i guess i'll be the first sub-3-star review for Telegraphe. note I've only been there once (but had to yelp this) and this review is based only on 2 items from their menu: gazpacho and the prosciutto / brie sandwich. i'll get to the point right away -- this is THE WORST GAZPACHO i've ever had. ever. period. i strolled in looking for a new lunch spot near my office. the menu looked decent so i decided to give it a try, esp when they told me that their sandwiches were made to order (I'm not a fan of pre-made sandwiches... but who is??). given that it was 87 degrees outside, a bowl of cold gazpacho sounded like just the right thing. thus, i went for the half soup / half sandwich option. the sandwich was pretty good... nothing special but solid... probably worthy of 3.5 stars. but let's get to the reason for this 2-star review -- the horrible gazpacho! i took 3 spoonfuls and could not consume anymore. the soup was beyond sour (that's it... it was just cold sour soup... not at all sweet, tangy, nor savory). let's see... i'd compare it to eating bad watery ketchup with a big squeeze of lemon juice. yuck. their coffee, cookies, sandwiches, and maybe even the other soups may all be just fine but i doubt i'll even bother trying it given the literally bad taste it left in my mouth. read more

On our way back from some early-morning grocery shopping, we swung by Telegraphe to grab a casual morning bite. It wasn't too busy in the middle of Saturday morning, making it easy for us to grab a bar seat at the counter facing outwards (you can also sit at a couple of the tables further in as well). Telegraphe has an inconspicuous entrance, but once you are inside, it still feels cozy but has a high ceiling and chill music playing in the background - a very nice vibe overall. The folks at the counter are quite friendly in taking the order, and everything is made fresh, as evidenced by the fact I was surprised we had to wait around 5 minutes for our breakfast sandwiches to be done. The menu isn't anything super-fancy, but it's very casual food done at a very respectable price given what things sometimes cost. My wife's avocado and egg sandwich was nice and light, with a very creamy texture and a slice of tomato to help cut through each bite. The egg salad could have had a dash more flavor, but overall, I really enjoyed the combination of the two. I went with the smoked salmon, egg and cheese sandwich, and I really thought this was a winner overall. The salmon is pretty good-quality stuff - not the schlock you'll see festooned onto a bagel at a corner deli - and the egg is freshly cooked as well. I ended up going with mozzarella on the sandwich (which was a ciabatta roll) because I'm not a big Swiss fan, but I do feel that the cheese is perhaps the weak link - it was a bit too rubbery for mozzarella, suggesting it wasn't the freshest, and I also felt that there were really tiny pieces laid on the bread. Next time, I'd probably go with Brie. In all, though, Telegraphe is a nice little spot just off of 6th Avenue to grab a casual morning bite. As it's not far away from where I live now, and the price being quite reasonable, I will almost certainly swing by again to check out more of their breakfast sandwiches! read more

Great breakfast lunch spot. Always nice service. Have been coming here for years. Love the egg salad avocado on a bagel for an occasional treat but usually go with the very good Greek yogurt. The maniac who flamed this place because someone got one order wrong is just looking to be offended. Eat here. Get a good meal. read more

I really enjoyed this cafe. I ordered a regular drip and a rugelach. I like my coffees to be light-bodied with a clean finish. They deliver exactly that. The rugelach was delicious. The pastry was very soft and chewy, while the stuffing was generous yet not overbearing. Yum. The interior is small, but they have enough room to seat many customers. And although it's small, it doesn't feel crowded. I'm looking forward to coming back. read more

I am in the middle of my job search and unless I leave my apartment, nothing gets done but the shuffle from the refrigerator to the TV. I have been looking for places to work for 3-4 hours at a time with FREE wi fi and good coffee and food. My search ended at Telegraphe. They have excellent coffee that they serve with a square of chocolate, great pastries and the yummy quiches. I last ordered the veggie quiche and rasberry cookie. The staff is very friendly and let you stay as long as you want. On top of it all, the prices are very reasonable. The spaces are a little tight, but I never felt like my space was encroached. In addition, the bathroom is always clean and they have many outlets for laptop-toters. Overall, it is a place where you can have brunch, work and then follow with an afternoon snack and have productivity. read more

This is a small but chic French cafe tucked into the busy streets of Chelsea. They offer coffee as well as sandwiches and salad. I ordered the Nicoise salad, which was pretty decent. I came here on a Sunday afternoon. I thought it would be crowded but I could still find seating at the bar, which was a plus. Wish I worked nearby so I could come here more often. read more

Great find in Chelsea. I love small places like this to sit and have coffee and a light lunch. I had the Soup and sandwich combo (mulligatawny and grilled chicken on ciabatta). Both were outstanding. Haven't had the coffee yet here but I've come to grab a sandwich and/or soup depending on what they're offering. Lunch can be fairly pricey here -- $8+ for soup and half sandwich. I recommend the turkey and swiss if you're going to try it. The soups available rotate on a daily basis and are from Hale and Hearty. I haven't eaten inside the place as of yet. I've normally just wandered in to see what soups they're offering for the day and/or grab a sandwich ($6 or $7 range) to take back with me to the office. It looks like a great spot to eat and relax so I may try to eat inside the place eventually. read more

I often stop in telegraphe because it is so close to my office. Its a cute place with normal "manhattan"pricing for drinks and food considering the location. The soups and sandwiches are great, they definitely do not skimp on meat or cheese. My one concern is the frequency in which i receive the wrong order... I always get takeaway and have often open my lunch to find the wrong item staring back at me. The Food is good, but it's kind of a drag to get back to the office only to realize you received the wrong item. Not sure if the disconnect is at the register or in the prep but the receipt on the bag always has the right order on it! I've been here around 20 times and this has happened at least 5 that i can recall. I'll continue to eat here but the fact that i've had so many mess-ups is always in the back of my mind. read more

Telegraphe is an excellent alternative to the faux-personal environment you'll get at Starbucks. No, it is not a huge establishment, but if you're able to find a spot to sit for a few hours then you'll find it cozy. There is free WiFi and friendly counter service. They continuously bake home made chocolate chip cookies so the place always smells great! A great late afternoon workstation or morning stimulant station. Highly recommended. read more

Coffee is average if not less. Bagels / croissants / breakfast items are not great at all:-(. For the price - it's better to get it from a food cart- same plain taste but cheaper. It's very noisy so not great for working. Not a fan of Starbucks. But it probably better than this. read more

Best cafe hands down to grab a snack on the go! I have been here at least 5 times in the past two months, grab half a sandwich, sitting at the window bar seats, laptop on with free wi-fi and a coffee to go! The corner mini table, though a bit cramped, is the perfect spot to do some work without being bothered. I got a coffee and half of the salmon and brie salad for less than $11. The salad came with a piece of bread-- too tough for my liking. Food itself was good, but not the best, and did just enough to satiate my hunger. Surprisingly, I had more salmon than I even wanted; a plus for some. The coffee was also worth noting. Free wifi, small but good space, and a comfortable restroom to use-- I think this is a decent spot to come solo. read more

So happy that I'm lucky enough to work right next door to this awesome little cafe. You really can't go wrong with anything from here, but my favorite is the Caprese sandwich on pretzel bread (and no, it's not actual pretzel so it's just the right amount of soft/crispy!). Dropped in this evening after reading all the mostly positive reviews. And for once my fellow yelpers, did not steer me wrong, great job! Cool little coffee shop and espresso bar that also serves sandwiches in the heart of Chelsea. And though only had this speciality ice tea they were serving, which really hit the spot, everything else looked great. As only about 45min before closing it wasn't that crowded so was really laid back with chill music playing in the background, my type of place. So with friendly staff, great prices, chill atmosphere and free wifi calling this my new spot next time i'm in the area. Have often passed this place when in a rush so it was great to finally find time to check it out. With just about the right amount of seating, not sure how crowded it gets during the week, but I will be back! read more

What a relief to find such a sweet place in a not so sweet part of town. They make great coffees and soups.. and even have gluten free options! I felt so grateful when I ordered a soup and they offered gluten free bread after finding out I couldn't have wheat. The owners are also really affable and cute. read more

What makes a coffee bar different from the countless others in the city? Internet connection? Check. Expensive 16 oz. coffee? Check. Quirky post-modern decorating? Check. Not Starbucks? Check. Two plasma TVs showing people doing extreme sports? What??? Yep. This place is just different enough from your average NYC cafe to make it special. One thing is that they have a nice, relaxed, undercrowded atmosphere that is just downtown enough to be good but just uptown enough to be convenient. Plus, on constant rotation are outdoor sports on the televisions sporting surfers ripping curls, making you wish that you were on an island somewhere with them. Oh yeah. They have good coffee, pastries and a great egg sandwich on multi-grain bread. But, you know, you expected that much. read more

Cute, but a regular coffee and a croissant came to almost $8. They were pretty good but that's a little over the top. The cafe is very easy to miss, with a generic storefront (font: papyrus). Had their caprese prosciutto salad in their full size and their vanilla chai latte. The salad was great, I just wish the prosciutto was easier to break because I wanted it to last throughout my salad. There was so much mozzarella, which is good too! I wanted to try their chai latte because I heard such good things. I asked for a recommendation and ordered the vanilla, it was good but maybe not my favorite.
