So wanted to love Tacko - DISAPPOINTED. Clean and hip but very noisy. I could barely hear my dinner companion and she was sitting right next to me. I ordered the Crispy Fish Burrito because we were huge fans of Nick's Crispy Tacos until the management changed. Thought we would try Tacko - Good tasting food. HOWEVER the experience was like finding Nemo. I ordered the Crispy Fish Burrito, which made me think of the granny in the old Wendy's commercials with Where's the Beef? Just substitute fish for beef. I think I ate a whole cabbage when consuming the first half of the burrito then when I entered the second half, I finally got to "some" fish. at $8.50/burrito, I think the premium is attributable to the cabbage and certainly not the fish. The three stars awarded here is because Tacko has a wonderful and free water dispenser. The inclusion of sparkling water for free, should set an example here in San Francisco - water should be free and the $10 water at restaurants should be a thing of the past. read more

8pm on a Tuesday night. Dropped in here for a quick bite while on an aimless walking tour of the hood. The 30min wait in line was not bad... it gives the eyes a chance to acclimate to the universe that is this strange, strange place. The walls are white. Everything is perfect, like a magazine. They have a nice accessible water-station that you can hit up while in line for the ride. At this amazing oasis of refreshment, not only do they have REAL glasses, there's also have a machine that dispenses fizzy-water(all for free). A woman comes to the front for a pick-up order, cradling a dog in her right arm... some little exotic breed with frizzy fur. Once edging closer to the front of the line, you will have finished your water, prepared for the visual onslaught your eyes will experience. Behold the aguas frescas. Wow. So many colors. I want them all. But the woman behind the counter is staring at me. I need to order, but I can't hesitate and cause a rift. I haven't even glanced at the menu yet. Maybe I should have spent less time staring at the huge painted map of the kingdom of Nantucket on the wall, wondering if they're ruled by a benevolent leader who is wise and brave. "One American wagyu kobe beef carne asada california burrito for me... and a taco vegetariano for my attorney" Did I read it right? At this point, I'm reconsidering my decision to have eaten the entire cookie before coming here, but the rule of irreversibility is definitely at play in this case. The show must go on. The food seems to be taking an eternity, but time moves in a different fashion here. The hot-sauce choices are so numerous that it takes up two entire shelves on the wall. Turning to the dining room, in front of you unfolds a montage of guys with boat-shoes.... and woo-girls with dyed blonde hair. While the well-rehearsed laughs may seem hystrionic at first, they are actually marina mating-calls. It's important that we don't disrupt them, lest their natural predators become aware of their presence. The burrito comes. It is amazing. With restraint, one can make two meals out of a it... but wait, they already thought of that too! At the dish/utensil depository, there are foil sheets you can use to wrap up something for later. Perfect. Reflecting upon the experience, I admit the prices are a little beyond-proletarian, especially if you indulge in their extensive selection of beverages. I'm guessing a certain portion of the clientele pays from "expense accounts". Tacko is the latest and greatest venture of Nick Fasanella. He's a good guy that got short-changed in a business deal secured only by handshake. There's an interview of him somewhere online, but that's a rabbit-hole - all you need to know is that this is his inspiring comeback. read more

A burger with French fries?!? These people are truly after my heart. The prices are really affordable for being in S.F. And the food is great. I only wish the place was a little bigger as all of the tables were full when we dined here. It was a little loud inside when we came, which was perfect as we brought the kids and their screams were not ruining anyone's meal. What's up with all these complaints about it being cash only? Instead of dragging down the rating of this tasty spot, how about you just open a free bank account from any of the number of banks who reimburse ATM fees and quit yer whining. There's an ATM on site if your wallet needs a refill. My rating is based on the food and service. The taco and chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful. The chips at the bottom of my basket were a little soggy but that's okay because the tomatoes were freshly diced for sure. Nick took my order this afternoon personally and he's a really friendly guy. Oh my Yelp stars this place is fantastic. I stuffed my pie hole with their chips and salsa until they were almost coming out of my ears and then of course I remembered that I had a burrito to eat. So I shoved the chips out of my sight and concentrated on my mission style burrito. I'm not sure if this even makes sense but this thing melted in my mouth. Sort of what you expect out of a place like this, food is good but not spectacular. Place isn't cheap but it's certainly not too expensive. Staff is always very friendly which is always a positive. Only thing stopping me from giving them a 5star review is that on separate occasion they messed up my Togo order. They are affiliated with taco shop@under dogs, nicks crispy tacos and formally with rouge, so it's the same menu. I feel like this is better quality and prep due to the open kitchen. I recommend the carnitas nicks way, for beginners. For the more adept, try the sopa de tortilla. And for the master foodie, get the lobster roll. Very friendly staff. Can get busy during dinner rush. I went in to Tacko for lunch today and it was as good has expected. I orders the chips and they were fresh and crunchy. The fish taco, Nick's Way was excellent. Full and tasty. I really like the self -service water machine. You can have your water with bubbles or no bubbles. I chose bubbles and it was perfect. I definitely will return. Today was my 3rd visit to Tacko. I loved the asada San Francisco buritto and I also wanted to try the cobb salad. It was awesome. This concierge will continue to send his guest to Tacko because of the food. I see alot of reviews complianing about the pricing, but I feel this is to be expected in the Marina District. This is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. They have the best chips and salsa that you can buy extra to go with your tacos or burritos or whatever you order. While I am certainly biased in that this place is so close to where I live, I have had my fair share of cheap mex fare and for the price, this can't be beat. The food comes fast and the lighting is a bit hard, now that I think about it, the lighting is too hard, I think some think-tank makes sure it is that way so you don't hunker down and stay too long, thereby freeing up the table for the next hapless soul, I have to agree with some others, I don't dig the $15 min. credit card thing and find that they have that case machines a little to convenient. Tacko is so so so good, definitely the best taco place in the area! All of their ingredients are super fresh and healthy(ish). I never feel like a bum after eating it. Best Mexican spot in the city! San Diego Burrito with steak is the best.

Had a bad experience at this place. The food was alright or even good, but the waiting staff was particularly rude. We visited this place at around 10.15 pm and the restaurant closes at 11pm. We had to wait for our food to arrive like forever which was a little frustrating already but then the waiter not only came to clean our table while we were eating and also took the plates away from which we were eating. When we tried to tell him that we are still having the food, he said that restaurant is closed and took away the plates anyway. I haven't had such a horrible experience anywhere else. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and humiliating. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy a good and peaceful meal. Also, the restaurant was super noisy and filled with people who are drunk and loud. Plus the flies. Would give this place a 0 star if I could because of how rude the waiting staff was. read more

Would actually give this place 3.5 stars because I would return if others wanted to go but I don't crave going back. Liked that it was clean and easy to just order at the counter. Pricing was okay. 10yr old son got the 3 street tacos with carnitas and liked them, but said they weren't anything spectacular, they fell apart and didn't feel like it was enough food (said he wanted another whole order). Said the chips were pretty good. I had the paleo guacamole (LOVED that they offered this option- thank you!). It was quite tasty and everyone at the table was asking for some of my veggies. Glad the veggies were obviously rinsed, but there was quite a puddle of water at the bottom of the basket so could have used a little more drying off. Beware - if you're not a fan of spice, I think these veggies are sprinkled with a little cayenne. Wine was fine. Would like to try the frescos if we go back. read more

Yum. Walking in SF, beautiful day, and really hungry. Walking up Fillmore, we noticed a very unassuming awning that listed tacos and lobster rolls.... this was intriguing. Went in, ordered one of all of their tacos, to share, and Loved them!!!! Fresh fresh pico de gallo, and the meats were delectable. Variety of agua Fresca's, beer. Relaxed. Did not try the lobster rolls, but there must be a back story on that. There are pictures of Nantucket on the walls. Would highly recommend if you like great casual Mexican food. read more

I have eaten here frequently but the last 3 to-go orders over the last few months were TOTALLY wrong when I got home. My bad for not checking before I left! One order was online and the other two orders were taken by a human at the register. Basically "no pico or guacamole on my tacos please". The bottom of my paper bag was leaking with the juice of the pico all over my car. Yes, the pico and guacamole that I said not to add. I had to throw the tacos out as they were soaking wet. I don't know if we have been really unlucky me and my boyfriend, but we both had sever food poisoning from this place. We both got a burrito with Carne asada and the taste was very good. But the pain I have found myself in 5 hours after eating from Tacko is just crazy. Not gonna give you the details but i have been suffering from food poisoning for 20hours now and so is my boyfriend. I guess their meat wasn't fresh or something like that. But what I can say is to be careful when you eat there and personally, even though the food was good I am never going back to the place. As much as I liked Kasa I'm so happy that it's been replaced by Tacko. It's the perfect post-bar meal and the self-serve water and salsa are fantastic. It is a bit hard to find seating at times but the carnitas tacos are worth the stress. (About $5/taco.) read more

Yummy yummy! One Saturday when the boyfriend and I were wandering around the Marina running some errands, we stumbled upon this place with empty stomachs. We quickly filled them up with a chicken quesadilla (me) and tacos (him). The quesadilla was probably one of the best I've ever had---the chicken actually really fresh tasting. Yeah, I know it's hard to screw up a quesadilla, but rarely does one actually wow me. Since we totally stuffed ourselves, I was glad to climb the hill back to my place afterward. First try. I had the lobster roll. It was quite good and I would get it again but be advised that it is not large. I also had the mahi taco and it had a very generous portion of well prepared mahi. The have a nice India pale ale on tap hurrah! The place can become a bit of a scene evenings which I think is fun, provided that you are in the mood.
