Not my favorite, but good. I always get the queso and chips with their spinach quesadillas and I've never been disappointed. I've been twice since I've moved to NM. The first time I purchased the set of dozen soft tacos.. they had breakfast in them.. ok.. salsa made them taste a million times better.. Second time I was on my way to work at 3am and stopped by.. asked for a meat burrito.. they must have scraped the bottom of the pan.. cause the juice leaked through the wrapper and bag and the wrapping of the burrito itself was pretty bad.. although the liquid did an awesome job of deteriorating the tortilla.. Customer service sucks at this location. You ask them what is in the Huevos Rancheros, and when you ask them what they just said, they cough up an attitude and ask if that is all I needed?! Horrible. I assumed that this side of town would be as good as the one on coors, I feel like a fool for even trying this store. The stars are a lie. There was some odd assortment of sausage in my bean and cheese burrito , it tasted weird and I didn't even finish three bites. My barbacoa burrito was a sloppily rolled bit of meat inside of a very large tortilla. That's it.. Just a bit of meat. Bull.. That isn't worth what I paid. The food has gone down hill since the remodel for some reason. I used to get the fajita tacos but they've changed their meat... Tastes fake and is super chewy. I could eat at Taco C probably 5 times a week and not get tired of it. My standard order: Two soft chicken tacos (ask for either EXTRA tomatoes or a side of them, as this can make the taco...they never include them if you don't ask). This has to be the best taco i've ever had. The tortilla's are soft, floury, the chicken is tender and juicy, and the explosion of flavor of all combined ingredients (cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes) makes this one amazing lunch, dinner, or late-night snack. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas and ate at the first Taca Cabana, which was a refurbished Dairy Queen that was open 24-hours. It was the hippie hang-out where you could get great Mexican food made by a family whose mom really knew how to cook! They made REAL gorditas and served everything on freshly-made corn tortillas. Even though I know today's Taco Cabana doesn't even come close to the quality of those days of quenching our munchies back in the 60s and 70s, they still serve some mean refritos and bean rolls and are decorated with great "azulejos" from Dolores Hidalgo - and yes, it is all still really bad for you but, then again, I am an old hippie and I figure if I can't eat what I like, why bother? read more

This place is just great. It's where you order what you want standing up and then take it to your table. The food is very good and very authentic Mexican fare. I no longer live in the neighborhood so I don't get over here much any more but I used to eat breakfast here all the time. This is the real deal, folks. Mexican food so fresh they have to catch it for you. Seriously, the lemonade is made with lemons and sugar the old fashioned way. None of your Minute Maid soda here. The also have watermelon and coconut. The tortillas... I am not sure why they are so good, except that they seem to have a gift for just-in-time tortilla-making. Chances are the tortilla around that comes with your food was made three minutes ago... ok, maybe ten. And the salsa bar.... I used to come in in the morning, order lemonade and a chicken fajita soft taco, then smother it with pico de gallo, salsa de fuego and green chili, top it off with cilantro, squeeze a couple of limes over the while thing and then eat it with a fork from the taco like a salad. Voila, a superb breakfast for about five dollars. Note: after I think midnight the dining room closes, but the drive-through is open all night. read more

Taco Cabana's biggest gripes are that there aren't enough of them. I occasionally stop in at this location and the food is consistently good as is the service. For people who love this sort of food, it's better to go inside than drive through but it's tasty either way. My one big issue with Taco Cabana is the MASSIVE amounts of sodium in the food. It kills the flavor and diminishes the experience. Why do they do it? It's so unnecessary. Lose the salt and everything soars...or next time I'll supply my own fresh cut limes to kill the salt! read more
