Hard to know where to start this time. I've been to Taverna Kyma now no less than 10 times either just with my husband, with another couple or in a group. My last experience is likely to be MY LAST EXPERIENCE at Taverna Kyma. Our group of 16 dined for lunch as a birthday celebration. Service was hurried, rude, and put it in simple terms -- Our primary server seemed like we were a burden. He just wasn't a happy camper. It was suggested we eat family style, which is what we did. I'll cut to the chase here. When all was said and done, and it was time to pay, several of us still had not received our coffees or espressos. So, we waited a bit longer, and after a round was brought out the second time, there was STILL one missing. When it was time to pay, several of us had cash. We were informed, and this is a quote from our server, "If anyone wants to pay cash, it's going to add on another 30 minutes for me to split the bill." He said this in an "I can't be bothered by your table" demeanor. So, everyone used a credit card to make it easy on him. I felt like that was the theme -- to make it easy on him, not us. That's why we ordered family style -- to make it easy on him. We were apparently there to serve our server. He also made an announcement for our group, informing us that the maximum number of people he can put on one check is 6, so he couldn't just bring one check. That is WEIRD! So, we had three checks for 16 people. Further, he informed us that he could not add 20% gratuity to the checks, so we'd need to add that in. FINALLY, we got our checks, and we were charged $24.05 per person!!!!!!!!!! Yes, there were 16 of us eating LUNCH! No one drank alcohol. Most only drank water, but a few had ice tea or soft drinks. This was NUTS! After tip, this lunch cost us $28/person! Unbelievable. Because we were there in celebration of a birthday, none of us made a fuss in front of the birthday guy. We just paid up. I later sent a note to the restaurant. It's been 3 days, and no one has responded. Given the extremely poor service that was consistent throughout, and the screwed up accounting system, I can no longer recommend this place for a group. Stick to a table of 6 or less or go somewhere else. Meza (Yamato/Congress) will take care of your group nicely! read more

It bothers me that I have to update my previous review and knock this down a star, but after the world's worst service today, it's necessary. The food here is stellar. My issue and only issue is with today's service. If I decide to go back in the near future, I'll gladly adjust the rating if it warrants it but I can't be handing out stars like they're candy. Maybe the server was new but clearly he wasn't in the weeds because we were just one of four tables in the entire restaurant. We sat, we ordered, we waited. And waited and waited. We waited for that food that was sitting under the heat lamp a good 10 minutes. I was tempted to walk up and just grab our plates but the cook was kind enough to realize we were patiently waiting, so he attempted to get the waiters attention by tapping on the plates. A few more minutes go by and he realizes the guy is no use, so he walk out of the kitchen and serve us the plates himself. It's rare you ever see that, but it just goes to show the kind of neglect our waiter had for us. There was no follow-up to see if anything else was needed, not even to see if we were enjoying our food. Another waiter actually had to come and pick up our plates once we were finished. Finally, our original waiter comes and we just ask for the check. Another 10 minutes goes by while we're waiting for him to pick up the credit card. He no showed. A different waiter had to come by and take the card. What bothers me if that waiter in his mind probably thinks he deserves 20%, when in reality he doesn't deserve anything. It's not in my nature not to tip, but why should I reward incompetency? It's a shame but you can't just have great food, service is equally important. read more

This was our 2nd visit after our first visit was a debacle(waitress got our whole parties order wrong) so we decided to give it another shot. Not sure where to start but we went to dinner last night(Sunday) and it was empty except for 2-3 other tables but it still took 55 minutes to get our food which was weird, when it finally arrived EVERYTHING in the Seafood platter was over cooked and almost inedible(shrimp, calimari,lobster) were all very tough & chewy and the Gyro meat was mushy, slimy, and tasted old. We told our waitress the food was terrible and she went to get the manager(who took 15 minutes to come to the table) and he offered a 15% discount on our check even though 95% of the food was not eaten. We came for a light lunch and it was delightful. We sat at the bar and enjoyed salads and hummus. The hummus was quite amazing, warm, and flavorful. The dishes are pretty big especially for salad but it was yummy and fair in price. When we sat there we overheard the amount of reservations being called in and was amazed at how fast they booked up! This place has an absolutely incredible menu and everything I have had here has been exceptional. I have been to Taverna Kyma plenty of times and I will continue to go. While in Florida over the Thanksgiving week visiting family, someone mentioned a great Greek restaurant a few minutes away. I quickly looked it up on Yelp and the combination of my hunger and good reviews made me excited. We arrived in time to make use of the happy hour specials at the bar and were happy to find room for four (that's just the type of family we are). Bellying up, the bartendress was more than thrilled to explain any of the drinks or dishes to us and made recommendations based on our tastes and also her preferences. Before we got our drink orders we had fresh hummus and pita in front of us and it was so good that I had to be careful not to fill up on it before getting our main course. For apps we had one of the salads and an order of spanakopita, both of which were fresh and delicious. For the main courses we had the mousaka, pastitsio, and roasted lamb with lemon potatoes and veggies. Holy Greek gods. I've had plenty of Greek in my day but this restaurant takes the cake. Never had I been so full after eating Greek. It was so good that I could not stop and I probably did not need to eat for 2 days afterwards. Even though the food was fantastic, the real gem was the bartender. I do not recall her name, but she said she was from Georgia. She was one of the rare bartenders that truly love their job and did her tasks with a calculated finesse while keeping conversation flowing. Oh, and she makes a great drink, too. read more

First time diner and will be returning soon! The hummus is excellent and I had the stuffed peppers. The peppers were soft and the stuffing of ground beef and rice was very tasty. My husband had the Kyma Salad, consisting of various seafoods, and was equally happy. Main criticism was the beer selection and the haphazard service with people's food coming at different times, with mine being the last and no one would eat until all the food was delivered. Thank you Jesus! Because it was Easter my son and myself had a hankering for Greek food. We Yelped place in the Boca area and found this gem, although we didn't know it was at the time. We walked in and asked for a table which we were told there was none available, the reason being it was also Orthodox Easter. Now we where excited. We were offered seats at the bar which is my favorite spots anyway. The had the daily menu, but also a Easter menu, with many choices. Soup, greek salad, Entree choices included roast lamb, fish or chicken. We ordered some olives, feta cheese and pan roasted quail as starters. salads for the both of us along with the roast lamb. All fantastic! For desert, bakalava and greek coffee. The coffee was prepared on a Coleman Backpacking stove on the back bar. At about 8pm the lights were dimmed the music was turned up and the patrons started clapping. When we turned to face the dinning room we witnessed a belly dancer on the table behind us. When we asked the bartender if this is a regular event we were told the belly dancers were for special occasions. My son and I agreed it was our best Easter in a long time. I will be back. read more

My daughter and I stopped in for lunch 12/15/14. We were impressed with the freshness of the food. I had the lamb burger with a salad. The burger was very nice; the tzatziki sauce was very salty. My daughter had the bifteki pita with fries and a salad. She liked everything, especially the seasoning on the fries. As for the ambiance: The interior was "Greek cute" and seemingly clean with an open kitchen. The man in charge made the experience very uncomfortable. He yelled at the cooks and all servers relentlessly. The staff were very polite and professional to us, however, it was obvious that the staff were also uncomfortable. I would have felt better had he taken his servers to a private area as opposed to yelling, almost pulling us into his scolding, while we worked to enjoy our lunch. I could not recommend or return because of the discomfort throughout. I feel very saddened to post such a poor report but these reports have guided me well. read more

I'd love to give this place 4.5 stars, come on Yelp, when will that be an option!? We arrived at Taverna Kyma Saturday, February 8th with a 7:30 reservation for the belly dancing show. We were sat at our table by 7:32 - pretty impressive considering the place was as packed as it was. The manager assumed we'd want to be outside since we had our daughter with us, but once we assured him that the belly dancing show was the reason we came, he very cordially rearranged things to sit us inside. We ordered amaretto sours, (water with lemon for our five year old), tzatziki (the waiter brought us extra pita for our daughter, free of charge) and the chicken wings. We wanted to order the lamb sausage as well but they were all out. I was happily chatting with the couple next to us when my husband grabbed my arm. "BABE. YOU HAVE TO TRY THESE WINGS." When he tells me something is "the best ever" I take it pretty seriously. And indeed, the wings were DAMN good. The belly dancing show started as our entrees arrived. I had pork medallions and my husband had the lasagna. (Wish I could remember the Greek spelling!) Both were just knock your socks off good. And the belly dancer was spectacular! Everybody in the place was beaming. She spent extra time at every table, taught simple dance moves and was so genuinely in love with the dance we really felt at home with her. She spent an entire song teaching our daughter to dance, and posed for pictures after. We felt special! The only hiccup the entire evening was the waiter was not very attentive once our entrees were served. We would have ordered dessert and coffee, and probably more booze, if he had stopped by the table, but he didn't, even when I asked a few times for a water refill. We came here for a birthday on Sunday and it was wonderful!! The hummus and pita that they bring around to your table are wonderful, the pita is nice and warm and the hummus has a wonderful fresh flavor. We got some mojitos as well and they were delicious. However- the star of the show was my octopus platter. I am quite picky about my octopus and it was cooked to perfection. Most of the others had the gyro platter, and there were rave reviews all around. I'll definitely be back, and make the drive just to get that octopus. The food at this place was OK. I would give it 2 stars for food. But the service was horrible. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation time and asked if we can sit at the bar for a drink. They told us to go to the patio. We walked and to the patio and the waiter there told us to go back in and order from inside. This place was completely clueless and unorganized. The hostesses (there were two of them) could not be bother to walk us to the right place. I had to walk up to the host stand twice to ask her where we can order drinks. They finally just sat us at our table so we can order drinks and appetizers. As soon as the waiter came, we ordered two drinks and an appetizer while we waited for our friends to join us. He started pushing us to order salad and more appetizers right away. Our friends got there on time and we have been seated for about 15 minutes. They barely picked up the menu and the waiter was back asking us to hurry up and order more food. He was aggressive in rushing us to order lots of food. All night. When the first dishes arrived, he came to tell us to order more food before we even took a bite of first dishes. This happened several times and I was so annoyed, we even asked him to take it easy and if he was rushing to get home (our reservation was at 6pm). When it was dessert time, we ordered two desserts and he was being extremely pushy. He asked us--just two dessert for 4 people?!! And tried to get us to order 4 desserts and coffee. Dessert Trio Holy crap good. Only issue was with seating. We found the restaurant the same night (b/c of Yelpers!) and when called they said they were booked but if come by 7 shouldn't more than 20 minutes wait. We drove (took 30 minutes) and arrived at 7 and was told 45 minutes. After seeing how crowded it was we said ok and bellied up to the bar where we were pleasantly surprised that it was happy hour everyday til 8 p.m. That being said we noticed 'something wasn't quite right' and we went back to the very disoriented (it seemed) hostess station who told us that even though tables were available a) the kitchen was overloaded and b) they seat at 'sittings'. So if we missed the 7 p.m. seating, and they were booked up at 8 p.m., then theoretically we could be here all night! We did end up getting a table by 8 p.m., and after that they really took care of us, throwing a few dishes and dessert on the house. This whole matter is why i can't give the full 5 stars. I was looking forward to a big Greek feed an hour after getting off a plane from The Bahamas where the food was generally...um...bloody awful. I was in a five star mood. Kyma is a nice venue, the family who runs the place are very nice people with a definite desire to make their guests happy. Our young waiter was, although a little inexperienced, very attentive, courteous and efficient. A feature of Kyma is the fresh made (on the premises) pita bread and humus. It sets you up for a great meal. They don't serve non-alcoholic beer and, in my book, that's a negative. I like a good beer and I drive. There are some excellent non-alcoholic beers around these days and every restaurant should have it on the list....Again I digress. The salad was excellent. The grilled egg plant, wonderful and the lamb ribs, sensational. Kyma has the best lamb shanks and I would normally order these, but my partner urged me to try the Thallasino. "Oakey-dokey" said I..'I'll have a bash at the lobster, scallops, shrimp, mussels and calamari in the tomato, vodka and garlic sauce thingy". Well it was nice, but probably not $35 nice..and here's why. There was one scallop and it was a little tasteless. There were two shrimps and the lobster was just a little brat...far too small to be away from its Mom and Dad. There was a lot of calamari and the whole dish was surrounded by the world's smallest mussels. The maitre'd popped around to ask how things were and seeing as she asked, we informed her politely that there was a definite deficiency in the scallop department. She offered to provide more but we had eaten enough and were not angling for freebies. Anyway, she returned some time later with a scallop and a shrimp. It was a sincerely nice gesture. But the scallop was raw in the middle. Oops. However I am needs driven to tell the truth and that's how it was. But, it would be unfair to judge this excellent restaurant on this experience alone. It is a fairly expensive restaurant and the value for money is usually at the top end of the scale. I like Kyma in Boca and will go again....I salivate at the thought of the marinated shanks of the little wooly chaps.....MMMMM. read more

Tried this place with my boyfriend on Sunday afternoon because I was dying for a greek salad, and let me tell you, my craving was satisfied for a day but I want more already! I was super impressed (a lot of greek restaurants have subpar greek salads) and we loved everything we ordered as well as the hummus and bread they give for free (it was SO GOOD!). Tzatziki, fried calamari, and a whole fish that was cut for us (I don't remember the right term but they remove the bones and whatnot). The red sangria was great too and not overly sweet. Definitely recommend and we're excited to go on a night when they have bellydancers! Service was pretty quick and professional. read more

We arrived a little early for our 8:00PM reservation on a Friday night, and we were told it would just be a few minutes before we were sat, which is fine, because we wanted to hit the bar first! -- The bartender there was so nice, I wasn't sure what I wanted, he asked me what kind of drinks I liked, and said he would make me something. At around 8:00, they put on this music, and there were lights flashing everywhere, and a belly dancer came out -- how exciting that was! We were sat at 8:15 (that's alright! we were enjoying ourselves at the bar) and we were immediately greeted by our server and brought delicious fresh baked pita bread and hummus (they could get 5 stars on this alone!!) -- we had the calamari appetizer, which i appreciated, because it was more actual squid than breading. The coating was VERY light, but I enjoy that. For our entrees, I got the Gyro Platter, and my fiance got the Moussaka -- they were both FANTASTIC, and were HUGE portions, we each brought some home for lunch tomorrow. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Boca Raton. Food is fresh, healthy, and delicious. I try to hit it at least once a week. For lunch, try the Kyma Salad - my dad, when he visits, insists on coming here just for this salad. The Harvest salad with chicken is also amazing. Heaps of fresh beautiful vegetables. Also for lunch - their souvlaki and gyro platters are amazing. For dinner, the food is also outstanding. Lamb chops, tilapia, all are delicious. Just know that if you go on the weekends, you're in for loud music starting at 8PM unless you eat outside. Also note: great for parties. We did a big birthday and a work christmas party there. We chose to sit on the back enclosed patio. The noise level is still high on a Saturday evening making conversation a little difficult. Service was exemplary. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. I haven't eaten here for a while, for no particular reason, but after enjoying the meal, I will certainly not wait long before returning. Had dinner here about a month ago. Love that they bring hummus to the table in a wooden mortar and pestle. Not great hummus, but for free, good enough. Started with the prasini salad. A little salty, but good. Next had the crispy zucchini which were very thinly sliced and delicious. For dinner, I had the lamb chops which were good. They come with potatoes and stewed green beans. At this point, you're probably thinking, how did he not give them 5*. Well, the only issue with the food was that the stewed green beans were ice cold i.e. they were from a previous day and had not come up to temperature yet. Second was the overall condition of the restaurant. When we arrived, there were not a lot of cars there and by the condition of the grounds, you would think the restaurant was closed/abandoned. There is a shipping container parked near the rear entrance of the restaurant and a small stream of who knows what flowing from it into the parking lot. In the middle of the hallway inside, by the bathrooms, there was a bucket which was catching water dripping from something (a/c unit?). I recall at the time there were a couple of other things that bothered me which I have since forgotten. Fairly good food - they just need to run a better operation. read more

So my Greek coworker took some of us to this place for lunch. Yum! I really enjoyed my meal. Beware the tables are a little small, we noticed beacause all of us are tall so we were a little bit smooshed but the food was so good it didn't matter. For starters, they brought out this delicious homemade hummus with warm pieces of pita. I am sure I ate two whole pitas and could have eaten more. I also tasted the--- which before now I wasn't sure what was in there, which is like a rice mixture wrapped with grape leaves with a squeeze of lemon on top. It was tasty. As an entree I had they gyro which was also very good and it came with a sort of cold lemon potato mash, which was different but good and a salad. I was stuffed! The food is severely overpriced and the manager is cruel to his employees. We ordered perfectly cooked beef tenderloin, that came with over cooked rice and green beans drenched in lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the potatoes were undercooked. Half the meal was inedible. We watched the manager verbally degrade his employees knowing the customers were in ear-shot. Which made the lemon 'notes' more sour. Save your pocketbook, and visit the fast food Greek restaurant down the street. read more
