I have been to Tacko a few times and every time has been pretty good. Decent prices for the food. I recommend the carne asada and carnitas tacos. I'm still trying to figure out the pollo (chicken) taco. There is a thick gravy like sauce that does nothing other than gross me out and confuse me on what I'm eating. This was the first place I ate in San Francisco when I first moved here back in January, and I've been back five or six times since. No matter how crowded it gets, the food comes out quickly, and it is delicious!! The staff is friendly, the decor is fantastic (I'm an east coaster, reminds me of home..), and the food is out of this world. Any taco done Nick's Way is great, and try the San Diego burrito if you are starving! Why not a five? I agree with Martina regarding the "Tacky" credit card signs. They've dropped it to ten, but it is still a turn off. Once that goes away they'll get that five they deserve. Gas stations can get away with signs like that, cool taco shops in fun neighborhoods? A cool Nantucket-themed burrito spot. The food is tasty, although it might not be authentically Mexican. However, the San Francisco burrito is not to be missed. I also like that they're licensed, which makes it that much more enjoyable to hang out. read more

Had the California burrito with guacamole and I will say that I wasn't that impressed, the tortilla was really weird tasting and the meat tasted of seafood, maybe it was from the grill and them grilling seafood and the beef next to each other but I will say the proportion was right for the price, I will go back but I will get the tacos next time, I have tried them off my buddies plate and they were a lot better read more

I am adjusting my review I have tried tacko many times and it's not as bad as I thought it was it's actually pretty decent I think the San Francisco carne asada is pretty good especially when you use the red sauce on it hot sauce. But they also have the best seltzer carbonated water in town. And it comes with the burrito. Great read more

Just had a grilled fish taco nicks way and it was really mediocre. Sad cause I actually used to like this place. The fish had no seasoning and was overcooked. I tried my husbands tacos as well and they were all really bland. The oil that they used to fry the tortilla was also really old, leaving a bad aftertaste. I regretted giving a 15% tip, the service was terrible. They forgot to put in a ticket for our order, we waited almost 30 minutes for a taco while we watched others who came in after us get their food. Granted it was a busy Saturday night, but between poor service, marina bros and expensive tacos ... I think I'll pass next time. Second time going to Tacko for lunch. Really wanted to love this place but the disappointment of today's food will probably keep me from coming back. Got the Mexican tacos and elote. All the meat was pretty average. Chicken was the best. That doesn't say much though because the carnitas and carne asada were dry and flavorless. I didn't eat the carne asada since I didn't see the point. I filled up on chips and salsa, which were the best part of the meal. Red and green salsa are tasty. I don't like to much spice so they are my kind of salsa. Elote was fine. Probably better to eat in the restaurant though. Kinda feels like I flushed $15 down the drain. The decor of the place is lovely. I wish the food was too. read more

Love this place! They use fresh, quality ingredients and the portions are great. I love that each ingredient is well thought out and prepared. I'm a fan of their corn and black bean salad with steak. They also have tasty fresh house made salsa and a huge selection of bottled hot sauces available for use. Their staff is also awesome! Today I ordered take out and when I got home my order wasn't right. I called in and the staff was very helpful and went out of their way to fix it. They even went so far as to offer me extra sides for the trouble. Highly recommend! read more

Excellent good! My favorites are the fish tacos and carnitas quesadilla.

Really yummy food and high quality. I almost never eat meat but recently had a side of their pastured beef "carne asada". It was fabulous and cost a mere $6.50 for a whole bowl. Their lobster roll is better than at some other more famous seafood places like Woodhouse. The only reason i don't give this place five stars is that the noise level is often unbearable from screaming kids and/or packed house of loud customers. I'm happier getting take-out or at least remembering to bring earplugs. read more

If i had written this review the week that Tacko opened, it would most likely be one start lower since they were still working their kinks out. I decided to wait and give it another try since a lot of restaurants deal with these types of problems. Initially, I was pretty upset with the closing of Kasa since i live half a block away from the spot. When Tacko opened, we were pretty stoked. Everyone raves about the tacos, and don't get me wrong they are amazing, but i LOVE the quesadillas. I've had the carne asada one and the plain poco queso. Both times I had it done suiza style (on the side since i only like dipping it in the guac). They are a must try. Last week we went in on a Friday night. Unfortunately the line was still moving slower than i would prefer, but much faster than when they first opened. I think they need one extra person back there to bag the chips ect. While we were in line, Nick the owner started chatting with us(4 girls) and gave us a margarita pail, as well as a modelo for the one guy with us. He also then came and checked on our table while we were eating. The amazing food and service made up for a extra minutes we waited in line to order. If you are in the area, be sure to pop in. Tacko will definitely become a staple for my friends and I here in the neighborhood. read more

It was good. It is not a Mexican taco shop, it is an American taco shop. What I liked: the food was clean, and had familiar flavors. What I didn't like: they aren't very creative and don't allow substitutions. Also, they are cash only (at least for now). The only reason this places gets 4 stars is because it gets really expensive really fast. However, the food is fantastic! I could eat 4,000 baja tacos in one sitting. We ordered a the baja taco and a carne asada and chicken taco. All excellent. Not to mention the sandpail filled with margarita. Yummmm. read more

The food isn't bad....buuuut it's way too watery. The way they serve their chips and salsa is stupid, they put the salsa over the chips like its freaking nachos. My burrito had about a cup a water splooging out of it....awesome. Not to mention I had to ask for my chips and salsa after I received my watery burrito. Burrito is average. Pork had a lot of fat. One bite I ate was just a big chunk of fat without any meat. The place is very noisy and full of drunk people. I would not recommend. went back for a second time to give another try, will not make that mistake again. read more
