The place here has very limited options, but starting with the salsa and chips, the house made salso is really good (look the picture), it has a different kind of taste to it and even the way it looks. I'd highly recommend to get more chips and salsa, the salsa is too good. For the main dish, we ordered combo tacos, which has a chicken, shrimp, beef tacos. Pick any four from the options they have. Went here last week, food was OK. Service was OK. We had never seen this employee mandate fee on any restaurant we had eaten. Upon asking our server to remove the fee, he went and got his manager for us, to which he agreed to remove the employee fee mandate. When he returned with the fee removed, he gave us the new bill with Gratuity added!! When questioned they couldn't give us a reason why. It seems like both the manager and server added the gratuity just to be petty. They didn't have it on the original bill as seen on the picture.Their food is ok at best. Soup was watered down. Stopped by this place for an early dinner after walking around and doing some shopping. The host at door was friendly and staff were prompt although it took them a few minutes to come and take more order initially but after that. Everything was great. I understand it's pricy and it's just tacos, but I enjoy it, I appreciate the Americanized and a bit Healthier version of tacos. I also love the vegetarian options including salads and bowls. The different salsa and hot sauces that come with the tacos are all good, my favorite is the yellow - probably habanero. Chips were perfect on this day. Service was efficient. I wasn't crazy about the seats outside being lower than the inside seats because with the window open, our eye level is to their bottom seats... maybe I'd keep the windows closed. Tacos: (4.5/5) I loved the Guajilllo braised beef and new Vampiro taco which had a great texture crunch to it. Very flavorful tacos but the sauces (which were said to be mild, medium, spicy) all didn't taste spicy at all and generally the same salsa flavor. It's not the most authentic Mexican food but if you're looking for some unique flavor combos give this place a try. All tacos are pretty generously loaded and they give you chips and salsa. Chicken tortilla soup w/egg: (5/5) Honestly I'm a sucker for tortilla soup- their recipe was really flavorful but also not authentic, the broth was more clear chicken broth than any other soup base. Had a flavorful spicy kick to it at the end which hit the spot on a cold SF day. Good attentive service, 30 min wait time for Friday dinner without a reservation. This is an amazing restaurant, I'm definitely coming back! Came here with a friend and we were immediately seated, and from then on taken care of by the lovely Skye. She was so kind, attentive, and helpful; honestly just an above-and-beyond person! The restaurant itself was super airy, with a light and easy atmosphere and fun decorations. We got drinks to start, and enjoyed them both immensely with the side of chips and salsa. The tacos themselves were pretty good, although I felt that the cod taco could have had a bit more sauce to up the flavor profile. Both meats were well-cooked, however, with beautiful presentation and enough heart to fill you up with just two tacos. Perhaps nothing represents the wave of change that has occupied San Francisco's Marina neighborhood more than the continued success of Tacolicious, which is based out of the city. Located on the corner of Chestnut and Avila Streets, this is just one of four locations of the Tacolicious franchise, two of which are located here in the city. What brought a party of five to this location on a Tuesday afternoon was the cravings of one in our party of some queso cheese dip and tortilla chips, and after doing my due diligence on my Yelp app, just what would pop up but Tacolicious. Finding parking in the Marina neighborhood is the biggest challenge of them all, as it's downright impossible on Chestnut Street, but metered parking is available on nearby Lombard Street. When we arrived at about 3 p.m. they were busy but not slammed with customers as they managed to sit our party of five at one of their high top tables. The regular menu at Tacolicious is broken up into sections including snacks, sides, tacos, taco especial, chupitos, sweet and breakfast tacos, which are only available on weekend mornings. We were hoping to take part in their Taco Tuesday promotion that they had on another menu, which for $22 they offered a build your own taco bar with seasoned ground beef, but our server told us that this meal option wasn't available until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays. Thankfully their Happy Hour menu was available and one member of our party made sure to order their Margarita de la Casa which had blanco tequila, lime juice and agave and sold at $9.50. I opted to order off of their Happy Hour menu with their MF Chicken Tacos, which were three crispy tacos topped with queso oaxaca, crema and shredded lettuce. Others in our party also liked the option of their Happy Hour chicken tacos and opted to order that same dish but with all of the toppings on the side so they could build their tacos right at our table. Others opted to order a single Baja-style Pacific Cod taco topped with cabbage and cumin crema with a side of rice-o-licious, which was served with mojo verde sauce. But to start our meal, we all opted to split their Chile Con Queso, which was their signature cheese dip and served with tortilla chips, which is also served complimentary with salsa. Our dishes were brought out in due time, as I liked their chicken tacos, which were a little on the dry side, but when topped with a little crema and lettuce made for three decent if somewhat small taco portions. Our meal was highlighted by our queso dip, which if this is a highlight of our meal, belies some issues that I have with their menu at Tacolicious, as they certainly are thinking outside the menu with regards to their menu as they have fillings from everything from pastrami to spicy shrimp. They do have some unique flavor combinations such as carne asada with pepper jack and habanero salsa. But sometimes less is more and with the tacos at Tacolicious that can certainly be the case. Service was a little rough the day we went, and the overhead music was really loud when we arrived and asked them multiple times to take care of it to no avail, they do charge a small service fee on top of the Healthy SF fee, which is a unique one to be charged. But would I return to Tacolicious again, I would say yes, especially with that Taco Tuesday deal hanging over my head. Here's to Tacolicious's continued success, as they continue to open locations beyond the city, and hopefully stay open in this competitive cantina arena for years to come! read more

Yummmm. Was craving Mexican and our friend and long time SF resident recommended Tacolicious. It was a beautiful day in the city so the outdoor seating looked packed but was surprised that they could seat us inside right away or wait only 15 minutes for a table outside. We had been walking around the city all day so we opted to sit inside at the bar. We started with a couple of cocktails - the poloma and a house margarita. Both were delicious. The chips and salsa were so tasty. We each ordered three tacos - tried the chicken, carnitas, chorizo and fish tacos. They also brought out three salsas. All delicious. Sadly we were very disappointed in both the service and the food at Tacolicious. Having walked by it many times, we finally gave it a shot. For starters, our waiter was very inattentive. After we told him we were ready to order, he disappeared for ten minutes. When I asked if there was any potential vegetarian add-on for the kale salad, he first asked if fish is vegetarian (a reasonable ask in some places but not in SF) and when I said it was not, he tersely said he couldn't do anything else (fish isn't listed on the menu as an add-on, so the possibility of some veggie option didn't seem unreasonable to imagine). More notably, the food itself was incredibly bland. There was no hint of the cumin vinaigrette and it was only worth eating after I dressed it up with some salt and salsa from my partner's taco condiment tray. Apparently, the tacos were similarly flavorless. To top it off, the soundtrack interfered with conversation. The location on Chestnut is a great spot, in the middle of the Marina and the space itself is high energy but the food was sort of a letdown. Tacos: we tried the chicken tinga, carnitas, and pork special, fried avocado, braised beef, and special pork shoulder. Carnitas were good, braised beef and pork special were fine; fried avocado and chicken tinga would skip altogether. The chicken was dry and the fried avocado I just didn't care for -too much fat on fat. The sauces they come with, the habanero in particular, tasty. Albacore tuna tostadas: nice smoky flavor but fish wasn't super fresh. Would skip The Paloma I had was also way too sweet for my tastes. I went to Tacolicious a couple of times when they were at the original location on Chestnut Street near Fillmore. It's an above average place in the Marina for Mexican food. The chips and salsa were delicious. For main dishes, we ordered four different tacos: Vampiro, which was spicy and delicious; spicy shrimp; carnitas, which was tender and flavorful; and the Baja style pacific cod which was pretty bland without the condiments. We also ordered Marina girl salads with shrimp. The salads were somewhat disappointing as they were a little dry and flavorless. The house Margaritas were decent and had good flavor. Love it here! The servers are always so friendly and service is normally very fast! It's nice to sit outside on sunny days, but it was raining so we opted for inside which was nice and heated. They have a great passionfruit marg that is spicy! My favorite drink to order. You can also order pitchers of any of their margs which is great for large groups. You get free table chips/salsa which is amazing. Their guacamole and queso are also sooo good. Great tacos, and the marina girl salad is always good too. We were tempted by the smell of the food and how lively it seemed and were able to immediately get a table for two even though it looked very busy. Now for the food: Starter: Albacore Tuna Tostada - *MUST GET* The waitress said this was the best thing on the entire menu and she was ABSOLUTELY right. The texture of the tostada, the flavor of the spread on it, and the sashimi-style tuna all worked together perfectly. This is honestly one of the best starters I've had in SF, period. My shorty used to live out here in the Marina and had mentioned Tacolicious a few times in the past. We stopped in on a Sunday for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by the offerings. She had the baja-style pacific cod, fried. It was very light, fluffy, and bursting with flavor. I had the vampiro (aka taco-tostada lovechild), baja-style pacific cod both fried and grilled, chicken tinga, and pastrami. They all were great but the vampiro and pastrami really stood out as my favorites. The staff was friendly too. We will definitely be back! read more
