This place is in the lobby of the Club Quarters hotel. They have dine in, to-go, and room service delivery for the hotel. There is a bar in the center of the dining room. The dining room is pretty small but it was never crowded at any point throughout the weekend. They have a few tables outside on the sidewalk but they are at the same place as the valet parking so the ambience is not very relaxing. The staff was very friendly. I was greeted and served immediately upon seating. They were very helpful with the menu options and they were very accommodating with special requests. I ordered to-go and it was ready within 10 minutes. They were attentative throughout the process and they offered water as I waited. They have a breakfast menu and lunch/dinner. I did not have anything from the breakfast menu but the dishes I saw looked and smelt very good. I ordered some steak fries and a bison burger. Being that bison is extremely low in fat I ordered it cooked medium rare to avoid it from being dry and they cooked it perfectly. The patty was a bit small for the overall composition of the burger and it did not have much seasoning. I asked for my burger to not include sauce and add grilled onions. The onions ended up being thick slices of raw red onion and it was a bit overwhelming. The lettuce might have been spinach or arugula which I did not think worked very well on the burger because it was a bit bitter for the mild bison and it quickly wilted. I would have preferred a more crispy mild lettuce such as romaine, green leaf, or even just iceberg. The bun was very good but it was very large compared to the rest of the burger. Overall, the burger was acceptable but nothing special and I would look at other options instead. The steak fries were fantastic. They had the perfect amount of crisp but the interior was still soft. They were seasoned well with salt and they were not oily. I think the fries were by far the best part of the meal. Overall, this is a nice place to have a meal if you are staying in downtown Houston. The first time I came here I had no problems with food or service. The second time was completely different. There were no problems with the food, but it was the service that really made the experience regrettable. I walk in with my group and we are a barely acknowledged by the hostess and waiter who are sitting down having a nice chat with themselves. We are seated and having a child with us, ask for a high chair several times from our waiter. My friend got so fed up she actually went to the back room and found a high chair on her own. Caramelized onions and their own "dispread" (mayonnaise-y sauce). So yummy. I had two bites and wanted more. I did not make the same mistake again when I convinced my coworkers to come here for lunch. (Yes, it's downtown, convenient walk from my office! Score! There is too much good food around here, no wonder I gain weight). I was ready with Starbucks in hand at 3pm to combat the major food coma that Alice T. mentioned. The Kobe Burger is a SLAMDUNK. I mean, is there any other meat better than Kobe Beef? Maybe a Lobster that is fed with Kobe Beef or vice versa? The Kobe Burger had caramelized onions and a special mayo spread. It was a nice compliment to the fancy meat. The fries were meh? I liked the decor at Table 7. The seating was so comfortable. It is a nice escape from my swivel chair in my cramped cubicle at work. I went at 1:30pm, which was after the lunch rush, Therefore, I was one of the few customers there. The bartender was super friendly and I even heard him steer another patron away from their restaurant to another one because they had better whatever she was in the mood for,I give him kudos for that. Pleasantly surprised by this place! Went here for lunch yesterday, and I wasn't expecting much. I had passed by this many many times on my way out to lunch, but had never thought twice about it. I tried the kobe beef burger with caramelized onions. It was delicious on a perfectly toasted wheat bun. I have to reiterate - PERFECTLY toasted. While the wheat bun was pretty standard fare, the toast on it definitely brought the burger experience up. The burger was delicious and filling, though honestly I couldn't really find anything special about the "kobe beef". The sweet potato fries that came along side with it were fantastic as well! Sweet, crispy, and not greasy at all. The prices were reasonable as well - only about $10. Other coworkers got their flatbread pizzas, a salmon burger, and a salmon dish, and everything at least looked delicious and we had no complaints. Great find downtown for lunch. Before I began the criticism, to be fair, my party and I arrived around 8:30-ish - so I should consider some unpleasantries were a result of that. I was under the assumption that they closed at 11p but let's go with it. Arrived on a Friday night to a relatively empty restaurant (the construction in the area is horrid). Walking in and there was no one (besides the bartender who, although saw me, did not acknowledge me there) to seat us. The maitre'd , waiter, or whomever walks passed me, outside, to clear off the outdoor patio tables. He walks back in passed me. Still says nothing. No acknowledgement. As he proceeds to walk back towards the door, I finally ask him should I seat myself. He apologizes, says "yes", and I do. The ambiance was cool (dimly lit). I attempt to find the cleanest table to sit while my dinner date is parking. I choose the sofa seating so that we have a decent view of the tv (summer Olympics are on). The sofa was filthy! All types of crumbs, debris, stds and whatnot. Ew! A middle aged couple directly in front of me, at the bar, making out (as if there isn't a hotel 20 ft. away). Ew! Waiter comes and tells me I should hurry and order because the kitchen closes at 9. Wat? Ok. I order the mahi mahi burger. Date ordered Kobe burger. The mahi mahi burger had potential. Fish was overcooked I think. The waiter proved to be not so much of the schmuck I thought he'd be. Kind of too "down", I mean considering... They did turn the lights on on us tho! Service was great. Food was just alright. Atmosphere is really lacking. The spinach artichoke stuffed chicken was tasty, but the sides were really bland. My fiance ordered the pork chop which was not bad but definitely underwhelming. He also did not care for his sides. We both ordered vegetables and they were just steamed. Beer and wine selection is really limited as well. The other District places are much better. Maybe Table 7 doesn't have the capacity to be as good because it is so much smaller. Or maybe we went on a weird night. The bartender did say they had a huge rush right before we came in. But that doesn't really excuse the lack of ambiance, which was honestly the biggest disappointment. Table 7 has the potential to be a really cozy, intimate restaurant. But the white walls and cheap decor make it seem really generic. It's a great option for those staying in the hotel, but I wouldn't recommend this to others. read more

We were staying at Club Quarters and decided just to stay in the hotel for dinner because a fabulous thunderstorm had blown up. Thankfully, we budgeted extra time because this was one of my slowest dining experiences to date. For what it's worth, the server was trying, but something was just off about her. She was very nice, but I'm not sure waiting tables is the best choice for her. She took forever to bring anything, and she forgot my friend's wine right out. When I asked her about the wine, she just said, "Yeah?" as if she didn't know what I was asking, so I had to add, "It never came." She did immediately bring it, but it was just a clear example of the whole meal overall. The food was fine. It was nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. Outrageously bad. On a business trip, my group of 5 came here for dinner. It's a Monday, MLK Day and not a lot of patrons. Our order still took over an hour. Most of the food was cold when it finally arrived. We had to send a pizza back to be reheated. The $26 "medium rare" steak, however, was burned to a crisp. I should have snapped a pic - it was that bad. When we complained, the server said she immediately noticed it was overdone when it came out of the kitchen (and for some inexplicable reason served it anyway). She assured us another steak was coming that we could take to go if needed. It never arrived. Neither did the drinks we ordered. For our trouble, we received $18 off our tab of $100+. I'm staying at the Club Quarters upstairs for a week and will walk as many blocks as it takes to avoid eating here again. read more

The prices charged are different than the ones at the door, so be aware. I love this little jewel. Each night I walk in after a hard day's work, I am greeted with friendly conversation and wonderful food. Each and every entrée I have had, from the turkey meatloaf to the black shrimp carbonara is delicious. The real icing on the cake so to speak are the people behind the bar, in the kitchen, and the very friendly and efficient waiters. Rob is especially friendly. He manages a sometimes very hectic bar with friendly conversation. He is always quick to notice if you need something and is right there with a suggestion on wine or a tasty entrée. Stopped in here on a weeknight for a somewhat quick dinner before a show, not knowing what to expect. I really liked the menu, in fact I had the most difficult time choosing what to order because everything sounded really good! The blackened mahi mahi tostadas were very good, perfectly coooked fish with black beans and slaw over corn tortillas. I could tell the tostada was prepared to order, and was home made. It was super crispy without being greasy. My friend ordered the tuna, she almost cried it was so good. I did not try it cause I don't like tuna (sad but true, yes I have tried it MANY times), but she said it was some of the best tuna she's had. It looked perfectly seared on all sides, bright pink in the middle. It had some mildly spicy glaze drizzled over it. She absolutely loved it. The boyfriend ordered the panko crusted chicken salad and he raved about his dish also. The chicken was fried, but the breading was light and crispy and not oily/heavy at all. The dressing was light and not over-coating the salad greens. Then we split a flat bread pizza as an appetizer, we got wild boar sausage and pesto pizza and it was divine! crispy crust, perfect pesto, the boar sausage had so much flavor, it was perfection. I ordered the ribeye which was recommended by the waiter as one of their best meals. I asked for it to be cooked medium well and a side of broccoli & potatoes. The steak was tough, not seasoned good at all, not juicy & honestly I questioned was it even a ribeye! Cut into and the steak was bloody. After remaking the steak twice and still not correct, I gave up! Broccoli was cold and not steamed long enough. Potatoes were under done as well. The entire meal was awful! As a chance to correct their mistakes they offered a creme brûlée which tasted like it was microwaved with sugar sprinkled on top. Unquestionably, hands down, without a doubt, Table 7 gets the award for the worse restaurant experience of 2010. I came here for a bday dinner party on a Saturday night around 7:30. Prior to coming, I read the reviews on yelp to get some insight on what to order and what to expect. What I was hoping not to expect was the terrible service that majority of the reviewers had complained about, however, that wasn't the case. The service was absolutely horrible. We had to constantly waive down the waiter every time we needed something, like from taking our main course order to filling our water glasses when they were empty, and the worse part of it was the gratuity was included in the bill, so no matter how awful the service was, it wasn't going to be reflected on the tip, which is very fortunate for them because I honestly would have tipped 5%. For the main course I ordered the Kobe burger that everyone on yelp raved about. Because I had eaten a burger twice that week, I was leaning more towards the lasagna to be honest, but since it was not an Italian restaurant, I felt the Kobe burger was safest option. How wrong I later found out. The Kobe burger was over cooked. I was supposed to be cooked medium, but it was more like well done. It was like eating a hamburger at mc donalds. The burger had no flavor what so ever and because it was over cooked, it wasn't juicy or moist at all. I usually don't complain about the silverware, but at the prices they were charging, the silverware was really cheap. read more

What a terrible experience!! Our office took a co-worker to Table 7 for his birthday lunch- there were 9 of us total. We called ahead (unnecessarily) and made reservations. I say unnecessarily, as there was not a table ready for us upon our arrival (we all contributed to moving tables around to make something work) and there were only two other tables currently being served in the entire restaurant. Our orders took about 40 minutes to arrive, which I wasn't upset about, as there were 9 of us... though another two tables of folks sat down after we ordered, were served (and left) before us. The waiter was less than attentive and the food was mediocre...In fairness, I might have rated it slightly higher than "mediocre" if the rest of the lunch hadn't turned into such a catastrophe. Upon receipt of the bill, we each wrote out what we ordered on the back of the receipt, next to the names on our credit cards, in an attempt to make it easier for the waiter to split the check. Another 40 MINUTES later, we still hadn't gotten the checks back. Some of our party ended up having to leave before the checks returned, because they had to get back to work. When I went to check on the waiter, he said he still had "two more cards to swipe" (45 minutes after receiving them) and gave the excuse that he had other tables to wait on in the interim... there were literally TWO tables of two customers each besides our table in the restaurant at this time. When we finally DID get the checks, there were mistakes aplenty. Some had not been charged for their food at all, and some had been charged double and TRIPLE for their meals... (One of our guys had $80 worth of incorrect charges, in three separate transactions, for his one-entree lunch). My bill was "incorrectly charged and cancelled twice", according to the waiter. When I gave him my credit card to run for a THIRD time, the total was an entirely different number altogether... I have FOUR transactions on my bank statement from this one lunch today, as do half of the colleagues who attended this afternoon. The majority of our party was forced to return to work as we rounded out HOUR-TWO of our lunch, while a few of us stayed behind in an attempt to settle up. When we asked questions about totals or for an itemized receipt, the waiter began asking for whoever's card ended in these "last TWO digits"... What?! It was a complete mess. Finally, fed up with the chaos, I asked him how difficult it would be to cancel all of the transactions from our party and charge it all onto my one card... he said this would be super easy, so I decided to take this route to save us all the unnecessary stress and headache of trying to figure out what he had and hadn't done... This process took him ANOTHER 30 MINUTES, and when asked for the receipts that showed everyone's orders had been cancelled, he said he had "thrown them away", so we have no way of proving that he cancelled the other orders (Subesequently all of our credit cards stil show charges from lunch...) By this time, there was only ONE person at ONE table in the restaurant... Meanwhile, a man I can only assume to have been the Manager, walked in to complain to a member of the wait staff about there being dirty glasses on the bar... in this utterly desolate restaurant... She cleaned up the few glasses, and he looked right at us (you could say, the ONLY people in/standing at the bar and clearly in distress) and simply asked her something to the effect of, "What are they (us) doing? Is someone handling them?"... The waitress responded that our waiter was dealing with some sort of a mix-up and the Manager guy immediately cut her off to take a phone call and proceeded to wander around the restaurant aimlessly talking on his cell, instead of checking on us, inquiring about the problem, working to fix it, offering to comp ANYTHING... The waiter apologized at the end, but didn't even pretend to offer to rectify the situation any further. What was initially going to be a pleasant, quick, low-key birthday lunch for a co-worker turned into a TWO-HOUR NIGHTMARE! I will never return to this restaurant, as the food wasn't good enough to merit this terrible level of service and incompetency at all levels. read more

Pork Chop n hair. Ordered the pork chop and it was very good especially the sauce. Arrived at the table very hot. Had not sat on the pass to get cold. The broccolini was also beautifully cook. I think the mashed potato's were supposed to have truffles but I could not taste it. Knife n fork ate entire pork chop. The bit around the bone had to be gotten to. My inner caveman awoke. Went to pick up the chop and focused on the center. Curly black hair was there camouflaged by the blackness of the bone. Pretty gross. At least it didn't end up in my mouth. Asked to speak to a manager who was not scheduled. There is a small chance it was my hair but I have a number 2 crew cut, no beard, and my eyebrows aren't that long. Only one waitress working. I think 4 tables had been served when I walked in. Annoying little man on speaker talking with what I believe was his therapist. None the less felt like I wanted to apologize to the waitress for being there. Waitresses get very poorly paid. 15.00 minimum should be standard. No apology. Let's hope this isn't the norm. So I think service is just great! Food is good, not great, but the portions are pretty large. Lunch menu is around $10-15 per entree. The food was good. Not great but this place has potential. The server/cook/bar tender - yes, one person - did a good job managing multiple patrons while cooking meals. A second server showed up as I was preparing to leave. Given the absence of staffing it's clearly understandable why service was so slow. This circumstance is not unique to this establishment. Table 7---the only other decently priced restaurant that was still unique and yummy that I could find during my conference in Houston last week. The vibe is hip, but laidback and casual....it's a small restaurant with the bar in the center of the restaurant. It seems like the perfect place to meet up for happy hour/dinner with friends. I had the Penne Pesto with grilled fennel sausage...which was a good, solid choice. It didn't blow my mind...but to be honest, I was so happy to find a cool neighborhood place within walking distance from my hotel, I was still happy. My dinner companion had the special, which was some kind of specially spiced shrimp burger--and she loved it. Our waiter was nice and managed not to hover (which I hate), but to still be attentive enough to refill out drinks and what-not. The prices are great- everything on the menu is $11 or less, except for the Chef's Grilled Entrees..and those are still under $20. My only small complaint is that they actually have "Soup and Salad's" on their menu. Unless their salads own something, it should just be Salads (for plural, meaning more than 1), and frankly I hate when official printed business information has crazy, extraneous apostrophes all over the place. If it's not showing ownership or a contraction, there's no apostrophe!!!! But that's an easy fix. ;-) read more
