It's been a long time since I've written a Yelp review, but honestly, Taco Cabana needs some Yelp justice. The fact this location has 3 stars is horrifying to me / makes me lose faith in humanity. Taco cabana is always there for you, regardless of time of night or your state of consciousness. It also happens to have some of the best flour tortillas and chicken soft tacos in town. If you're writing a bad review about delivery, you're missing the point. TC has always been my culinary rock, and I hope it can be yours too. Got take out for the family. Ordered shrimp tacos and carne adovada. Put in for green and red chile and didn't get any containers. Not sure if it was in the tacos, but if it was I couldn't taste it. Heard great things about the tortillas, but they weren't anything special. Got a poor portion of guac with my plate. Shrimp were tiny and over cooked. Honestly I could've spent half at Taco Bell and been more satisfied. read more

We've stopped here each time, on our way to and from Santa Fe over the past ten years. Our first Taco Cabana, was in the Hill Country outside of San Antonio, TX. It was probably twenty years ago, before the advent of Chipotle. It was unique and served the same food as they do today. Fresh chickens spinning on the rotisserie, waiting to be cut up for that salad or burrito. But, a lot has changed over the years. As, I've mention Chipotle has gone national, and an interesting start up has gone private and has stayed regional. That's too bad, because this could have been an interesting competitor to that McDonald's Venture Capital investment that now seems everywhere. On our last trip, the meal ran us $20.37, taxes included. The food was really good, but that certain je ne sais quoi has been upstaged by the folks from Colorado. I've tried the other 3 locations in abq and they've all bn great but this one was really gross. The meat in the posole was mostly fat I picked it out and the soup has a weird smell. Won't go to this location again bummer ! I hope I don't get sick from this... read more

On a recent trip to Albuquerque, my friends brought me to this Taco Cabana for lunch. They noted the difference between the two open-kitchen locations and the newer restaurants which seemed more fast food than fresh food. The Prices were unbelievable and I couldn't believe how much food we got for the price. Am I just used to exorbitant prices on the east coast or is it just that cheap? Anyway, the food was really fresh and they make the horchata fresh, from scratch. It's delicious - one of my favorites! Looking forward to my next visit to ABQ for more Fresh-Mex! read more

I understand Covid has placed restrictions on us all. I understand that unexpected things will arise. What I don't understand is how's food business can possibly run out of food. That's simply a reflection of poor management. Further, waiting 15 minutes at the drive-thru, while rendering the thought of food to be fresh, doesn't explain how food can be cold when we get it home but living 6 minutes away. I don't understand how the tostadas can vary in toppings when they should have been all the same. Not only were the toppings different but when we opened the to go box, it looked as though there was a scuffle in the box causing the contents to be thrown about the container. The cheese enchilada....what can I say about that? It was cold, rubbery and tasted like the rear-end of a dead cat. The chicken fajita tasted like someone ran to Costco and bought processed chicken. Again, it was gritty, rubbery, and had a texture I could not identify. But fear not, the taco was good and warm! COVID has many businesses having to make adjustments but businesses need to be aware that when Covid is over, will previous customers return? read more

There refuted beans are nasty. Yuck! I had the chicken taco salad. Which is wonderful however they are now making their refried beans different. It taste like soap or some kind of cleaning solution is in the beans. Very gross. I called it to the managers attention and he could care less. read more

Usually super quick. It's been 10 mins since I thought it was taking long. It took almost 30 mins to get our meals, that's a long time for this location. They are generally much quicker. Ordered the carne adovada platter because that's what they had advertised and it looked good. It wasn't soft and tender like other carne adovada I've tried. Maybe it's just how they make it. To sum things up. I hadn't eaten all day and was starving. Otherwise I would not have eaten this. For starters, we said shredded chicken 3 times and they repeated it. Guess what I got...shredded beef. That can I over look. The tough part was to fight through eating the grease. The chips were over cooked and dripping. All that oil seperated the queso. The next problem was that there was a lot of fat. I really hope this is due to the current situation and things go back to normal after.5/8/20........So that was from the last time I ordered from here. I thought it was posted but found it when I came to leave nother review for today 6/25/20... Today was the last straw. I really used to love their nachos and wanted nachos today so I tried again. BIG mistake!! Container was half full, chips over cooked, queso was watered down. It was just runny. I said whatever just eat before it gets late. After a few bites I moved some chips around and found a big piece of plastic. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I have tried 2 locations and since April they have completely gone down hill. Not super happy. Went to taco cabana on wyoming tonight and they forgot my tacos. Drove back and my tacos with extra cheese that costs $2 extra when the tacos were only five was almost completely lacking any cheese at all. See my pic. Drove over seven miles in two trips to get bad tacos. Third time now this location has forgotten some thing on my order. Last time I had to go back for the queso with my large chips and queso and after a 10 min wait they told me "we are busy. There are other orders a head of you." When I asked if it was coming. I frequent this location and the San Mateo location and fully enjoy it every time. Often we go for breakfast, which is amazing by the way, or I like to get the flautas platter for dinner. Of course I really enjoy the salsa bar and love the breakfast tacos. My husband likes the gringo breakfast or the Fiesta breakfast I think it's called. The tortillas here are great, soft and pillow like. Which if you've read my other reviews...any food that resembles pillows is what gets me every time. I also really enjoy the bacon-y beans. The decor at both of the aforementioned locations is really nice. I like it. I think its hip. cool. I like to come inside rather than the drive thru, but will do the drive thru if I truly must get it togo. Otherwise, seating is ample and clean and you can pick what you want on the salsa bar which is of course a big perk. read more

My fiancé likes this place a lot. I want to start off talking about the decor. Although I have never sat In. To eat here I have came in for take away. It's very cute I love the little tiles it reminds me of Disney's "coco" it's very pleasant to be in here although I haven't seen the Loo so I do not know how clean it is. Next I want to talk about the staff. They are very friendly cute Mexican middle age women who are pleasant to talk to and I love seeing their smiles every time I go there. Now I want to tap about the food. I have a very high standard when it comes to food being European I have eating at very nice places so take that into account when you see this review. The food is delicious my favourite thing from here is the rotisserie chicken they make it fresh it's so lovely l. I love horchata and there's seems to be too sweet for me . Overall I would recommend eating here. It's cheap, and the food is good, the staff is very kind. I will be dining in soon and order something else I will check how clean the toilets are and have some horchata and ask them if they can make it less sweet then I will update my review. read more

Was waiting in the second line for literally 20 min. The 1st lane was going good so we jumped in the 1st lane. When we finally got to the speaker the lady on the mic said we couldn't be served. She said there was someone out taking the orders. Instead of making and exception and letting us order for the long wait we were told they couldn't take our order. Inexpensive and delicious. Perfect for a breakfast/dinner or a late night hangout with friends. My little cousin has always been a picky eater and the one thing he would eat growing up (besides creamsicle yogurt, pb without the j, cheese pizza, and mashed potatoes) was the bean and cheese burrito here. They have some delicious food. If you can go inside and order DO THAT. I almost never have issues ordering inside. Food is always fresh, hot, and delicious. Buuuuuut ordering through the drive thru is like ordering from a different restaurant. It's almost trippy. 98% of the time the orders are wrong and food is lukewarm or cool. Inside is probably faster too. I've been coming to Taco Cabana recently and it's just not very good each time I go. Their burritos are ok and sauces are pretty good, but the meal in all is just not enjoyable. Horrible experience due to BOTH Grub Hub and Taco Cabana. I ordered and waited and waited for the food. It never arrived. I called Grub Hub who said to call the restaurant. I did and they said the food had been picked up over an half an hour ago. They said they could remake and would call Grub Hub. I also called Grub Hub and found out that Taco Cabana uses its own drivers, not Grub Hub drivers. The consumer has no way of knowing this. While talking with them the Taco Cabana driver arrived and said he had been lost (now about 45 minutes). The food was cold, the drink was watered down. I told him I would not accept this. He left and then came right back and said his Taco Cabana supervisor told him they were within the 1 hour delivery window (this was FALSE and the original promised time span was not one hour). He then dumped the food and drinks on my patio. He was aggressive. I told him to leave (Grub Hub listened to all this over the phone). I told Grub Hub I am handicapped and can't clean this up and now I will have bugs being attracted. Grub Hub said they would call the restaurant, be sure they remake and redeliver the order, plus have them take the "old" food away. Then Grub Hub calls back and reported that the restaurant stated they cannot remake the order as they don't have any delivery drivers. Taco Cabana did not even have the courtesy to call me directly to apologize or explain why they could not fulfill the order. I requested a refund from Grub Hub! This NEVER should have happened. UPDATE: Heard from Customer Contact and they said management of this Taco Cabana would be in touch (it is a franchise). No one has ever contacted me and I have reached out twice! read more

This is a wonderful Mexican food restaurant. Everything is fresh and made to order. All of the dishes I have sampled have been superb! I can't single out any food item that are better than another. Everything is just excellent. In they summer they have Watermelon Aqua Fresca this is my most favorite summer time refreshment. Trust me you will love it too. read more

The rudest employees you'll ever meet. Sadly, my family and I have decided to end our relationship with Taco Cabana after several terrible experiences. The food was great - their customer service, however, was downright nasty. I called to tell them, after waiting in line for 30 minutes and returning home, that they had missed a few items on my order. I had to pull teeth to get a manager on the line. Finally, they asked if I could return and they would just remake my entire order. I return to sit in line for another 20 minutes. I get to the window and the cashier has nothing but an attitude towards me - waving my receipt at her manager like a child, irritated with me because they couldn't get my order right. I sit there for another 10-15 minutes while they prepare my order for a second time, cars are revving their engines and honking their horns as I am now holding up the line. Just a terrible experience. A few days pass, and I chalk it up to the pandemic - they're understaffed and overwhelmed...I tell myself to just let it go. Like an idiot, I return to buy some stew for my son and the cashier takes my credit card - doesn't swipe it, runs to the manager, says something to her about me, and comes back to run my card. The manager peeks her eyes below the order shelf to look at me. The cook from a few nights earlier comes to stare at me through the drive-through window too. I waived because I didn't know what else to do. I haven't been in high school for a while now, so I'm no longer used to dealing with gossips and bullies... I am still shocked by their blatant disrespect. They've messed up my order multiple times and somehow, no matter how nice and understanding I am, I was still the problem. Don't worry, you'll never have to see my face again. I'll be just as happy spending my money elsewhere. read more

First, I want to say, I eat at the Taco Cabana on Central and Eubank all the time and have never had a bad experience. Last night, my husband and I went to the store on Montgomery and Wyoming. We ordered at the drive thru, which was probably our first mistake. My husband got the combo fajitas, and I ordered the half chicken. We also asked for refried beans instead of the other beans for both orders. After waiting about 5 minutes, the lady handed me the bag and then just closed the window - no thank you or anything. We drove away without checking the order, which was our second mistake. When we got home, the "combo fajitas" were missing half the order. We had one little container with the chicken and the onions, and one little container with the guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. There were no peppers and the steak was completely missing. Also, instead of the requested refried beans, we had the bowl of "bean soup" or whatever they call it. As for the half chicken - one piece was so charred I couldn't even tear it apart, and the other piece was cold. ALL the chicken we received was dry and pretty tasteless. I will never go to this location again, even though it is much closer to my house than the Central/Eubank location - their service and food quality there is 1000 times better and completely worth the drive. read more

Ordered through Selflane for pickup, and though their website says they offer curbside, they asked us to come inside to get our food...where we saw plenty of staff standing around doing nothing. Not off to a good start, but I tried to keep an open mind given some of the good reviews of the food. We'd been told their tortillas were really good, which is why we wanted to try them out, but they were definitely nothing to write home about. The tortillas I buy at the store are fluffier and softer than these. I'm really not sure what I was expecting, but of everything we ordered (shrimp tacos, adovada tacos, and a beef burrito), I was just very underwhelmed to say the least. The guacamole was brown, the lettuce was wilted, the rice was hard, they gave me black beans instead of refried, and the tortillas were stiff. I honestly would have been much happier getting food from Taco Bell instead. I'm also super thirsty an hour later, so the food is clearly very salty and/or has tons of MSG. Hard pass. read more

I recently tried to describe to someone who wasn't from the Southwest how great Taco Cabana is. I told them about the amazing decor, the food, the aguas frescas, the fact that, at Taco Cabana, you can get a compete enchilada platter through a drive through window. Her response was "we have those in Washington. They're called Taco Bells" Needless to say, this woman didn't get it at all. Taco Cabana is the greatest "fast food" location EVER. I'm here at least once a week for lunch. Right now I'm stuck on the Taco Combo (2 tacos with the divine hot salsa, cilantro and chips and queso) and I don't see the end of this addiction. I love it when the salsa is hot enough to make me sweat. I've also had the quesadillas with guacamole. As an expert guacamole maker I approve 100% of TC's guac. I've had the enchilada platter that comes with refried beans made with bacon grease. Oh yeah. I've had bites of the pancakes and bacon and they're very good. I had the chiles rellenos platter and my husband had the lenguas platter! We both enjoyed our selections a lot. This isn't some high class joint -- the plates are disposable, you get your food yourself from the counter when they call your order number, etc, but the food was good (the frijoles had bacon in them?! so good) and it was quick and easy, because I only had a one hour lunch break at work. I'll definitely come here again, as it's right up the street. I was surprised that the food here is just as good as my friend Cristina's food (and she's a transplant from Mexico). Taco Cabana, in its pepto-bismol-pink glory, is one of my favorite places to eat. Especially because their food is fresh, flavorful, and available in the middle of the night. And, again, I must stress the importance of chile in hangover prevention. It's a must. Plus, it's just too damn tasty. Taco Cabana isn't fancy. In fact, I tend to order at the drive-thru and take it home to eat. But eating there isn't bad either. Somewhat like the Frontier system, you just have to wait for them to call your number. And eating there gives you the benefit of their salsa bar where you can mix and match salsas and other toppings to create your signature taste. That in itself is dinner amusement at its finest. Whether you choose to eat in or take it out, the food stands tall. Named for their tacos, Taco Cabana serves many different varieties, as well as other common New Mexican fare. I love pretty much anything with chile, so I've been happy with everything I've ever eaten there. I have been on an enchilada kick lately, but sometimes I just need a chicken soft taco. They make their mini tortillas fresh, so I always go for the soft tacos over crunchy. The tortillas are brimming with fresh chicken (or other meat of your choice), cheese, lettuce and tomato. That means that all food groups are covered- you have your grain, protein, dairy, vegetable and fruit (how sweet is that???). Another bonus is that they are dirt cheap. This means you can expand your waistline without depleting your wallet. And hey, if you're a cheap date, come here...at least the food will be quality and defy the price. Taco Cabana may look a bit tacky, but the food is delicious. And at 3 am, with only a $5 bill in your pocket, what more could you ask for? read more

There are only 2 Taco Cabana's you should go to in ABQ. This is one of them. The other is on San Mateo. The food is much better, authentic and the other locations all taste like fast food. The fajita taco combo is one of my favorite items along with the chicken quesadilla and chicken flauta plate. Their fresh tortillas are damnnn good. Currently I am on a Keto (low-carb) diet and this is one of my favorite places because i can get a plate of eggs with queso, guac, and their chicken all on one plate. Talk about amazing diet food. The only downside is i have to over pay in order to get my keto meal. The staff doesn't understand that i dont want tortillas, beans or rice... they just get confused when I ask for something different. Anyways, it's still delicious. read more

Terrible. Hard tortillas. Can't get the order right. Salsa tastes like a fruit smoothie...wtf? Bean burrito came busted open in the middle and had an electric burned smell. The carne asada was dry and cold. Both nights at around 2am now..no joke. Each complete meal with cost around $10 it seems. I've had good meals at the one off San Mateo late at night, but this one gives out garbage that nobody would eat. I'm going to go the extra distance to the San Mateo one. The most authentic manudo and lengua I've enjoyed in quite some time. The prices are stellar, the cuisine fresh and well prepared with superbly mingled profiles and adequate spice. Living in Boston makes locating excellent Mexican taste something of an impossibility, and will make it a conscious point to visit Taco Cabana during subsequent treks out west. Extremely delectable. My only complaint concerns the decor...the fast-casual diner aesthetic doesn't mesh ideally with the fine gastronomy offered here. In general, highly recommended for the knowing palate but not for the ambience. read more
