As the director of a nonprofit corporation that is building housing for our over 40,000 veterans who are still currently living on the streets of our nation (V1ST.ORG), I have to be extremely careful about our spending. I run a small fabrication shop in Concord, working mainly with hard woods. At times we incorporate plastics into a design and have always found Tap Plastics to be a top source for advice as well as materials. Most recently, we're working on a project that requires cementing a couple of different plastic materials together. i came here to look for some 4x4 inch plastic pieces. when i went inside, i asked one of the employees if he had any pieces. he told me that they would have to "special order them". since i only needed 6 pieces, i asked him how much it would cost. he told me that it would be $30 to just set up the saw and about $8 a piece. i said no thanks and was leaving the store when i noticed some scrape pieces on the shelf. the pieces was 5x5 and costed me only $1 a piece. what a rip off. i would not purchase anything from these guys again. read more

I am a fourth year design student and joined an AP 3D art class this year. I have purchased from TAP Plastics before, and I always get the plastic I need for my projects from here. It fits in my laser cutter and works really well for me. I give three stars for a few reasons. First, I think the price is a little too high, at $8-9 for a 12"x12" piece of plastic. Second, I specifically requested the colors I needed, and they gave me a dark red color instead of the purple I'm sure I asked for. Third, the employees are always really condescending to me when I come in. When I was waiting for my plastic, one employee (I didn't catch his name) was telling me how to clean it - I said I use CitraSolv to get off scorch marks from the laser, and he told me not to use alcohol or acetone products. CitraSolv is not an alcohol or acetone product. He also told me to tell my "buyers" not to use these materials on the plastic, but I never said I was intending to sell my projects. They're for my portfolio to submit to AP for a grade, not a business. I've been working with plastic on the laser cutter for over a year, so it's really frustrating when the employees act like they know my projects better than I do. Be ready for some employees to talk down to you if you're a woman, I guess. Otherwise, great products, fast service, and I'll continue to shop here as long as I need the plastic because it's the most convenient location for me. read more

After having been to this TAP Plastics and always driving away happy, I should be giving them 10 FIVE STAR reviews. I cannot tell you how many times they have filled the needs I have had. Most recently I needed a thin piece of stiff white plastic 30 1/2" X 2" for the outside bottom of the screen door. Super cheap and the gentleman advised me on the removal of adhesive from the inside flexible bug guard that I was able to save. WOW. They never cease to impress. read more

I typically don't feel compelled to write a review immediately after leaving a place and getting into my car, but I have experienced such great customer service at this place that I feel the need to recognize this establishment. I walk in on my way home and ask about having them cut an existing piece of plexiglass I have at home after I horribly butchered the thing trying to cut it my hand. They told me to bring it in with the dimensions I want to cut it down to and they would take care of it. So I get home and measure it and bring it back and they did exactly that! All those jagged edged and crooked cuts I attempted to do myself disappeared after they ran it through their saw and made it all pretty again. Best thing of all is that they didn't charge me for it! There was so much to look at and potential project ideas I saw when walked in, so I will definitely be back to pick up a few scrap pieces of acrylic at $1.50 per pound to make my next project. TAP Plastics in Concord is great. I went in to have them fabricate a custom instrument panel for my fishing boat. It took them about four days, then they called me to pick it up. (Here is where they earned my respect and future business) When I went in to pick it up, I noticed that the job was not entirely correct. The panel was a fraction of an inch too narrow on two sides, and did not exactly match the template that I had left with them. I pointed this out to the attendant (Jim), fully expecting some kind of excuse or argument. Instead Jim said that he could see that the product was not as I ordered, and it would be be re-fabricated and available in two days. I got a call for pick up the next day. The part was perfect. I placed the new instruments in the new instrument panel and screwed it onto the boats steering station. It looks and works great. I am extremely happy with product and the price. I am most impressed with the professional attitude Jim had, and his concern that I be completely satisfied with my order. TAP plastics earned my trust and future business. read more

I have to tell you what a fine, creative employee you have at Store #14 ---Ed. I came in with a special drawer that I needed to fit into my new sewing machine. The price for such a drawer to be made was WAY too expensive for what this was for---it was not to save a life or anything like that!! So Ed helped me by suggesting that I could put the box together. 3/15/13 Russ, San Ramon, CA I collect very expensive metal die cast model cars as a hobby. As my collection has grown, I realized I needed some nice acrylic displays to showcase my models and keep them protected. I proceeded to lay out a rough sketch along with measurements of what I had in mind for my displays. I chose to go to the Tap Plastics store in Pleasant Hill, CA to see if they could build the displays I wanted. I was greeted by Lateef, who informed me they could build the displays and be happy to do so. I worked with him on the idea of my layout and after he advised me that a tweek here and there would make the displays better suited for what I wanted, I completely agreed with him and decided to have that store build my displays under his direction. As I understand from Lateef, Katie did most of cutting and construction of the displays per his direction. When I went to pick up the displays, I was extremely impressed with what a great job they both had done. The displays were exactly what I wanted and were designed perfectly. Now, I can really show off my collection to my friends! I was extremely impressed with Lateef and Katie and all of the rest of the crew. The handle on my food processor bowl broke, rendering my $350 food processor useless. No replacement bowl available. My friend advised me to try TAP Plastics and as he is a very handyman kind of guy, I thought why not. A young lady (sorry can't remember her name) and a gentleman named Steve were able to identify the type of plastic and glue the piece back on. I was wondering whether the glue would hold when I cranked the bowl into the locked position. Success! I have been to this store several times over the years and have come away happy every time. I have had a box built to set my computer monitor on because equipment needed to set below it, perfect job. Another time I needed a new cover for my overhead light in my kitchen, another perfect job and it still looks treat. Every time I visit the store with a project, the Ed and other staff members are very helpful in turning my ideas into a finished item. Today I picked up two thermo formed screen shades; which Gary had crafted for me using a mold template I had provided. He designed the template for cutting out the sheet of plastic that he then used to form around the mold provided. These screens will be placed around the navigation screen in my RV, providing shade from the sun shining in from either passenger side windows or from windshield. Tap Plastics Pleasant Hill (Store #14) is a great place to find plastics, epoxies, and problem solving! They have a wide range of plastics, epoxies, mold-making materials, fiberglass materials and cleaning products I have used for multiple sailboat and aquarium projects. Need something cut to size? Head right in, have it done quick and right and save yourself a ton of time and frustration compared to trying to cut it yourself! As a science teacher, I have been here several times for acrylic sheets and tubes to make into lab materials, as well as two-part epoxy to coat table aprons for the ultimate student-proof protection. Some of my students have begun constructing an underwater ROV to explore the underwater world. The main support structures and waterproof tubes are acrylic and need to be put together with acrylic cement. My 8th graders are used to trying new things in science and view mistakes as learning opportunities, but they were very worried they would irreparably mess up our ROV with acrylic cement. When I went to Tap to pick up additional cement and hypo applicators (try getting those anywhere else locally) I was digging through the remnant bin for acrylic scraps when a store associate asked me if I needed help. I explained the situation and he gave me a bunch of acrylic squares at no charge for my students to practice on. So nice! Well, after watching the Tap Plastics instructional video online about using acrylic cement, a couple of my students eagerly assembled some of the squares, then later moved on to the ROV project with confidence. At the next build session they showed peers the video, gave them tips, then had them practice on the squares. Very cool. I highly recommend this store. Back in late February (2015), I went in for a light cover after calling many places. A business on Monument Drive recommended this place. Before I arrived, I called them for a price on a 2x4 foot kitchen light cover. A very professional male answered the phone and told me that it would be $13 dollars and some change after we discussed what I was looking for. I brought my old light cover in, they measured it, and it was LESS than 2x4 feet. Once they were done cutting the light cover, a woman came to the help desk to ring me up, and told me the price was $26.37. I told her that I was told it would be $13 and change over the phone. She looked at me like I was stupid and was not even going to budge on the price. I paid the price, almost more than double what I was quoted over the phone AND the size was SMALLER than I originally told them. I will never return. I am glad I found my receipt and cutting order, which reminded me to write this review. read more

Today I brought in a framed print because the bubblewrap I used was not enough, and the glass had cracked in transit from a relative's house to my house. I called ahead to find out about how much plastic would cost to replace the glass because the picture would be displayed in an area of my home with lots of traffic between two doorways. I decided that plastic would be safer if it ever broke again. Melynda gave me the estimate on the phone and said it could be custom cut while I waited. When I arrived, she remembered my call and helped me. I was amazed by her patience and the attention that she gave my little project. Although they do not generally help to reassemble the framing after they cut the piece, she agreed to help me do it. I cannot thank her enough; it was a difficult endeavor to put all the parts back together. She "grabbed the reins" and made sure that it all lined up properly. She gets my highest recommendation for mellow and helpful customer service. Hats off to Melynda!
