(Maybe more like 3.5 stars) Came here over the weekend with the bf b/c we were craving tacos...we always drive past this place, so we thought we'd try it out that day... Cash only fyi... Staff is friendly, but a tad bit slow considering the fact there wasn't many people there in the afternoon...it's okay though b/c they were nice... Our orders: -Complimentary chips and salsa--their red salsa, by far, is one of the spiciest salsas I've ever tasted...I couldn't handle it lol...that's just me though... -The bf ordered a huge burrito with al pastor meat...he killed the burrito of course haha...he said the burrito was good overall, but he should have stuck with getting the carne asada as recommended by other Yelpers... -I ordered four tacos ($2 each): 1 pollo, 1 al pastor, and 2 carne asada on corn tortilla...I should have held off on the salsa deng it...my mouth and throat were on fire by the time I finished my tacos...I had to order a horchata to neutralize it...which was good anyway b/c their horchata is good. Out of all the tacos, the carne asada was the best tasting...the pollo was too wet for me, it tasted okay, but I prefer grilled chicken...the al pastor was okay as well...it had that sweet/savory to it, but it wasn't my cup of tea... Overall dining experience was good, but if I were to crave tacos, this probably wouldn't be my place of choice. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the South Bay! Whenever my friends and I want delicious and authentic Mexican, we come here. Anything I ever had here was consistently good. Tacos and enchiladas recommended. Their salsa is spicy and addictive! You can't stop eating them, seriously try to stop, you won't be able to. The staff was friendly. However they got my order wrong. The food was terrible. It was like it was sitting out all day on the counter and then put in boxes for take out. Spent 89.00 for 10 people. Basically,.tacos/rice/beans and 3 super tacos. The cheese was like eating nothing. No taste at all. No pico de gallo, no cilantro. The super tacos were supposed to have beans, no beans. I get so disappointed when I eat sub-par Mexican food. It just slowly kills me inside. The only plus is that the employees are friendly. Burrito was oversized and split open forcing me to eat it with a fork and knife (which I really hate doing to a burrito). But before we even get there, I noticed signs around the register area that say chips are 3.00 for takeout orders and salsa is 25 cents per small cup. Wait whaaaaaaat? Maybe I'm a little spoiled with the taquerias up in SF but I never have to pay for chips. They try to get you to dine in their restaurant by offering free chips to those who choose to eat there. But if you get takeout, don't even think about complementary tortilla chips with your meal. My favorite taquerias have salsa bars. Like unlimited, good ol' spicy salsas with limes, pickled carrots, pico de gallo, and the orange salsa that's way too spicy but way too good to not burn your mouth for . How greedy for money do you have to be to charge a quarter for every small cup of salsa that I ask for? ON TOP of the $3 chip bag I just bought. Uh, no thanks. I'll go back to Pancho Villa in San Mateo or Taqueria Guadalajara in SF for my perfectly wrapped super burritos, complementary chips, and eat-until-you-breathe-fire salsas. read more

I had this for the first time in San Jose and I love the service!!! Food is pretty darn good but not the best that I've had which is why I give it a 4 star. I got carne asada tacos, wet burrito, and torta. Their carne asada are fresh and juicy. Their salsa has a strong spicy kick but it's so good, just enough kick to make you keep eating them. Their shakes are freshly blended which really made my meal. The strawberry shake has some cinnamon in it and it doesn't taste fatty at all. I would definitely come back. read more

When you first walk in you can feel it , as if you've arrived at the home of a close friend. The pork carnitas burritos are a nice size and extremely good. I recommend two red sauces one just won't do it. Let's not forget the combination dinner plates. So many choices so when you come here take your time to look over the menu very carefully... less you'll surely stare at a strangers plate whilst thinking " I should have ordered that"! I love this place. Nothing compares to it for me. The tacos are definitely the best. Carne asada. This is the go to place every time. The burrito is bigger than most places and pretty good! Parking definitely sucks. It's better to go at night when the plaza isn't packed with Asian people grocery shopping or finding parking to walk to the mall across the street . This is a really good spot. The food is VERY authentic. We only stopped in because we were looking for a store & got hungry after the football game. They had good ratings, so we thought we'd check them out. Ordered a burrito (a la carte) and it was HUGE! They weren't stingy with the ingredients either. Quite tasty & not too expensive, considering the area. The only thing is that they are a 'cash only' spot. Didn't see that until I got inside. Glad I had a few bucks on me. I got a lengua taco doritos (hard shell) and a carne asada super burrito this time. The taco came on a plate with knife and fork. I didn't understand why until I opened it and saw that it was overflowing with the lettuce and goodies. The lengua was super warm and went well with the taco (and as I thought, I like the crunchy tacos more). I forgot how big the super taco was (that or it got bigger). Halfway through I was regretting getting a taco too, but I managed to finish the burrito with its meaty, creamy goodness. The burrito still wasn't pippin' hot, but at least it was above room temperature and that's all my tummy cared about. The workers (especially the one that takes your order) are still super nice especially when I mispronounce things and ask them silly questions. read more

I moved from San Francisco, and if I ever wanted Mexican food there, it was Mission Street. After moving to San Jose, my co worker introduced me to this place. This is by far the best authentic Mexican food I have had. My husband and I are regulars here. The people there are very nice. We both don't speak Spanish but we sure do know our food. If you have tried this place,, you should. You won't regret it . The prices have increased a few months back but that does not stop us from going here. Clean and great quality. We usually have their breakfast burrito or the regular and super burritos. Today we are planning to try to something different:)) read more

This has been my go to place for Mexican food since they opened the doors 20 maybe 25 years ago. You will not find a better steak taco in San Jose . I ordered chicken flautas during my most recent visit. I was disappointed. The plate itself was a great size, great portions, rice beans and guac to accompany the flautas . But they lacked flavor . It tasted like they just boiled the chicken and fried the tortilla. I was not impressed. Will come back but will stick with the usual . Rice beans and a taco. read more

CASH ONLY. This site is location near lion market. The location has a small parking lot that's usually filled up from people who go to the supermarket in the plaza. Food wise It really is great. I always get the tacos here while my boyfriend always grabs the burritos. I get carne Assad while he gets the al pastor. Our orders were always filled with a generous portion of meat. Cashiers are nice when taking our order. Will keep coming back. read more

I've lived in LA for over 10 years now and I still crave the tacos here. When I come to visit San Jose I ALWAYS stop here, often more than once during a short trip. The carne asada is so perfect and juicy, I only ever eat those tacos when I come. Cash only, the plaza is always busy so I have to always be on guard while parking. read more

I love mexican food! I love their chips n salsa here. Fucking amazeballs!!! My girl n I come here often. Be prepared to sweat when you're in here cuz they don't have ac. They prop the back door open n have a couple fans running. Also be prepared to see drunk mexican guys eating in the back. Haha. When we went here this one time there was a drunk mexican guy sitting in the back. Probably had a few too many beers n he kept talking to this guy sitting next to him who clearly did not want to talk to him. He kept ignoring the guy but the guy kept on talking to him. The best little taqueria I've found in this area - which isn't *really* saying much since this place is located in the heart of Little Saigon... I work down the street and couldn't believe how long it took me to finally grab lunch at this place. Since my first encounter about 2 years ago, I've been back at least a dozen times. I've enjoyed several dishes, but my favorite is their Steak Milanesa. The steak is pounded extra thin, and pan fried quickly so it stays really tender but the bread crumbs are nice and crispy. All the combination and larger plates come with a small salad, which I really enjoy. The beans are *sometimes* a little thin. While the toastada salad is seriously huge and delicious, get the crema and guacamole on the side, otherwise you'll have salad soup in your fried tortilla bowl. Also, if dark meat chicken isn't your thing, don't order a chicken dish. They only use chicken thighs. Fortunately, the carne asada and carnitas are both juicy and tasty. And it's a cash only establishment, just FYI. read more

This place is great for late night eats. The plates are a bit pricey, but the portions are big so you get what you pay for. The people at the counter speak broken english so it helps to know a little bit of spanish or to know what you want. They have a panderia next door that makes a delicious tres leches cake if you are craving dessert. read more

I've had close to everything on the menu here and I'm continually impressed with the quality, taste and value at Tacos Autlense. The shrimp ceviche is delicious, fresh and is the perfect lunch time snack for those hot San Jose summer days. I love how it's served on a crunchy tostada with avocado slices and lemon wedge - the flavors all compliment each other. The breakfast burrito with chorizo, eggs, papas and rice is HUGE! Yes, it's a fantastic carb fest, but filling and tasty. Definitely worth the price because you could easily divide this burrito in half, eat one piece for breakfast and the other for lunch. The street style carne asada tacos are very flavorful and loaded with meat. You can actually separate the tortillas and make 2 tacos from the 1 taco. My only wish is for more cilantro and onions, but if you are a meat lover this taco if for you. Also I highly recommend the juego de naranja (orange juice) and the chicken soup if you have a nasty cold, sore throat, feel like crap because it will not only make you feel better but also put you in a better mood. My sweetie and I got burritos here last week: She, carne asada. Me, carnitas. We both had bad stomache aches within 2 hours. It wasn't pretty. I really like this place. I've been there for breakfast menudo (to help shake the cobwebs out) and this week, I had a great torta de pastor. The bread was fresh and the meat was sweet and tasted of cinnamon. T The sandwich was HUGE! The service was really good and the atmosphere was great. Best Mexican food in SJ hands down. When people ask me for authentic, delicious Mexican food, this is my go-to. Homemade, authentic, no pretenses or pomp, delicious, good prices. My family orders trays of fajitas for family events from here often and they never disappoint. Tacos, burritos, try the chiles rellenos! I've tried about half the menu with no regrets. Real--- authentic. Yes! Best in the world! It may not be in the best neighborhood so be ware ... But this place is so worth going. They're even open pretty late. They usually have a group of cops that eat here during the late late shift, so it makes me feel kind of safe when i get there late. I love there beef soft tacos. My husband normally gets the hardshell tacos with rice/beans. Other occassions he gets the enchiladas. All of there items are fantastic, you cant go wrong.
