I've been all about takeout and supporting local businesses during these last couple months and as a part of that I get to discover new places that I have yet to try. One recent discovery was Tara Thai. I love Thai food and via a quick search online and Yelp; I found Tara Thai. I placed an order online for takeout and chose to get their Glass Noodle and Eggs and Spring Rolls. The Spring Rolls come with glass noodles too! It was actually one of the reasons I chose to order it. I love it when egg rolls have glass noodles. Because I got the food delivered; the spring rolls unfortunately were not as crispy as I would have wanted. Nevertheless it was still a fairly good appetizer with lots of veggies inside. The Glass Noodles was tasty too and had chicken, egg, carrots, egg, bean sprouts and scallion. it was nice and light. Staff was super friendly! They don't let you dine in. You can actually walk into the place but they have tables set up so that you can't step into the dining area. There's a sign that says something about staying safe for now. Nonetheless, the lady working there was very sweet. I had placed an order via phone for pick up anyways. I decided on the the chicken Tom kha soup and grilled salmon for lunch. Tom kha was delicious, not a whole of chicken though. The grilled salmon on top of green beans and broccoli was very tasteful served with a side of steamed rice. Okay so we ordered thru DoorDash and they brought the wrong order (I think they knew they sent the wrong order because they called and asked us to tell the driver to call the restaurant....he didn't have their number? Anyway I called the number from the website but it said the phone wasn't set up?...kind of weird?). So I emailed them and got strange emails back? Anyway. PAD SEE EW- with chicken. this wasn't that flavorful to me. PAPAYA SALAD- This was good . I asked for mild.. and was a little more like a med. to me. I enjoyed it.. but my friend thought it was not mild. CHICKEN BASIL- I usually like my chicken Basil with ground chicken.. if you like the big pieces of chicken then you'll like this. This was ok. The pineapple fried rice here is so dang good!!! One of the better ones I've had in the South Bay. The curry flavor is not overpowering. There is chicken, pineapple, onions, raisins, shrimp, and more! The portion size is not too big so good for sharing for 2-3 people. I got tofu Pad Thai. The tofu pad Thai was so so. It wasn't good but it wasn't bad. I thought the dish was a bit on the salty side. The restaurant is a bit small and it pretty empty on a Friday night. Service was fast. Note the 10% off yelp check in is good if you have purchased 2 drinks. There is also a $25 for $30 deal on yelp but I did not purchase it as our meal did not total $30. Side note: while we were there we overhead a delivery order being placed. They only deliver with 3 miles (or so I heard). read more

I ordered pineapple fried rice through delivery. I don't usually leave reviews unless the food is really good or really bad. This dish was unfortunately the latter. The moment I opened the container, the smell of burnt rice flooded my nose. The taste was also heavily burnt. The ingredients seemed fine so it was likely just cooked in a rush. Seeing the generally good reviews on here, I'll comment that this is probably a rare incident. However, this is one of the few times I've ever been delivered burnt food. I may have food poisoning but I'll let y'all know. Hope the chef is more careful next time! read more

Have been here twice. I'll start with the good things. Service was great. Floors and tables were spotless. Plenty of parking. Checking in on yelp gets you a discount which is always nice. Howev... Food is overpriced and, compared to other Thai restaurants, not as good. Don't get me wrong. It's not bad, just nothing to write home about. Shrimp didn't taste super fresh and portions were small. Menu is extensive so plenty of choices. You're better off ordering a full size meal instead of the lunch special for a couple dollars more. So I have to commend Tara Thai. This has been one of our go-to takeout places during covid. Their quality of food has never been compromised. Overall good flavors. Some reduction in menu, but only to ensure quality of the rest of the menu. Overall two thumbs up. Definitely have become regulars. My husbands go to is the duck curry. Delicious with big chunks of pineapple and they are generous with the duck and other ingredients. Curry broth is robust and full of flavor. Pre-pregnancy my go to was their panang curry! With shrimp or tofu. Delicious, spicy, and filling! I have been gravitating to the pad see ew noodles with shrimp though as of late. I recommend adding extra veggies to it! I've lived around the corner for years and never tried this place. I ordered delivery yesterday, green curry and shrimp pad Thai. WOW. The green curry was the best I've had in years, perfect balance of spice and flavor. I was practically drinking it like soup. Arrived here and was surprised to see a full food photo shoot taking place. Aside from the interesting entertainment, Service: incredibly accommodating and attentive. The attendant made sure we got our food and drinks as desired, even fixing my Thai coffee when I told her it was too sweet. Food: I ordered the tofu pad Thai, and my husband got the BBQ that chicken. The pad Thai was okay. The flavor was a little light IMO. My husband says the chicken tasted a lot more like Curry than teriyaki or bbq. That being said, the food hits the craving spot, but doesn't satisfy it. Their serving size was MASSIVE. you can definitely share a plate and both still leave full. The food is good, on par with the average Thai restaurant. There's a lot in the area, none stand out and they all seem pretty much the same with slight variances in prices and portions, but food quality and taste are all pretty semilar in the South Bay. The prices are okay, around $10-15 per entree, and if you're dining "family style" you could really benefit from having a diverse assortment of tasty flavors, with about 1 dish for every 1.5 to 2 people, as far as how much you could or should order here (i.e. for 6 people, maybe order 4 dishes), unless you love leftovers. The Won Ton was good, it was essentially a large shrimp in a won ton noodle skin. The sweet and sour fish was tasty, with a $15 order having about 6-8 fried fish fillets, fresh n' hot. The Pad Thai was good and standard. I'm personally not a connoisseur of Pad Thai, and I generally order the Pad See Ew (sweet chow fun) when craving a Thai noodle dish. The service is very friendly. I'd recommend Tara Thai as a good, solid, reliable place to eat. No complaints at all, and the parking lot is easy too, 'tho be careful if you're turning left into the lot from the other side of the street, you might want to turn your car around past the restaurant to it becomes easier to enter as a right turn into the lot from the same side of the street. read more
