Food was overall good but I we went to this establishment to begin with due to the rave reviews on their hot and spicy crispy tofu. We ordered it to be less spicy with 1-star, but not only was it super spicy, it was very salty, verrrrrrry greasy, and verrrrrrry soggy with not even the slightest hint of crispiness. We mentioned it to the waiter, who expressed regret and was nice about it and said that he would tell the cook who takes pride in his cooking, but the cook apparently didn't care. Food: 5/5 Service: No issues Ambiance: Casual Value: 4.75/5 In terms of Chinese restaurants in Portland, I think Tasty Corner is one of the best Szechuan options available. Not many restaurants offer dry pot and they did very well here. My only suggestion would be having dry pots with more combination of meats and ingredients. Their hot chicken was good, sizable and boneless. Flavor and crispiness was on point. The hand shaven noodle also was better than I expected and had good flavor. If you like peanut sauce it does have a hint of peanut flavor to the noodle sauce. Service was attentive and drinks were refilled regularly. What stands out to me is the portion size and value. The dry pot contained a good portion of meat and so did the hot chicken. In some Szechuan restaurants it's just a massive pile of chillies and not so much meat. That isn't the case here. Tons of meat. Pricing aligns with other Chinese offerings in the area. I would say in terms of restaurant quality, this lines up to even some spots in the Bay Area. Close to PSU with just an hour until a White Bird Dance performance, we needed a quick pre-show chow down. Two servers came by numerous times to check if we needed anything and without prompting, take empties, fill waters,bring your bill, hustling hustling . Sure with campus customers they are used to turning tables for premium efficiency, it shows. There are lots of booths in a pleasant, bright dining room with TVs on wall; bathrooms are down a hallway that look like part of campus and you need a code. Yep the thrones just like school ones. Just 7 min walk to Lincoln Hall for the dance so parking outside once made our dine n dash a cinch. It felt a lot more stale and less vibrant than I expected. I ordered the Mandarin crispy chicken, and I wasn't impressed. There was too much breading and fat on the chicken and it wasn't crispy it was mostly just soaked in sauce. The crab rangoons were small and had more cream cheese than crab which was a bummer. The chicken fried rice was the best part of my meal but even that wasn't anything special The service, No greeting when I walked in which made the experience feel kind of cold and the restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night. I found this place on instagram and looked like a good place to eat. I went and ordered the Hot & Spicy House Made Hand Shaven Noodle. What i expected was thin but not to thin noodles and once the food got there the noodles were a little thick which wasn't what i really liked. I also ordered it with shrimp and I got the small pieces of shrimp i expected the normal size of shrimp. It wasn't my liking but if you like thick noodles and small shrimp try it out. Now are server, he came and smelled like cigarettes lot. That was the only thing bad about the service. The rest was find i just wouldn't go back there. read more

Almost 4 stars. The food is pretty good, fresh, and comes in large portions perfect for sharing. I especially liked the shrimp with vegetables and the pork with wood-ear mushrooms. However the steamed dumplings that come in the bamboo basket weren't very good. The wrapper was hard upon arrival and the meat is also a bit tough. The seasoning of the filling was a bit off as well. I tried to spruce them up with some of the chili sauce on the table but that tasted stale/weird also. For a parent, I was disappointed that there wasn't a small kids menu. There also is no guest WiFi available in the restaurant (our child wanted to watch their iPad while we waited for food to arrive). This is a nice but simple place for Chinese-style food, but the ambiance leans more toward very bright cafeteria, and not necessarily elegant, intimate or stylish. So delicious and authentic!! Stopped by on a Monday night, pretty slow evening but oh my goodness, my husband was transported back to China. The Shanghai style pork dumplings or xia long bao were so flavorful and juicy and hot and made our day! Loved the hot n spicy hand cut noodles with chicken. We even added some more pepper sauce that was on the table to spice it up more. The best dish was the hot n spicy dried pot with pork spare ribs... tender fried pieces of chopped up ribs, served with chili oil, cauliflower, green beans, and potatoes.
