    Such a peaceful and relaxing visit! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was going to enjoy my meal. The ambiance is welcoming and warm with soft lighting. I really loved the design of the seated bar top, which made it very easy to visit as a party of one. I truly thought, "I'm very excited about this!" And it was exciting! An establishment highly recommended by the local industry population. I, personally, followed the server's guidance with what to offer. An order of the "Today's" Sashimi, followed by a hot bowl of Soba in the Soy Dashi Broth with A5 Mizayaki Beef (the same beef cooked on the hot rocks). I felt completely satisfied with this order. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite, down to the wasabi. The only thing that kept from rating this experience a solid 5 is the unexpected service I (did not) receive. I'll preface -- I'm not at all needy, and don't need much attention. I came to enjoy the food, not to expect engagement from staff. However, having spent years in the service industry, I could not describe notable service here. Not specifying the water is an additional charge (I was served a whole bottle, which I would not even drink half of), without an option for tap, isn't what caught my attention (as it did for another reviewer). That's not a bother at all, and I actually respect that the options are filtered water you'd pay for (the focus, again, is the food). What did catch my attention is the VERY different treatment given to visiting chefs/industry members compared to guests. I get it, chef to chef, you want to welcome your colleagues and take care of them; however, the moment another member known to the industry stepped foot (sitting just two seats away from me) it was made very clear that providing remotely any sort of service was of interest. Of course, the chef brought course after course, as a courtesy to the visiting industry guest. It was quite beautiful to watch, and often made me smile, but then I realized -- the chef didn't even come over once or even acknowledge that I was there with even a look (and I was one of 7 people there total). Similarly, the bar keeper went over and poured complimentary champagne and sake...not even a glance. Other members of the FOH staff also went over, not even a consideration that another guest was just seats away. Even my own servers. They only came by to clean up my plate once it sat there empty. Unfortunately, I decided against the tea and dessert. I, eventually, felt uncomfortable and thought it was best to leave and provide the space to the other guests (as I, eventually) turned out to be one of the final guests there. Luckily, I intended for a quieter and more independent experience.

    Visited Tei An to celebrate a birthday and early Valentines Day. My rating would be a strong 3.5 so I rounded up. The positives: We fairly enjoyed most of their dishes and the crab risotto was the star of our meal. The aroma of the crab was spectacular and we were craving more. The white seaweed salad was very unique-- something we haven't tasted. You can tell the soba noodles are delicately hand made each morning. Finally, the sushi has one of the highest qualities in the area. The negatives: The only dish we regretted ordering was the Kinako Ice. It basically tasted like an extra sweet vanilla scoop ice cream on top of a pile of honey. The black sesame mousse was better. Our meal seemed a bit overpriced for what we got and when we checked our bill, we understood why-- they charge you for EVERYTHING. They don't have tap water so you pay $8 for bottled water. Plus they ask you if you want wasabi for your sushi-- duh? $6 for wasabi, $8 for root wasabi, and even charge you for extra ginger. I wish they mentioned or stated it on their menu that everything has an extra charge. Overall, I was glad we finally tried Tei An as I know it was recognized by the Michelin Guide and it was on my list for a while. However, I don't think we would return for such a value.

    Rather than soba and sushi, I decided to try their hot dishes like curry short rib on rice and tempura shrimp for lunch. This ended being my favorite dishes at Tei-An. So while Tei-in is known for great sushi and soba, my favorites are actually their cooked rice dishes and we love their tempura shrimp!

    The first word that comes to mind is WOW! Great restaurant, amazing vibe and ambience. The service was A+. The quality of all the 7 courses was absolutely incredible! Many food options and chefs choices. Would absolutely return.

    What an experience this was! We got the 7 course dinner option. It is totally worth it. You leave satisfied and full. The employees knew a lot about the menu and where the ingredients came from. They also knew some of the culture things and shared them with us. Expensive but understandably so. Just be cautious of the unknown charges.

    Luxury experience, quiet dining area, and the most authentic Japanese dishes. The pork and shrimp shumai was good, and the crab chawan mushi had an interesting gelatin texture but also good. I loved my warm soba carbonara noodle but didn't realize how many shimeji mushrooms came with it- thankfully my husband ate a bunch of them for me lol. The REAL star we both just adored was the cold soba sampler with the 4 different flavors. That was just fantastic. Wonderful service. Just had a disappointing time in the restroom the toilet wasn't working correctly and was confusing.

    This place was a delight! We had the large beautiful private room which had so much space at this massive rectangular table. The non-alcoholic drink with matcha (I cant remember what was mixed in with it) was phenomenal. Every dish was excellent, especially the tempura--and they did amazing things with corn Tempura, which i have never had! I will say the one meh thing was the particular soba they selected for us wasn't as palatable to me--the soba was kind of weak and not great. Service on the slow side. But overall an excellent experience!

    We went for our anniversary dinner and tried soba noodles for the first time because that's what they're known for according to our server. My husband really enjoyed the soba noodles, and I had the sashimi sake, kampachi and madai. We also had the white seaweed salad, which was probably the highlight of my meal, but I was a little disappointed that a Michelin recommended place had such a lackluster dessert. We went with our server's recommendation for the so that flavored ice cream and it was icy but not creamy. Service was average at best.

    Made a reservation for classic omakase. We were confused since we thought this would be the authentic omakase but we sat at a table instead of a countertop and there were no sushi chefs. We asked for countertop table and the servers looked confused and a bit chaotic. Also we came in at 8 pm. Food wasn't served until 8:40 pm. I asked the server why our food hadn't been served yet, since omakases have a set start time (usually), he said it's because we hadn't picked our beverages. What now?? It didn't make sense to me. Aren't you supposed to serve food and I would decide whether I'd like to drink an alcoholic beverage or not. Also, they charge for water whether it's sparkling or still water. I wouldn't call this "omakase", let alone "classic omakase". There is no sushi chef or sushi served. The only seafood we had was a sashimi set. I would give 3.5 stars out of 5 for food because they were delicious despite not being the traditional omakase. The course had a good mix of top grade wagyu, sashimi set, tempura, soba, and cooked(boiled) cod along with ice cream for dessert. I wouldn't come back to this establishment.

    Eating here was a great experience. The place itself had a low-lit, very refined kind of ambiance with amazing service. The soba noodle sampler is a must try - this was my first time ever having anything like this, and it truly blew me away! The sauces each have their own flavor profile but compliment each other so well and the noodles themselves had the most perfect chew. It was also cool how after you finish the noodles they pour hot water into the remaining sauce and you can drink it like a broth. The curry udon was also fantastic - perfect if you want something warm and hearty. The hot rock beef was melt in your mouth with the perfect touch of marinade and the tableside experience is cool. I also did like the crispy-tei an shrimp - the size of the shrimp and crunch alone make it worth trying, but I will say it was a little oily and not salted enough (in my opinion). The skewers were alright, definitely a good piece of meat but I could've opted for something else. Very yummy food overall, I hope to be back sometime!

    We celebrated a birthday at Tei-an. The interior of the restaurant was well done and had just the right amount of lighting. Very clean and well designed/thought out in all aspects of the restaurant. The food was delicious. The sashimi was fresh. Flavors and course order was planned and paced very well. We did the omakase which was high price but definitely worth experiencing at least once. Our favorite cut of the night was the yellowtail. It was so good we ordered it again after the omakase was complete. However, the thing that stands out the most at Tei-an was the service! Starting from the valet to the hosts, and our waiters were all very helpful and attentive.

    My husband and I went to Tei-An this weekend for a nice date lunch and I am so glad we did! The ambiance of the restaurant is calm and feels upscale with nice horseshoe style seating around a rock fountain. Our server gave us great recommendations and all of the food we tried was great. From the sashimi platter, our favorite by far was the tuna and salmon, but all of the fish was fresh and delicious. Of the tempura, we absolutely loved the shrimp, however the vegetables were also good. Our server recommended the soba noodles with the braised beef - the beef melted in your mouth it was so good, but the soba noodles and broth were also awesome. I was surprised at how amazing the sea bass and Brussels sprouts were as well, which is what my husband ordered. The sea bass was smooth like butter and the Brussels sprouts did not pale in comparison. We threw on the Hot Rock Washu-Beef last minute, which was a solid decision I stand by. The beef was incredibly tender and it was fun watching our server cook it on the rock. We finished our meal with the soba ice cream, which was also incredible. All in all, the food was great and the servers were just as awesome. I'm looking forward to another date sometime soon!

Japan was extraordinary. The food was extraordinary. The trains were extraordinary. The trains specifically deserve their own paragraph because I have never in my life encountered a public transportation system that operates with the precision and quiet dignity of the Japanese rail network. Trains that arrive at the exact second they are supposed to arrive. Trains that leave at the exact second they are supposed to leave. A whole society of people moving through stations the size of small cities with calm purpose and zero visible distress, consulting their phones, reading books, buying things from vending machines that should not logically exist inside a train station but do because Japan has decided that convenience is a human right and I agree completely. I tell you all of this to explain what happened at the train station when we tried to find pizza. Now I know what you are thinking. You went to Japan and you tried to find pizza. And yes. Yes we did. We had been eating spectacular Japanese food for several days running, food that made us question every culinary decision we had made in our entire lives up to that point, and then something happened in the group dynamic that can only be explained as a collective temporary insanity and somebody said what about pizza and instead of saying no we are in Japan and there is yakitori available within forty feet of us at all times, everybody said yeah okay pizza sounds good actually. The station we were in had approximately forty seven exits. I counted. Not all of them. I counted forty seven before I gave up counting and simply accepted that exits were infinite and directional signage was a suggestion. We had been told the pizza place was near exit B14. There was no exit B14. There was a B4 and a B41 and something that might have been B14 but was labeled in a way that required a level of kanji literacy I had not developed in the forty eight hours since landing. We walked for twenty two minutes. We passed the same Family Mart three times which I know because the same employee was stocking the same shelf each time and by the third pass he looked at us with an expression of gentle recognition and what I can only describe as compassionate pity. We never found the pizza place. We found a ramen shop instead and ate the best bowl of ramen of our collective lives and agreed to never speak of the pizza incident again except that I am speaking of it right now because it is directly relevant to the fact that when I came back to Dallas and needed Japanese food that did not require navigating a forty seven exit train station, I went to Tei Tei Robata Bar on Henderson Avenue and everything was immediately right with the world. Tei Tei has been on Henderson Avenue since the late nineties. Founder Teiichi Sakurai, who is also the man behind Tei An which if you have not been to Tei An please go immediately after reading this review and before doing anything else in your life, has been a James Beard semifinalist six times which is the kind of number that should be printed somewhere more prominently than it currently is, like on a highway billboard or possibly the side of a building. You walk in through a Japanese garden to get to the entrance. A Japanese garden. In Dallas. On Henderson Avenue. Between a taco place and a bar with a patio. I walked through it after the forty seven exit train station and my blood pressure dropped twelve points immediately and I have no medical evidence for this but I am confident it is true. Robata is the traditional Northern Japanese grill style. Wood charcoal. Low heat. Slow intention. Things arrive on skewers that have been coaxed rather than forced into deliciousness. The miso sea bass is the kind of dish that people describe by going quiet for a moment first. The cornflake shrimp is a thing that should not work as a concept and works completely as a reality. The daily special comes out in three parts, raw, robata, and more, and each part is a small argument for why you should be paying better attention to what you eat every day of your life. The sashimi sits in a case on ice near the kitchen and you can watch the chefs working with a calm precision that is genuinely meditative to observe, like a train system that runs on the exact second it is supposed to run, quiet and intentional and doing exactly what it is supposed to do without any drama about it. I sat at the sushi bar and ate things I will not fully describe because some experiences should be discovered and not spoiled. I thought about the ramen we found instead of the pizza we were looking for and decided that getting lost is sometimes the whole point.

Onto the ramen - easily hands down one of the best ramen I've had in DFW. The broth is flavorful, and I love the noodles. I'm not sure if they're handmade from scratch, but they had the perfect thickness and chewiness. I also loved generous the portion of cha shu slices. Most other places only give you 1-2 thin slices, but that was not the case here. The pork was tender. The ajitama was solid too, although I prefer more of a soft-boiled egg. While the meat portion is more generous here, the tonkotsu didn't come with many vegetables. A lot of other ramen places I've been to will have corn, fried garlic, etc as default, but those are all additional cost add-ons here. The ramen was delicious without them though but just something to note. We also got the tomato ramen as it's the chef recommendation. The dish is very creative and the execution was great. Personally, I still prefer traditional ramens but it was certainly a nice culinary creation to try. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and would come here again. Just be aware there may be a wait, and because they're so busy, you do have to proactively flag down staff. However, the staff are still really nice despite all the tasks they're juggling at once.

As a first-time guest, I was looking forward to an enjoyable dining experience, but the lack of attention to these issues left me disappointed. The saki came out extra hot because I asked for it to be micro waved and they accommodated I like it really hot The warm buzz for my sake, the Japanese conversation ( I had no idea what was being said ) the clink of plates !! Perfect noise. Perfect stage for a taste. I love my sushi and sake solo I appreciated the non-American presentation Syrups and sauces turn me off. It was just 100% good tasting fresh fish. Great. No sports TVs to distract you no Uber eats drivers coming out going nonstop high-quality sushi great price. I'll return as much as I can.
