Is it weird not to have tacos at Tacolicious? There are lots of other delicious items there that you can have a complete meal without having tacos. I love queso. I love queso so much I wish it was it's own food group. Queso isn't offered at many Mexican/Tex-Mex places around here, so I always order it when it's on the menu. Tacolicious' queso is surprisingly spicy...it really creeps up on you. The serving looks small but it is super filling given how dense it is. We also ordered guacamole to start...which was probably pretty aggressive; we could have just eaten guacamole and queso for lunch. Instead, we balanced our meal out with salads - I got the Marina Girl salad which was fairly filling for being vegetarian. Walking by the area for the day and wanted to get some grub. You can never go wrong with tacos, amirite haha I went around lunch time, good size crowd but most sat outside. I sat at the bar top and was greeted right away. Have me a bottle of water and ordered an IPA they had on draft. Since I was trying to walk around and eat at different places, I went with 2 tacos. And both were amazing. You can see and taste the quality of the freshly made tortilla. The braised beef was full of flavor and juicy. I celebrated my birthday here last night and had the absolute best time. The staff was incredibly accommodating and the manager, mason, was so flexible and allowed me to add people to reservation last minute. The food is delicious and cheap, and it's a great place for a bday celebration. The staff made me a mock tail for my birthday, and even played my favorite song for me when my friends brought a cake out. Overall, I could not recommend eating here enough. The staff is INCREDIBLE, the food and drinks were great, and this was one of the best experiences I've ever had hosting a birthday at a restaurant. With a nervous tic in my eye after buying a new computer at the Apple store, one word sprang to mind: Tequila. So into Tacolicious we went, a space that's better suited to a crowded Friday or Saturday night in the Marina; nearly empty on a Sunday evening, it has a neon and black '80s vibe that's neither sardonic nor retro. The food was okay, reservations for the ridiculous pricing especially for the sides that (either even-handedly or strangely) are all $7. $7 for a grilled ear of corn. Yes, it was artfully broken into 3 pieces and grilled with blackened bits and topped with a sprig of cilantro but it was still ..a single ear of corn. Keep in mind, this wasn't Mexican street corn, just an ear of grilled corn. $7 for a tiny bowl of black beans. It was billed "Black midnight beans" to make it sound special but it was 7-8 oz of black beans and no, I couldn't taste any oregano or garlic. That's a half can of beans. For $7. Tacos were pricy at (4) for $20. Small but with quality ingredients, each one was tasty and we ordered a mix: Pastrami, chicken, skirt steak and Baja style. It was $2 extra to upgrade to the steak and pastrami options. A tray of attractively plated sauces accompanied our tacos but no one explained what they were. Horchata was excellent with bits of undissolved cane sugar and delicious cinnamon. The margarita picante hit the spot and had just the right amount of heat. Service was sweet and apologetic especially about the overpriced sides but given its inflated pricing, I'd have to be pushed back in the door to Tacolicious. read more
