My sister had bacon, scrambled eggs & home fries. My dad had sausage gravy & biscuits w/home fries. We each loved our food!!! Our waitress, Gloria, was awesome! Oh and there is on-site parking which was a big plus after spending money for hotel & DC museums parking! I deducted a star for 2 reasons: 1 my biscuit was so super dry that I put some of my dad's gravy on it just to eat it and 2 there was no flavored coffee creamer or a coffee alternate like cappuccino or latte. My girlfriends and I used to come to this place after a long night of partying back in the day. It was always perfect because it pumped us full of carbs, and we didn't have to spend a whole lot of money. The menu is small and to the point, which is refreshing at the right place. I ordered the French toast with a side of sausage patties, and Justin got an omelet with home fries and a stack of blueberry pancakes. Then food was just what we needed on a Sunday morning. Being from South Jersey where there is a diner on every corner, I always appreciate cute little charming eateries like this. I ordered an omelet, home fries and buttered toast. The portion size was decent for the cost but the food was pretty bland. That didn't bother me much because my expectations weren't that high. Ordered breakfast from here- short stack,French toast w/side of bacon and scrambled egg,an omelet and 2 large apple juices. The food was decent. The only thing that annoyed me was the apple juice cups were very small and I received 2 pieces of bacon as a side. The potatoes that came with the eggs weren't that great,very mushy. read more

I recently visited table talk and my waitress a short older Latina was extra rude to me for apparently no reason... I sat myself made eye contact with her and she said one minute then promptly greeted guests that walked in about 10 mins after me I had been waiting 15 minutes to place an order... then my food comes out I ask for a refill on my soda and instead of refilling my soda she goes and checks on all her other tables first. So I get one refill and had most of my meal left the lady never comes back and I watch her check on every other table she has over and over... so when I'm done eating I want a to go box and she never comes back... so when I go to the counter and she sees I didn't leave a tip she actually confronts me like I have to tip her for her poor service absolutely outrageous... I feel like it was a bit racist because everyone else she constantly checked on were several shades lighter than me... wont be going back at all! read more

In lieu of doing any real traveling during the pandemic, I opted for a 3-night staycation in Old Town Alexandria. On my second full day, I craved a good breakfast. To my wonder and surprise, the Table Talk Restaurant was close to my hotel and proved to be the best spot. I ordered French toast and bacon and was pleasantly surprised. The French toast was reminiscent of big morning meals with my family when I was a child. The French toast (3 slices, halved) was warm and buttery with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon.... the perfect thickness and Just plain delicious! I used a dab of syrup, but it was so good you could totally skip the syrup... yes, that good. The bacon was crispy, good and plentiful (6 slices). The best part is that I devoured the entire meal (don't judge me, lol) without feeling stuffed! If you get a chance, try them out! I will definitely return! read more

We came here with my in laws (including my sister-in-law) and our three nephews in August. We visited there at least three times in the five days we were there and the boys kept asking to go back every day. This past week, hubs and I went by ourselves and visited four times in five days - two brunch times and two dinner times. The last time we were there we brought our friends and their twins. Everyone loves this place. My favorites are the meatloaf, the turkey dinner, the fish and chips, and the bacon grilled cheese. Hidden behind the warm smiles of Table Talk's wait staff is crippling incompetence. My girlfriend and I ordered french toast, cornbeef hash, and pancakes. For our drinks, we ordered two waters, a coffee, and hot chocolate. The coffee and hot chocolate came out fast, but the waters never came. We then waited 45 minutes for our dishes to come out. Multiple tables seated after us got their food before us, albeit those tables were complained that they got the wrong orders or that they did not get their drinks. When we asked the waitress, she said our food "would be right up." We waited 5 more minutes, and she came back and said "I just checked with the kitchen and your food will be here in 2 minutes." When she came back five minutes later, she was armed with a single sandwich for my girlfriend. We told her we didn't order a sandwich, and that I was waiting for food too. She got flustered, and it was apparent that she had completely forgotten what our order was and had not put it in in the first place. I put $10 on the table for our coffees and hot chocolates and we walked out. I REALLY wanted to like this place. But their service is ATROCIOUS. It's a weird paradox, because the wait staff and management seem like genuinely good, nice people. But they can't run a restaurant. Maybe there was a time when the experience here was good, but it seems like that time has long passed. Sadlly, I won't be wasting my time here again. I was looking on Yelp for a family owned restaurant with great breakfast/brunch food... I'm so happy I took a chance and ordered delivery from Table Talk. This has been the second time we order from them and once again it was delicious! I got the omelette with sausage, tomatoes and American cheese with home fries (I will say these home fries are my favorite of all time!) and I was also craving a chocolate chip pancake. I'll start off by saying that the portions are LARGE and the prices are great! My food was stored very nicely and it was warm even after getting it delivered. I ordered from them on Grubhub in August. I am on Franconia about a mile west of Telegraph and had the meal in a little less than an hour. I got a Reuben sandwich ($8.95), a Greek salad ($8.95), hot chocolate ($2.25), and a sausage ($2.95). All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty, especially the salad. I especially like the feta cheese in Greek salad. Greek salad is the best in my opinion. Reuben sandwiches have rye bread, sliced corn beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing. All of these ingredients give Reuben sandwiches a sharp, dry, and slightly salty flavor which I really like (https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/47717/reuben-sandwich-ii/). I also like the hot cheese. The delivery fee was $2.49, the sales tax was $2.54, the service fee was $1.44, and the tip for the driver was $6.51. I do not mind paying a tip to the driver, but I should not have to pay delivery and service fees to Grubhub. The expense of delivery is borne by the driver and not by Grubhub. This is on top of the 30% fee Grubhub charges to the restaurant. I also object to the 11% Alexandria sales tax on restaurant meals. This was extremely controversial when Alexandria enacted it a few years ago. There is no way this tax is not causing Alexandria restaurants to lose business. The sales tax in Fairfax County is only 5%. This is on top of Grubhub fees and driver tips. The problem with Grubhub orders in Alexandria is that four parties are trying to make money from the transaction: the restaurant, Grubhub via fees to the diner and the restaurant, Alexandria via the sales tax, and the driver via the tip. What happens with so many parties trying to make money from the same transaction is that the price to the consumer is very expensive, and yet none of the parties is making very much money--except for Grubhub. I have always said the more parties you add to a transaction, the more problems you are going to have. Many times all of the fees can add 50% to 100% to the cost of the meal. I only order from Grubhub half as often as I would like to because of all the fees. I cannot be the only one who is deterred from ordering. My issues are with Grubhub and not the restaurant. This is a great place for a Northeastern-style (NY, PA, etc.) lunch. No complaints. read more

I desired breakfast food for a meal around 4 p.m. so naturally we ended up here in this ma & pa typed restaurnat. Initially when I drove by Table Talk in the morning the parking lot was packed and people were waiting to turn into the lot-- this was an indication to me that the food was good. Unfortunately we had poor service. The restaurant was under-staffed and we waited around 5 minutes after being seated before asking who was serving us. My fiancé ordered a Texas Tommy and I ordered a Vegetable Omelette. The Texas Tommy came with fries but wasn't very filling, despite being wrapped in bacon. My omelette was great, as were the home fries. I was filled but he ordered a stack of pancakes to help fill his belly. The manager of the restaurant worked hard to compensate for the lack of servers. She got our drinks, gave people their checks and eventually ended up helping in the kitchen. Table Talk has been on my list for the longest time (maybe 8 years or so?), ever since I saw it on my first trip to VA - boy, was I excited to finally try them out! This restaurant has been around since '76, and has been owned & run by the Kapetanakis family. They serve up breakfast items, such as: omelettes, breakfast plates (egg with home fries, breakfast meat, and toast), pancakes, cereal, pastries, fruits, juices, and drinks. The hubs had one of the breakfast plates, which came with 2 eggs of any style (scrambled), sausage, home fries, and buttered toast (they have white, wheat, rye, etc.); he also added a side of corned beef hash. I had the Steak and Eggs, which came with a NY strip steak (thinly-cut), 2 eggs (I had mine over medium; it came a little overcooked), a side of extra well-done home fries (SO CRISPY AND SO GOOD!!!), and buttered rye toast (2, cut in halves; comes with a side of grape jelly) - I thought this combo was pretty tasty, and the portion was generous in size. We also shared one of their breakfast specials, the 'Creamed Beef on Toast' - this was like a gravy concoction, smothered on 3 or 4 thick-cut toast, with a side of home fries - the gravy itself was quite overwhelming in terms of the amount, and it was on the bland side; I think I would have preferred sausage gravy or chipped beef. Service was friendly, and there seems to be regular locals who come in. The place closes early (3PM everyday, except on Sundays (where it closes at 2:30)), and they have a small lot for your car. The restaurant itself is quite cute, as it looks like an indoor garden patio (kind of like what you would find in NOLA). We enjoyed it so much, we will be returning throughout our visit here. We also recommended to someone in the hotel we are visiting. I had breakfast at Table Talk Sunday morning. Table Talk is essentially an overgrown diner: eggs, pancakes, French toast, grits. Diner style watery coffee, regularly refilled by the waitress. Nothing nouveau, updated or trendy. The service is fast and friendly. You pay the cashier who banters with you. And you bump into old friends, well-dressed people heading to and from church, and folks taking out breakfast in styrofoam containers. There's free parking. You would call TT "retro" except they aren't trying to be ironic, retro, or hip. This is just the way they've made and sold food since, I'd guess, the 1960s. read more

So I really think this place is more like a 2.5, but I didn't want to round up to 3. I went here with my boyfriend because we were in the mood for some breakfast after puttering around on Saturday morning. This was close so we figured, why not. After all it had about a 3 star rating. When we went in, it was quite busy, but we were seated right away. Unfortunately it took awhile before anyone came over to offer us coffee or even take our order. The coffee once it came was nothing special. Your standard diner style. At least it was hot. I decided to get the bacon omelet with provolone cheese. It was good, though nothing special. It came with grits and toast. My one BIG complaint - instant grits (that's what they tasted like anyway - lumpy and old). I love grits and I know it doesn't take much to make them. I would have even been okay with a few lumps just so that the creaminess was there that you get from grits that are cooked for more than 5 minutes. Love this place, it's staff, and it's food! The first time I ever went there was to pick up a to-go order for my work, it was January and absolutely freezing, the owner kindly gave me a small cup of cream of celery soup to try and warm me up, and of course it was delicious! I work close by so I became a bit of a regular, the staff has always been lovely and the food great. I'm a big fan of their salads and blue cheese dressing, their omelettes, and basically anything I've ever had there. My only regret is that due to my low-carb diet that I never got to have any of their delicious pastries and desserts. It's a great place and I highly recommend it! read more

OK... so I am going to update my previous review. The first time we came here it did not impress. I have been twice since then and both of the other two times it was much better. My first visit I obviously was trying to be way too "foo-foo" in a casual diner with Eggs Benedict and Bloody Mary. As long as you go into it with the expectation of pancakes, omelettes, eggs, bacon, sausage... nothing fancy, you will be just fine. The last two times I visited I had the Garbage Omelette and it was GOOD. They even accommodated my special request to replace the toast and potatoes with sliced tomatoes. The food is never going to be anything to write home about . . .it's good but nothing to highlight. But the service? On this visit it was outstanding. Gail, our server, took great care of my mom and me in making sure that our coffee cups were never empty, our food was quickly served and she did it all with a style that was fun and engaging. This place is always packed but they are able to move people through so that the wait is usually only 10 minutes or so. We came on this visit at 9:30 on a Saturday and and were seated by 9:45. There is a parking lot that fills up quickly so grab a spot if you see it. Prices are really reasonable- breakfast runs about $10 a person which is very good given the quantity of food that you receive. It's my "go to" place when I am in this neck of the woods! read more

This location has a nice homely small town diner feel to it. Nothing overly spectacular about the venue appearance wise or any exotic items food wise however, they stick with the classics and the service is excellent. Wait times are very low in my several experiences coming here. I generally go for breakfast, the pancakes and the steak and eggs are usually some of my favorite items off their American diner fare menu. All in all I've had no bad experiences here to speak of and I'd recommend this as a place fit for a nice family outing. read more
