Dad has been in a nearby rehab for a while and we have been eating dinner at Teddy's quite a bit. Friendly place. Friday night offers live music. A real local place where seemingly everyone knows each other. Patty Melt is excellent, as is their Chicken Salad. Soup offered with most meals. Chicken noodle is unique with chopped zucchini. Burger was ok, cooked to all hell but the bacon quality was very nice. It was served plain, no lettuce/tomato/onion, so a bit boring. The cuban sandwich was on the strangest bread I've ever had a sandwich on, and even though the pork was good, they forgot the pickle in the sandwich. This is like a weird take on a cuban. After months of being home with the pandemic, we ventured out to Cranbury, NJ....a charming town, we've never been to since we've been in NJ our entire lives. Yelp reviews brought us to Teddy's, since there was outdoor seating, in the shade, on the sidewalk. There was one server, for everyone. She was wonderful, considering her tasks and responsibilities. We both ordered sandwiches, simple and easy. First came a cup of delicious soup. The Chicken salad and sliced turkey sandwiches were fresh, huge and served with delicious fries. Everything about our adventure to Cranbury was delightful. We will definitely return to Teddy's. read more

I think it becomes a 4-5 star after you go there for about 25 years. The kind of place the townies go and talk politics and sports. If it's your first time just another greasy spoon. Not particularly clean, not particularly friendly,with basic food that's good enough to eat. I asked for bacon and eggs on a hard roll the eggs scrambled soft with a side of well done home fries. The server came back 10 minutes later and asked me if I wanted a sandwich. The eggs were cooked fine with plenty of bacon. For some reason they toasted the hell out of a hard roll. Anyone living above the Mason-Dixon Line knows you don't toast a hard roll. Unless is it stale? They tried to make the home fries well but came up short. I figure home fries are supposed to have some taste. A little salt- pepper- onions- and if you really want to go over the top a touch of bacon fat. They were par boiled- sliced then fried for 93 seconds, maybe 97. Now it isn't a bad place and good if you just want to get unhungry. But nothing special. read more

Teddy's is an institution in the Princeton area. It's located in Cranbury nestled somewhere between route 1 and the NJ turnpike. My experience was warm, nostalgic and, well, tasty. Though, it embraces an ambiance fitting for a historian, they caters to low carb/speciality diets such as mine. The egg white omelette I had tasted like something my grandparents would cook for me. I cheated, I also tasted the potato salad. You could almost imagine the recipe was handed down from generations ago. Food and all culinary arts is my passion and hobby. I've been coming to Teddy's for quite some time, I've never had anything short of a good experience from the staff to the food to the owner. The menu has anything and everything you could ask for and if it's not on the menu you can be sure they will prepare whatever you like. The staff is very friendly and go above and beyond for the customer. The owner is one of the kindest people I've ever met, he makes sure everyone feels welcome and always has a friendly smile to greet you. Came here today for late breakfast with my husband and daughter we are from New York so we took a short trip to take our daughter up to six flags . Came in this and there was no hostess or anything. Waited 5 minutes and finally a lady said to sit anywhere. Then a kid came and brought the drinks . The server barely spoke English he took the orders with my husband repeating at least 4 times. Chad visiting from out of town and came here for a quick breakfast. It a really cute local spot. You feel like your are going back in time when you walk in here. Old photos on the walls and a diner feel. The staff is nice, but also a little slow but we weren't in a rush. There menu is super big and the food is really delicious. The breakfast food here is delicious! I had the french toast which came with a great cinnamon and sugar toping. The bacon on the side was perfect. It was nice and crispy and not too fatty. I hear it's been here forever and you'll frequently see Teddy the man here. And I'm told if you're a breakfast regular and you don't show up Teddy will actually call you to make sure you're ok. Loved it. Stopped on my way passing thru driving from NY to DC. Delivered a fine breakfast (mushroom & Swiss omelette, one of my staples). The execution of the food was great (nicely done omelette, plenty of Swiss, good home fries, lots of butter on English muffin). The real surprise was how amazingly cute the place was (def a small town diner), and how totally small the check was - my meal and coffee for $8.50. Wow. The town is super small town as well ... driving out, lots of local cops stationed at each of the crosswalks making sure the kids WALKED to school safely. I don't understand all the glowing reviews of this place...maybe a lot of friends of the owners? Went here this morning for breakfast. Between my husband and I, we had scrambled eggs, an overeasy egg, pancakes, bacon, gravy fries and toast. The eggs and pancakes were just OK. Nothing great. Fries and gravy were below average and the bacon was definitely not fresh. It seemed like it was sitting around for hours before they served it. I get Karmel's puzzlement regarding the massively positive reviews of Teddy's. The food is standard but nothing to write home about, the service is just ok and the coffee is actually pretty bad. But Teddy's has a good vibe. It feels like the type of place that has a lot of history to it, and in a town like Cranbury it fits in pretty perfectly. They also don't try to push you out the door. I've been there before just reading for a while and hanging out and no one has given me a hard time about it. If you're looking for good eats the pizza place a few stores down is incredible. But if you're looking for a place to hang out and just get a feel for the town that houses the best used bookstore in the world, you're in the right place. read more

Teddy's is one of the least enjoyable brunch experiences I've had and I'm really disappointed that I made the drive to Central NJ for it. I recommended this spot as a result of all the positive Yelp reviews, but both my friend and I agreed that there will not be a return trip in the future. The waitress was borderilne-rude to us, the food was only passable and bottom-line, this isn't the experience other Yelpers reported. I ordered a Vegetable Omelet with Egg Whites (with Multigrain Toast on the side). It was all right enough that I took a few bites of the food, but I was not impressed. I saw that the multigrain toast only tasted good because the melted butter was generously slathered on. My friend also said that his pancakes were very mediocre ... so we kind of just pushed our food around our plates while enjoying one another's company. Teddy's does have a homey feel to it - as though it has been around for many years, it's a local's spot, etc. Maybe others come for that because they've been coming for a long time and have been riding the changes along with the restaurant. To be honest, I have no idea how this place is so highly rated. I waited over a half hour now for my food and the coffee is absolutely terrible. There are people who came in after me -like 20 minutes after me- who were served before me. I ordered the creamed chipped beef. I was surprised to see it was not served on the toast. That would be ok, except the toast was heavily buttered. The result is, of course, that the dish becomes to salty from the butter. And that is ignoring the fact that I am now eating cream with butter. The home fries were pretty good, but I wish there were more. I was never offered water. The whole experience was just disappointing. There is really no reason for me to come back, not with better options right on Main Street. read more

We tried this place after a year of living in the immediate area. Some people swear by this place. We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were seated right away. Three different people tried to take our drink order before DW settled on an egg cream and I just got water. It's great they have egg creams and DW's came out good, but it hey had to ask around to find a staff member who knew how to make one. I ordered a corned beef omelette with egg whites. DW ordered eggs over easy with sausage links. We both got rye toast. They would not substitute anything for the home fries. Food came out quickly. DW's eggs were cooked properly but the plump sausage links were mediocre. The corned beef was good in my omelette. The rye bread and the home fries were serviceable.
