Oh this place was amazing. I stumbled upon this as I am too bored now to eat at all the other Indian good places in Fremont. This place is amazing. It is fairly new. Runs in the same store as Sur Sangeet. I was little hesitant so did a quick yelp check on it. Went inside and was greeted with a very warm and friendly smile from Jwala (the owner). They have a wide selection of food items (check out the menu pics I posted) I opted for the Goat Curry (comes with Naan or Rice) and Aloo and Gobi Parathas to-go. Amazing food. Great taste. Excellent portions. I am a big fan on this place and this will be my only Indian food eating spot in Fremont for the next few months. Came here to pick up some dinner after the lame stomach bug plagued my SO and we had to cancel our special dinner plans. Was really glad to have stopped by Taj-e Chaat for my meal! On the outskirts of a strip plaza, Taj-e Chaat stands out with bright lights and Indian music blasting out the speakers. The SO and I walked in and the DVD corner immediately caught our eyes. They sell DVDs! (Most likely non-English tho...) Anyway, it was a Thursday night and the place was busy! The kitchen was visible from where we stood and it looked like they were on full-speed! I ordered: Butter chicken Spicy chicken wings Butter naan Soft roti Mango lassi We waited probably 15-20 minutes for my food, which meant they cooked my food to order. Once I got my food, I could feel the heat emanating through the plastic bag.. I was so excited to eat! The cashier was super cute and nice also! She made sure I wasn't panicking because I didn't get my food in under 5 minutes. I definitely was not panicking, but I really appreciated the fact that she would provide follow-up. "You smart. You loyal. I appreciate that," as DJ Khaled would say. Once home, I immediately dug open my bag to pull out all my food treasures... butter chicken had a kick to it along with plenty of large still-juicy chicken pieces, chicken wings were tandoori-style and came with a green mint sauce, naan was soft and fluffy, roti was soft and chewy, and the mango lassi really should have been bigger for the price - it was so delicious though! In the end, I didn't even finish everything and still had enough for lunch the next day. Delighted with the Pani Puri here, though I'm still in the search for the authentic street-style gol gappas with a large vat of tangy spicy water where you can dunk your crunchy balls in found on the streets of India. A very ordinary looking place with an extra extra extra AWESOME food. Their spicy chicken naan roles are excellent!( the only thing they are not spicy at all) The naan in the roll is not dried at all like other desi restaurants but is soft, juicy and moist .It is stuffed w juicy , moist and more than enough chicken with enough sauce. I like my food a little saltier than others and I requested extra salt but the roll was so tasty that by the time salt came it was more than half gone. It was that good! Also tried their CHOLA BHATORA today. It again topped all we had in the last 20 yrs. Never had Bhaturas like these before! They were thicker than all we ever had . We always thought that Bhaturas was 'a thicker puri' but I know now what Bhaturas is. I am planning to take the rest of the family there VERY SOON! read more

I came here on a Thursday night with two friends, and I ordered a lamb boti wrap. The flavor was really good, and the serving was pretty big! It wasn't spicy enough though. The lamb was tender, although I think the pieces would have been better smaller. My major complaint was that it was VERY VERY oily. The naan (the outside of the wrap) was pretty good, but I think they put butter on it. The naan was basically soaked with oil, and I felt sort of repulsed by it. There was oil dripping out from the aluminum too. The cucumbers were nice. I would give the wrap 3.5 stars - the lamb was tender, the portions were big, and the flavor was great, but the oil really got to me. If there wasn't so much oil, the wrap would be 5 stars. I also tasted the mix chaat. I've never had a chaat before, so I'm not sure how this one compares to others. It was good though! There were potatoes, some fried stuff, and a bunch of different sauces on top. I also tasted my friend's garlic naan (although 2 hours after he ordered it). The naan was very chewy and very garlicky; it was delicious! It was a bit buttery though I think. But good! I also tried my friend's tandoori chicken. It was SO GOOD. The flavor is amazing, and the chicken is chewy and perfectly cooked. Yum. The mix chaat, the garlic naan, and the tandoori chicken are all 4-stars status. The service was also pretty good. We paid first, so they didn't really have to do service I think. Anyway, she was really nice, and she automatically gave us extra plates for the chaat. She gave us a water pitcher and kept refilling it for us. She also gave my friend some green sauce to go with his tandoori chicken! Service 4 stars. I'm not sure whether I would come back again. Today was the second time I had lunch at this place. I have tried the egg biryani, samosa chaat and the tandoori mix grill. All are very good. The tandoori mix grill comes sizzling to your table. It's a small place with a seating space of probably 25 people. But the food is amazing. Their tawa rotis are the best. It's the same size as a regular plate and not very thick. It Felt like homemade rotis and butter made them even better. I had these rotis with Bhindi Masala and Kadai Chicken. Make sure to mention spicy if you like your food spicy as the curries are not very spicy by default. Both of the curries tasted amazing. Totally amazing. In addition, you can also see the kitchen and it's pretty clean, so there's nothing to worry about in that front too. read more

Taj-e chaat is a very unassuming place with great food. I would highly recommend that you get your food to go and eat it at home or at another venue. It's also best to call ahead of time to place your order so you can bypass any random delays or wait times which do tend to happen around peak hours. So my go to dishes here are the aloo naan, aloo paratha, and the mix chaat. The aloo paratha usually comes with a side of raita which is pretty great as a dipping sauce if you aren't really in the mood for any of the curries. The mix chaat has a broken down samosa, mint and tamarind chutney, yogurt, channa (aka garbanzos), and aloo tikki. It is super flavorful with a good mix of sweet, salty, and spicy tones. I've also had the saag paneer which is good, but a biiit on the bland side. It tastes good with a just a bit more salt or even a mix of the mint chutney. read more

Paneer paratha Sucks big time :( it is rubbery like anything. I have tried mixed chat, palak paneer and samosas and chole bature which taste fairly good. We are a group of 5 that have had a love hate relationship with this place. We used to come a lot to this place last year, when a friend of ours used to stay in an apartment nearby. Generally I always opt for the veggie plate while my group tries out curries and other options like lamb wrap and tandoori chicken. We used to like the mango lassi too. Somewhere in the second half of last year the quality of the food started decreasing at an accelerated pace. The seasoning started becoming bland, he lassi had too much of water and the meat started tasting old. We stopped going to the place for more that 6 months. Last weekend we were in the vicinity and decided to see if things were still bad. Lucky for us, the quality had improved. In the veggie plate, the naan was soft and warm. The daal had good seasoning. The tandoori chicken plate was plentiful and the lamb wrap was tasty. The lassi is still too watery and tastes very synthetic though. You could give it a try. We just came here to get the wraps, one paneer tikka and one chicken tikka for the 4 of us. The wraps are thick baturas and not the chappati ones. They were literally heavy. The taste was great and we loved it but extremely oily and not for the calorie conscious. We even got 1 samosa just to taste. We were just looking for a hearty meal and that's exactly what this place offered us. One has to order at the counter and pay for the order after which the food will be served at the table. There are hardly three to four tables here. It's a rather small place, very apt for quick meals or takeout food. This place is clearly not intended for those looking for a fancy Indian restaurant. We ordered the Veggie plate and Vegetable Biryani. The Veggie plate came with fried rice, aloo peas masala, naan and dal makhani on the side. The portion size here is large, a little more than what a single person can eat. The food quality was really high and all the items tasted excellent. The biryani came with raitha on the side. Service was prompt. It's almost an open kitchen here in the sense that it is not completely closed. There is also a small library in one corner of this restaurant. $24 for my dinner last night was so worth it here. We were looking to have Indian food for dinner last night, and wanted to try something new, so we stopped by Taj-e Chaat to pick up our phone order to-go. After arriving, I am so glad we ordered to go. Half of the store looks like a dvd rental store and there were only a handful of tables, quite small. I think I would only get to-go if I ate here. We called in our order maybe 5 mins before we arrived and waited about 5 mins when we arrived to get our food- not bad at all. The plain naan here is super fluffy and decently thick- perfect in my opinion. The garlic naan however, was very garlicy and a little too much to go with my curries. Delicious on its own, but again too flavorful for dipping. What I would highly recommend is the butter chicken. Seriously, one of the better ones I've had in a long time. The chicken curry on the other hand, did not have many pieces of chicken in there and the flavor was good, but not worth raving about. With the $24, we also got a side of rice as well - small order. I did notice the extra overcharged compared to store menu; however, people need to understand, we are in the pandemic!!! If you can't support them, move on, don't be cheap! For god sake, they are only charging $11.35 instead of $10.99 for kabob plate, $6.70 instead of $6.49. Do you know how much it costs to change the menu board? Does it worth it to change as of every business is struggling to survive? Plus everything is Togo nowadays, it costs business more for to go boxes, for silverware besides of cleaning supplies, sanitizers, gloves, masks to keep the place safety standards. Plus, they are only charging 9% of tax when it's supposed to be 9.25%. I don't understand how people aren't understanding and feeling for nowadays business. This is my new favorite Indian place in Fremont!!! Because I just moved here, I've been trying out a lot of different places. It's so fun (and kind of crazy) just how many options there are locally. But this one is definitely my favorite so far. It's nothing fancy, but food is good and service is quick. I always order on the phone and pick up and have never waited more than five minutes. But that's just really the cherry on top because the food is what I really care about. In the past I haven't branched out much when it comes to Indian food. I typically get chicken tikki masala and lamb curry and call it a day. Sometimes garlic naan. But seeing the pictures of the mixed chaat made me want to try it last week. Holyyyy crap it was like my mouth had died and gone to heaven. I'm not entirely sure what's in it, but it tastes like crushed samosas and potatoes with sauce on top. It's literally probably my favorite Indian thing I've ever eaten. I absolutely cannot wait to come back and try more things off the menu. I know I won't be disappointed. Totally bad experience, the person at the counter could have behaved better at a customer who just bit a rotten egg pakora. Egg pakora - the eggs were spoiled and smelling bad. Chilli pakora - too salty to consume. When called and complained, we were said that the counter person had a bite and it tastes good. Also he asked to bring the egg pakora and chilli pakora back to the store so he will know we were not playing games. when we went back with the items literally with remaining pieces of the rotten egg, the guy did not respond properly and got into arguments with us. We cancelled the order and got refund. As long as the product is good you're fine, but won't recommend this place due to this experience. read more
