I don't know man. I guess I was spoiled growing up in San Antonio- home of Tex Mex. I haven't found a legit breakfast taco in Dallas yet. So disappointing. I like big chunks of potato, not these tiny bits that look like the kind you can get in the frozen potato section at Kroger. They didn't charge for the onion so I guess that's something. The clientele looks like the white, uppity SMU crowd so I guess it's no surprise that the food isn't that great. I ate it but will I be back? Nah. My Overall Rating - 3 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - It's busy during weekends, and you'll find a nice, friendly atmosphere. The menu is drawn in chalk on the board, and you line up to place your order. Plenty of seating, from traditional tables & booths and it's definitely family friendly. 1 Star. Service - The lines can be long but they move fast. There are plenty of menus that you can grab, or simply look up at the board. Our food came out fast and there were always staff around to help clear things. No issues here. 1 Star. Food - It's called Taco Joint for a reason, so naturally you should get the tacos. Plenty of choices from the menu, but I opted to a spicy chicken & pulled pork. Queso is good and always great to start the meal, but if I'm honest, my tacos were just ok. Both my tacos were a bit dry, but it may have been my selection. But as I was eating, I couldn't help think in the back of my mind of Torchy's menu. And I think I just like their menu better. So in a way Taco Joint was good, it just wasn't great. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Probably. Good quality at a good price so it's hard to stay away. I like Torchy's crazy "there are not really tacos" menu better, as well as Tacolicious "these are real, son" tacos. Sooo I finally tried the new TJ location. I like the space. It does not remind me of Sol's at all and has the original TJ feel. Good job, guys! After being on Yelp and hearing about the brisket tacos for almost 4 years to the date I FINALLY tried them. I see what you folks have been raving about. The brisket was great, and the slice of avocado was a nice touch. Of course I'm a fan of the jalapeno ranch and added that to the tacos. I got the platter, which came with rice and beans. It was cheap, and came out so fast I almost couldn't believe it. I had some of my friend's disaster queso and it was yum! I also love TJ's chips. They are perfect. The best part of the location is they sell booze. Washing down tacos with a Corona made for a perfect Saturday lunch! read more

This place has horrible food and sub par service. The food barely qualifies as mex anything. My salad was served with dry chicken they claimed to be fajita chicken and was missing the avocado. It was literally a pan with some bagged lettuce and tomatoes and a few tortilla strips. If it weren't for the delicious margarita I would've given them no stars. Worst food in Texas! read more

Great vibe indeed! This is the hot spot for the new club I've been running with! It's perfect for weekends after a run. Migas, tacos and mimosas oh my!! They have weekend specials for beverages and the breakfast tacos are mega cheap. I always substitute flour for the corn tortillas and they are quite tasty. They have a patio for when the weather is nice. It's pretty spacious inside if you'd like to bring friends. And it's also super close to White Rock Lake! Well when I say super close I mean pretty much running distance if you run. Anyways come check it out! There's a few other things in this area I'd like to try. But they have some of the tastiest breakfast tacos I've had in this area thus far. Get there early to secure a spot on weekends. read more

We go here a lot because we take our daughter for tacos after her dance class nextdoor. We have always loved the food and spicy ranch! The Preston center location is awesome and on-it. Unfortunately my husband and I have to always triple check our order at the Mockingbird location because it never fails they have forgotten something. When we get the food, it's usually very good but this is becoming constant. Also, I waited to review because I wasn't sure if it was a one time thing, but the lady taking orders on Sundays is horrible! So rude, blank stares at you, doesn't greet you or ask questions, doesn't say thank you or use any type of customer service skills.. does she hate her job? I'm so confused.. how has a manager not trained her in these things? Unpleasant ordering from her and half the time I'm pretty sure it's her fault our order is wrong because she hasn't input it correctly because it appears she truly doesn't care to be there. To counter this, the guys in the back handing out orders are always friendly and kind!! Not meaning to rag on this location but they need to lose their teenage angst cashier and triple check that orders are correct and they'll be on-par with their other locations in no time :) would be happy to do another updated review once some of these easy fixes have been made! read more

Let me start this review by saying I am a HUGE fan of the other Taco Joint locations on Peak St and in Preston Center. However, this location is just the epitome of how bad management can fail a good chain. The place smells terrible, its wet and moldy with the smell of a run down college bar. The staff is often rude and always testy. Today the lady at the checkout counter was clearly sick, she coughed in her hands moments before grabbing my food... But most importantly, their tacos are terrible! You can taste the leftover grill grease on each taco. Additionally, they use the bare minimum of meat they can possible use and on their breakfast tacos the egg to meat ratio should be illegal. Like 10:1 egg to meat. Disgusting and sad. read more

This rating is for the Inwood store. In a word: Ugh! Employees were very nice, but the food wasn't. The fish taco had no flavor, salsas no flavor, brisket taco was weirdly sweet and the longer you chewed the brisket the bigger it got. It's always a bad sign when that happens. Instead of shredding the brisket, the should thinly slice it or chop it. Shredding just gives you tough weirdness. Will go back and try a breakfast item. I call this "Meh-xican" food. The people and place are all good... but when the food hits your table, it becomes "meh." The food is like a fresher version of Taco Bell. The ground beef has almost no flavor. The Lester and the Brisket taco were disappointingly bland -- even with their sauces added. I keep telling myself that their queso is good (that's why I came here), but "The Disaster" had little flavor other than bites of raw jalapeños. The chips and tortillas are good. But everything in/on them is disappointing. This wouldn't bother me at one of the many cheap taco shops I passed to get here. But I spent about $15-16 before tip for just my meal... which is just not worth it. At least the iced tea was tasty. And the people really are nice who work here, and the music is good. Overall for a fast food style place it was really good. The staff was friendly, the food came out really fast. What I liked was when the hand buzzer they gave you went off to go pick up your food, they only gave you the food that was ready. That they would bring out the rest of food but it was ready. It's been several weeks since I was last at this location. At that time the area where you get drinks smelled like vomit. Well I was just there the other day and it still smells like vomit. On top of that I think the people who work here could careless about your business. The food is just above average and I have had a much better experience at the Peak location. Only trouble is that one is only open early to lunch time not dinner. We went here tonight for the first time since they've taken over the old Taco Del Sol place, and it was quite good. I had the Friday night fried fish taco special, and the fish was hot, moist, and crispy. The refried beans were delish, too, and had an interesting brick red color to them, whipped smooth. Jamie had an ala carte grilled fish taco and chicken chalupa, which she rated with 4 and 3 stars, respectively. The fish seemed to be the same as that used in the fried tacos. Happy hour margaritas were just strong enough, not too sweet, and a solid HH deal at $3 each. Unsweet tea tasted freshly brewed, crisp and refreshing. This time my order was completely wrong ordered brisket got chicken and bacon instead. Time before that called in an order went to pick it up and they had given it away to someone else had to wait an additional 30 minutes for my food to be remade. Then 2 months ago I placed in order online and they never received my order had to sit and wait for them to make my order another 30 minute wait. I got "The Big B" and it basically tasted like the Supreme at taco bell. Service was great, but they charged sit-down prices for a counter serve experience.
