I am really surprised how this place managed to secure 4 stars so far. Went there on a Saturday afternoon and ate dahi chaat, chola bhatura and gobi parantha. The first two were uneatable. Chola bhatura was cooked in a very smelly oil and tasted rotten. Dahi chaat did not have oil but sour curd. Gobi parantha was eatable but nothing good about it. If one can ignore the ambiance (this place has a hole in the wall feel and look to it) and rate only on the quality of the food this place would get 5 stars. The food is cooked fresh and the portions are plentiful. On the taste scale alone these guys get a+++. The prices are very reasonable too. I would highly encourage others to patronize this place as these kind of places don't survive too long if they don't get enough traction after opening. I would keep going back for more !!!! Excellent Indian eatery! I came around 3:30 PM, so it wasn't too crowded. The staff at the front is very helpful and courteous, and quickly took my order. I ordered the chole batura and samosa chaat. Except Egg Pakora (or Pakoda a we call it), all other stuff I tried was not worth it. Believe me, if you are from SI (south India), better look out of another restaurant than giving this a try. Chicken Biryani was not a biryani at all. The rice was half cooked and it didnt taste like a biryani at all. Chilli chicken tasted like gobi manchuri except that instead of gobi, chicken was used. What a waste of time and money. Papdi chat was Ok but too sweet to call it a chat. Jaggery dominated the taste. Well well well! Such awesome taste and that too walkable distance. Indeed sometimes one is sitting on a pot of gold and begging!!! We tried the aloo paratha which was literally melting in our mouths. Have you ever felt your insides burn? The food here made my friends and I hurt inside. I usually love spicy food but this was a little nuts. The food was a bit overly seasoned with spices. Every bite I took made my insides hurt but the food was good. The lamb curry was very good. I wasn't sure how it was going to sit with my stomach because I had lamb before and that did not turn out well. But this time, it was delicious. On the spicy end though. The paneer tikka masala was very delicious. They did not skimp on the paneer. I felt so full after eating that. This was also spicy. My overall experience here was a bit hurtful. My tongue was on fire. My chest was on fire. It was a bit uncomfortable and they don't give you ice water. It's just room temperature water... This is the first place I think of, if I decide to go for dinner around 10pm. Open till 11pm. (This is how I came across this place, for the very first time). Awesome food for the price. I will never come back here. The teenager behind the counter who was taking our order made a mistake on the order. No apology. Fine. But the food does not taste that exceptional either that bad service can be overlooked. Not worth the money. There was no dal or even enough gravy to eat the nans that he threw on our table. The service by this teenage boy was pretty much rude. When we peeked inside the people cooking in the kitchen looked like really good people and we do not want our review to affect them. Food is generally fine. But they serve the most horrendous tea charges at 1.25. Other places serve tea complimentary that is a 100 times better. When I told the guy at the counter that it's the worst tea ever - he actually said that other people live by it. As if am lying... Never having tea here. Welp, say hello to one of the weirdest restaurants I've ever been to. Seems like it's half restaurant/half video rental store. Does that make sense to you? Nope, didn't think so. The food itself was pretty decent. Lamb curry tasted exactly how it should have. Not spicy at all, and pretty flavorful. It was my favorite dish out of it all. We also got the Paneer Tikka Masala. This one was pretty A-OK to me, especially considering that I don't even like tikka masala styled curries much. We also got a biryani dish and it was so overly spicy that my friend had to order a lassi drink just to cool himself down. Portion size on the naan was so tiny though. We ordered two naan's, and they disappeared so fast. I had to ration myself otherwise I would have eaten more than my share! Another huge negative is that the place just smelled so bad. Like, it smelled like an armpit after a marathon. Also, the water situation is meh here. They just leave the water out in the open on the tables and it's all just room temperature. Pardon my for being high class about my water, but a few ice cubes wouldn't hurt. Probably won't be back. Especially with so much other Indian spots in the area! read more

Did not know this place existed until a few hours ago. A bunch of friends were getting together tonight and one of them asked me to pick up an order he made here. Now im really glad i did. We got a bunch of the garlic naan bread, so good. The bread was moist, soft, and full of flavor. Ive had some great naan bread before, but this stuff was good. We also got an order of the butter chicken, soooo good. The tandoori chicken... sooooo good. And the lamb curry, which i didnt have a chance to try since it was gone so fast. I guess it was good? Where to begin...if I could give 0 stars I would! Horrendously slow service, mediocre food and a total disaster is the best description of my meal there. Went there excited to try some Chaats which you would think they would do well given its in their name but no. After almost 40 minutes of waiting for the papdi chaat and samosa chaats, both items that i would expect are easy and quick to put together, the papdi chaat was too sweet and the samosa chaat was too spicy. We also got the aloo paratha and a mango lassi and had to take the paratha to go as it took just too long. Yes, even the mango lassi came out after 50 mins. I'll give them another shot before I move on, but they need to step up the game and dish out consistent meals. Since moving to Fremont I have been searching for the perfect Chaat place. Chaat is my favorite type of Indian food and I am picky about it. Unfortunately this place did not meet my standards. I ordered the samosa plate and Papdi chaat. The samosas were ok but no better than what I can buy frozen at Bharat Bazar. The Papdi Chaat was not at all good. The portion was tiny. The potatoes had no flavor (they were just chopped boiled potatoes). The papdi (deep fried bread) was overfried and they had made no attempt to drain some of the oil. Chaat is supposed to explode with flavor in your mouth mixing the sour of tamarind, the spice of chili, the cooling of yogurt, and the other various spices that adorn the potatoes and other ingredients. This papdi chaat sunk like a heavy anchor. The restaurant itself is not very fancy. It felt a bit cramped. Their other food options may be ok but with a name like "Taj-e-Chaat" (Taj meaning crown) the Chaat should be amazing. read more

We visited this restaurant for dinner after our mission peak hike. I would say that this is a very good restaurant, the food was very tasty and the price was very less, as compared to the restaurants I visit near Belmont and other places in the north. I was pretty amazed about the taste of the food since it was very close to the indian restaurants back in India. I felt it carried that authenticity, or, err, we might have been very hungry after that hike :P What we ordered: Papdi chat and Mix chat.Garlic naan, Malai Koftha and Panner tikka masala. Mix chat was truly a mix of other chats - it had some samosa pieces, some potatoes, channa etc and this was my favorite. Chats were pretty cheap - $4-$6 per chat. Came in on a Tuesday night with no customers in the restaurant. Restaurant smelled great and the reviews were good so I ordered the lamb boti wrap for to go at 9:28pm. Since it was a wrap, I thought it would take only 5-10 minutes and be out of there real quick. Boy was I wrong. I did not get my order until 9:50pm and it almost seemed like my order was about to go to another customer who walked in later until the employees caught my eyes. Chicken tikka is a famous dish all over India...Traditionally it is made in tandoor oven,the taste is great here , The main thing you should remember is the marination of the chicken... They marinated over night so the flavour went deep into the chicken...they made Chicken tikka masala with this and served it with rice...I will post it tomorrow... Perhaps the region in India of this particular restaurant is different than the other ones? ....I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of this place. What I ordered - Mixed Veggies Curry, Samosa Chaat, Tandoori Roti. First impression: WAY TOO MUCH POTATOES. I asked for mixed veggies, and what actually came consisted of 60% potatoes, 35% carrots, 2% canned beans, 1% onions and 2% of something else. VERY LITTLE curry sauce, dry, looked like a dry stir fry of potatoes and carrots. The Chaat had good flavors. However, I understand that samosas are supposed to be filled with a lot of potatoes, but their samosas seemed like it had potatoes ONLY. I felt 5 lbs fatter because of how much potatoes I consumed.
