Ted's is a Buffalo staple and an excellent way to get a taste of summer any time of the year without having to fire up your grill. I would recommend pretty much anything on the menu. It's mostly simple summer fare, hot dogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches. The fries shouldn't be missed, although I know a few people who swear by the onion rings. Luckily they allow you to get a half and half at little or no extra charge. They also have a number of other sides like the Mac and Cheese or potato salad that are solid. This place is always a good choice when craving a nice Sahlens Hot dog! They have plenty of options to create a dog to your liking. The reason for the four and not five is because of the extras they do. They have this thing called a sea dog and I tried it. It's not worth the money and the tartar sauce is really gross. I think a place like this when they do extras like this its where they end up slacking. Don't venture unless your going to give it your best and they miss with the sea dog. Ted's is an institution! The hot dogs and fries are the core of the whole chain. I advise customers to speak up. The staff is prone to mistakes on orders due to the noise, and the cramped quarters at this location. This makes it difficult at times to place an order. So, speak up if they appear to be getting your order wrong. Some of the newer locations are better than this one. I love Ted's. Always have, always will. The food will always get 10 stars, the 1 star is for the service received on 6/8/2018. If I could do minus 10 stars, I would. We ordered a chicken sandwich, hot dogs, and fries. When we got the fries, they were cold and old so we asked for another order. The replacement order was also cold and literally unappealing so we, very nicely, asked if we could wait for a fresh order. Yolanda, who was running the cash register, went to Mary, who was making fries and shakes, said something, they laughed in our faces and then Mary came over, and basically forcefully threw the fries on the tray... both annoyed because we asked for hot fries. I'm sorry Yolanda and Mary, we paid for fries, we'd like to enjoy them. Shouldn't be a problem but for these two, clearly, it was. Rude and unprofessional. Yolanda was also rude to an elderly man behind us, who commented on her attitude as we all walked out. When you work with the public, you sometimes have to suck it up and smile, not laugh at, your customers. If you don't like being in the service industry, there are other things to do, like being behind the scenes. As many times as I've been to this location, this is literally the first time I've encountered such unprofessional and abhorrent behavior. They definitely won't prevent me from coming back but it's important for people to know when they make a visit unpleasant but there is always room for improvement. We was craving hot dogs, and this place came on gps. Crowd came in right after we ordered. Staff got overwhelmed and kept asking what we ordered. I got a foot long hotdog with chili, cheese and a small fry, and also a milkshake. I could've passed on the shake. Hot dog was ok, but could have passed on the chili. I grew up on Buffalo's lower West Side around the corner from where the original Ted's Hot Dogs was located on Porter Avenue near the Peace Bridge so Ted's was always a nice treat for me and still is! Let's just put it this way, I've tried hot dogs from other places and I'm always extremely disappointed with them. There's no place quite like Ted's! A couple years ago I went to Ben's Chili Bowl in Washington DC as per Man vs. Food and I left thinking, "Damn, I miss Ted's!" Then, I went to Cincinnati and tried a Skyline Hot Dog and I was like, "Eww what is this trash!?! These people desperately need some Ted's in their life!" Maybe my opinion is bias but you go to Ted's and try a dog and tell me yourself what you think, I'm pretty sure their dogs will steal the show compared to anywhere else you're accustomed to going for a hot dog! Oh, and by the way, just order a foot long dog, you're going to want more than a regular trust me. So... One time, I ordered 3 foot longs and my company and I all wanted cheese and chili on our dogs. I felt like I paid an arm and a leg for the extra toppings on each dog. Found out that you could ask them to give you a side of cheese and a side of chili for less. One side of each can top 3 foot longs or be used to eat with your fries. Ask for a side of it and save money! They use to have a fried fish filet sandwich served in a burger bun. The filet has changed and it's now served in a foot long bun and it's not as good. Don't order it. I just had the jumbo all-beef hotdog from here. Knowing it was a small Buffalo chain I really wanted to like it more, perhaps I just don't like hotdogs as much as the others on here. The hotdog was a good size, filled me more than expected and I did like the charcoal grilled flavored. I wish it had been cooked longer to give it the corresponding consistency because this felt as squishy as hotdogs cooked the standard way. What's there really to say about Ted's? It's kind of an icon. It isn't necessarily my favorite place to get a burger but it probably wins out for hot dogs. The fries are okay. Most of the time they come out piping hot at this location, which I am definitely a huge fan of. Not a huge fan of loganberry. It's like drinking syrup. (I mean, I guess that's what it is but... I was expecting more after the hype.) Even when the line is long, things usually move pretty quickly. There is plenty of seating inside, as well as seating outside. I love hot dogs more than I should, and Ted's is the best around. They have recently expanded their menu and can top your hot dogs and burgers with crazy toppings like Mac and cheese, onion rings, etc. I love their teds sauce (kind of like hot sauce) and their split, which is a good size order of 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings is perfect. They also have teddy bars for dessert which is a fudge dipped delicacy of ice cream. This location has outdoor seating in the rare summer months. They have two food lines when ordering to speed up the process. The food is consistently delicious. They usually even have coupons of some sort for free food items. This was my first time eating at a Ted's Hot Dogs location since moving to Buffalo and I might get crucified for this but I wasn't super impressed. We went last night (Memorial Day) and the line was super long because American's love to eat hot dogs and hamburgers on holidays like this (totally not complaining about the line, it's expected!). I decided to go with a footlong hot dog, a hamburger, and we split a mixture of onion rings and french fries. I enjoyed the hamburger for what it was and the same can be said about the hot dog, neither were anything special but they sure did the trick. I really liked the french fries as thin cut are my personal favorites, but I was a little let down by the onion rings, I can't pinpoint why but they just weren't as tasty as I had hoped. Overall, I'll probably end up back at Ted's in the future but I might have to try some other places first. read more

I finally got the chance to stop here for a hot dog since moving to Buffalo. It was a hot day, I wanted a hot dog. I came here on Memorial Day so the line was crazy long. They were running a Memorial Day special where a portion of the money spent of food would go to benefit Veterans. I love it. I ordered a hot dog, fries and onion rings. The hot dog was exactly what I wanted. The fries were fantastic as well. I think next time I would avoid the onion rings because I didn't love them. They have a flaming hot charcoal grill there in house, and you can watch the sausage crisp up before your eyes. Lee and I decided to go for footlongs, long and lean and tasty. I went for a simple kraut and mustard, Lee went with the full chili dog experience. We also got a side of fries and rings, which is a great idea: all places that serve both fries and onion rings should offer both. Our dogs were tasty and had a great snap when you bite into them. The flavor is that perfect char without too much burnt bits. The fries are thin, and the onion rings are of the onion straw variety and both are very very delicious. I loved my dog, and so did Lee. The one thing I will warn you about - if it is busy, best to stand back (not be in line) look at the menu, watch others order and when you are ready - jump in line and be ready to move quick. You can have Hot Dogs anyway you like - grilled is best. Burgers are equally good and the fries - the best. Menu is simple, but the 'dogs' are best. Get what you want on it - but be quick and clear, they move fast. Once you make it through the ordering experience - when you get your food, go and sit and enjoy. Experiment and try a few different ways of enjoying your dog. The bread and condiments are fresh and are perfect for the way you like it. Perfectly cooked Sahlen's hot dogs made right before your eyes, Ted's is the place for char-broiled goodness in Buffalo. I've been going to Ted's all my life and miss it almost as much as Wegmans now that I'm no longer in Buffalo. It was always amazing as a kid watching them cook the dogs and burgers right in front of you, and the novelty has never worn off in the following years. Everything comes out perfectly cooked and dressed with whatever you want on you're hot dog or burger. They have a hot sauce that perfectly blends sweet and spice and a chili that plays very well with the Buffalo-prided Sahlen's hot dogs. They have great fries, not as thick as fast food fries so they have a good bit of crispiness to them and onion rings that have more of a crispy shell than a coating of dough. I always get one order of each to accompany my two hot dogs and cup of Loganberry. It's Buffalo through and through, you have no reason not to go to this place (minus obvious dietary restrictions) if you are in the area and hungry for a great typical American summer meal. Toppings girl totally clueless. I had to repeat myself multiple times and she still couldn't get it right. How hard is it to remember everything with extra pickle and onion? Then same thing for the next one means "same thing". But of course I had to repeat that for her 3X, and she asked extra pickle and onion? Duh! On the last one everything but hot sauce, add extra onion and pickle. You KNOW I had to repeat that one. Come to find out when we ate our hotdogs there was either very little or no ketchup or mustard on all 3 of the dogs. Not a surprise at all with the mental giant working condiments. Pretty much the worst I've ever experienced there. Cold fries, and totally burnt onion rings (thinking you can tell in the picture). So, being adventurous, I went to Ted's with some coworkers to have a light lunch. Being a vegetarian, I knew this would be a limited experience but I figured it's my duty to experience random things and, who knows, maybe just french fries is a great meal all its own. In any case, there was a veggie dog available. And my experience mirrors another reviewer here - they just put the veggie dog with all the rest of the hot dogs. Like, they were TOUCHING! And so, that's gross. I ate it anyway, though it might explain why I was feeling sick later in the day. The onion rings and french fries are drenched in grease - so much that you actually don't taste the onion in the onion rings. It's just grease. And their ordering system is the strangest display of inadequacy I've ever seen. Ultimately, if you are a vegetarian, don't come here. I've been eating at "Ted's" for YEARS, but (surprisingly) yesterday was the first time that I'd eaten at this particular location. My "regular" spot is the one on Transit Road in Williamsville. One wouldn't think that there could be such a difference depending on which location you choose, but there DEFINITELY was! The people behind the counter here were disorganized. The hot dog was nicely blackened on the outside, but cold on the inside (probably from being cooked too quickly over too much of a flame). The onion rings (my usual favorite) were exceedingly greasy. Though they have recently revamped the menu to add more items such as special sauces and mac and cheese, the Ted's experience has not changed for me since I was a kid, which I love. When you walk into Ted's you order from the menu on the wall, and recite that order to the person who will be grilling your food right in front of you. They are always stacked with workers, one who cooks your food, one who takes your french fry/onion ring order, one who grabs your beverage for you. Ted's must have a great training program, because each worker is extremely polite and always has been. They have a great system going, and your food gets to you prompt and fresh. Other than hot dogs, there are burgers (my favorite). grilled chicken, vegetarian options, and every topping you would ever need. Their homemade hot sauce is amazing, they have take home jars of it as well. As someone who has now lived in Buffalo for two years we felt we should stop and give Ted's a try. I've been to Japadog, I know the magical things that a restaurant can do with a hot dog. Teds sells hot dogs. Period. No frills, nothing special hot dogs. I've gotten better hotdogs from a cart. The cheese has no flavor. The onion rings taste like onion and grease. My wife dared to order the veggie dog. It took the associate a minute to even find the veggie dogs then she placed it next to the others on the grill! My wife told the girl she'd pass on the veggie dog (if your a vegetarian for a while, even eating the meat juice from an adjacent hot dog can mean a stomach ache.) but the girl put the dog back in the package after it had been on the grill! I've been here a couple times during my school days between '05-'10, and this place is nothing special at all, if anything very lack-lustered.
