Love this place in the Marina. My friend and I come here ALL the time and its very consistent. The food is always very fresh, the drinks, although simple are great (sangria, beer, margarita, sodas, etc). I go back and forth between Tacos Nicks Way and the Tacko Salad with beef. Overall pretty good. Owned by the guy who did Nick's Crispy Tacos. Neat little Nantucket theme and the food is good but I wouldn't say great. The tortilla soup had really good, fresh ingredients but the broth left something to be desired. Sangria was okay. The waitress actually brought it over and told me that another customer said it was too bitter, and she offered to give me a glass from a new batch. I appreciated her honesty. Prices are reasonable. I'd go back if I was in the area and wanted something quicker and more affordable than other nearby options, but if I'm not already in the area, there's nowhere I'd go for Mexican food sooner than I'd go to the Mission. read more

I yelped today while acting as tour guide for a friend from southern Spain. He wanted to eat a"Real Burrito " SF style! He's a vegetarian - I'm not. We were in the Marina heading for Marin Headlands GG Recreation Area. Tacko sounded like a good spot for us. It was excellent! His Vegetarian Burrito was just as good as my Carnitas Burrito. Really enjoy going to this place. My go to is the SoCal burrito with carne asada as the French fries really add a nice touch. NEVER EAT HERE if you are a vegetarian or selective in which meat you eat. The "cooks" made a mistake and put beef in my burrito and when I found it by taking a big bite and told the workers they told me it must've been a mistake and not to worry about it. I'm amazed at how many people are complaining about paying $8 for a burrito at this place. You are correct, there is a slight premium for the cost of one of their burritos due to the location and the money they sank into this place. Having said that, it's a small premium, the food is pretty damn good, and its a very nice spot to lounge and enjoy your food. I am no SF burrito rookie- I've eaten at many of the alleged best spots in this city. I was very impressed with the Carne Asada California burrito here at Tacko, which was stuffed with french fries and plenty of melted cheese. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, but I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty and flavorful this burrito was. I have been to many places for an authentic taco street style and Tacko has this down to everything done perfect, not to mention all the ingredients are fresh and all organic. Two steak tacos and a watermelon agua fresca with crushed ice is the way to go. All in all a perfect place for an all around great meal. I look forward in coming back again soon. read more

I have been a taco Nick's way fan for years so having them now locally has been such a treat. The shop is always clean and fresh, a great interior space that just feels calm and relaxing. Burritos feel healthy and the taco salad is a nice change from the usual fare. While they don't have a full bar to offer, the Margaritish made with Agave and triple sec is spectacular and offers a strong punch. Often Nick will stroll down the line of people waiting to order and offer a drink. Doesn't get any better than that. read more

Being a fellow local business owner I have tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but I refuse to go anymore. Every time I have gone to this restaurant they mess up the order. Either forgetting the order completely, adding something or not adding something that I asked for. For being a "Mexican" restaurant the food takes an extremely long time to make and you really don't get anything that tasty or spectacular. My favorite lunch taco spot by far. The Black bean and Corn salad with your choice of meat is fantastic. I went with Mahi Mahi and could eat it every day. The Tacos are perfect, not too big not to small with enough of everything you want in it. It took me over 3 visits before i tried tacos "nicks way" oh my god are those good. The staff do seem a bit aloof at times but the food is oh so good. If you stay they have sparking water on tap to enjoy and if you decide to get it to go they give you free chips and salsa! read more

My go-to taco joint! Their guacamole is exceptional, their carnitas are succulent, their burritos are massive and their "Nicks Way" Tacos are a must! it's not a traditional Taqueria at all but the quality of the food speaks for itself. The wall of hot sauces and homemade fruit drinks (both virgin and no-no style available) are welcome additions but their homemade salsas/sauces ain't too shabby either. This place was within walking distance of our hotel. I'm not quite sure what they're going for as far as what the restaurant is supposed to be. It has a nautical theme with Nantucket decorations, they serve Mexican food, and the to go cartons are Chinese takeout. LOL However, the food is AMAZING. This is the only place that we have come back to twice. The red sauce that they have on the tables is one of the best sauces I have ever tried. Ah, nothing makes me think of tacos like .... Nantucket(?) Tacko's food is decent (but far from the best in town), but my problem is that they keep discovering new ways to screw up my dining experience. There was a summerlong streak there where they messed up or forgot my order about one in three times (yes, it happened often enough that we started counting). Credit where it's due, that doesn't seem to happen much anymore, but now there are more creative issues. This Saturday I splurged and ordered a side of (overpriced) guacamole to go with the handful of chips that accompany the burritos. What do I discover when I finally get back and open the bag? Guac, but no chips. It's like a cruel form of torture. I went back and discovered that their fryer was broken so they didn't have enough chips to go around. They said that they'd have to charge me for chips (which was not explained while I was at the register, of course). I should have asked if I could charge them for my time spent hungrily going all the way back to their shop. We could have made it an even trade: my time for the meal I'd ordered in the first place. Tacko, we shouldn't have given you so many chances in the first place. From now on let's just do ourselves a favor and go to La Canasta: nicer people, better prices, faster service, fewer screw-ups, and MUCH more authentic food. read more

This is a long overdue post, but I still wanted to give the team at Tacko their props!!! I threw my husband a birthday party at the wine bar next door and was lucky enough to have Tacko cater the food. They not only worked with all of my food requests to customize a menu for me (I was serving a bunch of "San Diegans" who always complain about the mexican food in the bay), but was able to work very closely with the wine bar to make sure everything ran smoothly and was set up for us (including plates, utensils, a variety of hot sauces, to go boxes for leftovers, etc...). Now for the food - My favorite is the Elote / corn (reminds me of our girls trips to NY), but everything was really good... Even the Sd guys approved of the food (which is very rare for bay area mexican food! hahah)!! Best part - there was so much food that even after everyone ate, we had some leftovers for the next day (Football + Tacko leftovers = Sunday Funday!). read more

Popped in for the first time today to have lunch with my friend who works around the corner. I like the boat/nautical interior design. It's clean and has a lot of individual seating with some 4-tops and a large communal table. We sat outside since it was nice out. I ordered the "Mexican" burrito with chicken and told them to make it spicy. The burrito tasted really good and the spice level perfect. They offer tons of hot sauces which I used the Tapatio. Even without the hot sauce, the burrito had a nice kick. The tortilla was cooked, so these are the kind of burritos you hold and eat with your hands, no cutlery needed. I also got their guacamole appetizer which contained veges instead of chips. It was ok - nothing bad, nothing wow. Would I order it if I were eating alone? No. Would I eat it in a group, yes. All in all, next time I visit my friend or happen to be in the neighborhood, I'll come back. I recommend it! read more

I walked into this place not expecting much of the food, but left pleasantly surprised. I ordered the San Francisco with carne asada and prawns (no guac) and it was probably one of the best burritos I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned and juicy down the very last bite. I was originally going to put some hot sauce on it, but I completely forgot about that after a few bites and just wanted to savor the actual flavor on its own. The place is cute and clean. The help is only so so friendly. I ordered "Poco Queso" because I had to eat something small and fast. Ew! Horrible. Menu reads: Just melted jack cheese folded in a crispy flour tortilla" How can you mess that up? This product is fried. Why doesn't it say that? It looked deep fried and when I bit into it buckets of oil squirted out onto my blouse. I tried one more bite because I was hungry and it was just so riddled with oil, I had to toss the whole thing.
