Tacos El Rey is fantastic! We were craving tacos on a Sunday afternoon/evening and who is there to save the day. Why who else but Tacos El Rey! I know cheesy but man was it true. We were hungry and didn't want to cook lunch/dinner. More towards dinner though. Anyways, I was hamgry! Yes and they were open so we went to grab some tacos and burritos. This place did not disappoint. The food is tasty and well seasoned. The meats for the tacos and burritos were cooked well. I was also presently surprised by the bill. For all that we ordered it was under $30. I really like that this place is easy on the wallet. There wasn't a long line to wait to order and they got our order correct. Parking here can be a hassle if it is during lunch and dinner time. So just be on the look out for that. They also have goat soup that is pretty good. I order some and man it was good. I am glad we have a place like this in Reno that serves good goat soup. I really appreciate that. A little diversity in the pallet is really nice. Also the goat is not that gamey either. If you have never had goat soup or had never had goat, you should really try it. So for the tacos we ordered we got steak and lengua (tongue). They were both delicious. Thus far I am very pleased with Tacos El Rey. It's a quintessential "little whole in the wall" although it's actually bigger than you first realize. It's got an old feel that could use a few tweaks and a bit of polish but somehow still works. The staff have been top shelf the entire way. Friendly, professional, bi-lingual with an easy to understand fluency describes every interaction. Parking is a bit tight but workable. The food has been dynamite. Breakfast burrito with ham and egg was my first sampling, followed by tacos of the al pastor, verde and asada varieties have all been scrumptious. Honestly I came here for the food and it was mediocre. Cocktails are delicious! although the service is terrible. The girl at the counter was rude asf! You can tell she has an attitude by the way she responds, her service is just terrible to the max. She forgot to take my order after i told her twice! It is no overstatement when I say that Tacos El Rey has bewitched me, irrevocably, body and soul. As much as I love a nice sit-down, farm-to-table dining experience, I also can think of no better way to spend a Sunday night than curled up on my couch watching reruns and eating a boatload of tacos. And given my way, I will choose Tacos El Rey every single time. To start, I love their corn tortillas. I know that seems like the least important part of the taco, but let me tell you why it's not: most places have dry, thick corn tortillas, and when they're stacked together, it just becomes a tasteless, metamorphic blob. Tacos El Rey does not have this problem - their corn tortillas are soft, thin, and have a slight sweetness. They're 100% worth it. In terms of the filling, I almost always choose the al pastor. I dream of their al pastor - it's crispy and has sweetness from the pineapple. (I have also had the pollo and carne asada, which are both delicious!) They put a generous amount in each taco, so you'll never have the problem of getting to the end, and it's just tortilla, salsa, and onions. As I mentioned above, I almost always do takeout, but occasionally I will stay and eat. While Sutro is my regular location, I have also been to their other two locations (Mae Anne and S. Virginia), and they are always clean and cozy. The staff is friendly, and the service is fast. All-in-all, Tacos El Rey is definitely my go-to when it comes to quick Mexican food in Reno. They packed our tacos in foil so by the time it took us to get home. about 15 minutes later, the tacos were drenched and it wasnt packed correctly so all the meat was all over the other tacos. and it was a gloppy mess. The tripa was really good. The desabrada was good. The pastor not good. The carne asada (which we thought we ordered) never got to the bag. Instead they gave us all pastor. it wasnt good. The lengua was really good. Next time, we plan to eat there. because as we were waiting 25 minutes for our order, the plates passing by us looked really good. Nice toasty tortillas. Unlike our togo order. The carne asade torta was nasty. I didnt like it. So plain. Basically meat and bread. They couldve added some lettuce and tomatoes or avocado and fresh onions or something! Had been coming here for years and it was always delicious, however I went there a few days ago and the food dramatically changed. I ordered a tostada de camarón and the tostada was smothered exaggeratedly with Mayo it should be called a tostada de mayonesa instead of camarón . The tacos were not how I remember them. I don't know if they changed cooks or what. Also the cashiers seem like they had no idea what they were doing. I just hope they can improve their food and service to what it once was. There is both an option to dine in or take out and during lunch time there was a minimal wait time (10 min max) Food: I personally love Mexican food aand I will definitely be coming back here for another visit. Ordered the carne asada plate and it was good! My only comment is the serving is smaller than Faustos/Robertos in LV for just about the same price. I like being able to split my meals or share it but this time, there just wasnt enough to save for later. Anyway, the place is big enough to accomodate about 40-50 people, maybe more. Looked small from the outside but once you're inside, it isnt. Cashier was polite and servers were nice. One came and checked up on us several times to see how we were doing with our food. Three taco's. Got a couple of my favorites, plus one meat I haven't had since St. Kitt's. 1. Goat Birria. Was good, reminded me of roast beef. Was not gamie, but moist, tender and flavorful. 2. Lengua. Tender, flavorful as well. 3. Chili Verde. Two words. THE BOMB. Pork was oh so tender and appeared to be finished like carnitas with just the right amount of crunch with the on the tender chunks of pork. All were served with the requisite onion, cilantro, radish and a little salsa verde (tomatillo i think). Plus a little bowl of spicier chile de arbol sauce on the side. I found a go to place for street tacos in Reno. Tacos El Rey has three locations, i tried the Sutro location. Ordered three tacos Al pastor , lengua and cabeza I will try the chile verde, babacoa and birria the next time. I would definitely order the lengua and cabeza again, the al pastor didn't float my boat it was a little dry and they used a lot of pepper flakes which doesn't work for me, they're like little time bombs in your stomach , i had to pick them out with a toothpick. I have heard so many people mention to me how much they love Taco El Ray. I work just down the street and a couple of coworkers and I decided to give them a try today. Extremely pleased! I loved them. I got the carnitas tacos and they got the carne asada tacos and pollo (chicken) tacos. They said the pollo (chicken) were good but the carne asada were AMAZING!!!! My Carnitas tacos were fantastic!! And very tender. We also got an order of guacamole to share and the first thing I noticed when I opened the container was the pickled jalapeños added to the guacamole. Interesting rendition. After my first bite I fell in love!!! How did I never think of that before? It was delicious! The menu in the wall listed the different meat selections they have and I saw not only the traditional choices including beef tongue which is one of my favorites but also goat meat, beef head and pork stomach. I'm Not exactly sure what to expect with those. Since I am a strong believer in always trying before ever judging something, I will definitely have to give those a try soon. I went here once and I had heard good things about this restaurant, so a friend invited me to go with her sinces she had also been wanting to go there, now this happened back in 2014. So we both ordered 2 tacos, but she also wanted a menudo. I got me a pozole. While waiting they brought us some salsa and chips, we waited about 5-7 Minutes for the tacos to arrive. We began eating and our first bite was just pure salt, now let me tell you all; I completely understand we all have different tastebuds, and I wasn't alone on this one I usually don't like a lot of salt on my food , however my friend in the other hand she likes salty foods. When I tell you she told me what did I just bite into? She tried the tortilla by its self and, she said the tortillas are fine, she then tries the meat and boy she then calls the girl who took our order and tells her, this is just too salty like try it, she said oh no, I'm truly sorry I'll get you a fresh new tacos, she had brought us the Menudo & the pozole. We took a sip same damn thing pure salt it tasted as if the dumped a whole bag worth of 10lbs of salt. I don't know for others it might taste delicious but for us it was completely something we could just not enjoy the salt was just really over powdering the meal. We then get our new tacos and when I tell you I felt bad I try to chug that taco down it was still just very overpowering with salt like that meat was basically just sitting and marinating in salt. But when he saw my face he then takes a sip of his menudo my mom as well they where like WOAH! This has way too much salt, I knew that it wasn't just me it's their food. While I found this little place next to my office, I instantly got excited for carne asada tacos with cilantro and onions. Tacos El Rey has great staff, a large space if you're dining in, but the food just takes a really long time. Can't give 5 stars because I'm spoiled from living in SoCal, but this place is a pretty good contender. I ordered 4 tacos: carne asada, el pastor, lengua, carnitas. Lengua was the best, hands down. Horchata was amazing. The location was kinda shady which was evident by the caged windows and doors of ALL the businesses in that complex. I came in around closing at 8pm. I came here with my dad on a Sunday afternoon and the place was PACKED. It took us a while to find a clean table to sit at. A tip: Before coming here, make sure you know how to count to 100 in Spanish; the staff calls out the order numbers in Spanish. That I didn't mind so much - made the place feel more authentic. Now on to the food. My dad had a goat meat burrito and I had a carnitas taco plate. My tacos arrived a full 20 minutes after the burrito. Neither of us were impressed. Everything was relatively bland, even with the radish slices on the tacos. The salsa was flavorless and barely spicy at all. The rice was nicely flavored, but nothing special. Inexpensive Guadalajaran-style Mexican food in a slightly shabby (but clean and inviting) space. The natural comparison is to Beto's. I like Beto's but I liked this place slightly more. I prefer the tacos here, although I can't quite put my finger on the reason why. I enjoyed the other stuff I tried, too, like the ceviche and the fried tilapia. No breading, just a whole fried fish. It wasn't the moistest fish I've ever had, but it tasted great and it was strangely satisfying to nibble the last bits of flesh from the bones. If I had to find fault, I'd complain that the horchata is too sweet, but that's like complaining habanero peppers are too hot. read more

My brother in law is always telling me to try this place. Well after a couple of years of his talking this place up I remembered in time and tried it out today. Gus, my sister and I went. It is not a neighborhood I frequent and in passing it looks much smaller than the actual restaurant is. The decor is pretty much what I expected and found it acceptable along with being clean. The young man taking the orders who by the way is quite handsome was soft spoken and polite. The young lady who delivered the food too was very nice looking and polite. I would say their demeanor edges on the sweet. The prices are very good, cheap even. The food was very much like the food I find when in Mexico. I enjoyed it and since we each ordered something different I know better what I would order the next time around. It all had a lot of flavour and differing textures. Also, we frequent the Mae Anne location so it was a great excuse to give this one a try! Again, everything was fantastic, spot on delicious. We got an assortment of tacos, guacamole and chips, bi steak ranchero and an enchilada. Personally for myself this location surpased the location at Mae Ann. Mind you, not by much as they are so similar but everything was just excellent. I also noticed this location has a few items that do not appear on the menu up at the Mae Ann location which surprised me. Also, just like the other location the prices are great.
