We ordered the appetizer combo plate, the string bean beef and honey walnut shrimp off the lunch combination menu. The portions were huge and the food was great. The honey walnut shrimp sauce was a little too thick but still good.

This is a classic Chinese spot that's been around for ages. We got here at 6 and it was empty but around 7 it was getting crowded. Their menu is huge as you can see. It's really cheap also, even for nowadays. They have like 4 group combo platters which are pretty good too, or I presume, cuz we didn't get that. Me and my friend got combo meals for about fifteen bucks each. They gave pretty small portions of the actual dishes with huge amounts of sides of fried rice and chow mein. The sides tasted alright, just pretty fatty. Kinda bland to be honest.

I got orange chicken which was OK, and honey walnut shrimp which somehow tasted like pancakes, that was delicious. It came with hot and sour soup of the day which was...not great. Service could be slightly better, the waiter didn't...

...from greasy, the food is so good it makes up for the rude service you get, but eh at least you get fresh and tender general chicken. Definitely will reccomend this place, very affordable also, you will not be dissatisfied going here.

Downtown Sacramento is a desert for Chinese food, especially a combo plate. I hadn't eten all day, and was craving just that for lunch. I took my craving over to Yelp!, where I came across a few positive reviews for Tea Cup Café. I have not been to Tea Cup in decades! I went over to their website and found just what I was looking for, a combo plate! I placed my order, paid on their website and received an email confirmation shortly afterwards. 15 minutes later I arrived, was greeted by a nice lady who had my $15. Mongolian Beef Lunch Special waiting for me. I asked for hot oil, and went on my way to work, When I got back to my office I opened the bag right away, and was so happy to find an eggroll. I ate the eggroll first, and it was decent. The Mongolian beef was stir-fried with charred red chilies, white, and green onions. and came with chicken fried rice, and chicken chow mein. At first glance, the noodles, and rice had good portions, but the Mongolian beef seemed to be mostly onions. I went in for a piece of the Mongolian beef first, it was tasty, but slightly salty. After my 1st bite of beef I realized that there was plenty of beef under the onions. Then I tried the noodles, and rice, both were good and had a decent amount of chicken in them. I added soy sauce, and hot oil to the noodles, and rice. I never finish my combo plates, but I was so hungry and ate the whole thing! I typically do not comment on parking, but since another Yelper said there was no parking I wanted to add there is a parking lot with plenty of parking on the side, and rear of the restaurant through the alley. If you live, work, or happen to be downtown, give them a try.

3.75 stars.. came here on Mother's Day! Took awhile to get seated. The service was just not good. It was also very loud. It took ages to even get water. I will say the food was good! I feel like I would only come back if I got takeout!

Dim Sum Served All Day!! Hubby, our toddler and I enjoyed the Har Gow, Shanghai Dumpling and Egg Tart! My favorite was their delicious egg tart! This is a small, veteran-owned business with nice staff, cute fish tank and plenty of nice seating areas for big parties! 4/5 stars overall for food and service! I even ran into the owner of Uptown Takeout I'll have to try next! SYOY! :D

Tea Cup Cafe is a great spot for dim sum and Cantonese dishes. They offer a large selection of items including dim sum all day long. There are some items that are only made on the weekends, and you'll want to check out their specials to see if anything appeals to you. This is one of the few restaurants in Midtown that has parking, which makes it a great spot to visit with your friends and family. They have smaller tables as well as large tables with the lazy susans. My recommendation is to order a bunch of dishes to share family style because there's a lot to love. On our recent visit we ordered the green beans, har gow, shu mai, potstickers, bbq pork puns, sesame balls, sesame balls with egg yolk, xiao long bao, and pork dumplings. It was a lot of food and we ended up eating our fill and still taking home a lot of leftovers. My favorites were the potstickers, green beans, and shu mai. They're open seven days a week for lunch and dinner (brunch on the weekends) and I think we'll be stopping in again soon.

I came here for lunch one day and it was very busy, especially on weekends and holidays. We ordered a variety of dim sum and non dim sum items. Everything is made in house and fresh daily which is really nice. It's a small family owned business, and service sometimes can be a bit slower during when it's really busy. We ordered the Classic dim sum dishes such as har gow, siu mai, chicken feet, beef tripe, egg tarts and another pastry I've never seen before - a fried dough with some cinnamon in it. All the dim sum was delicious. We also got some beef stir fried noodles which had lots of flavor. Also tried their Singapore noodles and orange chicken (not pictured), very good flavor. Overall, nice dim sum place and will come again. Parking can be a difficult since they have a small lot.

A locally owned family restaurant offering very tasty dim sum, dumplings, and small bites. Beyond the dim sum menu, a complete menu is offered to fulfill your cravings. Service is quick and the staff very friendly and attentive. Tables and chairs are plentiful. The restaurant appears to be well kept.

I was so hungry and craving dim sum, so I ordered some har gow and lo mai gai for pick-up. The har gow was good, but the lo mai gai was underwhelming. I wasn't a huge fan of the filling and it didn't have that deep earthy flavor cooked into it (which is arguably the best part of lo mai gai).

In a nutshell; has one of the best egg tarts I've ever had in recent times, good food overall Parking is a pain though considering it is downtown area, they have a small lot for parking next to the building but I'm sure that may get filled up in busy times. The food, dim sum, and egg tarts were all great. Servers were all accommodating. Place has a lot of tables and can sit a number of parties. Designed like most dimsum places. Wow! I'd spent ages searching for a place that serves good jya jee gai in the Sac area and was pointed towards this place by a few friendly souls online. My expectations were on the lower side, as it's definitely hard to find that dish these days, but this place blew them out of the water. We rolled up to a mostly empty restaurant and were seated and served almost immediately. The inside is on the sparse side, but is clearly well loved and maintained. We ordered the jya jee gai, house special chow mein, the steamed cha siu bao, and the xiao long bao. All the dishes came out quickly and were all decently good, but the jya jee guy was by far my favorite. It was not too greasy, with the perfect mix of special salt and tasted just like I remember. I'm so glad I finally found somewhere I can trust to make it.

We just don't have enough Dim Sum so when we are traveling it is always a stop I look for! We walked in and were greeted immediately and taken very good care of. It is a comfortable restaurant and somewhere you can easily relax, which is just what we needed. We loved everything we tried honestly but some notable ones were certainly the Lotus Rice, Chive Dumplings and Egg Tarts. The Sesame Balls were also standout, they were very clearly freshly made and piping hot! We were just absolutely blown away with how wonderful everything was. Another winner in my book!

I have been here several times. I'm up and down about this place but still keep eating here. Frustrating when they are busy, service somewhat lacking and they don't seem to fazed that I am frustrated. When they are slower, great place to eat in peace and have a great conversation if desired. Food is steady. I think it's the most consistent Chinese cuisine in town. The dim sum is good. The meat and veggies are great Oddly enough the rice and noodles, easiest to prepare, are mediocre. Prices are good....nothing flashy here....just consistency.

We drove to Sacramento in search of dim-sum for lunch. We arrived at Tea Cup Cafe just as the restaurant's "OPEN" sign flickered on. There were three other cars waiting in the parking lot and when we entered the restaurant, the proprietress warmly greeted us; our 5-person party was easily accommodated at a corner table. The restaurant was modestly decorated but everything looked neat and orderly. We placed our food orders as soon as the nice lady dropped off our drink orders; from the regular Chinese menu we ordered 2 house fried rice, half an order of roast dick and walnut shrimp. From the dim sum menu we ordered: shumai, Shanghai dumplings (Xiaolongbao), fried shrimp balls, fried chicken wings, scallion pancake, salt & pepper chicken wings, lobster turnovers, and potstickers. The service was fast and efficient; the lady and gentlemen brought out all our orders with lightning speed and every item we ordered was well peppered and expertly seasoned. We especially liked the chicken wings and walnut shrimp, they were so crunchy but lightly battered, it was like biting into a cloud. We also enjoyed their scallion pancake; it was so light and crisp. The roast duck and fried rice were scrumptious. The fried shrimp balls is one of my favorite dim-sums; theirs had a crunchy exterior and soft, bouncy interior. The shumai was delicious and potstickers were thickk (with two k's). Everyone enjoyed our meal, we ate as much as we could but we had plenty of food leftover to make two entire meals. Aside from the food, when I paid for our meal, I miss-calculated the total; overpaying by $40. The cashier came back to our table, informed me of my error and corrected my receipt; if that isn't an example for the exemplary customer service, I don't know what is. Overall, we had a pleasant meal: the service was superb, the food was tasty and best of all, we felt welcomed-- we ate our meal languidly; we were all completely relaxed and jovial during the meal. Our group had such a good time, we're already planning a return trip.

Take out for New Year's Eve Party - We ordered several trays of food from Tea Cup. Several weeks later, multiple people have asked where we got the food for that party. We ordered BBQ pork chow mein, braised tofu & veggies, and chicken fried rice in party trays. I was out of town for ordering, but it was easy to do by phone and the staff was helpful. They called before to reconfirm the pick up time, and everything was hot and ready to go when we picked up, wrapped well and provided to us in cardboard boxes for the car ride home. I swear this place NEVER disappoints! I placed an order for delivery and received it within 26 mins. Food was hot AND fresh. Courteous staff and amazing food. I'm a picky eater and love no veggies or meat in my chow mein and they never make me feel like it's an issue to cater to my preference. The honey walnut shrimp is to die for and I order extra walnuts for a $2 charge and they give me a ton. I hope I never move out of their delivery area because this place is truly irreplaceable! read more

Tasty, efficient and inexpensive. I enjoy the pleasant service and the good food. The parking lot holds a lot of cars and there's always street parking too. I've never had a problem with parking at this place. There is a wide variety of food options at this restaurant with family style, combo meals and a la cart. I like the dim sum too, even though, with dim sum, the options are limited. This place is not pricey at all. In fact, I find it to be the best deal in town. read more

Buyers beware! Not only were these "workers" the most unhelpful people around, all they did was stare at you the whole time. At about 15 minuets of being sat, only then did someone rush us into taking our orders, meanwhile I'm confused what the rush was about at 12:20 when they were only open for an hour... But even if I ignored that, the food was generally really volatile. The beef wonton soup's broth not only had no flavour, but almost tasted as if they used their dirty dish water. All of the meat in the soup was really chewy and gelatinous, and after all the turns of event, the bathroom had pee and hair everywhere... take this as you will but I am in no way recommending it. read more

Got delivery on a Saturday morning through Yelp. Estimated time for food to be delivered was 45 mins to an hour but it only took around 30 mins which was impressive. Ordered chicken feet, sui mai, chicken chow mien and chicken fried rice. Food was still hot and fresh and they made sure to pack in extra utensils and soy sauce. The portion size was decent for the rice and chow mien. My classmates and professor enjoyed it and complimented the food, so I'll take it as it was delicious! I'd definitely order from here again whenever we have another potluck. Reason why I put 4 stars is because I wasn't a huge fan of their sui mai; it's not authentic tasting for me compared to other places I've tried and it was really tiny. read more

"H"orrible definitely not coming back ...the worst take out I have ever had in my life. Not exaggerating when I say I had to chew threw the "tempura batter" to get to the shrimp and when you got there, wasn't tasty or anything . Took back to restaurant as they suggested and when we got there " they asked where the food was?" I had a very good experience at Tea Cup Cafe. Ask for Rose, the owner. She's really nice. Rose's husband was a chef in San Francisco for years. We had soy sauce chow mein and oyster sauce Chinese broccoli. I took out tofu skin rolls, (delicious) cha siew bows (very tasty), and beef brisket (lacking a little beef but lots of collagen brisket). All very good. I plan to go back again. read more

I have been on a real dumpling kick lately. I have my ride or die dumpling place but its a far drive from midtown. Then I remembered that there is a dumpling place right by my house! I made the mistake of ordering and waiting around for my food. That took nearly 30 minutes and was a pain to wait around. I would suggest to call in ahead! The food was good, but quite hit or miss. All of the dumplings that were fried were very greasy. The oil tasted kinda of funky and old. The fresh dumplings were better, but the meat inside seemed like low quality. If I am craving dumplings and in a rush, this will do but I think I will stick to driving out to my favorite place. read more

Yes, they are still open during COVID! There aren't many places around Sacramento that offer dim sum, but this I consider authentic. Friendly service, wide variety of dim sum options, and fresh tasting ingredients! My favorites were the siu mai, shrimp har gow, and lobster ball! My brother had a prior bad experience of dim sum from a different place but was hooked once I told him to try the dim sum from this place. Will definitely come again read more

They got a little better from my last order. The prices are still really good compared to the other places Downtown. It depends on the type of food you get that will make or break your day. I ordered a chicken dish and it was good. My day went well. I recently ordered their Singapore Style Chow Fun, about 20 minutes after eating it my stomach started to feel terrible. I had to go to the local drug store to buy some medicine... as you would have guessed this made my work day a nightmare until I was able to go home and rest. read more

My mom really enjoyed it. We had house fried rice, house chow mein, beef broccoli, sweet and sour pork, and sizzling rice soup. Everything was really flavorful and we took home crazy leftovers. This was my first time dining in. Usually, a group of 12 of us will order out for delivery. read more

I always order the Hong Kong family dinner with a few substitutes. Their hot and sour soup, honey walnut shrimp, and chicken chow mein are very delicious. Their service and delivery is quick as well. I usually have my food delivered in 45 minutes. They have an amazing staff who always go above and beyond for their customers. read more

I cannot come up with a single thing that is not awesome in this restaurant. We had a lunch special and the potstickers. This is the kind of old school, Chinese place that I am always looking for and, sadly, are becoming harder to find. I can't recommend this place enough. Super clean restaurant, and the food is fresh and super heavy. read more

Singapore Street noodles is one of my favorite dishes, but I don't order it all the time because it's not always made to my liking. I took a chance here and I'm so glad I did. First of a huge portion, and the flavors are soooo good and balanced. The pork in the dish was so good I had to put my fork down and take a moment to savor it. Definitely will be coming back to try more dishes! read more

Disgusting!!! My co-workers talked me into ordering from here today for lunch. I am not a big fan of Chinese food but they were ranting and raving about how good it was, so I said let me give it a try. I ordered chicken w/broccoli and fried rice. When the order got here, i was presented with a plate of watery broccoli and white meat, I presumed to be chicken. It did not look cooked at all and there was no fried rice. When my co-worker called to have the order re-made, she was told rice didn't come as a lunch special, but i never asked for a 'special' . They offered to remake it and deliver in 15minutes, which they did, but as you can see the chicken still looks gross (uncooked and bland) and I refuse to eat it. No more jumping on the work lunch bandwagon for me! read more

First and foremost I haven't had this place while I wasn't high so my tastebuds are just based off of a blunt and me wanting something nearby. But anyhow like usually I'm quite picky, I dont trust to many hole in the walls especially downtown, But let me tell u know idk if the weed I smoked made it taste how it did but lord, that food taste like the Pope, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus himself bless this food. It's so fresh and the fried rice was far from greasy, the food is so good it makes up for the rude service you get, but eh at least you get fresh and tender general chicken. If you need a dim sum fix, you may leave disappointed. The food we ordered was mediocre at best. The dumplings were decent but the gai lan was over cooked and mushy and the pan fried/deep fried options were greasy. The other non-dim sum options may be better. read more

Under new owners the quality of food has declined drastically. They might have the same cooks but they're using different ingredients, different recipes. I've been back two separate times since the change, ordered different foods, and was disappointed both times. I will not go back again read more

We used to come here all the time, but we haven't been here for quite awhile. They had these $18.88 or other meal deals that ended in .88 long ago and it would be like several dishes and we'd add a fried rice or maybe the rice was even included. It was a very good deal. Now we haven't been here in a long time so I'm not sure they still have family style menus to choose from but overall the food is solid and the portions are fair. The service is usually pretty good. They check on you enough but not too much. The place is kind of a bit run down and could stand to have some updating, but all in all, it's a good place for a casual family style Chinese lunch or dinner. read more

I've held many strong beliefs in my life. About politics, religion, you name it. And I've never been wrong about any of them. Until now. I had always believed that real dim sum has to come from carts, with a woman yelling in cantonese about the contents, and if you didn't speak cantonese she'd have to grudgingly lift the lid so you could quickly decide if you wanted it. Even when she lifted it, it's dim sum so you probably don't know what's inside, but it's going to be shrimp or pork, flip a coin. So I don't know why you asked to see it in the first place, just put it on your table and be surprised. But now I realize that ordering dim sum from the menu is better. There are descriptions and it comes out hotter. The prices are listed too, if you care about that. You don't get any of that with carts. This place doesn't have carts. It has menus. And it has dim sum on weekdays. Never let anyone say I couldn't admit when I was wrong. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for years. When my parents visit, we go to Tea cup house for Dim Sum. Very authentic food that comes out hot and fast. The food is very well priced and extremely delicious. Compared with my experiences in other places at San Francisco, Houston, and Dallas, Tea Cup is a well kept secret especially in midtown Sacramento. The staff are kind and helpful. This is my go-to Chinese spot! Husband and I always order combo A, which you can have all chow Meiji or half fried rice. I get all chow mein because... carbs! The combo also comes with honey walnut shrimp and orange chicken. It's the perfect combo!!! We also LOVE their shrimp wonton soup! If you spend over 20$, they will deliver locally for free. Their food tasted great, although sometimes I add soy sauce for more salt. They are also super fast with delivery! Win-win! read more

Supposed be Chinese food! My first writing, it had RED RESTAURANT RATE! Okay, so recently in Sacra, staying at Sacra hotel you knowing where you knowing when you knowing who! Club Level still closed thank to Mister Corona Virus! Hey Mister Corona Virus, irridicate yourself, no one wants you around at all anymore! The Guest Service person calls! No recording, just rings and rings! Is this place I guessing closed because of Mister Corona Virus? If is Chinese food, someday Tiger wants try, I guess at least for now temporary closed down! I do know it has lunch specials, the Guest Service person on computer look at menu! It has lunch specials think Mondays to Fridays 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.! I just can't with this place anymore. For the last year solid (at least) they have been going way downhill as far as service and quality of food. They do crap like, if you order the exact same meal for delivery, they will give you a different amount each time. Customer service is nonexistent at best, incredibly rude at worst. The food has steadily gone from flavorful and tasty to salty, fatty, and disgusting. Today I got BBQ pork fried rice to go and asked them to add shrimp. Literally every other fried rice I've had ever includes a couple veggies like peas and carrots. The rice was just a congealed glop of shit with visible patches of sticky white rice, some small, rubbery shrimp, and only a few edible bits of pork. No veggies except for a few wilted bits of cabbage that look like discarded garnish. Just...no. They are rude, the quality of the food is terrible, and I don't think we will ever be back. You are literally better off just going to Panda Express. If anyone has a recommendation for good Chinese in Midtown, holler at your girl. read more

Based on those menu prices, the $30 combo did not seem to offer good value and felt significantly overpriced. I would definitely recommend the restaurant for its food, but I also recommend checking the menu prices before accepting any off-menu or verbally recommended specials so you know exactly what you're paying for.

About 10 or so years ago, they changed ownership or rather they went through what seems like several changes and then they became Lucky Jade which is kind of a chain but not exactly. I recall at one time, the workers wear shirts that look kind of like uniforms with another store's name on the back with address and phone numbers, so apparently Lucky Jade is owned by people who also own a few other Chinese restaurants but not by the same exact name. In any case, Chinese food can be pretty formulaic, so it's not really that hard to have consistency as long as the cooks know how to make common standard dishes, the taste generally would not be too different. This is true for Lucky Jade. We had take out recently and got a chow fun, a chow mein, and a broccoli beef. The first was quite tasty, on the oily side but I've not found any place able to make it not too oily and still yummy so it's necessary for this dish. Then there's the chow mein, this one was not good. Kind of non descript and the oil tasted oil (reused). Not too greasy which is my biggest complaint of chow mein from elsewhere like New Lai Wah, but again, this did not taste fresh. Finally, the broccoli beef was overcooked. Broccoli was not quite mushy but almost, still a little bit of crunch but you can see they were turning yellow. And the beef was so chemically tenderized (hopefully only with baking soda and not worse) bc it was also almost mushy. Wasn't cheap either, but on par with other Chinese restaurants around here for take out. I think I'll just tell my in laws they can just order from Bel Air Hot Chinese food deli on Florin Rd which is in the same plaza and they'd pay less and the food would actually taste better with fresher oil (probably not reused) and better quality beef that doesn't need to be tenderized to a questionable quality. Overall, not too good.

First of all, I should say that I have never actually stepped foot into the Tea Cup house. Because I'm lazy and I enjoy eating my chinese food with a side of sweat pants. My only experience with Tea Cup is ordering food to be delivered and based solely on that experience, I am a raving fan. Tea Cup is very likely going to turn me into a hermit, my only contact with the outside world being the friendly delivery man with squeaky breaks that delivers my saturday night usual. Tea Cup is perfect for what it is. It is good, cheap chinese food. Is it going to change your life? Probably not. But it is loyal, dependable and comforting. We've tried a few different things on the menu and have narrowed down our order to a few favorites. String beans with garlic sauce. They are flavorful and never overcooked. They aren't listed on the delivery menu, but I have found they'll do basically anything you ask for. My husband loves their general chicken. I feel neutral about it, but since I hog all of the string beans, he's entitled to his own order of general chicken. I wouldn't do the chow mein, but we love the pan fried noodles with vegetables. The mongolian beef is also delicious. They always deliver in under the time they quote. The delivery service is reliable and quick and FREE with a purchase of $20 or more. This place is very aesthetically pleasing :) I got the matcha milk tea with matcha pudding and lychee jelly, less sugar (75%) and it was goood ! I also tried the Hokkaido black milk tea, also very good. I recommend getting the large size instead of the regular size ! It's only 2$ more read more

This restaurant is a family favorite. The food is consistently good, excellent selection and very reasonably priced. We order off the small menu which allows us to try a variety dishes. My daughter loves the lemon grass pork chops! read more

The driver did not deliver the Dr. Peppers. We called to complain. They sent the driver back with the goods in hand. We are pleased. The hot and sour soup is not bad. I like fortune cookies. Even when they are stale. read more

This is such a sweet little place in Sacramento. It's a little bit crowded and disorganized, which is why I'm not giving it five stars, but the tea is beautiful and there is a lovely feeling of calm. read more

Went to the Tea Cup Cafe for dinner tonight, 3/29/10....RED TAG, CLOSED BY THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. The notice cited RODENTS AND INSECTS!!!! Yikes, won't be eating at this place again. read more

Good dumplings. Great lunch special, especially if eating in (tea and soup included) around $7-8. Loved the general chicken. Do NOT get the cashew chicken. read more

lol, I've had almost every Chinese in sac and this is the worst besides bel air Chinese food. chow mein is pretty good but everything else is God awful. read more
