in, I saw forks on the table. This is an immediate red flag because it means the food won't be authentic. But Americanized Chinese food can be good sometimes, so I overlooked this. I ordered the bbq pork, crispy wontons with meat, potstickers, and salt and pepper shrimp. Unfortunately, this is where everything started to go wrong. I heard the unmistakeable sound of a microwave starting up, and then the food started coming out. Uh oh. The pork dish was really, really bad. Overcooked and microwaved pork, in a slimy, gloppy, sweet sauce. Absolutely terrible. The potstickers were also not fresh, some of them being full of water. I'm guessing this is because they were frozen and reheated, and the meat inside leaked it's juices out. Let's be clear here - potstickers are not xiao long bao. They are not supposed to have juice inside. The "crispy" wontons were more chewy than crispy, maybe they had been fried earlier or something, I don't know. Finally, the salt and pepper shrimp was really the only thing I liked. It actually tasted decent and had lots of garlic. But the portion size, for $20, was pretty small. This meal cost me $73 with tax and tip. It was nowhere near worth it. Had I known the quality of the appetizers I'd have skipped them all. Again, service and ambiance are good, food was extremely disappointing. I will not be back. read more

Came here on a weekday evening and was pleasantly surprised by the amt of people and ambience. It's a small place tucked away in downtown Los Gatos. We ordered the Ma po tofu vegetarian and the House Tofu with veggies. I had indicated to our waitress that I usually like dishes with black beans/soy beans- so she suggested we get the House Tofu with black bean sauce. The Ma po tofu was spicy and flavorful. The House tofu was good as well but could use a little bit more spice. One of our go to places for a delicious Chinese meal. We love going in for the lunch specials, comes with soup, salad, fried rice or chow mein and a main. I believe they range from $13 - $15 dollars. The portions are just right. The flavors are on point, the orange chicken doesn't have that artificial taste they make everything with fresh ingredients. The Mongolian beef is not too spicy and goes well with the fried rice. This is the place we call anytime we are hankering for a solid Chinese take out with friends and family. They make the classic dishes you love and expect with absolute care. The chef knows what he is doing. I'm not sure if they had a change of ownership but I believe they did switch the name of the business. Parking is right across the street in a big lot, I'd say head over around 1pm as lunch rush in that general area can get pretty bad. So go around 11am or 1pm. Try them out! read more

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the bayarea. Love the food here. We get takeout regularly but dined in recently. Ambiance is warm and welcoming. The owner, Ming, is very amicable and goes around all tables chatting with the patrons. This seems to be the USP of most restaurants that do well, the extra care shown by the owners enhances the overall experience. The flavors are clean, no nonsense and absolutely delicious. The fried rice was simple with the egg taking the center stage. The hong kong fried noodles were perfectly crispy with some soy flavor on the noodles, the sauce soaking the noodles was amazing as well with perfectly cooked chicken and vegetables. What a pleasant surprise! We had planned to go to another restaurant but it was closed. Its shares an address with other places and it's tucked away on the side. Not easy to find. The food was delicious. We both ordered lunch specials. I had the sesame beef and husband had Mongolian beef. Comes with rice and soup my husband's came with a small salad. She spoke to me in Cantonese. After looking over the menu, I ordered the Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice. She said that was a good choice. Downtown Los Gatos was bustling as could be seen out the windows. Soon my Fried Rice was brought to me. In between bites, the waitress chatted with me in Cantonese. Good food and good service. It's been a year and a half since I wrote my first review of Taba Taba China Bistro, so I think that an update is long overdue. This is a small family owned business. Ming (co-owner with her chef husband) emigrated from southern China in 1989. She's proud of their restaurant and her relationship with their many regular customers, and she always greets me with a smile, by name, even if I haven't been there in a while. Their enormous menu, with over 200 choices, offers everything you can imagine from a Chinese restaurant (with the possible exception of duck). It's mostly Cantonese but they also offer Mandarin style dishes such as MooShu Pork, Sichuan style Kung Pao Chicken, and popular Westernized staples such as Vegetable Chow Mein. Their Sichuan hot-and-sour soup is perfectly spiced, and their Wor Won Ton soup ("wor" means "everything") is a meal in itself. The dining room is small but it does have one round table that seats up to eight and another that's large enough for six. There are a couple of cozy booths as well. It's nicely decorated with an elaborate mural covering the entire back wall. Based on continued excellent food and service over the years, I'm raising my rating from four to five stars. But I'm not alone in praising Taba Taba China Bistro. They just won a 2022 award for "Best Chinese Restaurant" in Los Gatos! read more

No wonder they've been named the Best Chinese Restaurant in the Best of Los Gatos. The food is fresh and delicious, the decor is lovely and the owners, Ming and her husband, are gracious hosts. And the food ... ahhhhh, the food! We particularly love the Honeyed Walnut Prawns, and one of my favorites, the Taba Taba Chicken Salad, but don't miss out on the Sizzling Rice Soup and the Black Pepper Beef...oh yummy. Stopped by for a quick lunch after grabbing our Xmas tree nearby and the owners were so friendly. Our toddler was having a meltdown and they brought out lollipops and fortune cookies . The food came out incredibly quickly and was so well presented. I came back into the area with my friends to visit Taba Taba once again and I must say, the service has not deteriorated since the last time I was here. We were seated immediately and were greeted by the owner, who served us water and brought us our menus. I was craving Ma Po Tofu, and I must say that it hit every single craving that I had. It was soft and had the right amount of spice (including being cooked well)! Another surprise hit at the table was the Taba Taba Salad, which was refreshing and crunchy. I would definitely recommend ordering that for the table if you have the chance to. The sweet and sour chicken was amazing, and paired nicely with the string beans and steamed rice. Almost all of our dishes were delivered to the table within 10-15 minutes and each dish was hot and truly a smell to behold. I'm from Hawaii & I'm quite biased on how the food taste. Located on the side of a complex...if you Google Mapped it, might give you wrong directions. Luckily there is parking near by. When you enter the restaurant, it's a very cute, intimate place. We got there nearly closing time & they were very accommodating in taking us all in. Vegetables were okay - not super flavorful and would've appreciated smaller chunks that we'd easier to eat. Tucked away in downtown Los Gatos is my new favorite Chinese spot. Friendly service , clean, no frills, but solid Chinese (Cantonese) fare. Went with a group and therefore was able to try a bunch of menu items. Wor Wonton Soup, crab puffs, egg fried rice, chicken and broccoli, Mongolian beef, seafood clay pot, salt and pepper fish and dry fried green beans. Not one dish disappointed! The soup broth was rich and flavorful, definitely not standard wonton soup broth. The fish was fried to perfection and had virtually no oil. Not sure how they pulled that off!! The clay pot was packed with seafood and tofu and the sauce was full of umami flavor. Even the crab puffs (aka crab Rangoon) was not creamy at all. The pastry they used was unlike I've ever had. We've been here and grabbed take out - loads! Apparently the prior owners weren't great, but the current ones are amazing! We're not Bay Area natives (come from the UK), where Chinese take-out is big! Upon moving here we've really had some bad Chinese take-out.
