I suggest you eat with caution but for me I will not be coming back. My boyfriend ordered a Chicken Teriyaki set with egg rolls. He spat the egg rolls out since they were half frozen and old. *Service was lacking from the waitress that day even though it was not busy. Our second visit, be careful they don't do drink refills. They charged my boyfriend 3 times when he ordered diet Coke. The waitress was overwhelmed as it was crowded that day. We asked for water, she brought back Coke. We had to flag her down several times to get service. Our first visit was probably the best which helped us determine to come back here. My boyfriend really liked his ramen. For me, I thought the broth was way too oily. We will not be coming back, especially after the food poisoning. And from reading other reviews, others are having the same problems. Hands down this was the best $20 I've spent in a long time. I got the Tampopo set which was everything you see pictured. The ramen was so flavorful and I'm so happy I got the extra eggs.. they were bursting with flavor! I really enjoyed the fried rice as well. Good food, friendly service. They have a huge list of rolls that you can get that's 50% off. Mostly spicy ones but I was able to find some good rolls. Filling, decent sized rolls, and good taste. Should have gotten the baked salmon roll vs the tempura salmon The prices for the rolls not on the 50% sale are pretty pricey but probably worth the price. Just came to lunch here. Absolutely surprised how fresh the sushi and rolls are while most rolls are 50% off. You know the sushi is fresh when it's creamy and melt in your mouth. The last time I have sushi like that was in Japan. So definitely recommend. They also have lots of option with ramen, udon, soba, sushi, and rolls including cooked rolls for those that don't eat raw. So.. I went here on Monday for the first time after work with a buddy and things seem to go well i got seated and got a beer and water. The server was cool, I asked what she liked on the menu it's my first time here although i eat sushi at other places, i enjoy taking recommendations bc who know the food better than the servers right !! The food arrived and the place was looking pretty slow, after about 20 min a few more people came in and was seated in front of me.. that's when the experience started going down hill for me. The first thing I observed was when this young group of 4 was seated the server brought them green beans, water, napkin and soup before they ordered, I said ok that's different, then after the order came they had their glasses of water refilled like 3 or 4 times I'm like dam ! That's great! Anyway me and another family was ignored the whole meal, no water, no service and im not going back ever!!! I spoke to the manager about this review, he said he didnt care write all i want!! I hate to say it was racism but it was something, me and the people next to me was black got no service and everyone else was treated like they were family. This isn't my first time to Tampopo's. In fact, it is one of our go to ramen restaurants here in the South Bay. While this will be my first review of the place, I write this from the perspective of having eaten here for the last 3 years. We had just dropped off my wife at LAX for a visit to friends, so it was a dinner date with my daughter Sophie. Ramen is a favorite of hers and it was no surprise when I asked her what she wanted for dinner after dropping off my wife, of course ramen! And Tampopo was my immediate thought. It was around 830PM so there was just a light medium dinner crowd and we were seated right away. What I love about Tampopo's is their ramen sets AND they also have sushi in their menu! It's like a 2-in-one restaurant. You can choose to order ramen alone but why if they offer choices of ramen plus another dish? Naturally, Sophie and I went for the ramen sets. She had the Katsudon set which is ramen+ chicken cutlet don while I ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll set which was ramen plus 4 pieces of spicy tuna roll. It was our first time to order the Katsudon set and what a surprise it was! This is a dish for someone REALLY hungry as both bowls of ramen and chick cutlet were quite large! Their ramen broth is perfectly savory, the noodles perfectly chewy, and the chicken cutlet which we never had before was a very interesting and wonderfully sweet salty flavor of sauce and egg over the rice bowl. The seaweed topping was nice decor but a good flavored decor anyone can eat! As expected, Sophie had to take home half of each bowl and saved it for the following day. (And she wouldn't share the leftovers with me.. guess I can't blame her). The spicy tuna roll was spicy and flavorful enough (2nd time I've ordered this set). If you are torn between having ramen or sushi, look no further than Tampopo's! It is a cozy place with an amazing menu. I have tried a variety of sushi, sashimi, and sushi rolls while sitting at the counter in front of the sushi chefs previously. Conversation with chefs was so nice and he even gave me a complimentary dish eel and cucumber roll. I'd also like to praise the service crew who are great too! Highly recommended! This particular area has one restaurant located right next to the other. Ate here for lunch with business colleagues. You wait to be seated and the tables are placed close together because of the limited space. They have a lunch menu, but I had to have a bento box because I just love those. I had the spicy teriyaki chicken, which came with spicy tuna rolls (you can choose from a list of sides), macaroni salad, green salad, rice, and soup. I enjoyed it. I need to come here more often and mix it up a bit by trying the other bento boxes or sushi. The waiter was nice and although there were four of us, it did not seem as though our food took too long either. It is a very busy shared parking lot, especially during lunch. I'm never disappointed by this place even when it's busy. There are days and some evenings that it gets really crowded in here. Weekends for sure will be impossible to find parking in the parking lot so be prepared. By only gripe is that in the time I've been coming here since Nov. 2016, their rations for the seafood in the seafood ramen has been dwindling, all for the same price as always. The food is still delicious, but I feel that if seafood proportions will be less, then the pricing should be adjusted. But again, it's just my opinion and the business will run as they deem fit. Disappointed with service. I went in with my family for the first time and we waited over 11 minutes to be greeted and asked if we wanted drinks. It wasn't until we made eye contact with the server. They weren't friendly or hospitable. As a former server I am happy to tip between 20-25% because I understand the industry, I did not tip well at this establishment and even second guessed my tip and changed it back to what I felt the service reflected. The total I wrote on the bill was $20 dollars and I was charged $28 which I also find upsetting. The food was okay if you don't care about friendly service. But for a family that doesn't go out to eat often and wanted to share an experience with our kids it's difficult to enjoy or feel like it was worth it when plates couldn't even be cleared, we were never asked if we wanted to refill our drinks or more food and to top it all off no one was friendly. Didn't go through the bag because I asked the lady helping me if we had everything, and she said, "yes". Also counted the containers and it all checked out. I appreciated the prompt service, so I gave her some cash for her troubles, knowing I don't need to for takeout. BUT, no tempura sauce, no chopsticks, no soy sauce. My brother and I love this restaurant. I have yet to find a sushi/ramen plsce with better prices. The spot is located in a nice plaza. There's a lot of parking spaces but the plaza has popular places to eat so parking can be a pain if you're not there at the right time. Usually lunch time it's not so crowded. The place is pretty dark on the inside. It has that restaurant kind of feel to it. All the seats and tables are wood, it kind of creaks when you sit on it. The employees are nice. They definitely help you if you don't know certain customs like how to eat certain foods. They do a pretty good job in refilling waters. When it comes to food, the ramen is always a good choice for those cold days. The portions are huge! I don't think I've ever fully finished a bowl of their ramen. I suggest getting stleast 1 plate of sushi for the table. So far all their sushi's have been really tasty and I've had no food poisoning for it so I approve. What I like to do is keep the sushi menu at the table, it's so cheap and if me and my party are still hungry for some reason, we order more sushi. I'd definitely be coming bsck here. My mom and I were looking for a Japanese restaurant in Tozai Plaza. We stopped in here first and the guy was in the far back of the restaurant, he yelled at me from the back and asked if I was picking up or ready to order. Mind you, there wasn't a single soul there ordering or picking up, just me. My mom was outside so I picked up a paper menu and went to take it outside. He yelled at me, again from the back part of the restaurant, that I couldn't take it outside. When I held it up to show him it was a paper menu, he yelled back, "You can take it outside." At that point, I was done with the poor customer service so we just left and went around the corner to Kiraku, which, by the way, was excellent! Food AND customer service at Kiraku was top notch. Their quality had deteriorated during our last visit. Tampopo set: too much greens in the broth that it loses its flavors. All i tasted was the green onions taste. The fried rice was less bold in taste. The rolls were subpar now. My son wanted rice and eels rolls but they couldn't make it. I came one day to try deep fried California rolls and my significant other had a spicy soup and we loved it so much we kept coming always getting the same thing we always left a tip here and there and one day we came to the restaurant and they complained that we don't tip enough and they told us that they didn't want us to be there no more we came every day to get food and spent majority of about $80 every time we came and always did leave a tip or if we couldn't we left what we could and they we're so rude that day so I haven't been there since. I was very upset about them complaining about us not always tiping when we come so muchthis was a good place until we were disrespected.
