Taco Joint is pretty legit. The restaurant is located on a strip mall. The parking lot looked packed, but the inside has plenty of room, so many tables were available on a Saturday night, which is not super common in that area. They serve the breakfast menu all day, so at that point I knew I liked this place. I ordered the chilaquiles and they were super delicious on a spicy green salsa, the way god intended them to be. The tortilla was nice and crunchy, they had cheese, onions a side of beans and potatoes, so basically all my favorite things in life. My husband had their beef and brisket tacos and he really liked them too. The bar had tons of people, we didn't drink, but we liked the fact that people who were drinking had a little wall between them and the restaurant, so they can have their privacy and our side was not as loud. Rare is the place that can satisfy all the palates in my family, and Taco Joint does it well! It has a huge menu of tacos, salads, burritos, enchiladas, breakfast foods (served all day I believe), all of which are great paired with an ice cold Dos Equis. I love several of the vegetarian taco selections, as well as the grilled fish taco. My son is a fan of the fried cod tacos. My daughter sticks with her regular fajita chicken and lettuce tacos. The beans and rice are fine. Two tacos is almost always enough. The majority of the tacos are served on soft tortillas, but I felt like I had to try the crispy tacos before I wrote a review. A taco place has to do the crispy taco right to get four stars in my book. While not the best on the menu (the beef could have been more seasoned) the fresh crispy shell was excellent. I had been to the Taco Joint on Peak Street so I was really happy that they opened this location, which is located on my way home. The restaurant is now situated where our favorite Mexican place used to be, Sol's, but they lost their lease over a huge increase in rent by the ownership management. Anyway, now that Taco Joint is here, all is well. I tried the grilled fish taco combo and it was excellent. It would have been a regular fish taco but the habanero ranch dressing really made the taco. It is spicy but so good. If I had to complain I would wish that the taco had more fish. That said, I would get it again. Comes with rice, beans, and a drink for $7.95. Not bad at all. I love everything about this place--the vibe, the ambiance, and the food. They also serve beer, so I guess there is a god after all. This place is way better than Fuzzy Taco which is across the street. For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone would ever go to Fuzzy, where they aspire to serve mediocre good. Now that Taco Joint is open I would expect their business to plummet. read more

Taco Joint game is STRONG! Do you like Tex Mex without gimmicks? Then you will love this place! My favorite is the half order bean and cheese nachos and a regular crunchy beef taco. It is authentic Tex Mex, no weird funky flavors like Taco Deli or Some of the other "trendy" taco places. Basic staples like tacos, burritos and flautas. I really like their avocado jalapeño ranch dressing. I wish they sold it by the bottle. I don't eat a lot of fast food and I'm pretty picky about it when I do. This place fills my craving for Texas style Mexican food when I am craving something naughty. I promise you two tacos will fill up even the heftiest appetites, they are very generous with the meat and cheese. Yummy place! HUGE breakfast tacos that are amazing! I got a couple to go on a random weekday and even after a 25 minute drive they were still warm and tasty. I had the sausage and the chorizo. Breakfast is good but tried the enchilada buffet with chili con Queso and it tasted like it was made last night. The sauce tasted like ravioli Chef Boyardee. Hmmm. Maybe I'm spoiled living in CA, but my burrito was just meh. I asked the staff what the best meat was, and they recommended the spicy pork so I went with that. Not only was the pork not spicy, it was dry and desiccated, and whoever wrapped up the butrito has never had instructions on wrapping burritos. Without exaggeration, the top third was cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, the middle third was the chunk of dried meat with NO OTHER FILLING, and the bottom third was again cheese, lettuce and tomato in a melted wad. I had a chicken quesadilla that had half old chicken half fresh cooked chicken that just wasn't that good in the first place. My friend had the enchiladas that were no better than the ones you get in elementary school cafeteria. The drinks are overpriced as well, had 1 corona for $5 on happy hour! Service was good. The queso was okay. These were the worst tacos we've ever had. We ordered the brisket, spicy pork and spicy fried chicken tacos. The brisket was sweet. Whose idea was it to make sweet brisket tacos? The spicy pork was blah and the spicy fried chicken taco was fresh, but boring. The margarita was sugar water. The atmosphere was okay, but there definitely wasn't a diverse crowd at this location. I feel like this place is overrated by the people who live in this area. My coworker is also a bartender here and had long been telling me to stop by and see how good it was. I don't know what the hell was wrong with me that I took so long to follow through, because it was gotdamn delicious! The migas breakfast tacos will cure all that ails you. They are the perfect hangover cure. Add some of their extra spicy salsa and jalapeno ranch, and you will be healed of all your ailments. I also had a chalupa and didn't really think a chalupa could be all that good or bad, since it's just a friggin chalupa, but it was delicious! Again, dressed up with their super yummy jalapeno ranch. They had a nice patio, a cute dining area, and a great little bar. My michelada was perfect and their cheap ass tequila is actually pretty damn smooth. They also have a painting of Willie Nelson with flying tacos surrounding him. I don't know what that means, but I like it. Taco Joint is one of those places that stuns me in its overrated popularity. I had heard people rave about it, so perhaps my expectations were high. I was expecting good tacos. I've been twice now, once for breakfast, once for dinner and both experiences were disappointing. Most recently when we were there for dinner- the tortillas my tacos were made with were completely unheated, clearly pulled out of a package, processed and tasteless. The "steak" was dry as can be, tough and sinewy. Just gross. We gave them a second chance thinking maybe we just had one bad experience and because they're down the street from our home. Two bad experiences, well, that's a pattern. We won't be back. Still shaking my head in perplexity, wondering why others seem so loyal to such mediocrity and blahness.
