For my 4th of July LA Staycation, I stayed just 1/2 a mile from this restaurant and figured Eh, what the heck - I'll give it a shot. I wish I hadn't. The service here left MUCH to be desired, the server was just plain rude, even going as far as to insult a young girl who was playing on her phone while we waited for drinks. She threw napkins on our table when we asked for extra and took nearly an eternity to bring us our bill. I ordered the french toast breakfast which consisted of practically burnt fried eggs, way over cooked french toast slices and very dry sausage patties. Here's what's great about Tallyrand: 1) Anything on the menu containing their fresh roasted turkey 2) The totally odd, but also sweet and sincere waitstaff 3) Full bar! Have a martini with your turkey melt. I won't deduct any points for what's not great about Tallyrand: 1) Many menu items are mediocre. I had to do it, y'all. When any brunch place in LA can claim they have been open for 50+ years in the same location -- my jaw DROPS. (You know they're getting rid of the House of Blues this year to make way for high rises?) (Care to argue that Burbank is not LA? Shut your face.) The history of Tallyrand is the following: in 1959 a married couple opened a coffee shop on Olive on a $5,000 investment. Today, that coffee shop has expanded to a large 3-room restaurant, a lunch counter, a dedicated parking lot, a large patio for outdoor seating (dogs are welcome) and of course a full menu with a full bar. The original owners' kids run the joint and are clearly doing their parents proud. All brunch prices are reasonable circa 2008, meaning by 2015 you're feeling good about your $6 breakfast! I split an order of the pancakes and the Popeye breakfast burrito. Our hyper waitress barely made us wait for the food, she blitzed around that restaurant like the roadrunner delivering plates and filling coffee mugs. My New Years resolution was to get off coffee so I've become one of those pretentious tea drinkers, needing a whole army to serve a carafe of hot water, a lemon, a honey packet, an assortment of tea bags, etc. Nevertheless my tea cup overfloweth with the prompt delivery and all around affordable deliciousness at Tallyrand. And those southern accents made this little southern peach's heart swell with pride. Come at lunch, and ask for the Huell Howser special (turkey sandwich smothered in cheese). But avoid days his show gets rerun on TV, it'll get crowded in there. read more

For my 200th Yelp review I had to pick a favorite and Tallyrand in Burbank is just the place. Love the atmosphere, the bar and the food and drink. It's like something out of the '50s and I love it. The architecture , the interior design, make this a comfort eating and drinking destination. Hope it's around another 60 years as a Burbank institution. read more

A very rude waitress took my order. I went in around 6:45 am on Tuesday 12/18 to pick up an order for a coworker. Another coworker informed me that they wanted breakfast from this place so I waited until I saw a waitress that was available. The waitress who rang me up was a brunette, middle aged who had clearly just clocked in. It was my first time here and only came in to pickup a coworker's order. I asked the brunette waitress if I can place an order. She said "didn't you just pay for an order" in a rude tone. I said yes but wanted to place another. She seemed very annoyed. Yes I'm young and was in a diner known for elderly hang out. But please respect your customers. They blond waitress was nice but will not go in because of the brunette waitress. Been coming here for years. It's always been pretty good food. Service, however, can be hit and miss. We like it enough.

This is one of those places responsible for this desire I have to live out my later years in Burbank, or better yet, Toluca Lake. I can't wait to be retired and coming to Tallrand for brunch and early dinners. I have been eating here for as long as I can think back, and while it's changed (looking at you garlic bread) a bit through the years, I have never had a bad time here. I once was drinking in the bar with a friend talking to a very pregnant women who was due "at any moment" when the power in that section of Burbank went out. It was a fun experience! All of the customers and staff just kind of hung out and told stories for the duration of it - temporary BFFs. The food here is perfect for what it is, family diner fare, and that's a good thing considering it's a food type that's can easily go from edible to disgusting. Prices are pretty standard, but the service is almost always top-notch. Although I give it an overall 4/5, the bar and the bartender, a really fantastic lady, gets a 5/5. This was my first time at this iconic restaraunt. Upon arriving we were greeted immediately, encouraged to look at the specials board, and seated. We got our drinks quickly and asked our waitresses about any specials for the night. We made our selections, with 2 of the 4 members of our party choosing the salmon on special. Food arrived promptly, an tastes delicious. Everyone was satisfied - until the bill came. During our meal, they changed their specials board to reflect their dinner prices. We were told this was customary for them to do every evening at 5. However we arrived at 6:30 and apparently were viewing lunch pricing. Our bill did not reflect the advertised price, but rather their dinner price. Our waitress didn't offer to check with the manager, so we did. The manager argued with us! She stated that we should have known that the dinner price would have been more. However - it was our 1st time there and no where on the board did it state lunch specials. They eventually refunded us the difference, but they loose MAJOR points for their lack of professionalism. When all was said and done, we're talking about less than $7 difference. It's not about the money as much as how the situation was handeled. They admitted openly that they were late in changing the pricing and never did the host or waitress inform us otherwise - which also tells me they probably weren't even aware of their own pricing. Good food, fun place to go - but I greatly dislike such rude customer service. Left a bad taste in my mouth. With so many other similar choices in Burbank, with better integrity, I don't know that I'll be returning. read more

I've lived in Burbank for over 30 years and have always enjoyed and supported the local area diners. Sadly, Tallyrand is another one to scratch off my tasty diner food list. The scalllops and shrimp dinner was not even edible. They must have taken old frozen scallops and plunged them in 3 day old grease and fried them to cover up the rubber tasting scallops. The mashed potatoes were not even close to warm. And, the soup.... raw broccoli floating in watered down broth which was cold. I'm not even that picky and would settle for ok being it's a diner. This restaurant along with Coral Cafe has the worst food and service. Our waiter didn't even ask if everything was ok after seeing both plates not even touched. If I could get away with no stars I would. We walked into the restaurant. The hostess was sitting behind the register, actually I should say she was lounging behind the register. We use to go there regularly, when we lived in Burbank. And we know the owner/lounging hostess. Well she greeted us with "where ever you like" and that was fine since it did say on the sign. Please seat yourself. We seated ourselves. And the lounging hostess did not offer us menus, or any kind of beverage. We waited as the one server was running her behind off serving her tables, and telling the table next to us she will be right with them. After she took the neighboring tables order my husband asked politely "excuse me. Could we have menus please??" The server proceeded to mumble something to the affect, and mind you this is what I heard "oh here (giving us the neighboring table theirs) this is not my table she will be with you." And this was after 10 mins of no acknowledgement of us being there. And the server that we THINK was ours was having a conversation with some other customer and not acknowledging us what so ever. So after another 5 mins or so of no one coming to our table asking if we would at least liking something to drink, and our server STILL having a conversation with the other customer. We got up and left. With no one even asking if there was a problem. Needless to say we will NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!!! And never recommend it to anyone ever again. read more

Came here for a low-key birthday dinner. 1. Service so bad - I had the waiter removed from my table. 2. Food so good, I must return! More on both topics. First off - another party that sat down after we were seated had a bread basket promptly delivered to their table. When I asked our server (Pablo I think?) he remarked that the bread is extra or comes when an entree is ordered. Immediately felt that we were being treated differently - obviously not in a good way. I even said, we should not be treated differently - and he remarked indifferently. After he walked away - I asked the next server to please intervene and takeover our table. I ordered the Turkey Dinner - and wow. I have had LOTS of diner turkey dinners. You name the problem and I have experienced it. None of them appeared on my plate. The gravy was hot and delicious - the turkey tasted fresh, the stuffing and mashed potatoes all were hot and tasted like it was freshly prepared. Mom had the Beef Dip - no tasteless au jus dip here - the dip was fantastic! If only for the awful server this would have been a great experience. Well I guess I will start with the good news... As you may have noticed in other reviews this place is typical diner fare so I would not advise you expect much more than that. I will say they use excellent chicken and turkey in their sandwiches and found them better than most cuts used in diner fare. The garlic bread is good as well. The food generally was fresh tasting. Okay now on to the bad and the ugly part. I have been here a few times before and the staff had been reasonably nice and I do remember someone I assumed was either the owner or family of the owner to be really nice to the customers. However some of the staff have quite the opposite disposition. The server I had on my last visit (keyword LAST) was less than polite she was downright rude and for absolutely no reason. She made it clear she was not going to even acknowledge us and make us feel as unwelcome as possible. No she wasnt "just busy" she went out of her way to be rude. The bartender in the lounge seemed to be polite to people, although I did not sit at the bar and did not have a drink so I cannot comment on his bar tending skills. If you want a quality turkey or chicken sandwich and can give the server her attitude right back or not care about quality of service then give this place a try. Note to the owner. I know you have been in business for many years but there are an ever increasing selection of places to eat around Burbank. Service is an important part of keeping a business flourishing, for your sake and your customers who seem to be dedicated I would recommend asking your staff to be more considerate of this in the future. The Tallyrand was a great experience. The atmosohere was one of casual but you can bring a date. Great place to watch a Dodger game. But that food tho. Oh my god. My firt act was to order a pair of Prickly Pear Martinis. They were great. We later ordered our main courses of Beef liver and Onion with homemade mashed potatoes and Turkey sandwich on Sourdough bread with gravy and dressing with Cranberry. The meals were waaay larger than we expected. They were also flavourful so no need to ask for condiments. Each piece of liver melted in my mouth and was delicious. The turkey sandwich came soaked in gravy. All seasoned perfectly. We also noticed some people eating the Fried chicken here which I found to be a big hit. Their Omlets are huge and also flavourful. I also got Beef stew as a side; huge chunks of beef and potatoes and veggies too. The Tallyrand's meals are a good value for the money. I met a lot of 25 year veterans to the place. I hope to be one from now on. The staff has been there for 18 yrs and its family owned. Come early tho as parking gets scarce quick. read more

I'm writing this review right after I returned home from eating because we were so upset with the waitress that has no right having the wait in front of the word waitress HER NAME WAS CLAUDIA she should never ever be employed in the customer service business. She has no personality, no smile when she came to the table never said hello. She walked up and said "what can I get you" while staring down at her order pad, than went to turn away before we were done ordering. On top of that asked what kind of bread we wanted on our chicken club and we asked for wheat but we got white when the order came she walked away so fast that we didn't notice till she was gone and that couldn't find her so we just ate it. And when she dropped off our order she just turned and walked away with out asking if we needed anything. Than she went to the table next to us and did the same thing & the man she was waiting on spoke up after she did what she did to us which was not say hello or smiling he said to her " hi how's your day?" So you see it just was us that noticed. the very nice bus boy came over more than she did cause she was to busy stuffing her face with food instead of seeing if we needed anything. She next dropped off food to a table next to us and walked right past without saying anything so I said excuse me are you are waitress? Knowing she was I asked for a Togo container. And let me explain this that while we were their the place was empty at 4:00 so it wasn't because she was running around to a bunch of tables. So all & all I gave the 4/stars for the good food and not even a corner of a star was for her. I gave her only $2.00 tip on the bill just for setting down me & my husbands plates. We gave the bus boy as he walked past $6.00 on a $25.00 bill. Paying over $30 for a meal you should have someone polite & nice with a smile on there face serving you it's just not right. We had reservations at Tallyrand for Thanksgiving Day for a large group. I am glad we got there early, because they are very popular on the holidays. First, their staff is very friendly and very well organized for big groups, and busy holidays. I got the Thanksgiving Turkey dinner, which included a slice of pumpkin pie. I have eaten out on Thanksgiving often in the past few years, and this was the best restaurant dinner I have ordered on the holiday. Everyone who came to dinner in my group raved about the food. A great spot for lunch or dinner in the Valley, Talleyrand has been doling it out for 50 years and the decor (as well as some of the employees) kinda feels like it. Primarily an older or family clientele, it's a great place to chill away from any "cool crowd" to have a down-home meal or a few cocktails, which are shockingly good--in particular their Mai Tai and Long Island Iced Tea. I don't eat meat so I don't partake in their turkey and gravy specialties, but their veggie burger is good, as is their Cesar salad. read more

You can tell who all the regulars are as they slowly make their way out the door by 6pm while you enter for dinner :) Went here for a superfuntastic birthday dinner. The servers were super accommodating and even kept the birthday cake in the fridge for us while we ate dinner. I had the fried chicken dinner which was deeeelicious - loved the white gravy on the mashed potatoes and the slaw was up to par. Boyfriend had a mother double-deck burger which he loved. The heart of Tallyrand, of course, is the score of old folk. This is the perfect place to talk about the days when you used to walk five miles to school, without shoes, in the snow. Or reminisce about your first job as a door-to-door salesperson. Or when soda pop was 5 cents. It's like the restaurant was ripped out of that movie Pleasantville (before Mary Sue goes on a date with Skip). Tallyrand also makes some good straight-up American diner food. You know when you wake up at the crack of dawn... your room is pitch black and the only visible lights are the red LED numbers flashing on your alarm clock... the same alarm clock that never learned the true meaning of snooze? Your eyes are heavy from congestion and your stomach is hungry for pancakes... That was my motivation. I decided to try something new. I heard about Tallyrand from a colleague at work so I decided to give them a try. Located near Olive Ave adjacent to the US bank in a private lot, this small business was booming with early morning customers. The first thing I noticed was the A-grade placard hanging on the window. As I entered, the waiter kindly greeted me and directed me to my seat. The crowd was mixed with children, grandparents and even mid aged customers. The design was old fashioned but the cleanliness made for a welcoming atmosphere. Within minutes, a gentleman brought me a cup of water and the waitress was ready to take my order. I must have received my meal within 10-15 minutes of chair warming. That was impressive. Now, onto the cuisine! I ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, two sausage links and a hot chocolate. To my delight, the hotcakes were, as Willy Wonka would say, "scrumdiddlyumptious". Denny's and IHOP could not compete with this small business. Three perfectly rounded golden brown flap jacks that looked liked they had just been caressed with the Midas touch. The eggs however were mediocre. They tasted like something you could order from McDonalds on a morning drive to work. The sausages were a good bang for the buck. Two pleasantly plump mid sized links seasoned with less spice than preferred but bigger than that of which you might receive from other restaurants. The hot chocolate was a scale below above-average. Imagine a cross between Swiss Miss and Nestle only non generic tasting... I would visit Tallyrand again. My meal came to $12 which I think was a little over priced for the overall experience but I was satisfied. I was content. read more

I stopped in this AM since I had an early meeting in Burbank. This was my first visit here and I was not disappointed, but I did have a higher expectation of service based on reputation. The visit started out very Twilight Zone-ish. When I arrived at 0630, there were no greeter, server or even a cook behind the cooks line. Other than one other customer at the counter, there was nobody there. I had to check to make sure I had not arrived before opening, but I had not. A sign said to "seat yourself" so I did so at the counter and presently I began to hear employees laughing and joking behind the service area. This went on for about five minutes until a server popped out and gave me a menu, then dissapeared for another five minutes. Very odd. The laughing and joking continued. She did come back and offer coffee at that point, but IMHO the offer of coffee was about 8 minutes late on the service timeline. Could she have interrupted her social time to service me? Since it was my first time there I wanted to take a few minutes to review the menu option items but I had hardly picked the menu up when the server asked if I was ready to order. How rookie was that? I politely said no and asked for a few minutes to review and she just walked off without acknowledging my request. She returned in a few minutes and I ordered then. She did however recommend some options on ordering which I appreciated. I was very disappointed to not see biscuits and gravy on the menu. This is a breakfast staple and those who read my Yelp reviews know that it is a favorite of mine. As a matter of fact, their breakfast menu is not that extensive, however it does place emphisis on omelettes for breakfast choices which are appreciated. The food that I ordered however was very good: The coffee was very fresh and tasty and I couldn't stop drinking it, and I am not a large consumer of coffee, just one cup or so in the AM. It was also just the right temperature. I ordered a short stack of pancakes and a side of potatoes. The food was only about five minutes in arriving, very fast production service. The hotcakes were very tasty as was the syrup, which in some venues is stale or just tasteless. The potatoes were cooked just right, and fortunately did not contain black or bell or red peppers which ruin the taste for me. However, they could have benefitted from adding a few onions to the mix. At about 0645, more customers started arriving and so did the family members who own and/or operate the restaurant. At that point the non-family employees seemed to kick into gear and service improved markedly and they started acting friendlier. No more foolisness and loud laughing and ingnoring customers then. I hope the owners and managers read this review and realize that when they are not there the rats run the ship to the detriment of the customers. This place is a legacy in Burbank and it deserves community support, but with indifferent service I don't see long term success. Training and/or better employee selection is key. One final note which does redeem service a bit is that I paid a ten-dollar check with a hundred-dollar bill since I had not remembered to stop at the ATM for some twenties before going to Tallyrand. I expected some pushback, but the server cashed it without complaint. My bad, but she did alright. Thanks. To sum up, I don't see that this restaurant is that exceptional based upon it's service but since the food is above average, I consider it to be a good, solid venue for breakfast. My absolute favorite breakfast spot and go to!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place - service is always fast, bus boys are beyond friendly and attentive - your coffee cup never goes past half way! the omlets, especially the Popeye are ridiculously delish! Everything is fresh and comes with a side of toast or their super yummy, home made muffins - best banana nut and blueberry muffins I've had. This is a family diner that is affordable and has a full bar. For all of that it gets 5 stars! It's not Ruth's Chris, but the food is consistent. We've been here many times. The food is pretty darn decent! Someday, we'll try the breakfast. Don't be thrown by reviewers that cite elders. There are families, middle-aged people, and some elderly. I have a long history with Tallyrand. My mom worked there for years, so I was basically raised in this cocoon of comfort food. This may explain future eating disorders, but I digress. The thing about this place is, even in the 70's, it was filled with old people! When my mom worked there it was filled with old people. I worked there for a time in the 80's and guess what? It was filled with old people. Old people with charachter and names like Nebraska, Ozzie and Earl. And thirty years from now all of you young whippersnappers commenting on the old people will some day be sitting in the orange booths ordering the hot turkey sandwich and inadvertently be the source of whimsical musings of some youngster on a new fangeled Internet review site of the future. The best part of Tallyrand? Without a doubt, Mary, the cashier. She hasn't aged a day in forever and she always is up for gossip, hugs and smiles. The food is really pretty good for a coffee shop in the depths of the valley. The soups are all home made and tasty. Fridays are clam chowder day. Try it with sour dough bread. The turkey dishes are famous. They roast a bunch of fresh turkeys daily for their hot turkey sandwiches and dinners. The deserts are excellent. I like the rice pudding..... In fact just thinking about this place makes me want to jump in the car and drive on over to this Burbank institution. There isn't anything better than a hot day in the Valley, a cool booth in the downstairs lounge, a cold martini straight up and a Tallymelt with onion rings. I'm giving Tallyrand 5 stars for the stellar St. Paddy's day feast of corn beef n' cabbage. That and the ambiance cannot be beat if you're looking for some serious people watching on the greenest of holidays. Every old lady in the entire world was at the Tallyrand last night wearing green, celebrating over a steaming plate of cured meat on a bed of cabbage. You wanna order mustard and horseradish w/ that. And get there early. We got there at 5:30 and had to wait 10 minutes. By the time we finished at 6:15 the line was out the door. Old Burbank at its finest. And I still have no idea what St. Patrick's Day is all about, but it's worth wearing stupid green crap just for the party food. read more

First off, the food really isn't that good. I've been here three times, and I have yet to be impressed (especially for the prices.) The food isn't terrible, it's simply mediocre. The major reason for the bad review is the service. The waitress was not friendly at all. I don't think she smiled once. She gave us about 5 minutes to look over the menu and then rushed us to order. Towards the end of our meal, she simply disappeared and we had to ask another waiter for a box for our leftovers. She showed up to give us the check and collect the signed receipt. On a total whim, I chose this place for a business lunch as I've passed Tallyrand a million times and only saw old people walking in and out. I figured it would be a quiet place to discuss business with a colleague, and I was correct! Despite all the reviews I had read warning me that this would be bland, uninteresting food in a setting that needed to be updated since the Nixon era, I came anyhow to see what I thought. Some reviews are correct, this really is old people food. However, it's pretty comforting and very filling. I chose the Turkey sandwich which is some turkey in between sliced white bread, then drowned in gravy with a scoop of cornbread stuffing and a couple of scoops of mashed potatoes, as well as a little cup of cranberry sauce. I heard it was the sandwich they were known for and I was pretty hungry so I went with that. Then I enjoyed the outdated decor, which even though it's outdated, it is very clean, and honestly, it's very cozy. Made me wish the grandparents were alive and that I was having a family dinner here. The sandwich came and it was larger than I anticipated. I'd say worth what they charged me for it. Upon the first few mushy bites, I was surprised. It was pretty good for old people food. It's not Spago, but I don't think they are trying to be hip and trendy. I think they opened in the 50's and stuck with their menu. They're still around, so it's obviously a draw regardless the age bracket. I only finished half of my meal and took it to go. Heated up great the next day for lunch and was just as filling. I'll probably return here every once in awhile when I need a blast from the past food. read more

It is hard to find negatives (which I have never experienced) when visiting an eatery that has maintained this level of quality and service for over 50 years. I went a few miles out of my way yesterday as I had a yearning for their (fresh) turkey dinner (almost like Thanksgiving in August) . One of the few establishments that prepares fresh roasted turkeys daily. All the trimmings for what might be the most reasonable price in Southern California. (even has a senior discount) I have been eating at Tallyrand for over 30 yeears - breakfast, lunch or dinner - I have never been disappointed. read more

Decided to try this place after my dad heard about it. The decor of this place is insanely dim and outdated. There were also stray ants on our table... gross. The service was friendly albeit insanely slow. Took us about 30-40 minutes for everyone to get their food. Mom got the fried chicken plate, and deduced that the chicken was over done and dry. Dad got the hot beef sandwich which he said was good (but to be honest, he is not very picky when it comes to food). Sister got the hot turkey sandwich (turkey and stuffing on bread topped with turkey gravy), which was pretty good. Her husband got the reuben sandwich, which he liked as well. I got a turkey burger which was really dry and tasted like it was frozen and reheated in a microwave. What didn't make sense to me though was that even though this place's food is pretty subpar, the menu, in my opinion, was insanely overpriced. My turkey burger with a side was about $9 and the more popular dishes were pushing $10-11. Not really sure why such average things are so overpriced. Terrible!!!!! Worst service ever!!! My boyfriend and I went here, and several times it seemed the waitress completely forgot about us. We had to wave her down after sitting there for 30 minutes without being asked for even a drink order. Watched an episode of Huell Howser and figured if it was good enough for Huell to cover then there has to be something to it. Ordered the Turkey Hot Sandwich special. The food was awesome! Definitely, come with an appetite! I couldn't finish it all. The service was spectacular. I sat at the counter at the front and was immediately waited upon. From the time I ordered until the food arrived was only 5 minutes. The place is always busy and locals have been coming there for years. The only reason for 4 stars out of 5 was getting in and out of the parking lot can be an issue and the building is starting to show its age. But don't let the parking and building concern. This is the place to go if you like fresh turkey instead of processed cold cuts. I love the Polo omelette, which has fresh turkey, avocado and cheese, and the turkey melt. I was feeling daring one day and ordered the salmon and it was good too, especially with the jalapeno butter. You can get a big wedge of bread or a fresh muffin, and to drink I like the Arnold Palmer, which is half tea and half lemonade. You can eat in the cozy lounge if you want to watch TV. Sometimes when I come in it takes a while to get acknowledged by the staff. If they're busy, even a nod and a "I'll be right with you" would be nice. Recently I found live aphids on the kale on my plate, so I guess we can assume it's fresh and organic. :) Also, they need to get rid of the horrifying mint green paint. No one wants to look at that while they're eating. read more

I guess this place has been in business for several years in Burbank, it's family-owned and has quite a loyal following; so my boyfriend and I decided to try it out for dinner the other night. BAD DECISION. The only highlight of the evening was the busser. He greeted us right away once we were seated and took our drink order; he was very friendly. It was quite some time, however, before we saw our server. When he got there, he displayed about as much personality as the dirty wallpaper surrounding us. I wouldn't go so far as to call him rude, but he was far from pleasant. I ordered a tuna sandwich and a side salad. I asked for no croutons on my salad, but it didn't matter anyway, because the side salad doesn't come with croutons. It doesn't come with anything, really; it's just a small serving of mixed greens. After we ate our salads, a horrible chemical odor started overtaking the entire dining area. No one came over to apologize or offer us any explanation. Once it got so bad that I literally had to breathe through my napkin, I flagged down our server and asked him about the smell. He told us that they were cleaning something in the kitchen, but that they had stopped. I asked him if it would be possible to move us to another area of the restaurant that was farther away from the kitchen and he was unable to accommodate us. A few minutes later, he returned with our food. I guess the thing everybody raves about there is the turkey sandwich, because that's what my server brought me, in spite of the fact that I had ordered something completely different. When I pointed out to him that I had ordered tuna, not turkey, he didn't really say much of anything; he just took the plate away. When he returned with my tuna sandwich, it was clear that someone had simply picked up the turkey sandwich off the plate, replaced it with tuna (I think they may have even used the same bread) and sent it back out. I know this because there were bits of turkey that had fallen off the original sandwich and remained on the plate. As far as the food quality, my tuna sandwich and fries were actually pretty good, but my boyfriend's turkey burger was disappointing. We were thinking that, since turkey is kind of their thing, that they might make their own turkey patties; this does not seem to be the case. It tasted like any frozen turkey patty you would find at a grocery store. I usually order dessert after my meal, but we passed this time. We paid the check, tipped our server 25% (even though he deserved about 2%), and Tally-RAN out of there, never to return. I'm giving it two stars because of the two items I liked. (The soup and salad). The chicken fried streak was frozen and not fresh. The brown gravy they put on it doesn't hide the bad taste. Then the spaghetti and meatballs tasted like an old shoe. The picture in the menu was very deceiving. We knew it was kind of the end of the night but we arrived at 9 PM and they seem to have run out of a few things. Iced tea was one of them.... and flavor... and seasoning... I know it's an old-school family restaurant from back in the day. But I think you need to be a little more try in the kitchen. Bring some of those family values back. read more

Been here twice, and between my husband and I, we've tried the sampler appetizer(really good), fish & chips(also good), southwest burger(really bad, no taste at all), and the turkey dinner(awesome, my favorite). We tried this place out because it's an old school diner that serves liquor. The first time we went, it was a nice, chilled atmosphere. The second time we went, we couldn't get out fast enough. We had a tall, thin, blonde waitress who drove us nuts. Actually, I think she was a little nuts herself. She was always mumbling things as she zoomed passed our table. Some of them were directed at us, and clearly some were directed at the voices in her head. I assume she's the same waitress other reviewers have called 'entertaining'. I suppose she could be, but she just made us want to get out of there. As we were seated near the cash register, we got to hear her singing only one line, repeatedly, of whatever song was on the radio at the time. It was like eating with a bee that constantly buzzed past your ear. Whenever she came near, we had to focus attention on her, because she might be saying something to us, or might just be mumbling about the table she just helped. Then again, rarely did anything she had to say to us require our participation. She was very capable of having a conversation all on her own, as long as we nodded and smiled. All in all, the prices are good, portions are generous, but we won't be coming back. Not if there is even a small chance we'll get 'Crazy Sally' as we decided to call her. She completely wrecked our dining experience, and we don't really require that much. read more
