For those that don't know, don't let the fancy name TBK Grill - Mexican Cocina fool you. It's really just Taco Burrito King (honest - google it) with a fancy alias so they can charge more for the food. Unlike "Taco Burrito King" restaurants, the menu at TBK is extremely limited - maybe twelve items if you count chips and nachos as two separate items. No printed menus or menu board. And the inside is totally bland & boring. The cheap diner table in the booth I sat at nearly tipped over. (Not a word or offer of help from the staff which way out-numbered the patrons. Lawsuit waiting to happen.) But I don't mind eating at dives or cheap eats joints. My real issue was paying $3.25 for a single taco and $14 for a Fajita in one. If I wanted to spend that kind of money, I could go to Uncle Julio's a couple miles north and have a waiter serve me dinner while the waitress makes fresh guacamole table-side. Or I could get truly 5 star Mexican inspired meal at Wholley Frijoles, a couple miles east. But I look for authenticity & value. So I eat at "Taco Burrito King" on Touhy regularly and I've eaten at their other locations too. No place better for a late night burrito outside the city. Their food is simple but authentic and tasty. Same with TBK Grill, but with one important thing missing - the value. Personally, I will continue to drive the extra ten minutes to go to the real "Taco Burrito King" for late night snacking. And if I want a full Mexican dinner at a reasonable price/portion, there are several within 10-15 minutes of TBK's corner. My personal favorite is El Pueblito nearby on Touhy. But there's also El Sol west on Dempster, which I give four stars) and El Tipico east on Dempster (which gets three stars but is big on atmosphere.) Of course if money is really tight, like digging through the couch cushions tight, I'd just go to Taco Bell half a mile north. $14 there can feed a family of five. (Note: they don't even advertise their food as Mexican, just Mexican inspired, which is generous.) Got a full wallet with money to burn and a hankering for some Mexican Fusion? Try Yolo five minutes away on Lincoln. The bottom line is there are a lot of choices for good Mexican food in the area. So why choose a place that wants to pretend its something special and charge poser prices to prove it? PS. While on the subject, if you happen upon a Mexican restaurant in Skokie called El Fuego, I would avoid that place at all costs. Awful food at awful prices. read more

Often times when I order from TBK grill, they leave something out or get the order wrong. Today is the last time I'm ordering from there because I ordered a chicken burrito for delivery and got a FISH one instead. I hopped in my car and drove to TBK to get the chicken burrito, and they didn't say sorry...They didn't offer a partial refund...They didn't even offer me chips while I was waiting for the burrito I originally ordered. No,No,No! Under staffed, over priced, slightly better than average food. So darn disappointing! I had such high hopes for this place. I will say this though, the young lady working the register had such an outgoing and pleasant demeanor she could've sold ice cubes to eskimos. The prep stations and grill were exceptionally clean. The location itself kind of stinks because of limited parking and being on such a busy corner. However I am going to give this establishment another shot. Perhaps an entree. Great Mexican food. Their steak and shrimp entrees are far superior to any other Mexican restaurants within the surrounding area and out. The prices are a little higher than other restaurants but so is the quality. Their daily specials are definitely a bargain and the best way to go if you're looking to save a couple of bucks. This was really good food by folks who look to take pride in what they do. A nice clean dining room with a smiling cashier and a hustling kitchen. Seems like they are still finishing the final draft of this restaurant but they should be there a while if this keeps up. To put some "salsa" on the "chips" experience of TBK Grill, the food is phenomenal. The actual salsa is outstanding and the King fajita is what legends are made of. During this Pandemic you would think that if a customer comes in without a mask, they would be asked to go put a mask on. I walked in to TBK Grill in Skokie, I'll. to see two customers without mask on being served. Also the person that was pointed out as the manager is wearing a mask, only covering his mouth cooking. I prefer this location over the Touhy TBK. Only good thing about Touhy location is they are always open. This location closes pretty early however service is fast and I find their steak burritos taste better at this location. I always order a steak burrito with everything plus extra cheese and avocado! So this is my spot for when I go on my lunch break from work it's usually around 2 but today my husband asked me to have dinner with him so I asked him to pick me up and I would invite him to the spot I'm always talking about to have takeout but I guess I made the biggest mistake taking him in the afternoon the 2 lady's in the register are like day and night in the morning the lady is always making sure everything I need is in my bag and she bags my lunch so neatly and to cut this short my take out today was horrible missing my husband's tacos no silverware and my bag looked like a trash bag never again will I go after 2pm and if you people want good service I will recommend going in the mornings. read more

Wow!! Excellent service. To start Caty greeted us with a great big smile. She was happy to answer all the questions we had about the menu before we were ready to order. Excellent customer service, something that every restaurant should have. Unfortunately it is hard to find nowadays. TBK grill has it!!!! Loved the food. Man that burrito was the bomb! Restaurant is clean and modern with friendly staff. The guacamole is rather bland not helped a lot by the salsa which lacked any spicy heat. Chicken taco is made up of little hard chicken cubes, but the veggie taco was great with nicely grilled veggies. Flautus had the same chicken cubes and the shell was very crispy, somewhat overdone so like eating hard crackers. Quantity was plenty. Food was served nice and hot at the table. It is interesting that there is a breakfast menu but the place doesn't open until 10:30 am , so much for regular breakfast time. Ok im going to be as acurate as i can in writing this review. TBK Grill is a lame attempt to get the consumer in thinking this is a higher end version of Taco Burritto King. But its the same. The tacos here are 50 cents more than other TBK locations. Why pay more? Smaller place less business so food sits around longer. Guess they thought they had a master plan. Place looks nicer than other locations chrome cookware etc... but the flattop grill and pull out drawer that holds all the cooked meat is really the only thing being used. The place is very clean. The food was amazing. Fresh, flavorful, dimensional. This wasn't Mexican street food but it the heritage is there. The burritos come in three sizes....Junior, King, and Supreme (Or Megalith, or Gigantic, or something like that) The food is made to order. When the waitress brought out the burrito I thought it was a mistake. The thing was HUGE. I was assured that was the King version and so I went to work. The tortilla was cooked to perfection. The meat inside was plentiful and very tasty. I hope this place makes it. The location can seem a bit odd, but it isn't. I had no trouble getting in or out. Spotlessly clean. Great food. Overwhelming portions. Reasonable prices. For a little more money I could have gone to a downmarket burger place where everything is already cooked. I wanted fresh....and I got it. read more

The taco salad is excellent. The salsa is a bit spicy and my chips ranged from tasting very fresh to some that were stale. They just opened, so I can forgive the slow service, but it needs to improve. The parking lot is tight, so be careful backing out. read more
