Just a few words on a recent experience and customer service at TT. Our family has basically been quarantined since the COVID outbreak with an elderly and immune-compromised household members. Last weekend we committed to going out, to get outside to the beach and get some freedom. We order TT on the way into Morro Bay. When we arrived for curbside delivery, as you might expect it was busy! Friday evening, long line, staff were pressed, long story short, sone items were left off the order and we were bummed when we got to the beach to eat, but that's not the point of the review, the point is the response from Mel and her team. I called when we got home, they picked up the phone after hours, took all our information down, and made us whole. Mel then personally called the next day, confirmed the details, made sure everything was good, and it was just an incredible level of responsiveness. Finally I'll add that all staff were wearing masks, they only had two tables sat and nearly all business was pick up. Taco Temple was absolutely packed, and had people waiting outside by the time we finished our beyond rad lunch. While you're waiting for your MASSIVE burrito, or HUGE tacos, Taco Temple has bottomless free chips and salsa. Even free they're excellent. Stopped at Taco Temple on the drive up to San Fran. While your meal is being prepared, you can get your own chips and salsa at two different bar stands they have. The salsa flavors are really good so try to have a little bit of all of them. We ordered the street tacos, carne asada tacos, shrimp tacos, and calamari tacos. The street tacos and carne asada were both very average dishes that we could of done without. However, the shrimp and calamari tacos were tasty. Both the shrimp and calamari dishes had a mountain of seafood along with cabbages and other greens piled up on the tortilla for the tacos. Not sure it was worth it, but there had to be a reason why there was such a huge crowd that waited as patiently as us. Bus persons were quickly cleaning and turning tables as each party left. Once we did sit down it still took another ten minutes before the waitress got to us. So we ordered immediately. Portions are huge, so we knew to share. The carnitas plate was like none other. Tender, yet they get it crispy in the grill. Some of the best I've ever had. All served on a home plate sized mound of salad, guac, sour cream, and side of black beans and rice. I would come back for this dish alone. Calamari was served in the same manner. A heaping mound of fried o rings on the lettuce bed, with shoestring fries. Wow. Beef burrito was the size of my head. Sauce was similar to a spicy mole ranchero. We were at Taco Temple today for lunch. I was truly excited to return, as I hadn't been in years but remember it being excellent. I ordered the Alaskan Cod Tostada. When it arrived at the table, I was very excited: generous portion size, spot-on presentation, and the fish was grilled to perfection. But when I started to dig in, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The whole plate was lacking any flavor whatsoever. No sauce for the tostada, no spice on the fish, no dressing of any kind on the salad. I kept digging around hoping to find some flavor bomb, but nada. Nothing. Zilch. Now that I'm home and reviewing the menu again, it states "chipotle sauce.... and Temple dressing." It is small, the wait can be lengthy, once seated you may get be squeezed around a little table, it might be loud and service may be slow if crowded. Those are the drawbacks. The food is delicious. I want to give this 5 stars because i could eat their Fish Taco everyday. However, i have to give it 4 stars because there is a lack of consistency in the food and food quality. I order the same thing every time (fish taco with extra cabbage and light Chipotle sauce) and my husband always orders the carnitas burrito. Both of these options are so delicious when done right, but 50% of the time something is messed up in the order or on some occasions my husband had gotten really sick after eating the carnitas. Also important to note that we always get our food to go because the resturant is so loud and crowded it can be overwhelming so it makes it harder for us to get the order corrected once home. It is high time I adjust my previous review for taco temple. Truths still include that the portions are huge, it's fairly expensive, and the tres leches cake is fantastic. However, the food is definitely above 2 star rating, we came without having to wait on a Friday evening, and they accept credit card now. First, the self serve chips are slightly greasy, but warm and well seasoned with fantastic pico de gallo. Worth a trip for that alone. I'd get the horchata alongside it though, especially good but my taste has changed since only having hawaii mexican food to compare to. Let me reiterate that the dishes can be on the expensive side, but they are large and filling. The mango salsa alongside my scallop taco was the true star of the dish, and it was evident they use fresh mango. The scallops were cooked well but I feel I got a few grains of sand in them unfortunately. While it's nearly impossible to eat the tacos traditionally, they're piled high with fresh salad and the quality is outstanding. The best thing, the star of the place that you just leave room for is the tres leches cake. So moist, quite sweet (considering sharing a slice, seriously) and truly indulgent after what feels like a fresh, healthy meal. Show up early so you don't have to wait, but waiting isn't the biggest chore when there's free chips and salsa. read more

READ RECENT REVIEWS AFTER 2017 when the place got new owners! When I arrived on the Central Coast in 2009, this was one of the greatest local gems. I ate hear at least once a week and every time I had a friend or relative visit me, I brought them here as a Central Coast experience. So after almost 10 years of that, it has taken many return visits after the new owner to make the OFFICIAL STATEMENT: JUST AVERAGE :( What use to be a place with extraordinary carnitas - they are now soggy and stingy portioned. What use to be a place with prehistoric portions - they are now weighed and average. The service is still great, but that's only 1/3 of the reason I go to a restaurant. The new owners have seemingly forever removed bountiful portions, and outstanding food. As I sadly bid farewell to every returning, "Every Good Thing Comes To An End" really does apply to Taco Temple. read more

The hubby mixed them together to get the heat he likes. The asada tacos were fantastic! Nicely seasoned, not over done, nice and tender. We got the street taco special for only $9.95.
