Tasty Pot is a very good spot to take your family, friends, and coworkers. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The owner came up to us when we arrived and introduced us to his restaurant. I haven't felt so kindly greeted before by any restaurant owner, so I was pleased. We sat at a table near the center of the store, and everyone around us was enjoying their food and drinking their boba teas. There are sections of the store that are for people who just want to drink teas, tables for people to eat at, and possibly a reserved section in the back corner. There is a QR code on the table to place your order, so make sure that you have a smartphone for this. The order was easy and customizable. You can choose your dishes, protein, and spice level. I chose mild, so it came out perfect, not too spicy and not too simple. The owner's son came by to check on us and brought over our appetizers, and was very friendly. Soon after, the rolling robot with a cat face came over to bring us our drinks. The cutest thing in the store. I need one for home, now. After a while, they brought out our food on a burner plate. Our hot pot was bubbling and tasty. You can turn off the flame below with a slide of the switch if you don't want a super hot pot. I did this right away because I didn't want to burn my mouth and lose the experience. My dish, Curry flavor hot pot, was so delishish, and I wish I had room for another bowl, but I got so full so quickly. The spicy level was perfect, the ingredients were top notch, and the presentation was superb. Although I'd love to take my work lunch breaks here, I don't think this is a place where you want to rush the dine in. I think this place has cute charm, but considering we have Zu Hot Pot in town, this was a bit of a disappointment. I did enjoy the squid cakes and their dumplings, but the tea and meal weren't mine blowing. You pay for a combo hot pot, and it wasn't great! Lots of different meats but we only saw a few shell fish and fish cakes among the veggies. The staff is very nice, so no fault to them, our server rocked it and was super patient. Unfortunately, both visits the robot did not deliver our drinks. The first visit all our spice levels were mixed up, the meat was over cooked and we were not provided with instructions on how to use the heat. Service was horrible!! We had to wave down several times to get our drinks refilled, to get extra napkins and to remind them of our sides. We even had to get up and physically and take our cups to someone to get them refilled. It was truly a disappointment the first visit. We thought we'd give it another chance and had the same disappointing experience. Over cooked meat, mixed up heat levels, late on bringing our sides, waving servers to refill waters, and had to get up to ask for napkins. We really wanted to like this place because some (not all) of the broth is good. Hopefully this place can make improvements, especially with the pricey menu. This restaurant opened just three weeks ago, and it may just be one of main go-to's for Asian food! The restaurant is clean and inviting and warm in decor. It felt nice enough for a dinner date. The tables and chairs seemed spaced out so no one was too close! The staff were friendly and helped explain. There are add-ons or appetizers, but I was plenty full with the bowl. The rice or vermicelli are the options that com with the bowl, and they come on the side. The bowl comes sitting in the decorative cradle with fire underneath. You can slide the lever to center to stop the cooking. If you want more broth mid-way through eating, they would bring it out and fill your bowl. I got the Japanese miso bowl, and my friend got the tomato bowl. There are a few bowls on the menu that are larger and have the higher price. But that just means you get to take home what you don't eat. I loved the broth of my dish and equally loved my friend's. The bowl was loaded with meat, seafood, vegetables. You'll have to see their menu online. It seemed like a long list of ingredients for each bowl. You also can ask for the heat/spice level of your choice from none to hot! I got mild, and it was perfect for me! We met the owner Sophie who said she also owns it with her son. She is a local resident who has been in ABQ for a while. HIGHLY recommend this wonderful place. I was really looking forward to some pig intestine and pig blood cake or even some stinky tofu... not sure they just ran out or they have to dial down the menu for the Albuquerque appetite. The waitress were friendly but the robot was unable to read the restaurant route due to some large table was moved around that cause some drinks to spilled over. Ambiance was lively. Tasty Pot is an American restaurant chain focusing on Taiwanese hot pot with 38 locations and 10 more planned as of June 2023. The ABQ location opened May 18, 2023 as the only New Mexico location, so it's quite new. The closest other currently open locations are located in Denver and Phoenix. They offer 12 selections of different hot pot soups, after which you select your spice level (5 options ranging from no spice to flaming spicy), then choose any vegetable add-ons (28 options), and then choose any meat add-ons (31 options). There are also teas and boba teas you can order. When you enter Tasty Pot, you grab a table and scan the QR code to access the menu and then order. Your drinks and dishes may be delivered by their robot server, which has kitty ears atop it. When we sat down and accessed the menu, there wasn't a description of what kind of hot pot it was. With traditional hot pot, the broth is brought to the table and kept simmering and raw ingredients are added by the diner(s). When they are cooked, the diner takes out the food and dips them in different sauces. Tasty Pot's version of hot pot is an Americanized version where you order the dish and it comes out to the diner prepared and ready to eat. There is still a flame underneath that continuities to cook the dish; you can slide the cover over to stop the flame. I tried to use the "I have a question" button through the QR link, but you can't hail a server though that until you order, which seems counterintuitive. We ended up being able to wave down a server to ask about the process. I ordered the Curry Flavor Hot Soup, which is a combination of pork products, fish products, and vegetables. It's comprised of napa (a type of Chinese cabbage), pork slices, vermicelli noodles, tomatoes, corn, egg, two types of mushrooms (enoki and king oyster), imitation crab meat, kamaboko (a cured surimi, a processed seafood), three types of fish balls (regular fish ball, golden fish ball, and Eggie fish ball), fried tofu skin, tempura, Chinese string beans, lobster ball, scallions, and pork bone soup. I got mine mild. The amount of ingredients seemed like it might overwhelm the dish, so I didn't do any add-ons. With 18 separate items in the soup, not including the broth, I wasn't sure how it would all work together. The hot pot was underwhelming. Even though there were 18 different items in the soup, there could have been just 4 or 5 for the lack of different flavor profiles. It seemed as if everything had been boiled too long and all tasted the mostly the same. For just under $20 (not including a drink or tip), I expected the hot pot to be more flavorful with more diversified flavors. Considering there isn't a readily available host or server to ask questions to and the kitschy robot server, the experience felt very impersonal and gimmicky. Some diners may enjoy the robot performance, but it didn't add to the experience for me. The food was fine, but tasted all the same; there didn't seem to be a reason for all the ingredients other than being able to list a lot. Overall, I wouldn't go back. My husband and I took our two very young children here for my birthday dinner recently. We were nervous because we've never had hot pot before and didn't know how it was going to go with our kids. They can be a handful at times. However the service and food went above and beyond all our expectations. The servers were attentive, nice, and answered all of our questions. The owners even stopped by our table to check on us during our meal. A woman I believe to be one of the owners, came by tables with small children and gave them little treats to keep them busy so parents could enjoy their meal. It was such a thoughtful and kind gesture and we really appreciated it. Food was exceptional we got the fried dumpling appetizer, Kimchi Dumpling and Sichuan hotpot's, and one kids hotpot. We got vermicelli noodles and a side of rice for our hotpot's and instant noodles for the kids. Next time we come I think we will upgrade and get the instant noodles for all our hotpot's. It was our families favorite of the three. We also ordered boba which was also delicious and great at taming the spice from the hotpot's as well. Everything about this place was exceptional. What a pleasant surprise! This location has only been open for about 6 months (at the time of this review). We stopped in, on the spur of the moment, just to check it out. It's located on Academy across from Walmart and Smiths. After chatting with Sophie (who is the owner), we ended up staying. Note: Sophie explained that "Taiwanese" food is NOT the same as "Thai" food. So, if you have never tried "Taiwanese", this is your chance. Everyone at this location is friendly and helpful. They are happy to answer questions and explain items on the menu. They make you feel so appreciated and welcomed. The entrees are served in a bowl sitting on top of an open flame. (This can be adjusted by a lever beneath the serving basket.) So no lukewarm food here. You can also choose from several different spicy levels. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. You can "customize" your order as well. They are happy to remove items you may not want from what you order. It is clear that they have set a very high standard for their food prep and for their staff. We stopped by for lunch and it wasn't that busy. They told us that they currently have more of a dinner crowd. I would highly suggest you stop by for lunch if you want a quick, easy visit. We will definitely be going back! read more
