Review based on last visit. I really love their fish tacos. The ceviche is worth trying but that's about it. I had their baja's burrito yesterday for lunch and it was very mediocre. I'm not sure what it was but after eating it, I felt very heavy and sick. It was way too much. Beans usually aren't the best here and the burrito was full of it. Shrimp had a weird texture/aftertaste and the fish was all soggy. Only reason I come back is for the tacos & ceviche. Another reason why I'm giving three stars is because the cashier was being pushy and rushing our order. I get that there was a line but it does not justify the hasty attitude. read more

I love the shrimp tacos here and especially the shrimp quesadilla. I frequent this place as it's very close to my house and very affordable. The food is very good and tasty and I really like the rice. The tacos are Ensenada style and I stopped going down there after all the Cartel stuff. This place is so stingy with their salsa. I asked them for 1 more salsa because I ordered 7 tacos and they denied me an extra salsa. They said I would have to speak to the manager lol. The food is really good, but i had to write this right now because it really upsets me about how stingy they are with the salsa they have behind the counter. I always have to ask them how many salsas come with my meal and they say "1", then i show them they didn't give me any, THEN they give me 1. This literally happened right now when i took my mom there for her 1st time. The lady said "we put your salsa in there". I showed her there was no salsa (as usual). Then she said "oh, it's already on your tacos". That's NOT WHAT I WANT, or meant and she knows that. So then she gave me a salsa. I asked for 4 more , she said it's .25 cents each. Cool, I paid her a $1. She gave me the salsa and my mom pointed out 3 of the 4 salsas were NOT EVEN A QUARTER of the way filled up!! I called her out on that . She says "that's how we fill them". That's NOT how you fill up a salsa container. If i PAY MONEY for extra salsa , you better NOT skimp me!! That's super shady. It's salsa NOT diamonds! Then one of the worker girls has the audacity to have an attitude with me and shoves 2 more filled salsas in my hand and says "here, now go". The other girl was trying to be nice saying "have a nice day , enjoy your meal". Damage is done . It just goes to show the integrity of this place. Next time , I'll call them out again on it if i have to. I wish the owner would read this and train his/her people on how to fill the salsa container properly. Best fish/shrimp burrito I've had thus far. I got the Baja burrito that has both fish and shrimp inside for $7 and it was dericious. Get the chilies they're free and tasty. Prices for everything else are cheap. They have fish taco Wednesday except on Ash Wednesday when you can get fish tacos for 99 cents each. If I lived closer I'd be there a lot more but since they're inland Whittier and far from most of freeways it's a trek getting out there. They have horchata which is always a plus. read more

A REAL Mexican restaurant will bring you a caddy with 3 or 4 salsas and some limes if eating there or have a salsa bar for takeout. The baja taco is the best fish taco I've ever had!!! I went to this place because I had a mean craving for tacos and I saw that LAWeekly had named it one of the top taco places in LA. I would have to agree. If you like seafood and mexican food then you absolutely need to make a stop here!! One thing that I didn't like from Taco's Baja was the shrimp quesadilla. It was extremely greasy. I mean it is mexican food. I knew that I was going to get greasy food, but the quesadilla seriously needed to be served in a cup rather than a plate. I love this place! It's easy to find due to the fact that it's on a major street, there's parking in the back, and the wait time wasn't crazy. So I've been coming this place for a while now.. I know it pretty well. First of all... if I had to recommend anything, it would be the Baja taco, which is served on a flour tortilla and has shrimp and fish. It's absolutely fantastic. They are pretty big, I usually get 2 or if I'm feeling crazy 3. Also the combination plates are fairly priced and are very delicious and also comes with a drink! Another delicious and semi healthy option is the combo ceviche. It's also pretty feeing and is pretty fire. Of course and there's always the Wednesday $1 fish tacos. I maybe been once, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're fully prepared to wait... I'm not down with haha. Sometimes it takes a while to get your food in general... Used to be my "go to" spot as I have reviewed this location in this past and gave it a good review. Not sure what's happened in the last couple of months but today's visit was unacceptable. As soon as i walked in i couldn't help but notice how unkept this place was. What really caught my attention was that I must have counted at least a dozen flies at the front counter. Kinda ridiculous. The employees know what to expect every Wednesday with the long lines and impatient customers. I know as a frequent customer, that they must deal with a lot of bs on these days so I try to be as patient and accommodating as possible to the usually nice people working. We just moved into the area and I finally got to try the tacos from here, and boy was I impressed! I had the fried fish tacos and the fried shrimp tacos and a small order of the ceviche. The tacos are AMAZING and fresh and delicious! They weren't too fried, they were just right. And all of the toppings were fresh and delicious. The ceviche was very tasty and did not taste too fishy. Horrible, the other Tacos Baja location on 16032 Whittier blvd actually makes some of the best fish tacos in SoCal. Wife and I went there because our preferred location closed 2 hours early when we drove from Santa Ana looking forward to our favorite spot it was 6p and workers were closing up early, they said that it was really slow so they decided to close up early, two hours before the stated 8p closing time on Sunday and were told the one off of Painter was open. When we got there and ordered 8 fish tacos I was a bit shocked that within 5 minutes our order was ready. When we placed order we asked for 4 of them without cabbage and 4 light cabbage. We had to take our food to the other location to eat as they do not have dining indoors or outdoors set up. When we opened the first container of 4, the tacos had only fish and white sauce without pico do gallo, WTF! we asked for no cabbage and they didn't include pico de gallo as well. My wife was not pleased to say the least. Also, our tacos tasted like they were sitting under a heat lamp since they opened, the tortillas were stale and saturated with oil. fish was too oily and soggy with not a hint of crunch, pico de gallo on the other 4 tacos was bland and the red sauce they put on did not go well with the tacos and tasted like it was expired. Also, the yellow peppers had no bite and were soggy and saturated in that same horrid red sauce as the tacos, not too mention our agua de Jamaica tasted like it was made with burnt hibiscus and too sweet, was not good. We ended up throwing out most our food and left very let down and upset and later our stomachs equally upset. We will never go back to that location ever again and feel that they should either change their name as it doesn't live up to the name that the other location does or get out of town. We have been customers of Tacos Baja since they opened, the original location and this location although not as good, was never this bad. Seems they have gotten worse through the years. read more

I was in there for the first time yesterday for the $1.00 fish tacos and they were great for a buck. However I question on how clean the workers are and this is why, a customer asked the worker while the worker was prepping avocados and other food items I assume he was making guacamole anyhow he reached back hot the key hanging on the wall behind him and continued working with food. I told the manner what just occurred and she went and told him what I said he immediately went over to the hand washing sink rinsed his hands in a micro second and back to work. Washing your hands takes steps 1. Rinse 2. SOAP ( missing step ) 3. Lather and scrub for 15 seconds ( also step missing ) 4. Rinse 5. Dry hands using a single use towel ( step also missing ) In my opinion the manager should have discarded the food that was contaminated and made him really really WASH HIS HANDS. Love Love these tacos! I've had the burritos, most of the ceviche items, the sopes, the quesadillas! All delicious ( !) The line for fish taco Wednesday is long but worth the small wait. They are only $1! I will usually make my way to this restaurant around noon to 1, for my lunch break. My co-workers and I enjoy the chiles and limes on the side. They are spicy and a little salty with some lemon it's a perfect compliment to the food! What I love about this place is that its good and fast and I don't feel like I used up my whole break waiting in line for food.
